Just noticed this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1646108
It is a file manager for cwm recovery. Just going to test it a bit
[Edit] Works perfectly. Could come in handy.
amarullz has done some good work on cwm recovery.

I tried it yesterday. Works very well, it's gonna be a life changer for me, i'm allways forgetting to manage files before going to recovery ^^.
Normal touch mode doesn't work so good. Try the "alternative touch" config when asked

Its is a file browser you can use in clockwork mod recovery by using install zip > (aromafilemanager.zip)
Use alternate touch method when prompted as it seems to work better

Doesn't help, because I didn't install any of those recovery apps before I was locked out of my phone.. I don't have CWM.
Unless you can install a new recovery mode without unlocking your phone?

Thanks for the reference. That's what I needed.

So we should not use install clockwork mod from inside ROM manager option?
just need root before

I'm wondering if we can use ClockworkMOD for defy inside ROM Manager. Seems to me it only needs a custom-made recovery.img and we're good to go...
Here's custom CWM for Defy.
Be sure to Thank kb7sqi for his great work!

you can backup/restore your system with Clockwork Recovery manager but it isn't possible to flash a non signed kernel with it.
If you are using one of the ics roms and your phone hangs at shutdown (from either the adv power menu or the pulldown toggles), try using quickboot from the market.

Thanks
Ti backup can also reboot without issue into recovery. im sure other root aps with a reboot option like rom manager or rom toolbox can do this as well.

I rooted my phone by odin method . Flashing clockwork mod recovery over stock recovery . And somehow I was able to install Superuser.
But now when I try to reboot in recovery it takes me to stock recovery mode not custom recovery.
I tried both recovery and they work for a while and after some time they dont.
Why is this happening ?
Su is working fine and I m on UVLH2 .
Thanks in advance

Since you already have superuser. Why not install via Rom manager or install twrp
Recovery doesn't stick for some weird reason when flashing through Odin on that firmware

Thats weird...so you can reboot into custom recovery a few times and eventually it goes back to stock? Or can you only boot custom once then it reverts?
First, look for these files and if there, delete or rename them.
/system/recovery-from-boot.p
/system/etc/install-recovery.sh
Then reinstall recovery and see if it works now.
If theyre not there, good!....well maybe!
Have you tried any other method of installing recovery?
Try using my favorite tool, Mobile Odin.
Free lite version here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1347899
(Dont forget to download the flash kernel further down the page)
Or buy full version on play store.
Download twrp here:
http://d-h.st/pNQ
Rename to recovery.img
Open Mobile Odin and tap Recovery and select that file.
Do not wipe.
Tap and confirm Flash Firmware.
Let me know how that goes.

If all you do is root your stock ROM, then no; the only change is that you will have superuser access and have the ability to remove whichever bloat apps you wish. If you flash a different modified stock ROM, then the OP from which you download the ROM should tell you what apps have been removed; although as long as you go with the modified stock ROMs, you will still have S Beam, NFC, etc.

Are you running the original stock rom on your M919 Galaxy S4 phone?
If you are using the original stock rom M919UVUAMDB firmware then follow the instructions below.
Here is how to root your phone
Download Motochopper here: Motochopper
Extract the contents of the motochopper.zip file into a new folder on your windows desktop.
Make sure USB Debugging mode is enabled on your phone.
Connect your phone to your PC computer with the usb cable.
Navigate to the new folder you have made and double click the "run.bat".
Approve the ADB connection from your computer on your phone.
If all goes well and you see no errors this will root your phone and flash superuser.
NOTE: goomanager will not work if you are NOT rooted.
Once you do this successfully the next step is to flash a recovery so go to the google playstore and install the free app called goomanager.
After its installed open the app and click the menu key then select "Install OpenRecoveryScript" and wait until it gets done flashing.
Then in goomanager select the "reboot recovery" option and it should boot into TWRP Touch recovery.
Good luck!

Install Flashify and flash TWRP Recovery. With that you do not need the home button.

Or flash CWM touch with Odin (can you boot into Odin Mode?) or with terminal emulator. So you doesn't need the home button too.
How to do it with, terminal emulator?

Why so complicated if you can do this with Flashify too?
Simply install Flashify from the Play Store. Flash your favorite touch recovery and you are done. No need for Odin or any commands in Terminal Emulator.

I never tried it with honeyx's way, so I don't know if his answer is the better solution.

Just in case here the link to Flashify.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2349847
It´s quite easy and self explenatory. Working well on our device. Used it to flash CWM and TWRP Recovery forth and back. You can also use it to flash Kernels, ROMs, whipe cache, Dalvik and so on. It will autoreboot into your recovery (be it CWM or TWRP) and execute the operations. So really way easier than dealing with Odin or command line instructions in Terminal.

Which one did you try to flash? the img or the md5 tar file? I used the img and this worked great.
Edit: I now see why it didn´t work. You are using stock GB ROM which probably even isn´t rooted and that´s why flasify isn´t working for you. So yes you have to use one of the other two in this case.

Yes, but Flashify requires ICS or newer to work correctly. Works best with any CyanogenMod ROM as this also supports custom recoveries like CWM and TWRP.
