I got a 16GB class, 10 memory card. I made a partition if 1gb and 0mb swap. Is that correct? What does the swap really help with?
I tried Google but couldn't really understand it properly. Someone can explain it to me in layman's terms? ^_^

That's a good size. Now install data2sd by jikanturu and you have more internal memory.
good enough?

Can you provide the link to Data2SD? All the ones I found were deleted off of mediafire D:
Search Data2SDInstallerNXE2.zip and you'd get your desired thing on androidforums.com
Else pm me your email and I'd send you the zips....

Swap is fake ram. With class 10 SD card you had to use at least 128mb-256mb because wfs have only 512mb ram
Don't bother with swap, you don't need it. Swap is just using disk space as RAM. But since the SD card is significantly slower than RAM (even if it is a class 10), you won't be having a good time. I've got like 120 apps installed on my phone and I still have 100+MB of RAM available. You don't need swap. As for sd-ext, don't bother with all the many different scripts, the easiest way is just to download S2E from the Play Store, it does it all for you
do we need swap? http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Swap_and_Compcache
It's up to your choice.
my sdcard has 128mb swap.

Hi, I have a 4GB (Class 10) memory card. (872 MB -Ext4 Partition, 700 MB -Linux Swap and 2300 MB on Standard Partition) and using Link2SD. I have installed 30 apps and got only 45MB internal memory left.
But I see you got more internal memory.
1. How is this possible?
2. Can I now move on to S2E? If yes then how?
Thanks.

The best way to do it would be to backup all your apps and data with titanium backup, then reinstall your rom from scratch. Make your sd-ext partition bigger if you wish, then install S2E, let it mount your sd-ext and then restore everything with titanium backup.

Rooted desire, running leedroid 2.3c, ext 3 partition 1 gb.
Free space apps2sd+ 614mb, Free space internal storage 14 mb.
Got the above and now when trying to update apps and install new ones the message comes up insufficient space!
Any ideas why? Also I moved some large apps to SD and no change to free space only reduced from apps2sd+....
Is it possible to move apps from internal storage to apps2sd+ ?
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk
You could maybe try the data2whereever script if you have a fast enough sd card. I have been using that and my desire shows 1gb internal storage and 14gb sd.
I used the life-on-the-edge script too to speed it up and its lightning fast. my benchmark tests show way faster than nexus one 2.2
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=867049&page=72
There is a bug with life-on-the-edge script which causes reboots now and then so you may want to just use the data2whereever without it. I found it made a big enough difference to warrant the odd reboot.
So super fast AND 1gb internal memory, its all 100% SD card.
Thanks will try that tonight

I have problem with internal memory
What are more things are on the memory I can delete
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Unless you are S-OFF, you can only delete the things you've installed by yourself or move them to the SD Card (Non_A2SD+).
What do u mean s off
I mean the apps is about 50 mb what happened with 200 mb

Probably cache & Other non-app related stuff.
Also, if you don't have A2SD+ (not App2SD), then some applications will be on Internal memory even after moved to the SD card.

I am not an android expert, but you do need app2sd or data2sd to fix this.
Any 3rd party rom with those X2sd supported can let you extend your limited phone storage. I don't know the android system file structure at all but here is the general idea.
i. App2sd
This will install the apps (most of them) on your sd card, but the data, I think, still remains on your phone internal storage. Your system should be very fast as normal even with low class sd card (most of the time I think :-0 ).
ii. Data2sd
This is a little bit tricky, it requires you to format your sd card and make use of the sd card instead of your internal phone storage for the operating system. You generally get an unlimited store, it depends on how much memory you allocated for the system, also you need a higher class sd card as better.
iii. Data2sd mixed mode
This is the best solution for me . it moves almost all to the sd card but some part of the system with more i/o on the phone internal storage (actually symlinks point back to the device on sd card). This will make the system fast (faster than pure data2sd), extended the phone storage a lot, but still limited to the phone internal storage (better than app2sd though)
Again, this is just my understanding. I haven't looked into Android in depth yet, but I will one day I have enough time
You can found the ROMs and almost everything you need from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=916417
Really appreciated the people who did the job there.
I have app 2 SD
I fixed partition ex2 to move the apps but I can't see ext2 partition
Must I have app2sd+ , where can download it.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Create at least EXT3 with more than 512 MB.
You don't have the option anywhere, to move to the EXT partition, it is automatically done by the script.
To see your EXT partition you must use TI Backup (Shows only as A2SD+) or GParted.
Ok not ext2
I have tried with ex2 it doesn't work , should I have swipe ?
I will do it with Linux
Which Rom do u think is best now ?
Where can I download a2sd+ ?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
A2SD+ is not a program, it is a script. Included in the ROMs.
Look around in the Desire Android Developement Section for ROMs and pick one you like. Most of them have A2SD+.
Do some reading... rooting guides include all the information you need
I will format the SD and try to found some Rom with a2sd+
Why desire have very little memory it should be 2 or 4 gb
Thank everyone and I will be back with feedbAck

This has always been a problem with my desire until i found out about AlphaRev. Now i've got 166MB free internal space. My suggestion is to install AlphaRev and modify the partition tables as listed in the tutorial on alpharev.nl. I would have posted a link but i can't post links yet.
i downloaded RCMIxHD_v3.4_ROT_D2EXT_RC1 and made a parttion ext3 and now work perfect.
Thank u everybody
Hello all
ive had a good read at alot of resources, but cant seem to find one answer, so here it goes...
i have a new 16gb class 10 card.
whats best way to partition the card?
ok ok i no it all depends on how much space i want for apps and music etc, but as a basic...
lets assume with a 16gb you get full 16gb, (when really it will be 15gb)
so would this be best way to have it partitioned for my desire,
12gb FAT32, 4GB ext4 , 0swap ??
more info - aim to be always using Oxygen
what do you plan to use the EXT4 partition for? I'm total noob, but been reading a lot. One of the recurring recommendations (app2sd, data2sd) seems to be to use max 2GB EXT partition for stability.
(but perhaps you know better )
I partitioned my 8GB card the other day using the soft (MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition) recommended here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=SD_card_partitioning
Most people seem to recommend Gparted as the ultimate partition manager, but then you need Linux or a LiveCD, and I was too tired to make one of those.
4GB ext for what? lol
1GB is more than enough, and 2 - only you manage to fill up, if you download the whole market
And also some scripts do not support ext partition > 2gb.
As already said, 1GB for ext4 is far enough ! Swap is not very usefull.
Use gparted method...very easy n very safe.....

I use EASEUS Partition Master Professional Edition, with this you can create ext3.
In recovery you can convert ext3 to ext4 or you can partrition sd card only ext2 and ext3 and then convert ext2 to ext3 or ext3 to ext4.
For me easeus works great and easy to use.
I've been moving my Apps to SD as often as possible and I have been running with about 24mb of free internal space.
Now Google+ is here and it wont go to SD I have 11MB and that annoying low space icon is sat in my notification bar taunting me.
Does this partitioning thing trick the phone into using the SDcard as if it were internal memory?
i'd use AmonRA to partition it. no need to fiddle with gparted. everything is done internally.

That all depends on what ROM u are running.. I use CM7 and a little app from market called s2e which moves all apps to partition
Other ROMs like GingerBurst use app2sd+ or data+ which do basically the same thing but built into the ROM
If you're using standard android app2sd u will always run out of space in no time

CM7 from alquez
Takes only 80 MB of your internal memory. So around 400 MB over for apps etc.
Sense rom gives you 120 MB for apps etc.
Apps 2SD gives you more space, but internal memory is faster.
You can also keep more memory for music, videos, ... on your sd card.

If it was "insufficient memory" it was googles fault. The market was screwed. Idk if its fixed with the new update, but if not, just go to downloaded apps, find the market and hit uninstall updates. Google auto updates sometimes so it's a quick fix, but it works.

When you partition the sdcard, what exactly does it let you do? Can you have a separate partition for storage and put all your apps on the other partition, like move EVERYTHING so your phone has more memory? Also, how would you do this?

I just bought a new Kingston 16 GB micro-sd card and it works normally with the computer and other phones, but not with Wildfire S.
It has two partitions - 15 Gb Fat32 and 512 Mb Ext2.
I install the rom, flash the gapps, let it boot, reboot it and flash data2sd script by Jikantaru and then reboot and when the system starts, it says, preparing sd card and it never goes, and the system hangs up and shiiit..
And the 8 Gb sd card works fine.
Can anyone help?
i think your ROM is cyanogenmod and it consumes more ram and 16gb sd card requires more ram due to heavy load...
you should try it on stock rom

If I remember correctly, there was issues with Class 6 cards.
It is class 4.
Dude. Are You sure that you partitoned your card properly? I once had this issue and i repartitioned again. Make sure that while partitioning, partition the fat32 first (primary ofcourse)
And then partition ext3-4..
( i cant guarantee that this works.. but worked for me )
