I have been thinking for a while that I like the look of this phone. Mainly the hardware keyboard, I've not tried the phone at all yet so I thought I would ask here what everyone thinks of it?
At the moment I have a TD2 (Topaz) and as far as I can tell the 2 phones are very similar but I want to know from the people who know the phone best (you lot ) would it be worth switching?
Thanks loads,
Luke.

I like mine. It is a heavy phone, but the keyboard is great. I wrote a review on Amazon (got mine from the wireless store there). My review is entitle "Good Phone But Needs Customization", and there are several good reviews there.

I think you might do well with an Google search for the specific carrier you will be using, and another for the basic phone itself.
Note that I'm on the US T-Mobile network.

Thanks for the reply,
I looked at the link you showed and something that puts me off the phone (sadly, the only thing) is the 3.2 mp camera, which, to me, is too low as I'm now used to the 5mp on my Topaz. But I do think the keyboard could swing me on that xD
I would buy it unlocked and put my vdafone sim in it as I did with my topaz (pricey but no ties anywhere)
Thanks again
I don't know much about touch diamond 2 but from this link:

Besides getting a bigger phone you're also looking at a slightly downgraded camera by moving to touch pro2.
Hi Guys,
I don't know if this question has been asked here before or not, and please spare me on the flaming if it has, but what are your honest opinions about trading in a Droid Incredible for an Evo?
Personally, I love my Incredible, and don't think there is anything wrong with it. I just wish it had some things that the Evo did.
Factors that matter to me and I am considering the Evo for:
1. Largest screen
2. Front facing Camera
3. HDMI port
Factors that scare me, or keep me from an Evo:
1. I have heard the size is really uncomfortably big, is this true?
2. I heard the battery life is horrible on the Evo! Personally I think the battery life on the Incredible is nothing special either, but I heard it's really bad on the Evo. I almost never use 3/4G or data, and just use WiFi very little, so this might not be a big deal for me.
I am sorry for writing this post without actually having an Evo in my hand, but it's sold out in my local stores. I intend to just ask for a trade on Craig's List or buy it from Ebay, if I get positive responses...
Also, 4G is negligible for me, since I will be using it on the Verizon network. Thanks for all your help, guys! I really appreciate your help!!
Dont really see any use for a larger screen, HDMI port or front facing camera.
I would get the samsung galaxy S for verizon when it comes out, its screen is in the middle of size betwen the dInc and evo. I dont believe it has HDMI out or front facing camera. Also EVO is on sprint and i know sprint by my sucks the fat one. I would rather stay on VZW.
I've held the evo. Its fat. I mean its cool, the front facing camera is awesome, and the HDMI out is awesome. But its fat. I mean.... obese...
Hmm, it's funny, but not completely unexpected the responses I am getting for the same post in the Evo forum versus the DInc.
So for your guys it really comes down to the size, huh? I thought about the Galaxy S, but other than the screen quality on that thing, I am not too attracted to it. Something about a Samsung product, just never sounded right to me (even though our DInc screens might be Samsung, huh )? Plus, I love Sense, I don't think there is a better implementation of Android, so far, in terms of the UI, than Sense.
Front facing camera is really the biggest force pulling towards the Evo. The screen is also a huge component, cause, it's the biggest in so far (other than Dell Streak, which I don't care for).
Since we're here, why not make the inevitable comparison and ask abou the Droid X... what do you guys think ?
Thanks for all your posts!

Huh? did I miss something?
ummm... how will you use it on the verizon network? the evo is locked to sprint even though its a cdma phone... and pls dont talk abot flashing the IMEIs. Its dangerous (not sure if its illegal or whatever) but certainly can brick your phone. A 4.3" screen brick with HDMI, and a front camera will still be a brick. If u want a bigger screen - i would recommend the droid x, even though it does not feel as sweet as the htc phones. Cant help with the front facing camera - seems none of the VZ phones have that.
Verizon's getting the EVO. Yippi
Sent from my Incredible using XDA App
Nope, no way. Don't want a phone that big (same goes for the Droid X), and I sure as hell don't want Sprint.
(You asked for an honest opinion )
why would anyone want to pay 10 dollars extra a month for a 4g that is pretty spotty at the moment and not available everywhere?
The LCD screen of the EVO is no match for the AMOLED display of the incredible.
Other than that.. if you are OK with switching to sprint network over VZW.. then go for it.
I think he means he'll be using VZW towers, since Sprint phones use VZW service if they're out of range of their own towers.
I think...
Or I could be wrong. I usually am.
Either way, in response to your original post, here's my issue. I took a look at the Droid X and left the store very happy with my Incredible, for the same reason I wouldn't buy an Evo. Simply put, you can't use the phone in one hand. Unless you have gigantic thumbs, there is no way you can manipulate the entire screen with your thumb, while holding the phone in the same hand. It's not a question of the phone feeling too bulky. It will still fit in your pocket just fine. It's not an iPad (with wings) after all. It really comes down to whether or not you use your phone one handed or not. If you always hold it, and manipulate the screen with the index finger of your other hand, great. Get the Evo. If not, you'll hate it.

No flame here, but i'm curious as to what exactly youre using the phone for besides calls.
On a different note, considering the large screen and front facing camera are the two deciding factors for you, i would say stick with the incredible. I promise you the EVO isnt gonna be the last phone with these features. im sure the next phone to have these 2 features will utilize them much better than the EVO does.
I went the opposite way. I had an evo and returned it for an incredible.
The phones are more similar than different. Battery life was pretty much the same. No major differences in performance, though the inc seems a tiny bit more responsive.
I didnt see any use for hdmi out on the evo - I already have an htpc connected to the tv for viewing anything online. I've had front facing cameras on every laptop I've owned on the last 5 years and never really used it so not a real advantage for me.
Size wise the inc is more comfortable, but the evo is not too big.
I'm in a 4g city, but at home and work 4g performance was no better than 3g.
Rate plans for me were very close in costs, though Sprint was more flexible.
I returned the evo due to WiFi range issues and general concerns that I'd bought a multimedia device that happened to be a smartphone when what I really wanted was a smartphone that could occasionally play multimedia.
Add in Versions option for 1 year contracts, and the inc was a better fit for me.

I would suggest finding a demo unit somewhere to get a feel for the size. As far as battery life goes, if your not using data very heavily and constantly messing around on the phone you should have no problem going all day on a charge. It depends heavily on your usage. I think they are both good phones, and you will ultimately have to decide for yourself. I know that's not what you wanted to hear.
As far as using the EVO on verizon's network, I assume you are familiar with the necessary steps to sneak the phone's MEID into Verizon's database? That is not something just anyone can do.
IMO until the next gen comes out the EVO is the best phone money can buy.
I actually love the size, its not too big for me at all. I don't use a case or screen protector. Back when I had BB's I got in the habit of devoting my front left pocket solely to my phone. The EVO is so perfect for me its scary
Battery life is a non issue if you know how to set up and use the thing.

No complaints about size or battery life (last phone was a G1) and if you can use a computer, you can make the EVO better than any phone out there imho

Thanks for your responses, guys.
I guess it really comes down to preference, huh? I got the exact opposite advice to this in the DInc forums, but that's not unexpected, is it ?
I don't think the size should be a problem for me either, but like you guys suggested, I really have to try it for myself.
What do you guys think about the strong knocking on the EVO's camera? People say its HD recording is a joke... Obviously I don't follow the threads, but the FPS updates and tweaks, improve that stuff?
How about the mirror capturing of the front-facing camera?
There's also some buzz about the screen being duller, cause it's an LCD TFT screen, with only 265K colors? As opposed to the AMOLED on the DInc, and 16 m colors?
Heck, since we're here, why not I mention it... what do you guys think about the Droid X as an option?
I really appreciate your responses again, thank you!
I think the screen size is perfect. At first it did seem big and like 20 minutes later and felt like any other phone to me..
Battery life is perfect for me as well. Gets me through the whole day so not much more I could ask for outve the battery.
I'd say pick up the evo.
Sent from my HTC Evo 4G using XDA app.
And as an added bonus, the Sprint plans are cheaper. It's a win-win.
My opinion on the EVO 720p recording is that it is not top quality filming material. There is a lot of granularity in the shots and it lacks a crisp HD look. With that said I have never used a phone as a primary camcorder and point and shoot device like I have with the EVO, and I love it for what it gives me - quick spontaneous moments caught on film and at a very passable quality. Just remember it is a phone first and camera second and you won't be disappointed. If you use it outdoors in sunlight it works fantastic, low light settings, not so much.
If you prefer AMOLED and the rich colors, you might be little disapointed with the EVO TFT. FWIW I don't think either technology works well in direct sunlight, but I would take LCD over AMOLED just for that reason.

To each their own, but I love my EVO (and I have played with several Incredibles), my wife (who is not a phone person loves hers...I get no attention now) and my 15yr old daughter loves hers. I don't think I could comfortably go back to a small screen device.

hello everyone. i'm thinking bout gettting a defy. just wanted to know what everyone thought about it. i have a iphone 3g but cant use it on t-mobile only on the edge network its so slow. i really like that i can change anything with my iphone i want. is the defy fully customizable?
Motorola usues a locked bootloader so it will never be "fully customizable" when compared to devices made by HTC, but there is a LOT that can be done to it. If you take a look around the forum you will see what all is possible. Though a lot of what is done here requires you to be rooted first.
As far as my thoughts on the phone itself I am really happy with it. I probably would have preferred a G2 or MT4G, but for the price this is a great phone and I like that I don't have to worry as much about it getting damaged. It is certainly fast enough (once overclocked) to compete with the big boys. I have no regrets.
Thanks for the info
if you think you can change what you like on an iphone then u will enjoy being able to change things on android since its totally open their is a lot been done already.
I think it is much better and to use as a phone its brilliant plus its waterpoof!
Hi -- I have a Droid Charge and while I like it, I admit I'm jealous of the GNex, or at least of what the Gnex is supposed to be. I don't have an upgrade coming until 2013, but may be able to add a "ghost line" to my account and pick up a Gnex for $300 at a Verizon store, then sell my Charge. But I've heard there are major battery/speakerphone/radio-connectivity/other issues with the Gnex. So my question is... is everyone here in love with theirs? Any regrets? Anyone who was jonesing to get one but is now disappointed? Any opinions out there that can help me make my choice, I'd be so grateful. Thanks!!!
I'm going to try to post this as politely as I can without sounding like an @$$hole because I am not trying to be rude, but you could likely gather a vast pool of information by reviewing the several hundred threads within the Galaxy Nexus category to see what the common complaint is.
To not be completely useless in posting here, I personally enjoy the Galaxy Nexus a lot. You'll find people complain about all the same things as every other phone, including but not limited to:
Battery life
Screen durability
Screen brightness
Software incompatibilities
Camera function, performance, and/or capability
etc....
I've looked at a lot of threads, but I wanted to try and get an overview that wasn't necessarily based on squeaky wheels. A thousand people may love it and have no problem, but the ten who do post and negative connotations are born. I did do a search for an opinion thread like mine, and didn't find anything. For anyone who feels like the above poster, I apologize. For any others who don't mind giving me their opinion, I'd appreciate it.
Was in a similar position like you... I could get mine for a few bucks less, but I wasn't sure at all. But then I thought I'll give it a go and if I don't like it I'd just sell it.
After two weeks all I can say is I just love that phone and it was the the best buy since a long time.
Imo the screen is absolutely amazing, the image is razor-sharp due to the hd resolution and the colors are pretty "natural". What I'm trying to say with "natural" is, that when I compare the screen with the Galaxy S2 from a mate, the Nexus is more vibrant. The S2 is brighter, but looks kinda artificial. You could say the Nex looks more like a printed page and the S2 like a computer screen. The black on the Nex screen is truly black!
Battery life is ok, pretty good in idle is you ask me. But when you actually use your phone, the big screen takes its toll... but I have no problem to get over an entire day, even with heavy use. A lot of messaging, facebook, listening to music for an hour, at least an hour of playing games, playing around with my screen setup and voice calls (30 mins) today and I came home with 25% left.
And yes, there are some occasional software issues. But nothing big that would make the device unusable. Small glitches, you could say. After all it's a developer phone.
The phone itself looks very nice with the all-glass front and the overall feel is high-quality.
To sum it up: yes, there are some small issues, like with every other device. And yes, I would say, there is a big chance that you might like the GNex or even love it, like me
If you got any questions, feel free to ask!
I got an upgrade coming up on the 23rd so thanks to the OP for asking this question.

i absolutely LOVE mine, but it is the GSM version not the verizon one. it seems the verizon version with LTE has bad battery problems where it loses 20% overnight with no usage. the GSM version loses 4% over an 8 hour period. so i dont know how i would feel about that.
Yeah, Roger, that does concern me a lot. As the guy who chided me posted, battery issues on 4g phones are fairly common, but I'm hearing that the LTE version of the GNex's issues are pretty egregious.

No, I'm not on a 4G network, so I can't tell you about the battery life. I'm on a HSDPA net here. Compared to my HTC Desire S (Saga), the only noticable difference is that the GN drains more battery while the screen is on. But that is just plain logic, since the screen is much bigger and the resolution is higher. I'm also still on 4.0.1, the battery life on 4.0.2 and 4.0.3 is supposed to be even better.
The speaker volume is pretty low, that is right. But this is also something that's fixed with the update afaik and there is also an app in the market which lets you boost the speaker volume. This is definitely no reason for not buying the phone!
Any more questions? Just ask! And if helped you, pressing the thanks button is highly appreciated
Over all .... I am very happy with the Nexus and have no buyers remorse

I am (slowly) moving an entire family plan to Verizon... largely because of the GN, but mostly because they have coverage everywhere I need it.
I live in the DFW area, so 4G has been steady and available all over my daily living/working spaces (except work, where the building kills the LTE but I can use it outside.)
Anyway, I know there are a lot of people with issues but I have to say, I have loved this phone every second so far. My battery life has been fine, could be better, because I don't use it every second of the day. I use a BlackBerry for work, so that helps, I guess.
I say go for it... if you don't like it you have like 14 days to return it and only be out the prorated service costs, I believe. (That's how Sprint was, anyway. Surely VZW does the same.)
For what its worth, I tweaked my phone's speaker with dspmanager. It is plenty loud and has more detail and bass with less of a high treble tin sound. Better speaker IMO vs the rezound and charge.

for those who's got Gnex already: dont regret!! it was a great choice.
for those who hasnot got: Gnex is no much better than gs2, except for ICS (sg2 is getting ICS anyway).
however, giving the fact i have both devices. i have to say, Gnex is compatible with way more games (especially gameloft and ea games) on the google market, whie gs2 is not.
Thanks everyone for all these replies! I have worried about the reception/radio issues, though I'm in a strong 4G area, Los Angeles, so I'm hoping if I get the GNex I'll have similar results as Is_907.
Again, really appreciate all this, it's making me lean towards taking the plunge...
Don't let people with razr/rezound tell you otherwise, this is the best phone by far all around - however it has some deal breakers that are subjective (like the storage).
Now the real question is, is it worth the upgrade from a Droid Charge? I would honestly say no.
My dad and sister both have them, while nexus is definitely a step up - droid charge is pretty much the best of the last gen phones, I would wait for the next big thing - like galaxy s3, which will also likely have samoled+ hd and sd card.
Just put cm7 and load ics theme for now. (I did that on my moto triumph and fell in love with it again)

Verizon 4G coverage is pretty good and I have a signal everywhere I go (and speeds are INCREDIBLE). I haven't seen any reception issues.
Interesting, wonshikee. You've got me thinking...
I hear keeping 4G off when not needed helps a lot with the battery. I only live in a 3G area so I'm not 100% certain. Just use 4G when needed, 3g if OK for normal operation.
