[Q] Kernels that don't mess with gps on EVO - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I tried the Tiamac kernel for my EVO but the gps signal kept going in and out. Im pretty sure it's due to power save, but I had to plugged into power. Is there a kernel out there that doesn't try to mess with things like gps that are needed while using maps? I can understand if I didn't have a navigation application open, but i can't have gps being turned on and off while trying to navigate in a busy city and especially when it's plugged into power.
Unless I am doing something wrong, please let me know. I had to revert back to a backup to get my gps working correctly. I am using deck's rc10 gingerbread aosp rom btw.
Thanks!

for some gingerbread and gps work fine...others cant get it to work properly. the gps fix and all that used to work for me, not lately. so im back to sense.

that's the thing, it works just fine with the rom itself, but when i tired adding the kernel, that's when things got screwy with gps going in and out. i would have to manually turn off gps, wait 5 sec and turn it back on via the notifications drop down menus. Maybe my phone doesn't like kernels at all, haha.

Try the gps fix, them flash back, then open maps first. Never had an issue on my old evo, or the brand new evo I just rooted. Never had to use the fix, but like they say, works fine for some, off for others. Make sure you're on the latest version of CM7 as well.

I'll give it a shot. the thing is that my gps was working fine on the rom until i flashed the tiamac kernel. I'll try it and report back

[Q] GPS - Blueetooth - Screen Rotation :: Issues on Froyo- PLEASE HELP !!

Is anybody else having a GPS issue? I am totally unable to get a GPS lock on my slide after i flashed the TeamFenix v2.0 Froyo Rom.
Also is there any other GPS navigation besides the google one that's pretty good?
Im also experiencing a lag to the Screen Rotation on the home screen .
Auto-Rotate Screen is checked off in Display settings. However it takes me a good 5 seconds before switching. Is there anyway to fix that?
My bluetooth is also not working. It's paired up and connected to the device. However, it doesnt ring and I cannot operate it (no talk, answer)
Im running TeamFenix v2.0 which i believe is just a new n better version of the CM6.
mod please move to q & a
A little reading would have revealed that yes it is based off cm6 recent version and that cm6 suffers some gps issues on some versions. Bluetooth does not work on cm6. Try an oc kernal if you havent already to fix your screen rotate lag
Sent from my T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide using XDA App
it would help to know what oc kernel you are running (if you are running one) and what home launcher you are using (ADW, LauncherPro... ect)
as far as the Bluetooth I answered that for ya a couple of days ago in the #TeamFenix v2.0 thread... until Cyanogen and the rest of #Teamdouche release CM 6.x.x we probably won't see a fix for BT using 2.2
the screen lag SHOULD be able to be fixed by one of a couple easy fixes... if you are running Launcher Pro un-install and re-install. if you are running the latest Dopio OC kernel (3.5) turn off you screen off profile.
for the GPS don't know about 2.0, however I do know it works just fine in TF 1.7.1 (I used it today to find a my newest shipper on my route)
but like I said on Friday if you must have BT then you will have to go back to a 2.1 ROM

hey
As far as kernel, Im running : Dumfuq OC 825-v3.2-legend-cm-2.6.29. Im using LauncherPro.
Okay thanks again, sorry to be a pain, it's just very inconvenient not to have the bluetooth specially when im driving and stuff and hoping there was an alternative but guess not....thx again. I guess u cant have both uh.
Since im using LauncherPro so imma try to uninstall and reinstall as you suggested...will let u know if it fixes the problem.Thx.
As far as GPS, then i guess its 2.0 issue ....cuz it's not working, when using google maps navigation, i keep getting the Waiting for GPS message , no lock watsoever.
I am running CM6 on my slide, and I can get a GPS lock. It's just a little tedious is all. I always have GPS turned off unless I'm using it. So these are the steps I use to get a signal/location lock.
1) Turn GPS on
2) Turn Navigation on and select address
It will never connect for me the first time
3) Exit Navigation and turn GPS off
4) Turn GPS back on and open Navigation
5) Select address again and make sure my phone is on my dashboard or can see the sky, and let it looks for about a minute.
If it doesn't get a location in a minute or so I repeat 3-5. I'm not sure if the phone needs to have a lined sight to the sky, but I know my gfs dads old gps needed it and I just do it to make sure.
Reflash an 806 kernel and your GPS should work. It seems that part of the chipset can't handle more than 806. And it's not that much slower than 825 anyway.

[Q] serious problem with radios, need help asap

hello peeps. i need a bit of help right now at a serious issue. so here's a bit of back story:
so, i flash caulkin's evio 1.8. it has these new extended data settings. i set nat to auto (which i think is default) and mode (forget what its called) to hybrid. within minutes, the cdma mode is back at evdo-only. so i try again. again, switches back in just minutes. then, i realize i havent recieved any phone calls or texts in that time. i call somebody, and instantly i get 4 missed call notifications and 15 texts. that is wired. so i nand back to 1.7.7, and then flash to myns, and then miui. on all of them, i have the same no call/text until phone call problem. that is pretty crazy, right?
i have done an ruu (leaving s-off to save time) and thats about all i have done so far besides flashing around. is there anything i can do?
obviously, this is a serious problem, as i cant use my phone as a phone anymore, because it doesnt work as one. i need this fixed as soon as possible, so i can go back to having a phone...
can anybody help me? thanks.
normal. my phone did this unrooted... its sprint failing. It annoyed me so freakin much... it did it at least once a week. would normally last an hour or two.
I never found any solution besides updating profile and just waiting it out... and keep making phone calls.
Sprint couldn't help either. they gave me a new phone but it still did it.
really? this sounds pretty wired to me... i'll try flashing back to caulkins 1.8 and see what the hell happens.
ok, i flashed back to calkulin's 1.8, and changed to auto nat and hybrid mode, and it works! now lets see if it stays.

yeah really. there has been quite a few of these complaints. Some of the others it didn't matter if they changed roms even.
ok, it keeps going back to evdo-only every 5 minutes. and bad battery. i'll flash either a ziggy or netarchy kernel to fix battery but i cant fix the issue with it constantly turning to evdo only.
This might help. If you're running a Sense ROM, get into EPST (##3282#), you'll need your MSL. Then omewhere there you should be able to set the radio mode. Your EVO is in EVDO only mode, which means 1x services have been disabled in favor of 3G and therefore no texts or calls will work. Make sure that it's back to Hybrid.
hey ffolks. i just found this in calkulin's thread, and it turns out that it was in auto mode! it was in evdo-only somehow when i posted this, but now it is working perfectly. loving 1.8 (besides all the work it took me) w/ the newest ziggy kernel.
btw, msl reader freezes me up and reboots. sucks.

gps issues

Ok so my gps used to work fine and then I tried a bunch of different themes and now it won't turn on. I push the button in the pull down bar and it looks like it is on but the gps symbol never shows up. Anyone have a clue what to do.
I dont know much about it but this may help. If your using a custom rom you may have to reflash it. Im using StarskyRom and gps has constantly worked good for me.
I know that the 2 Epics in my household worked fine as far as GPS goes on Froyo, but after the OTA to GB, they each would only lock onto 4 sats out of 10 and it take a very long time to do it. This problem is a known GB bug. But if you root like I did, you can quickly flash the GPS fix and wow! It will lock on to 8, 9 or 10 in just a few seconds. Other people were complaining that they had noticed that the Navigation apps would also lock up after about 30 minutes. I suspect this was due to only locking on 4 and losing one or 2 of those.
Go ahead and root and get the GPS fix kernel. Also, there's one other kernel flash you must do to get your root to stick (otherwise you'll lose it on your next reboot) and that kernel also fixes the missing keyboard key strokes when you text too fast.
GPS issues
I too am having new GPS issues. I flashed Legendary 4.01 and it is working great other than my GPS constantly polling. It is probably some app but I cannot figure out what app is doing it. I have uninstalled my weather app. I have fewer apps installed now, then when I was on Bonsai ROM and this is a new issue. No new app from my Bonsai install. Any suggestions or tips for determining the cause would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
I am on froyo eco5. I am using srf 1.2 genocide 2.0 and emotionless beast theme. Everything was working great then I wanted to try some different themes. So I tried 4-5 of them wiping cache and dalvik three times each everytime I flashed each theme. After all the different themes I ended up with a whole bunch of different parts of each theme. So I wanted to go back to emotionless beast so I wiped everything and flashed rom, kernal, and theme all over again and my gps stopped working. Is there any fix for it?
Ok so found out that my gps does work if I launch a program that uses gps then go into the settings and turn it on. So the only thing that does not work is the gps button in the pull down bar. Any idea why this would happen?

It does sound like a theme issue. I'm not sure exactly why that's happening. I would try re-installing the theme to remedy that.
Ok so I reflashed my theme and still nothing. The gps button just seems like it is not connected to turn on the gps on. I don't know what to do. Anyone else.

Reflash the ROM without the theme and try it.

AOKP issues

First of all, I want to say that I absofreakinglutely love this ROM. I have FINALLY convinced my friends with Evos to root and give this thing a shot because of what this ROM is capable of.
I have two issues that maybe I can get some assistance with. I am running Milestone 4.
First, the GPS just doesn't work. I lose GPS signal instantly and it does not guide me. I have flashed GAPPS, this did not actually put Maps on my phone so I installed it from the market. Any assistance with this would make me pretty much shutup.
Second, there is a lag when I turn on the screen to when the screen actually turns on. I haven't officially timed it, but I would say it is a second, maybe slightly longer. I have turned off all animation. This problem isn't going on 100% of the time, but at least 50%.
Thank you for reading!
Welcome to the world of running Alpha ROMs.
So there isn't anything we can do about these things?

Look into an updated GPS radio. AOKP Build28 ran GPS fine on my handset, apart from GoogleMaps liking to drain battery in the background....I had flashed an updated GPS radio when on CM7.1 last year

gps help

im not sure whats going on with my phones GPS, i can never get it working. i've flashed to/from AOKP, CM9, Stock ICS Leaks, and back to EL29. Even back at EL29 I get a lock initially the first time I run GPS Test, the next day however it never locks. Ive tried to update AGPS within GPS Test and also ##GPSCLRX# to no avail. I've also flashed stock using the EFS Clear option on Odin as suggested in another thread. I still can never get a lock. I know its a problem with my phone, because I've ran GPS on my dad's E4GT side by side with mine, he get 8 satellites and locks instantly.
Any suggestions?
On my last replacement epic touch, GPS was great on gingerbread. Then I put ICS and GPS worked for a day. Then I put back EL29 and GPS only locked after 10 minutes. 40 meter range max. ICS killed my GPS and I got it replaced again. This time my phone works well with ICS

It's known that EL29 GPS dies after the phone sleeps for a while. There is a fix though:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1466561
It won't make your GPS perform better, it will only prevent it from not functioning after sleeping. I would suggest trying all modems. FE10 has been spectacular for me, but it may not be that great for you. I would stick to gingerbread and keep trying different modems until you find one that works well. Don't be afraid to try older modems such as EG30.
