I'm trying to flash roms on an Incredible which has a locked bootloader. I tried unrevoked3 to unlock the bootloader but it tells me my firmware is too new.
Currently the phone has
Android 2.3.4 (stock)
Baseband 2.15.10.-7.07
Kernel 2.6.35.13
Build 4.08.605.2
Pri 1.28_002
Is there any way to get this done?
Try this: http://androidforums.com/incredible-all-things-root/427344-how-root-2-3-4-downgrade-get-s-off.html
This is what I used to root an S-OFF my dinc awhile back.
It requires having (with drivers installed) adb, grabbing a copy of an older unrevoked, downgrading, rooting/gaining s-off, then finally flashing a custom recovery (thus being able to install a rom such as cyanogen, my fav (for the moment)), among other things.
Its a process, but trust me, its worth it. As far as I know this is the only way to Root ans S-OFF a dinc w/ the latest firmware. You'll probably want to set aside a day for this. (mostly because you'll be having way to much fun flashing different roms, I know I did).
Just make sure to read the thread, to make sure you know exactly what your doing.

That guide is based off the one I posted by scotty85 over at android fourms. Same thing, execpt scotty gave much more through instructions.

I've read around the forums and seen some somewhat odd solutions to this problem, and wondered if I've simply missed something or it's the only solution to this problem.
Simply, I have a 1.32 perm-rooted phone and I would like to upgrade to the latest update (rom and radio) while keeping my root access. I don't want any of the custom roms, I just want the plain vanilla update plus the latest radio updates because they seem to improve things (being with Vodafone in Australia I need all the improvements I can get!).
Alternatively, what is the custom ROM that is closest to the standard one which meets the above requirements (latest update, latest radio while keeping root access)?
As I said, I already have root access, ClockMod recovery plus S-OFF. Do I need the ENG one to do what I need to do? I've seen the one-click tool for this but haven't bothered because I wasn't sure it was entirely necessary.
Thanks,
Ian
Get ENG S-OFF using my tool, flash Raidroid stockify series ROM via ClockworkMod and flash the radio you want using radio flash guide instructions.

Had looked for a "plain" ROM that didn't have any change to it, this set slipped under my radar. Thanks for the pointers, will do those things when I get a chance.

The root method that you've used is obsolete, suggest to use this one if you want to flash new radio and before flash the eng-boot also ...

I used this thread to update my radio, it's pretty easy to understand.

No, you have permanent root. You're fine. You should be able to flash the radio without issue. What you might want to take note of is if you ever want to run gfree in the future (to get true radio S-OFF, super CID, and SIM unlock). At least one user has reported that gfree didn't work with one of the newer radios and he had to downgrade back to the stock radio in order to run the program. Just an additional hassle (which is why most people recommend running gfree first, prior to messing with the radio).
There was a fear that a new radio may be released at some point that does not allow you to downgrade again (thereby preventing you from ever running gfree), but that would be unusual and so far there hasn't been one.
Hi Fellow xda.
I have flashed the official Gingerbread ota update ruu to my desire.
After that i realized that i couldnt root or go back to Oxygen rom, now that the hboot version is 1.02
Before i had hboot version 0.93 i think.
I have tried the downgrade to 2.1
and root again with unrevoked.
None of these 2 methods work.
Is there any other way to go back to rooted and custom recovery to oxygen rom or hboot 0.93?.
With oxygen and launcherpro my desire feels faster than stock sense
Anyone else have this problem?
There is currently no method of downgrading the hboot or rooting the official GB RUU.
I guess all you can do is wait until somebody figures a way to root and install custom recovery
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Ops good job I never installed this. I read others having this problem also.
Same situation, precipitaded mself, now can't root and all my backups are Titanium backups, have nandroid backups but can't use them....
damn...
isn't it possible to downgrade hboot?
I am also facing this problem. Is there any solution available now?

HTC Desire: Android 2.3.3 official Gingerbread rom.
No solution - check Alpharev/Unrevoked updates - if there will be a solution, it will probably be in the developement section.
Someone said that they used a Froyo RUU to downgrade then they just rooted. But it didn't work for other people but I think its with a shot. Otherwise you'll have to wait.
Swyped...
Hmmmm...I did not know about this...
I did not flash the RUU directly but tried to flash the rooted or modified ones from this forum...and decided to keep InsertCoin 1.0.9
How did the devs root it then? Perhaps, try asking Baadnewz and/or NeoPhyTe for help, since they have released the rooted official update.
I don't think they rooted it as such, but more of "ported" it. I don't know a thing about rom development but go and ask him.

The difference is that when u run the ruu, it will overwrite ur hboot, ur recovery, ur rom, ecc, everything...So u lost root, because the ruu restore everything as stock.
In particular after run the ruu, the new hboot installed doesn't allow to root again and doesn't allow to change hboot at the moment.
Instead, when u flash the rooted rom based on official gb (u already have root and u don't lost it, simply), the zip contain only the rom part and with inside the super user apk (that allow root permission), so flashing it u will continue to have ur recovery, ur hboot, ur root permissions.
Instead when running the ruu, so u lost root, there is no way to install again a custom recovery and there is no way to push the super user apk into the rom (unrevoked / alpharev doesn't work)..At the moment.
From devs side, create a rooted rom is easy, as they extract from the ruu only the rom and make it rooted pushing in the zip that they are going to create the super user apk and some other tweaks to the kernel as well...All this can be done with the dsixda kitchen
I hope everything is clear now

That you did. There are plenty of threads with that information available.
is there a way to root now?
we should wait?
Okay well then i guess im stuck like others :S
i was just thinking if there was a way to get superuser rights by using the terminal or adb.
i did also try the old root method for the desire that came before unrevoked. That didnt work.
Thank goodness...I was tempted to flash the original RUU...but my stomach told me not to do it...I would have been in the same situation if had flashed it too...
I hope there will be an easy solution in the near future for you guys
@andQlimax: Thanks for the information so...so, I hit the thanks button

That's prob as close as you'll get to the update without flashing the RUU.

Have the same problem as others here. Tried both apk and adb with GingerBreak. No luck
...but I'm trying to play around a bit and got a noob idea to use ARUWizard to flash custom rom. I've extracted RUU 2.29 and RUU 2.3.3 and replaced 2.3.3 rom.zip with the one from 2.29. It didn't work of course as newer version has been discovered but I was wondering if it's possible just to root the standard rom.zip and put it back. Is there any chance that it works?
Have anyone rooted htc desire with Gingerbread RUU update ?

HTC Desire (S-ON, HBOOT - 1.02, SLCD)
Hi, I've been a lurker of these forums for a long time, ever since I had a Samsung T939. I've been able to manage things on my own by searching and reading and applying the helpful tips offered but this time I'm facing a wall.
I currently have my HTC Expresso running CyanogenMod 7.0.3-Slide. I tried the instructions for S-off using the resources by AlphaRev and I get that my HBOOT 1.0+ is not supported. One recommendation says to flash back to stock rom and re-root. I was wondering if I could just flash Stock Rom with Root Access found at theunlocker.com: How To: Root the HTC MyTouch Slide (Exploid Method) (Updated 01.26.11) with ROM Manager to go back to the stock rom with root access integrated and then try the s-off procedure again and Flash CM7 again.
To get S-off you need to have 0.52 h-boot, so you need to downgrade unless you had S-off before I think. There's a thread but I'm not sure if it works. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1277266

It doesn't work. I followed the instructions carefully and got the same result as the other person that tried. I guess I won't be able to use custom fonts and splash screens. Why do some Mytouch have different HBOOT then? Grrrr.

Is there a flash file for S-off?
No, there's special Alpharev utility.

You can't. Alpharev is the ONLY way to get S-OFF for the HTC Slide.
I was able to unlock the the bootloader and get CWM installed, and even have CM7 running on my Droid Inc 2.
The question I have is: Do I need to have S-OFF? If so how should I go about gaining S-OFF?

I believe you need to downgrade first. It's a really simple process there's a thread around with a program that does it for you. I would suggest backing up your current setup first as I will run the ruu and put you back at stock

I having such a hard time trying to get my INC 2 to have S-Off.
I have tried everything! I just dont know what I have been doing wrong.
I would like to upgrade my rom to ICS. When i tried to upgrade the rom everything seemed to work until I reboot the phone. The HTC boot screen comes up then nothing just a black screen. I let it sit for about 10min and the phone never comes back on.
So after a little research and reading the posts from above i tried to downgrade the phone but it had problems and I could not get it to accept the tool.
After I ran the tool the first time it did fall and I did cleaned out the temp files and tried agin. But to no avail.
If anyone has any suggestions please dont be shy.
My Phone:
Version: 2.3.7
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.13 CM
Mod Version: CM 7.1.0.1
Security: S-ON
Unlocked boot loader: HTC DEV (I think this is the problem)

for downgrade and s-off
Thanks! I will give it a go.
you'll have to relock bootloader and install your stock rom to be able to downgrade, then you can run revolutionary to get s-off
The phone is going into a boot loop when I do the tacoroot. I think this is because I already have root access.
Since I have root access I tried to continue on with out tacoroot. Everything seemed to be going fine until I tried to flash the Zip. Then I got this error "FAILED (remote: 99 unknown fail)"
I did read that your post about this "FAILED (remote: 43 main version check fail)"
So I'm just wondering what I should do from here?
Do you think that i need to completely revert my phone to stock from CM7?
did you relock the bootloader?
I need to do that?
I got the RUU to work. Took this noob a little to get it.
