im not sure whats going on with my phones GPS, i can never get it working. i've flashed to/from AOKP, CM9, Stock ICS Leaks, and back to EL29. Even back at EL29 I get a lock initially the first time I run GPS Test, the next day however it never locks. Ive tried to update AGPS within GPS Test and also ##GPSCLRX# to no avail. I've also flashed stock using the EFS Clear option on Odin as suggested in another thread. I still can never get a lock. I know its a problem with my phone, because I've ran GPS on my dad's E4GT side by side with mine, he get 8 satellites and locks instantly.
Any suggestions?
On my last replacement epic touch, GPS was great on gingerbread. Then I put ICS and GPS worked for a day. Then I put back EL29 and GPS only locked after 10 minutes. 40 meter range max. ICS killed my GPS and I got it replaced again. This time my phone works well with ICS

It's known that EL29 GPS dies after the phone sleeps for a while. There is a fix though:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1466561
It won't make your GPS perform better, it will only prevent it from not functioning after sleeping. I would suggest trying all modems. FE10 has been spectacular for me, but it may not be that great for you. I would stick to gingerbread and keep trying different modems until you find one that works well. Don't be afraid to try older modems such as EG30.

Can anyone who's flashed the new EB13 already and has actual knowledge of the GPS problems (not just experiencing them but knows a bit about how it works and the problems we were facing) care to report on the "GPS fix" that came with the update. Appreciate it!
It doesn't work for me
works for me !!!
Worked for me pretty much. One street away (and I'm at a corner, so it's like only 20 ft off or so)
Hum I rebooted mine and still it wont lock on should I try and downgrade then upgrade again or is there some kind of simple fix for it?
Hi im jay. You could do a ##786# then enter your msl hit reset then go outside and try again. Remember nandroid back up first

Mine is dead too! flashed back to 2.1, still dead, flashed to 2.2.1 with samsung updater. Still dead. hmmm what should I try next?
Thanks all!
Gps is flawless for me

Used Samsung tool to flash to froyo.

Tried the ##786# Trick with MSL

Screw You Samsung!!!! Looks like its gonna be a refurb phone for me....
yea updating to froyo definitely broke your gps. Fried some chips on your phone for sure. Getting a new one will definitely make gps work for you. Its obviously Samsungs fault, lets blame them.
P.S.
A) are you trying INSIDE or OUTSIDE
B) works for me
GPS is working flawless for me, both inside and out. Lock in 5 seconds outdoors and 10 seconds indoors and accurate to 3 meters.
1st try locked on within 6 meters.
Glad to hear most of your gps are 'fixed'. Coming from the Captivate section... lol
I went to the market and got "GPS status" and ran the program and now I get lock in a few seconds even indoors.
Gps works same.as it did.in dk28 for.me. its very accurate
Sent from my Evo Killer!!!
My collegue who got the OTA froyo confirms that his GPS lock is better.
I've always had an easy time locking onto sats from DI18 to DK28.
What I'm interested in is that it KEEPS the locks. DK28 would randomly drop satellites after a few minutes of constant use. It would be really annoying when using navigation, but after about a minute or 2 it would relock.
Try actually using your nav for a few trips and then you'll see if the GPS was actually fixed or not.
I know a couple of people who had the same issue and I'm really hoping the official froyo fixed this.
Before update:
Running rooted DI18
GPS by satellite was "ok", but not perfect.
aGPS was non-existent - didn't work at all.
After EB13 update/root:
GPS by satellite hasn't been thoroughly tested - results to follow at a later time.
aGPS is flawless! Beautiful Widgets' weather & Foursquare both working now.

Thank you so very much for specifying.
My GPS was horrible for DI18, better for DK28 (would lock up after 20+ minutes, though, and cause a reboot) and seems to be working for EB13.
I do not use network locations at all.
GPS works with Airplane mode on, it seems. Using MapDroyd, I received a lock and location in seconds.
I will run this while driving home to see if the GPS locks up and stops working as it did in DK28.
I tried the Tiamac kernel for my EVO but the gps signal kept going in and out. Im pretty sure it's due to power save, but I had to plugged into power. Is there a kernel out there that doesn't try to mess with things like gps that are needed while using maps? I can understand if I didn't have a navigation application open, but i can't have gps being turned on and off while trying to navigate in a busy city and especially when it's plugged into power.
Unless I am doing something wrong, please let me know. I had to revert back to a backup to get my gps working correctly. I am using deck's rc10 gingerbread aosp rom btw.
Thanks!
for some gingerbread and gps work fine...others cant get it to work properly. the gps fix and all that used to work for me, not lately. so im back to sense.
that's the thing, it works just fine with the rom itself, but when i tired adding the kernel, that's when things got screwy with gps going in and out. i would have to manually turn off gps, wait 5 sec and turn it back on via the notifications drop down menus. Maybe my phone doesn't like kernels at all, haha.
Try the gps fix, them flash back, then open maps first. Never had an issue on my old evo, or the brand new evo I just rooted. Never had to use the fix, but like they say, works fine for some, off for others. Make sure you're on the latest version of CM7 as well.
I'll give it a shot. the thing is that my gps was working fine on the rom until i flashed the tiamac kernel. I'll try it and report back
So as the title states, my Epic has been plagued by random reboots since installing EG22. The unit was a new replacement, not a refurbished replacement that tech support normally gives. I've had it all of four weeks now. It ran EF02 pretty perfectly. I have tried reloading EC05 (with ODIN) then loading EG22, and no dice. Before I flash EG22 I wipe the phone, cache, and dalvik 3 times. I've also redownloaded and hash checked the EG22 update I use (using the stock/deodexed EG22 update.zip from the development forum). Still no improvement, the phone will randomly reboot every 1-2 hours. Any advice on what I could try next is appreciated.

UPDATE: also I cannot get into the "SYSTEM UPDATES" menu in the Settings/About Phone menu. Each time I try I get a forced close then a system reboot. Could the phone just not like EG22?
I have experienced reboots on both EE03 and EF02. I haven't tried EG22 as of yet. I hae never had it happen on EC05. I figure I'll just wait until the release because my phone just doesn't like the beta/leaked stuff.
Any test software has a chance that it will not work 100%
All Gingerbread leaks crash and reboot in low signal areas. I am assuming this is one of the reasons official hasn't been released yet.

Ok, but one I have an airave about 12 ft away from my phone so I get a great signal. And two, I'm still getting FC's when I try to enter the system updates menu. So I still think it could be something wrong with my phone.

How did you install EG22? If you did it through CWM it could have just been a bad flash. For the system menu problem. The crashes occur for me too, like above post low signal areas are not a gb leaks friend.

I have been flashing zip versions thru CMW. I'll look up an ODIN-able EG22 tar or md5 and try it that way. But I will ODIN back to EC05 (with repartition to wipe the phone) then update to EG22. I'll let you all know.
As far a signal goes though, I'm getting full bars right now because my Airrave is so close to me.

You are right, that shouldn't happen with an Airave. A reflash may fix the issues you are having. Also don't use any CPU managers like SetCPU or Voltage Control on GB until source code and custom kernels show up.

Yup. That was it. Bad flash. This time I d/l'ed a .tar version of EG22 to flash with ODIN. Much better than before. No more FC's from the system menu and its been running 8 hours straight with no reboots. Muchas garcias.

Spoke too soon. I've had two random reboots, one yesterday, one today. So it definitely fits with what all y'all said that leaked GB ROMs tend to crash. Still not as bad as before, and I no longer get the FC's from the system updates menu.
I had one last night and one tonight at my house which I get a crap signal at in what Sprint describes as an "excellent coverage area" No other problems anywhere else.
I've had my first random reboot. Phone was WIFI connected, and forced roaming (Sprint has a tower down in my area, going on 7 days now). It was in the middle of a content update for an application I run, so I'm wondering if there is a memory leak for the network user or kernel space.
Does anyone know of an application that will keep a log of memory usage to track if a process is not releasing its resources?
Yup, same here. About once every two days I get a reboot. I haven't been able to connect anything I'm doing to the reboots, and it usually does it while the phone is just sitting.
Trouble is, Gingerbread is soooo much better than Froyo I don't want to go back
I really think it is the modem crashing.
You may want to try another modem.
also, i realised that on my wife's epic with eg22, it rebooted about 5 times a day, most of the time, it was right after using the slide out keyboard.
i deleted the keyboard counter slide apk thingy, since then, 1 reboot a day.
not great, but definitely better than 5.

Are you sure it is not a loose battery connection? My phone would do that with the extended battery and case. Had to put a little piece of thick paper in there to hold it tighter.
Definitely was the modem. I flashed the EE02 modem & now no random reboots. Signal(s) & battery life have gotten better too. I would have flashed the EF02/EF10 modem but that downgrade notice is oh so damn annoying!
Me and my friend have the same issue on our Epics OP, Its annoying but Im dealing with it cause these roms are so much better than pre eg22.
I dont have any random reboots but I get a random double vibrate. I have no idea where that is coming from
I've had two random boots since I've odin'd from EC05.. though I feel it was memory leak, and the phone just shutdown without sufficcient ram.

Yeah well I tried the EH06 modem and it broke the 4G (amongst other things). So I got ol' reliable EE03 to fall back on.
I dont know how many of you guys know about this, but this driver is a life saver for the Evo. For a lot of Evo's, GPS lock can take FOREVER. However, with these drivers, GPS lock on Evo is INSTANT (within 5 seconds)!
I thought that since our phones have qualcomm hardware, these drivers might work. My E4GT (stock with Rogue's EK02 kernel and recovery) takes for-e-ver to get a lock if at all (indoor locks are a bona-fide no-go). However, after flashing this, I now get a quick lock outdoors, and get a lock indoors within 30 seconds. Perhaps it's just a fluke/placebo effect, I dont know. Been rebooting and testing these GPS drivers for the last couple hours and everything seems kosher now. YMMV.

How's the stability / speed of GPS lock after you leave the screen off 10 or so minutes?
So far I've been using the following gps.conf + SetCPU profile with good results:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1356865
I already own SetCPU, but it would be nice to offer a solution to friends with the Epic 4G Touch without having to set up SetCPU for them.
i updated my op witht he correct links. sorry for the confusion!

can't tell you right now, i'm at work. i will tell you though, i did leave the screen off (with gps status running) for about 20 minutes while i was getting ready for work. when the screen came back on (after i got in my car), only took about 5 seconds to lock on after i opened google maps.
thanks a lot this fix worked for me
i see mention of battery issues on some of the earlier driver revisions... can the people that flash this report on any additional battery drain?
is there a way to revert from these drivers? i guess just nandroid first and revert back if needed?
Thanks GPS fixed

Yes, I believe a nandroid backup will suffice. It's like that on the Evo anyways.
Can a MOD please sticky this...I think its very essential... this fix is flawless bro!

Also I sometimes have issues when changing roms with GPS but I have found that the app GPS status works great by just clearing out cache. You go to Tools - Options - choice at the bottom.. let it do its thing and then check your GPS again.
Just an alternative but the GPS fix posted here has worked wonders for the OG Evo

I have an OG Epic and had to flash a fix (the GPS started sucking pretty bad after the recent 2.3 update), so when I noticed my roommates ET4G was having GPS issues too I convinced her to let me root it (couldn't help myself), and more importantly flash CWM and this fix. I can say, their effects were nearly identical on both devices (albeit I used a different fix for my OG Epic: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1321049). After that fix on my device, and this fix on her ET4G we both went from 0-1 Sat locks in GPS Status, and unusable Google Nav to 4-7 locks and completely usable Google Nav. Neither device has had any other GPS issues since the fix (no freezes, etc).
GPS fixed!
Hi,
This is my first time posting on the xda forums as I only read others comments and try out things. Followed the cdma hero when I had it and now this.
Well I had gps issues. when I got this phone I tried every type of fix in this these forums. I tried the trick about configuring the gps.conf in the other forum post, additionally tried putting the set cpu to the screen off 500-500 100priority trick. The gps would work at times but would take around a minute to do so or sometimes when I had the phone on idle for a few hours it would never connect until a reboot.
At this I would have tried anything to fix the gps and I found this thread. I was like might as well try it if anything I can just nandroid back. Man it worked flawlessly. I tested every scenario in which I restarted the phone and it locked in 5seconds and then idled the phone for over 4 hours and then turned on gps status and it connected within 10-15seconds. This is all without clearing the cache too. But when I did clear it, it would lock faster.
My phone is set up with all the previous configurations from the other thread and this gps fix. There is definitely a performance difference, so its not the placebo effect. I haven't isolated if this fix was the the fix that corrected my gps or if it was the combination of both. But this sure works. Sorry for the long post lol hope this helps whoever had the same problem as me.
Ps. The whole phone is perfect. No los. Good battery. It was just the gps issue.

So then, you recommend doing a nandroid backup, then Flash the Drivers, if nothing ends up working, one can always reflash the previous backup and you're set as before?... also is there any wipes needed to be done before flashing the backup?

Placebos are powerful things
I have a question about the GPS fix for ICS ROM's. My GPS was working great then it just stopped and I could never get it to lock again. So I did the GPS fix of doing a nandroid of the ROM then flashing back to a GB ROM and getting a GPS lock then restoring the nandroid. GPS worked great after that for several days. Then out of the blue no more GPS lock. So the question is, is there any way to make the fix stick more than a few days (a week or less)?
