UPDATE 4th POST
This is just a start of some of my favorite boot animations. These boot animations are raw. I did not make them flashable because CWM zips are kernel sensitive and this way everyone with a kernel that has added boot support can use them. The PLAYSTATION boot animation has power on sound too!!!! Great for the new FF11 kernel (thanks Agat63, sfhub) and for Mijjahz new Blend No Name (FF11) AND the (el29) version of Mijjahz Blend 3.0. * Thanks goes out to mijjahz for helping me out, and for his awsome ROMS. Of course as long as your kernel provides boot animation support these will work. I've tested all the boot animations here and that I will post later. Also this is just the start to a collection that I've gained from everywhere on the net so I'm not sure who made all these. Thanks goes out to all the animators who made these as well. Also, some of these I HAVE made, so thanks to me as well lol. Ok so here we go.
Devs: I don't mind if you want to use one of my boot animations, just let me know first and give me credit on your thread.
1. download zip to your sd card
2. Make nandroid back up
3. push to /system/media with root explorer or ES file exporer. (if its the PowerOn .wav for boot anim push to /system/etc. edit:For ICS PowerOn.wav and PowerOn.ogg are required! Just make a copy of the wave file and rename the extention to .ogg and place in </system/etc> with the PowerOn.wav)
4. Delete old boot animation.zip and sanim.zip.
5. Rename your boot animation.zip of choice to "bootanimation.zip"
6. Make a copy of your new "bootanimation.zip" and paste there in /system/media. Rename the copy "bootanmimation_copy.zip" to sanim.zip
7. Reboot.- enjoy
Always make a nandroid backup when working with the system files and bootloader. I am not responsible for what you do.. laddie dah.. you know the drill.

Here are a few more boot animations. I got some poweron sound wav files for fun. Its like they forgot about them or something. Anyway, to change your BOOT SOUND..
DIRECTIONS:
make sure you mount your sd card in root explorer as read/write
1. Download wav file to your sd with your boot animation. after pushing boot animation as described in the above post, go to the folder that the wave file is in. Copy paste into "/system/etc."edit:For ICS PowerOn.wav and PowerOn.ogg are required! Just make a copy of the wave file and rename the extention to .ogg and place in </system/etc> with the PowerOn.wav)
2. delete old "PowerOn.zip"/"PowerOn.ogg". Paste wav file of your boot animation.
3.Hard press on the wav file and rename it to "PowerOn.zip/.ogg". If you don't rename it exactly with the capital "P" and"O", then it WONT WORK.
4.Reboot. ENJOY

The.wav file is pushed to "/system/etc". Just copy paste the file there and then hard press and change file permissions to that of all the other system files. If you already have sound at boot up then delete that wav. File and replace it. Also make sure to rename to "PowerOn.zip" I'm pretty sure blazer 4.1 doesn't have a sound file so just paste it in /system/etc. Also if my memory serves blazer 4.1 supports boot animation unless you flashed a stock kernel or other kernel that doesn't support boot animation over the kernel provided in blazer, so to answer your question, yes all the boot animations will work no matter what ROM you are on providing that you have a kernel that supports boot animation, from ICS to GB. Just as long as you're not on a stock kernel. Im using rogue 1.4.1... gunslinger I believe. The only stock kernel I know of that supports boot animation is the new (ICS ) FE10 modified kernel with UN-Locked recovery.(thanks sfhub) Give me thanks if I helped you out.

I made the instructions in the op pretty specific I thouht, but it still might be confusing. Ok as for three black screen. Means it wasnt installed incorrectly. Make sure you delete both of the original files in/system media. BOTH the bootanimation.zip and the sanim.zip file. Now you need to replace those files. take your new boot animation and rename it to "bootanimation.zip" with out the quotes. Now copy paste it /system/media. Now take that same file you just copied and copy it again to same location. rename the second bootanimation.zip to"sanim.zip". Now hard press on both of your newly renamed files and set the permeissions to that of the rest of the system folders. . ..
Reboot...
Now for sound. You had it named right. PowerOn.wav but it needs tho be pushed to /system/etc. Reboot. You good buddy. Now if it still doesn't work and you followed this specifically, then you need a kernel that supports boot animation. I would tell you how tho hack a stock kernel but its a little complicated i think. Hope this works out for you man.

Honestly, I felt your instructions were very clear as well.
I'm using sfhub's "plus" kernel, which supports boot animation, I can flash a few other animations that were packaged for for install from recovery. I definitely had the PowerOn.zip(.ogg) file in /system/etc, and verified it would play as a .ogg using vlc.
One little deviation that I did have to apply - it is the death star ani that I want to use, but it's several MB to large for my stock el16 + ICS theme, so I removed about half the frames, but renumbered them all meticulously. Maybe I screwed the pooch there but I didn't see anything about the file structure that would indicate that. I'm going to try it all again. My best guess is that I have the permissions wrong. I even tried packaging them for recovery flash, but I fear I'm reaching there.. it flashed but still no go.
Could it because I'm manipulating the zip contents and re-zipping from windows?
Thanks for your help, these anis are awesome.

It seems like you are putting too much into it. If you are trying to rebuild the animation you may have to edit the script file associated with it to compensate for frame speed. Tell me how that turns out. There are several online converters to help with a project like that. I will not write a whole tutorial on how to make a boot animation at this time. Maybe a future post. There is a nice batch file you can use called boot animation creator. You can find it by using the xda search tool.
I've tried 2 different kernels that have boot animation support and it's not working any way I try to update it. I follow your instructions exactly. I use Explorer ES, I copy the file twice renaming bootanimation.zip and sanim.zip in the system/media folder after deleting the old ones and it's just the stock SG2 boot load screen. What am I doing wrong? I'm definitely rooted, I've tried 3 different permissions settings from different folders in the area. Everything else is still fine I just can't change my boot screen, any tips?
Specifically I'm on FE16 Repack with ACS recovery. I also tried FD26 one with rogue and it didn't work either. Same stock boot screen.
Second edit - I thought I could extract the zip and use that bootanimation.zip but I still get the same stock animation.

OK, firstly, let me suggest to try and use root explorer instead of ES file explorer. Es file explorer its a good program, but ive had issues while trying to over write files with it. Make sure that r/w is mounted on the sd. Also ensure that it has super user permissions prior to attempting to over write. You can check if your file explorer has su/permissions by looking in your app drawer and clicking on super user. This will bring up a list of apps that have su enabled. If your file explorer doesn't have super user permissions it will look like its over writing the file when its not. Finally if none of that works, try going into /system/bin/samsungani and rename toto something else... (i.e. samsungani.old)then rename /system/bin/bootanimation to /system/bin/samsungani.
Then it should change the boot animation kernel settings and load whatever bootanimation is at /system/media/sanim.zip, unless the kernel wasn't built from source. (some ICS leaks, AOKP/AOSP/CM9). You can also try running Calkins modified format to wipe your dalvik cashe after installing a new boot animation but PRIOR to rebooting. Some times data has a way of Swyping through from one ROM to the next while flashing. Hopefully one of these suggestions will get your boot animation up and running. Lemme know how it goes and gimme thanks if I helped you out.

Hey guys. I am quite new at the forums and I currently own an EVO 4G which I recently rooted with S-Off and also have Root Explorer installed.
I seem to be having an issue with replacing my Boot Animation. I have searched google far and wide and tried different methods of replacing the animation and have had no luck. I see the EVO 4G HTC white screen and then either a blank black screen or the default flashing "Android" symbol until my phone finishes booting up and Im sent to my main page.
I have tried placing files initially into my Data/Local page but then realized that my boot animation files are located in my system/customize/resource file under the name "spc_bootanimation.zip. The first time, I renamed the original file, but then replaced it when the new zip file did not work. I have tried replacing that file countless times with three to four different renamed boot animation zips with turning "write" and "read only" settings on and off, changing all sorts of capitalizations, ect. None have had any luck. They replace just fine, but have no effect on the phone's animation. Ive also deleted the "Final" mp3 and one of the jpg backgrounds that were in that folder. I also adjusted the permissions to what they need to be and still no luck.
These are the current animations Ive tried.

Any help on this matter would be appriciated. Im hoping it is just something simple I overlooked.
Put this in the search box...."custom boot help"

Im going to try putting the spc_bootanimation.zip in my data/local folder and the SPC_animation_final.mp3 file in the system/customize/resource folder. This is what you did, right? Just to make sure?
Also, did you change the permission on the bootanimation file? Thank you again. I really want to get this working.
Update: I tried the above instructions and it still didnt work. Instead of the black screen, im getting the stock flashing android one. Also, the sound effect cut out. When I put both back into the system/customize/resource folder, I get the blank black screen and the sound cuts back on. I still dont know how to get the animation to work though. Any ideas?
if using root explorer
you need to unzip it and take out the bootanimation.zip and android_audio.mp3, the mp3 file gets move with root explorer to system/customize/resource and the Htc_bootanimation file gets moved to data/local.

My files are named a bit different but I did as you did putting the spc_bootanimation.zip in the data/ local folder and the mp3 in the system/ customize/ resource folder and still nothing. I get three flashing android symbol meaning it does not recognizea replacement file at all. .
I did play with the permissions and used the same pattern everyone else has been using. It is all three in the first Collum checked and then the next one to the right on the "user" tab. Is that right?
all i did was put bootanimation.zip into /system/customize/resource/ and it worked fine
That was the first thing I tried.. sadly it didn't work. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong as I've tried it quite a few different ways. I either get the blank black screen or three android flashing screen
What Rom are you using ? Or is it stock ? I have it under data/local named hTC_bootanimation.zip the other Rom I used I had it under system/custumize/resource named just bootanimation.zip. notice that spelling and caps count.
I can't post pictures but the permissions should look like an upside Down "L" or a flip flopped "7"
Hopes this helps. Don't know what else to say

Rename the file to the bootanimation. Use es file manager [make sure r/w is enabled from the settings menu] or root explorer [enable r/w from the button at the top], then reboot. You may have bad files, because I know that one works, as I'm currently using it.
I'm currently using s-off. I made sure to keep the permissions in that order. I've also tried renaming files and nothing works even after checking spelling and case. My stock boot animation was listed under "spc_bootanimation.zip". I renamed each of my downloaded ones that and replaced. I have tried all case of 'spc'. . I've even taken "spc" out of the name completely. Was I supposed to rename the zip something else?. Also, the desc file is supposed to be in the zip file right. Mine all are but I wanted to check

Once u download the zip file, extract it and take out the bootanimation file place it in data/local and then take the audio clip out and make sure to change the last letters to mp3 and set that into the system/customize/resource. That should do it. And make sure those permissions are set to what it needs to be. Let me know if that works.

Yes indeed, sure did. I did this yesterday as well and it no longer recognizes my bootanimation file in the data/local folder, which is why I think the stock android one comes up. It only seems to recognize it in the system/customize/resources folder. Maybe it is specifically for the EVO. Im not sure.

I just downloaded another boot animation specifically meant for the evo and it came with a folder called META-INF that you are supposed to put into the root of your SD card. I did that and it worked! The animation I am trying to use though does not include this and maybe that's why it wont work.
I wanted to know if anyone has an EVO 4g and can see if this boot animation works for you.....This is the animation that does not work that I am trying to use. It is the animation that would not work for me. Maybe someone can see why it wont work for the EVO.

Thanks for this, but your instructions are either incomplete, confusing, or both.
There is no bootanimation.zip or sanim.zip in this folder currently. Does that matter? If you have it installed how do you not know which name is correct for it to work?
Also, there is a bootsamsung.qmg file in here, I would think that is the animation file?
There is also a PowerOn.ogg file in this folder. Does it matter?
You have 2 shutdown.qmg files in the zip. One in the root Galaxy S II Shutdown folder and another in the video/shutdown folder. In addition there are a ton of .png files in this folder you don't explain what to do with.

I am running Midnight ROM 2.2, with Kernal that came with it...
What Rom are you on? - I guess I should have been more clear... If you are stock rooted, this may not work, depending on what kernal you are running. the Kernal needs to support boot animation. Unfortunately I dont have the original Galaxy S II qmg files. I am sure they are out there, but the only way to test them is to install the bootsamsung.qmg from a GSII in the same location, and overwrite the existing. do you have cwm on your phone? can you make a backup first? I highly recomend you do that!~
As far as power on, just replace the poweron.ogg file, or you can convert the wav file i included to an ogg file with a converter, I dont think that will matter. the sound should work either way.
as far as the shutdown animation and sound...
I am updating the OP Now~ sorry for the confussion...

Do you have any shutdown animation currently? or does it just say powering down when you turn it off? if it just says powering down or off... then you dont have a shutdown animation, which is why it isnt there...
Post Back your results!!!
All I can say is try it, if it doesnt work delete it. just remember, these are the locations...
Video Shutdown:shutdown.qmg - Paste in system/media/video/shutdown folder
Audio Shutdown: PowerOff.wav - paste in system/media/audio/ folder
Thanks for the shutdown animation Op.

Okay, thanks for some clarification. I am on Stock Pulled kernel with CWM5. I was able to get it working with a minor change to your steps.
Here is what I did to get it to work:
1) Download Original SGSII without boot animation support.zip file in OP
2) Unzip contents to location on phone (internal or external is fine)
3) Nandroid backup in CWM5 just in case
4) Using Root Explorer, copy bootsamsung.qmg and bootsamsungloop.qmg to system/media. Fix permissions to be like other files.
5) Copy PowerOn.wav to system/etc. Fix permissions
6) Copy shutdown.qmg to system/media/video/shutdown. Fix permissions
7) Copy PowerOff.wav to system/media/audio/ui (this is different than stated in OP) Fix permissions
8) Reboot and should be good to go.
Also, just a note, the PowerOn.wav file is exactly the same as the one that already exists on the stock rom. It is already the Samsung sound so no need to really copy that file if you are on stock.
Thanks for helping us get rid of the ugly Sprint boot animation!!
Awesome... Glad you got it working!
I wish I knew how to compile a flashable zip for CWM. It would be easier for others if they could just flash the corresponding zip for the ROM they were on...

Thanks for the modified install procedure. Works for me now.
I replaced the PowerOn.wav with a .wav file I found at freesounds.org. It's quite different and fresh/new!
Let me know if you want the file, ahhhh screw it, I included it here for you...
Just rename it PowerOn.wav of course...
That's exactly what I am looking for since wiped rom a long time ago. Thanks a lot for sharing.
Thanks for posting this and working on it! Working great on stock rooted ROM and stock kernel.

Followed these steps, mainly the Audio Shutdown directions and now I have the shutdown audio.
I created a flashable for stock roms and I can post if someone needs it. I can make one for modded roms but I need to know what the difference is and what files aren't required.
---------- Post added at 12:11 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:55 AM ----------
OK OP if these flashables work for everyone, feel free to add to the OP.
Ok here is the boot animation. I have tested and it works for stock roms, custom roms version was tested and works. I did not create this animation, I just zipped it for flashing.

Hi!
I've made a StarGate Bootanimation for Galaxy S II. (for Android 2.3.5)
Thanks to crispixfr for the original version (for SGS1).
Actually i resized his version, replaced its sound (the original was too dull), and updated the script for SGS2 Android 2.3.5.
Install:
First of all you have to unrar the two parts. -i had to split the .ZIP with rar because xda forum allows only 8MB attachments.
After that:
a) Install With ClockWorkMod
OR:
b) Install with root explorer (extract the .zip and paste the bootanimation.zip in system/media and PowerOn.wav in system/etc)
I recommend to increase the system volume to maximum for real experience.
(Settings>Sound settings>Volume>System volume)
Previews:
great animation. Have it also in my SGS1. The problem wich i have, is that the sound of locking symbols is to fast.... But maybe our gs2 is to damn fast.
best regards
PS. also i have a power on and off from Transformes wich i love have them on every phone that i own (glad to share with you guys)

You mean that the sound doesn't match the picture?
Maybe your phone plays the video slower than mine.
no no..you got me wrong...IT MATCH..but it plays fast then i used to sgs1. in sgs1 is more like in the movie (but i think is about that in sgs1 it take longer to boot).
it's like 1.2.3.4.5.6.7 done but no issues about sync video/audio
Looks good will give this a go i was getting a bit bored of the Galaxy Nexus boot animation anyway
Thanks you for to have updating my boot animation !!! Crispix is the best !!! And you too now lol

As i have said in the first post: First of all you have to unrar the two parts.
So there is only ONE ZIP file, which you'll have after extracting the RAR files.
After that, you only have to flash the extracted ZIP file!

Put ur file onto multiupload ;-)
Directly from my SGS II using xda premium
Sometimes is not working the regular method (trough CWM). You need to push the files manually.
Choose a file explorer wich can gain read writte rights on system folder (personaly i use root explorer).
Step 1. Unzip the zip file wich doesn't work trough CWM flash, and you will obtain several folders (system/media wich contain bootanimation.zip) and etc/ wich contain PowerOn.wav. Copy this files in a folder inside your internal sdcard or external sdcard. Mainly you are interested on bootanimation.zip and PowerOn.wav
Step2. With file explorer mount with R/W the system folder and copy the bootanimation.zip from your folder to your /system/media folder. If you allready have a bootanimation.zip there, it will be overwritted.
Step 3. With file explorer mount R/W the etc folder, and copy from your folder PowerOn.wav to your etc folder.
Step 4. Reboot. Enjoy.
I think the same steps are also for the other kernels wich use the sanim.zip.
I don't remember in what folder is stored, but it will be like, rename the extracted bootanimation.zip to sanim.zip, and copy the new file to the respective folder. The poweron.wav is going to the etc folder.
If you have a copy error please check if you have read/writte rights on that folder. For default you have Read Only rights.
Hope that helps, and all credits go to the OP for this great animation.
best regards
This is a great animation.
Running on Checkrom Rev 3.1.1 with Green Monkey theme.
Thanks for the effort.
well done

In the good old day when we had so many gingerbread options, if your rom allowed it you could change boot animation simply put zip into system/media now that we are moving on to ICS that no longer works, I did some searching that a second file needs to be made or placed for it to work, I tried toolbox but most of those although they do work are droid themes or lame. So the question is was anyone able to change the boot animation with a ICS rom, without using toolbox, if so please post how you were able to do it. I love the android pissing on apple boot. Does any one have that anmation by chance most links I found were to megaupload which has been shut down.
Once you find the one you want just place it into system\media make sure its named bootanimation.zip
It works with dark side evolution ics. I know because I made a animation from scratch and I run it in my phone.

The problem with the bootanimation.zip file you were trying to use was that when I unzipped and took a look into the desc.txt file, the second line where it states what folder to run first was not named the same as the folder that contained the images. So when you were telling your phone to look in a certain folder it was never found. In case you run into other problems follow these basic steps.
You need to unzip it and make sure that it is filed in the correct order. When a bootanimation.zip is made it consist of a desc.txt and at least one folder with many or few .png images. The folder that contains the .png images must be named the same in the txt file. In order of course of how you want to see it run. All this is stated in the desc.txt.
And to put it on your phone just copy paste into system/media make sure that you can RW in that directory. Then reboot and your good.
Or an easier way just do adb push bootanimation.zip /system/media from platform tools in your SDK.
XDA upload wasn't working so here ya go!
Ok first off big thanks to cesar, I didnt get his post at first and didnt feel like bothering him any more as he has been much to helpful so in lamemans terms, you need it to be in a zip format when you put it into system/media.....within that zip should be a folder containing you pics and a text file (what ever the folder is called should also be referenced in the text file) I was a little lost when I saw boot and tried several different ways till I got it, and now I understand, also I think within the text file you can set the size of video on the first line. Again big thanks to Cesar.
What about power on sound?

Spent the afternoon updating the BIOS boot animation from here but has been edited to now show AOKP 4.0.4 (instead of 2.3.6) and some other small alterations to bring up to date.
Instructions
1.Connect your phone to your computer via USB and mount the storage card for file transfer.
2.Copy the bootanimation.zip file that you want to install, to your SD card.
3.Unmount USB storage and launch the file browser of your choice on your phone.
4.Browse to /system/media, copy the existing bootanimation.zip file from there and paste it somewhere safe on your SD card.
5.Browse to the location on the SD card where you copied the new bootanimation.zip and copy it.
6.Browse to /data/local and paste the bootanimation.zip file there to override the default system boot animation without replacing it.
OR
7.Browse to /system/media and paste the bootanimation.zip file there.
8.If you are using Super Manager, you will have to enable its root function first from the settings. Furthermore, you may need to mount the /system partition as read-write first too upon entering it.
Hope all enjoy!

Hi,
1. Download the poweron.wav file from the 1st post and place on sd card.
2. Navigate to system/etc using rootexplorer and rename the exisiting poweron.ogg to poweron.ogg.bak (as a backup)
3. Now copy and paste the poweron.wav into the same location (system/etc)
4. Reboot and see if this works
5. If not rename the poweron.wav to poweron.ogg

Jr.. what kernel are u using?
this is indeed strange that i do have bootanimation.zip in /system/etc as well as poweron.ogg. took a look at the png files in the bootanimation. it is no where close to the default samesung one that im getting right now when booting up. so i guess stock kernel does not support bootanimation.zip?
gracias..
Im on VK rom and using siyah kernel. Stock should also take the bootanimation if the files are put in the correct place -
bootanimation.zip goes in system/media
poweron.wav(or .ogg) goes in system/etc
