[Q] Getting S-Off via flash of stock+root rom - myTouch 3G Slide Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I've been a lurker of these forums for a long time, ever since I had a Samsung T939. I've been able to manage things on my own by searching and reading and applying the helpful tips offered but this time I'm facing a wall.
I currently have my HTC Expresso running CyanogenMod 7.0.3-Slide. I tried the instructions for S-off using the resources by AlphaRev and I get that my HBOOT 1.0+ is not supported. One recommendation says to flash back to stock rom and re-root. I was wondering if I could just flash Stock Rom with Root Access found at theunlocker.com: How To: Root the HTC MyTouch Slide (Exploid Method) (Updated 01.26.11) with ROM Manager to go back to the stock rom with root access integrated and then try the s-off procedure again and Flash CM7 again.

To get S-off you need to have 0.52 h-boot, so you need to downgrade unless you had S-off before I think. There's a thread but I'm not sure if it works. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1277266

It doesn't work. I followed the instructions carefully and got the same result as the other person that tried. I guess I won't be able to use custom fonts and splash screens. Why do some Mytouch have different HBOOT then? Grrrr.

Because Froyo OTA brings that 1.02 hboot

Is there a flash file for S-off?

No, there's special Alpharev utility.

Were can I find a s-off flash file?

You can't. Alpharev is the ONLY way to get S-OFF for the HTC Slide.

Lost S-off

Need to return my leedroid 2.2.2 to stock.
Somehow i have lost eng s-off. Tried to install different radio but it wouldnt allow me, as bootloader says ship s-off. So have been advised that i need to downgrade again, and go through the s-off / root process again - Here
How do i go back to the easy rooted 1.32 stock again. I have an RUU for that version, but its not seeing the phone. Found a workaround - Here - but it only got so far before the phone froze, and the installer said it couldnt find phone.
Thought for a minute i had bricked the phone, so after crapping myself, decided to seek help here on how to return to 1.32!
Look at the rooting tutorials for 1.72.
AFAIK, you need to change the version number for this to work (to allow downgrade).
Do you have ship s-off or you do not?
You can't flash a radio because you don't have eng s-off, therefore no fastboot commands.
Just flash any ruu you want using the pd98img.zip method and all shall be stock. Launching an ruu update from your pc is notoriously unreliable and I would never recommend it.
Here is a guide to the method if you have no idea whet I'm talking about.

Had tried to flash pd98img from my sd card but kept getting some error (cant remember what it was now, will check again later). So thought maybe needed to use the RUU to go back to a stock ROM, but was just guessing at that. Will have another go at PM98IMG when i get home from work.
You have Radio S-OFF, so you do not have to use the downgrade guide. Just flash 1.32.405.6 stock ROM using PD98IMG.zip (get that from the downgrade guide), and then you can use my Radio S-OFF tool to go S-ON. You can also check the S-ON instructions in my tool thread.

Thanks. I tried last night to do this (though i was going to go the full downgrade route) but couldnt get it to install. But i was selecting the zip from sd card, which i think is wrong? (hboot will pick the zip up itself?)
Can you briefly explain to me what S-ON is? Im a total noob here, and always thought we were looking S-OFF to flash Kernels, Radios etc.
I owe you a thanks. Already handed out 5 today and cant give any more!

EDIT: Think i have it sorted.

[Q] S-OFF Problem

Hello,
I've look through many threads and also googled the problem.
So perhaps, someone can help me.
I've rooted my desire with Unrevoked3. I got SU right on my desire.
But I can not get S-OFF.
In the bootloader I see S-ON.
So i can't flash an new HBOOT image on my phone.
So what's wrong?
Can someone help?
Greetings
First have a read on http://alpharev.nl
Here is the video tutorial http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1016084 (step four)
Just remember when S-OFF'ing you need a stock rooted froyo ROM, no 'data2ext' ROM's or it wont work.
What do you try to get s-off? With unrevoked you cannot set your phone to s-off, you have to use alpharev:
http://alpharev.nl
Ahh...
So, i have to use a rooted stock ROM like the one from MoDaCo.
And then I ccan flash the hboot image.
Is that right?
I am new as well. But I think the safest way would be to flash your RUU and start from scratch. Here is a video showing you how to flash your RUU. After you have flashed the RUU, read this guide. Follow everything step by step without skipping.
Dont forget to:
- Tick "Install unknown sources"
- USB debugging on
I followed that guide above and rooted my HTC desire, S-OFFed it, flashed the ROM perfectly. I got no issues at all. And it was easy to accomplish.

No, you have to set your phone s-off first. Instructions are given on alpharevs page. You can also follow instructions in the linked video.
After your phone s-off, you can flash a different hboot.
But remember, it's very easy to brick your phone with flashing a hboot if you do not care/know what you are doing!!
Hey guys, I did it..
Thanks for help.
For everyone with same starting problems here a short description.
1. Make a goldcard with the GoldCardToll
2. Make a downgrad with the downgrad23 tools
3. Unroot with unrevoked3
4. S-OFF with the iso from AlphaRev
5. Install the hboot you want.
That's it..

I am currently using MIUI - D2EXT and successfully S-OFF'ed my desire this morning!
it crashed on me when i said 'y' to download the recovery - wanted to see if it would pull down anything newer than 2.5.0.7
flash your own recovery and skip that part,
hboot before flash needs to be 0.93.0001

well yea I did anyway - but I wanted to know what version it pulled down
So, this is an "easy" way to S-OFF my Desire? (Yes, I'm a noob and afraid of bricking my phone since I, you know, need it to do phone stuff )
My device is rooted, running a custom recovery and MIUI, but it isn't S-OFF'd yet.
I've read that Android Flasher needs S-OFF so the bootscreen etc can be modified, but can I use Android Flasher to flash a custom recovery with an S-ON device?
Unrevoked wouldn't flash the 4EXTRecovery img I just want to make sure I can use Android Flasher instead without going through the S-OFF procedure before.
Thanks, haven't got round to S-off yet as the previous methods seemed somewhat daunting.

Agree with above quote.
Easy to use, once s-off just use any recovery. I used 4Ext 2.1.3. Just put the Pblahblahblah.img on your sd card and install through fastboot.

Best is to flash the recovery before s-off with revolutionary so you can skip that part.
as for some the recovery doesn't work in revolutionary
done in a couple of seconds.
and you don't need to use vmware or a bootable cd or usb.
I've used it. Dead easy, and the phone remained S-OFF after I PB99IMG'd it to the official GB build.
I had modified the .zip a little though, removed radio and recovery (already had newer radio and left CWM so I could root easily).
re
can you upload the moddified pb99 file? i cant modify it my self it doesnt let delete files from the archive. if i decompress and comppress it again it doesnt work
Can I use this to s-off with the official GB update or is that hboot too new?

Sure: http://www.mediafire.com/file/m16ypyymn5x1spn/PB99IMG.zip
Contains no radio or recovery. Does contain HBOOT, but Revolutionary doesn't get overwritten by it.
I would like to S-OFF my Desire and want to know if either Revolutionary or Alpharev flash their own recovery in addition to doing S-OFF?
I already rooted my Desire a couple months ago with unrevoked3 and this put on Clockworkmod (unsure what version) in addition as well, but I'm happy with how it works and don't need it replaced I guess.
Which one should I use? Do I get a choice to do S-OFF only and skip replacing the recovery?

I had 2.3.3 oficial update. I used revolutionary to s-off (with the oficial update i had 1.02.0001 hboot and after s-off i had 6.93.0002 hboot). After s-off i ran the shipped RUU and i am still s-off and 6.93.0002 hboot.
Is there a way to get back to 0.93.0001?
to get S-ON...because he is still S-off

[Q] Upgrading HBOOT from 0.75, AlphaRev failed?

I recently bought a Desire (A8183) and it came with HBOOT 0.75.0000 and I am trying to get S-OFF on it. I tried using AlphaRev and it came up with an error in step 3. How do I overcome this?
The phone still works fine.

1st: Wrong topic, you should post it in Q&A.
2nd: Have you flashed any custom ROM??? If so, thats why you cannot S-OFF it, try any near-to-stock, froyo rooted rom and then try again, this will do the trick
Cheers

Oops, wrong subforum, didn't realise.
Yes I'm running a custom ROM I'll try a Froyo-based ROM and see if that helps.
It's a shame that Revolutionary doesn't support this version of HBOOT, is there any way of 'tricking' Revolutionary to S-OFF the 0.75 HBOOT?

You can always update bootloader... if you have a goldcard then put the attached file in the root of your sd-card, and then boot into bootloader and wait for it do do it's thing.. when it prompts you select yes. This will update your bootloader to version 0.93.1002
You shouldn't lose any data, but do make a backup of the ROM in recovery in case you get a bootloop.
Then run Revolutionary.

I downloaded the file and put it on the root sdcard... Bootloader seemed to just skip over the file though.
Do I need to change the text file in the zip to my CID or anything else? It doesn't like it
you need a goldcard, so it ignores the CID.. or actually.. what network are you on?
EDIT: Just noticed lol
Wait I'm downloading a Telstra RUU and I'll give you a new PB99IMG
try this. If not, then you can always use the RUU to do a full update, and then S-OFF and flash a custom ROM.
Thanks I'll give it a try.
I have four microSD cards at home and I've tried gold carding all of them... I don't know how successful I was cos I couldn't do what I wanted on the Desire HD

try the goldcard tutorial I posted.
Okay, well I'm gonna get to sleep now but I'll give you some advice before you go.
If you can't update the bootloader with that, I'd suggest backing up your ROM (if you havent done so already), flashing the RUU to bring it up to the latest bootloader version, and then using revolutionary.
Once you've S-OFF'd with revo. Use android flasher to flash recovery (Note: your backup will not work if you do not flash the same version of recovery) and then do a full wipe and flash a ROM of your choice.
Would you happen to know where I can get the original Telstra RUU from? I think that might be my best bet.
Thanks for your help!

Thanks - this looks like it worked now HBOOT 0.93.0001, running revolutionary now.
Is there any benefit in upgrading HBOOT at all? What does 1.02.0001 offer?
Hboot 1.xxxx is the stock hboot for gingerbread. So it offers you nothing. By flashing a hboot like cm7 (most roms fit in this hboot), you get much more space for installing apps, because its /data partition is much bigger.

[Q] How can I update my hboot for S-OFF?

I want to update my HTC Desire (AMOLED) with the current hboot of 0.75.
For revolutionary I need a hboot of 0.93. So, what's the best way to do it? I can't find a good tutorial. Can I simply download the hboot image from anywhere and flash it via CWM 2.x?
Is the current ROM safe or have I to reinstall it?
Thanks!

Use alpharev and follow the instructions there.
It is recommended that you return to rooted stock ROM before you S-OFF but it is not essential (I didn't).

Most roms wont work. Its certainly safest and best practice.

Today I installed a prerooted stock froyo rom, but Alpharev won't work. Here's the error.
Is there another simple way to update the hboot to 0.93 so I can use revolutionary?
I believe you can flash the official Gingerbread rom found on HTCdev site. This will upgrade your rom to Gingerbread as well as your hboot. Then use revolutionary to s-off.

I'm still paranoid about that piece of crap. Please don't, just use a stock 2.2 RUU, anyone you want if you have a goldcard (preferably 2.2)
you can try alpharev
