[Q] Question about revolutionary-0.4pre4 in Desire - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I have been using revolutionary-0.4pre4 Backup and Restore and it works fine. But every backup takes a lot of space in my SD. How can I deleted one backup without affecting the others?
Best regards and thanks!

they are saved in /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup
each backup will be contained in its own folder, listed by date if it's the same recovery flashed when you used revolutionary.
to save even more space on your sd, i would recommend moving the entire folders and saving the last few somewhere safe on your PC. if you're even more paranoid you could even back them up online to dropbox/box/google drive. it's much safer to have a few recent nandroid backups just in case
to restore, simple copy the entire folders back into /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup
(a minor point if you rename your nandroid folders, don't put any spaces in them otherwise i don't think they restore)

[Q] How does everyone "store"/create their ROMS and back-ups?

Currently, I am saving the ROMS I download into a folder on my SD card named "ROMS". Within that folder I have "Froyo", "Gingerbread" and "add-ons".
Once I finish flashing a ROM (ie. reset apps, contacts, get screens set the way I want, make sure all works..etc.) I create a back-up for that ROM and name it. If I ever add new apps or anything, I reback-up..overwrite the orginal back-up..and so on..
I leave the "ROM" folder alone. Is there any reason for me to keep the orginal ROM zips when I keep updating the "back-up" folder?
I think I am just using extra space on the card that is not needed by keeping BOTH the "back-up" folder and the orgianl ROM downloaded zip file??

Best thing to do is backup all your stuff on your computer then you can delete whatever you want but leave your backups alone just invade you need them In a hurry

I do kind of the same thing....I have a folder on my SD card named ROMS and folders inside of that. After I install the ROM I delete the zip from the SD card. When I download a new ROM (Warm Z TwoPointTwo Nightlies) I backup using Recovery in CWM and I also backup my apps using TitaniumBackup.
Then I flash the new ROM and restore my apps. If anything goes wrong (so far it has not) I can always restore from the Recover backup.
Hope this helps
I keep a text file in the directory where I backup my Nandroid backups which is a legend of the backups (which ROM's, mods, etc.). I tend to delete earlier backups where a subsequent backup is of the same setup only updated. I also note which backups are still on my SD card. Since I have a 32gb card, I tend to keep the stock ROM, my last good backup, and the last backup of any prior ROM (i.e. 3 backups) on the card, in case I can't get to my computer and need a quick restore.
I use either Rom Manager or CWR to create my back-ups. I have seen alot of references to Titanium. I recently flashed a CM7 ROM where Titanium is pre-installed. What is the benefit (if any) to using Titanium instead of RM or CWR?

A text file? Sorry..new to most of this..but is storing as a text file less storage space used? Also, is it a simple matter of going into root explorer..changing the file type to .zip to access it again if needed?

I think he means making a legend as a text file and leaving the zips as is. Plus you wouldn't see much size difference by changing the extension to .txt and you'd be screwed if you got a bootloop since you'd have to change it back somehow.

Problems with Titanium Backup free version

Hi,
I recently rooted my Desire (for the first time), S-Off'd, flashed CM7r2 hboot, CyanogenMod 7.0.3 stable and created a 1GB ext3 partition using S2E set to install apps (not private apps) and dalvik-cache to sd-ext.
In my attempts to use Titanium Backup to backup and restore the system I've gotten quite frustrated.
It seemed that whenever I ran a TB backup, it was being backed up to the TitaniumBackup folder on the SD card (or whichever folder I created and set in TI's Backup Folder preferences). Immediately after performing the backup, the backed up files were visible in the TitaniumBackup folder using a file explorer yet the folder and files were never visible to view in Windows, with the SD card mounted as a Mass Storage Device. This meant I couldn't copy the backup to my PC.
Of course I tried again and again, sometimes using the same backup folder and creating many new ones too, but the folders were never visible in Windows. In fact occasionally when I created a new backup folder and ran the backup again, the folder and files from the previous backup would disappear from the card, not even visible using a file explorer on the phone and not detectable using TB's 'Detect' button in Backup Folder prefs. At the same time, the drive space occupied by the previous 'disappeared' backups wasn't freed-up, so my SD card just became more and more full (quick system info, Titanium Backup and FreeSpace all confirmed this).
I don't recall reading anywhere that one should reboot after each backup is performed by TB but decided to try it anyway. The result was, as long as I rebooted (the phone) after every backup, the backed up files were correctly saved and could be seen in Windows (and copied to my PC). Any attempt to do more than one backup before rebooting often caused problems.
I did some tests:
Test: Created folder TitaniumBackup, performed a backup then rebooted phone.
Result: Backup correctly saved and visible.
Test: Created folder TitaniumBackup2, performed a backup and rebooted.
Result: Both backups visible and correct.
Test: Created folders TitaniumBackup3 and TitaniumBackup4, ran backups to both folder locations, then rebooted.
Result: All four backups so far visible and correct.
Test: From within TB I deleted backups 2, 3 and 4, leaving backup 1 untouched. No reboot.
Result: In a file explorer the contents of backup folders 2, 3 and 4 were gone, folder 1 contents intact.
Test: Connected phone to PC and mounted sdcard.
Result: All four folders still show their full contents of backup files. Copied folders 2, 3 and 4 to PC successfully.
Test: Rebooted phone and mounted sdcard.
Result: The contents of all four folders was gone (folder 1 should have remained unchanged). This was confirmed using a file explorer on the phone. What's more, the sdcard now has 102MB less free space than when I started which happens to be the size of backup in folder 1 which has mysteriously vanished.
I appreciate this is a long post and you may not have all the answers but any ideas/suggestions would be appreciated.
It seems to me that TB is caching the changes made when a backup is performed (or deleted) ready to apply them when the phone is restarted.
Does everyone else find they must restart their phone after each backup? Or could it be down to software settings on my phone?
How can scheduled backups be relied upon if a restart is required after each backup operation?
And how can backup files be erased by accident (folder 1 in the last test above) yet the disk space remains occupied and is not freed-up?
Would appreciate your thoughts people.
Thanks,
Steve

Can't Restore from Titanium Backup?

Before I swapped out phones I ran a TI backup and then saved it on external sd card. Now I got new sgs3 and copied that folder to /sdcard/TitaniumBackup but TI Backup is not seeing it properly and doesnt give me that backup to restore. What am I doing wrong?
hard to say. are you backups not showing up? if so, did you check that TB is pointing to the folder on your sdcard? go in prefs and change backup folder then do detect and whole device. see if any other folders show up there. of course make sure you are rooted. igf your backups are showing up but just not restoring then you could have any number of issues.

Replacement phone restore twrp backup

I had to have my note2 replaced I did a twrp backup placed it on new phone in the backup twrp folder but it is not recognized. Anyone have any possible solutions? Really all I'm after is game data that was backed up,and I'm not sure where to find that particular file in the backup thanks.
pretty sure u wouldnt wanna do a full nandroid restore of your partitions to another device... but as far as your game data goes.... you can use titanium backup to recover the apk and the game data by extracting from the nandroid backup file.
I've tried to do this before. It won't work.

Hey buddy. New device just start fresh. Safest way...
Hey,
I was on the same boat as u. I got it to work. I can remember the specifics at the moment but gist of it is that twrp creates a specific backup folder unique to each device. Open up an file browser and navigate over to where u have your backup. If theyre o. Your sd card it should be TWRP > BACKUPS > (Here u should find 2 folders with a bunch of random letters and numbers)
Those 2 folders are your backup folders. One was from your old device and the other is the folder twrp created for your new device.
When u reeboot into recovery, twrp wont recognize the old backup folder since it was unique to your old phone.
Long story short. Lol. Just go into the old folder from the file browser and copy the backup to the new back up folder.
After that, delete the old backup folder. Your backup should then show up when you boot into recovery.
As for which is the old and which is the new folder. My best bet is tbat the new folder is empty and the old folder has your backup.
Hope that helps.
Let me know if you need more help.

[Q] Phone's internal memory system messed up after installing ROM

Hi,
I flashed last night Temasek's CM11 4.4.2 ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2596887), wiping user data, caches, etc (I was on a rooted stock 4.1.2 ROM).
Everything is working great so far, I love this ROM, I just noticed a problem that it's quite annoying: it seems that the internal user data file system (which would be the /sdcard folder in my old ROM) is all messed up and replicated. Here;s what happens:
I created a backup of the current ROM with Online Nandroid backup. If I use a file explorer from my phone (X-plore) and go to the "partition" /storage/emulated/0 I can see the backup created in /storage/emulated/0/clockworkmod/backup/.
However, if I connect the phone to my PC and browse the contents, the partition that I see isn't that same partition, it's an older one with older files (for example it has a clockworkmod folder but the backup isn't there, and some folders are different). What;s worse is that I can't find this "old" partition when browsing my phone with X-plore. These are the palces where I've looked at:
- /storage/emulated/0 (shows the partition where the backup I just created went, I can see the backup there)
- With root privileges:
- /data/media (shows an older second partition with different folders)
- /data/media/0 (shows the "right" partition, where the backup is)
- /sdcard (again, shows the "right" partition)
- /storage/sdcard0 (same here, shows the "right" one)
So to sum up, it looks like I see at least 3 diffent partitions:
1. From my PC, I see an older one that I can't see from X-plore (I tried Cyanogenmod file explorer too)
2. From my phone, I see the one that has the backup I just created
3. From my phone too, I see a second old partition (different from the one I see from my PC)
So what I would like to know is:
1. How can I transfer the backup to my PC if I can't see the partition that holds it from there?
2. Is it safe to just delete all those folders in both old partitions? I'm sure they're taking space unnecessarily
Any help would be much appreciated!
After flashing any CM/AOSP Rom. They actually create a different folder set up. That's because of the ability of different users...
You need to apply the restore SD card after downgrade.

After that^^^^^^^^^ just make sure you copy everything you want.. Then you can delete all those other folders you don't need.

Hey! So it seems that did it!!! Now I can see ALL the contents in the /sdcard partition (X-plore shows it as /storage/emulated/0)
So my question is (I'm still pretty noob at all this): all the files/folders shown there shouldn't be critical for the OS to work, right? They should all be stuff saved by apps, that if they get deleted the worst thing that will happen is that those apps will lose that info, right? I ask because I can recognize most of them, but not all of them, so I'm not sure, and I would like to remove as much stuff as possible.
One file that makes me doubt specially is /sdcard/clockworkmod/download/download2.clokworkmod.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-touch-6.0.4.3-t0lteatt.img. Is that the actual CWM recovery that I have in my phone? Or just the installation image that can be removed?
Thank you very much for your help!
I ended up deleting everything from the sdcard partition and restoring the stuff that mattered to me, and everything seems fine now. The only weird thing is that when I create a backup with Online Nandroid backup (which gets stored in /sdcard/clockworkmod/backups), I can't see it when connecting my phone to my PC. I can see everything else in the sdcard except the backup. I've tried unplugging and plugin again the phone, rebooting it, rebooting my PC... but nothing. However, if I zip the backup folder with X-plore, leaving the zip file in the same folder as the backup folder, my PC can see it...
Weird thing but oh well!
