just so you know when I did a barebone rom for UnNamed I went in and got rid of extra languages extra ringtone Kies and fonts. Now thats when brings it down to barebone in my opinion. You need to find one of the old school original barebone roms that were put out and see what has been removed and duplicate it on the EL29 rom of your choice. I cut out about 75 -100 megs

This is probably the best rom based on the stock build already optimized, tweaked and ready to go. Download 3 things from the OP on that thread, the 'format all', the rom and the bare rom converter and you should be good to go.
If you get tired of the stock look, you can find plenty of themes around or use a third party app like Go Launcher that has plenty of downloadable themes.
There are plenty of pre-themed roms available out there based on stock as well.

Naerok rom thats it I just remembered he was the base I used for my removal party... Its all up to you OP when I decided to go barebone I wanted everything removed. Most of the scripts I see just remove system/app stuff. Also there are threads that say whats safe to remove in our phones if you are worried but once again I believe they are all system/app files

[q] ics barebones rom?

I used to have an evo 4g . it was my only successfull root and i used this ROM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1412005
it was GREAT!
does anyone have something similar for my epic 4g touch? all i want is a mostly stock barebones rom minus bloatware. i am certainly no expert on roms and want one i can rely on just to work! i dont use wireless hotspot but i need everything else to work.
help!
Thanx
For TouchWiz there is Calkulins E4GT 2 which comes with a barebones converter that you can flash.
Here is the link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1527041
That includes the ROM and the barebones converter.
Otherwise there are the usual AOSP ROMs, AOKP, CM9, Miui.
you can make any rom barebone if you like. Like mentioned above there is a converter zip now and also you simply can remove files in the zip prior to flashing. For AOSP there is a slim and trim rom in development. I think you should just take your time and go through development and see whats out there.
Ive always had better luck flashing something close to stock and pulling stuff out myself. Chances are that you use your phone different than the rom dev and you might want or need something they don't. There are several variations of fe22 you can try

apoligize for whats probably a dumb question but can i remove everything, like google wallet and crap like that?
Cauklin's e4gt 2 v 1.6 works really well and after using rom convertor is stripped down to a bare rom very stable at least that has been my experience with it.

Understanding roms after the ics update

OK.. So every phone i have ever owned i have rooted, Kernels, anything and everything.
But here is my problem.. I have recently updated (manually) to the new ICS on my epic 4g touch.
I have tried all the roms pre this release and never had 100% luck with any so normally always ran stock os plus root.
I want to know if A) there are new roms post this recent update, B) if i root to another pre-existing rom is it going to mess it all up again.
Basically i want like CM10 out or something. Something made specifically for how the phone is now...
Any suggestions?? Im tired of stock. I want to customize!!! :crying:
Depends how custom you want to go. If you want to flash custom theme and modz, you must go with a deodexd ROM.
But if you want AOSP-ish look, agat has a very good stable and themed FF18 ROM he calls tFF18. It has a simple look, much different than stock tho, but it's built with a custom kernel and based off Samsung, not CM9 or 10
not sure if that helps.

It does help!. So if i get this right... ANY deodexed rom or another option is tFF18. And these are both based off our current rooms so that EVERYTHING WORKS

Anything t look into specific??? As far as AOSP roms go, ive tried them in the past, but are you saying their newer version ones are friendly to the latest update?

Yes everything works. tFF18 is odex, so you can't change much of the ROM but it works incredibly smooth and stable. Also, practically all DEODEX'd ROMs have the hacked sprint hot spot for tethering. Stock and odex roms require the Wifi Tether app which is easily found by googling "wifi tether apk"

Aosp is nice and light weight, makes it super snappy, but you lose a couple convenient features from samsungs touch wiz UI.. My main gripe with going aosp/aokp is that my camera doesn't perform as well, where IMO Samsung did a nice job with the software.

[Q] Rom with bloat removed?

I have recently gotten the Samsung s3 for At&t (i747 i believe) and all I am looking for is a Rom that is 4.1 or 4.2 with the stock att/samsung bloatware removed and maybe some speed/battery tweaks. Ive tried the CM rom but i dont want all that, just the simple stock look. Ive loked around but my head is spinning from all the different ROM choice. Thanks for any help.
Try slimbean, it's nice looking fast and overall pretty good

Is there like an AOI thread for S3 custom roms? This just seems to be all over the place compared to like the Kindle Fire where I found several indepth AOI threads.
As for stock roms they have Jedi Invasion, Serenity, and i think Ultimatum. I think most of them don't really have any bugs but i would read up on them before flashing anyone of them
If you're happy with stock except for the bloat, you could just install Titanium Backup and use it to freeze the bloat apps that you want to get rid of; that way, you don't have to worry about anyone's definition of bloat but your own.
Do a search in the GSIII Android Development forum for "CSROM" (CS = Clean Slate). It has almost all Samsung stuff removed so it's very lightweight and incredibly stable. I've tried a bunch and I think I'll be sticking with this one for a while.
Try LoserRom
My personal favorite is LoserRom. It is the closest thing I have tried to stock, also it is based on the official AT&T 4.1.1 Jelly Bean update. You can find it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2033093
Jedi Rom is good but it's a T-Mobile port and I dislike the 5x5 TwLauncher, although I believe the dev provides a separate flashable 4x4 TwLauncher if I am not mistaken.
Also, you may try BlackJelly, another super close to Stock official AT&T 4.1.1 Jelly Bean update. I believe this one also has the 5x5 launcher, and this one is heavily themed and looks pretty cool: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1883845

Triune II: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1796502 (I think it's like a stock rom)
Jellybam: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2053699 (it has a touch wiz launcher but thats about it)
Ariel: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1846701 (Kind of old, ICS based)
Diet ICS: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1732195 (Also old)
As with anything i would suggest reading up on them before flashing.

which rom do you keep going back to?

I would have to say, the stock Koodo 4.0.4 ROM. It's the only ROM that I'm able to flash on my phone through Odin that is completely clean of anything custom.
Helps when trying to troubleshoot installing custom ROMs with pretty much a clean slate on the phone. Cheers!
Hehe nice to meet a fellow O1 owner. I came from the Optimus One P500.
Oh, this phone can run on Skyrocket ROMs. Just flash a rotation fix and bam.
On topic, I think I prefer the CM10 nightlies as I keep going back to them over and over. However, I'm starting to use the Touchwiz 4.1.2 UCLL3 leak for the skyrocket. And also the stock Koodo ROM mentioned above was alwaysy previous choice. I still want to go back to it because its clean, no bloat at all.
Enjoy your stay!

what is d2tmo? I thought that is for galaxy SIII ? as I am reading in liquidsmooth dev thread
I like vanilla aosp experience but I will not disregard stock samsung touchwiz rom either
I consider stock samsung rom as vanilla experience in it's own world
now that you mention 4.1.2 leak from skyrocket I may try that if it stable.
on second thought maybe I stay with koodo rom
I still got a lot to read in this whole new phone...

You are correct about 'd2tmo' being a GS3 ROM. Whatever you do, DO NOT FLASH IT! There are already enough posts on here with a person saying they 'bricked' their phone.
If you are still planning to flash a custom ROM, my recommendation would be trying one of the All-Star Devs ROMs. There are too many ROMs to link, but if you search up for threads created by Tmogalaxys2 or android88 in the 'Development Section' you will find any of the Team's ROMs.
Hitting the image on the right of my signature will also lead you to one of the ROMs. Good luck!

so the different between liquidsmooth and liquidsmooth all star is:

-Many build.prop tweaks for better performance
-Pimp my ROM tweaks
-Seeder Script
-Velocity Tweaks
-AC!D Audio
-Xloud
-Bravia Engine
-Nibbles Kernel
-A lot more!
is it possible to mount internal SD card in CWM? if so which version of CWM?

Correct, the All-Star version is basically the same as the official Liquid Smooth ROM with extra features. If you are asking your question in regards to flashing the ROM through internal memory, yes, it is possible. Just place the ROM files on the root of your phone.
Also, rather than using CWM recover it is recommended to install and use TWRP 2.3.3.0 on your phone as it is a more up to date recovery system.

If I understand you correctly, you want access to settings through the 'notification bar'? Almost all custom ROMs now should have an option to add "Power Widgets" in the notification for quick access to certain settings if that's what you're looking for.

@corwest: Oops! Didn't mean to hit "thanks", so have a free one on me!
To the OP, I keep going back to PACman rom. In my opinion it is the best of cm10, AOKP and ParanoidAndroid, though going through the settings can be a little confusing to a newbie since AOKP's Rom Control and CM10 seem to redouble some of each others settings including toggles in the notification drawer (you will notice two sets of toggles active when you first boot the rom). That's the only problem I have with it. (Isn't it great when you can complain about having too many options?)
Kooodo stock rom that I have customized a tiny bit (deodexed with a couple simple mods). Its fast, stable, and has great battery

Best kernel+ROM combo for my AT&T Galaxy S3

Recently i got the AT&T SAMSUNG GALAXY S3 I747 STOCK JELLY BEAN ON 4.1.1 from GALASXY S2 SKYROCKET (at&t) also but i need the best combo (kernel+ROM) but its hard to find one
here is what am looking for:-
- good, stable DATA/MOBILE NETWORK CONNECTION (MUST HAVE) IMPORTANT
- bloatware free
- fast/overclocking
- easy/not too complex that will fup my phone
- anything that i have not mentioned is relevant too
- other great features like Bravia engine, goo manager, extra features that make it more awsome
- cyanogenmod stable qualities (bug free) sleek, smooth, fast UI and transitions
any kind of idea is valid, open to every suggestion
If you are looking for a touchwiz ROM, go try S3Rx. If you are looking for a pure android based ROM, go for Task's AOKP. I think those are some of if not the best Roms of their kind.

That's for you to experiment and decide not everyone has the same experience on a rom.
Just make a backup of your current setup and start flashing away.
Trial and error.
I may be new here but I know enough, To tell you no one is going to answer your question. A Rom that works for one person is not necessarily the same Rom that will work for another. Flashing Rom's is about hopefully stability, if your lucky speed and battery life, but most importantly about customization. I just started flashing Roms and am still looking for the one I want. I'm sure as soon as I find it a new release will come out and I will get to start over again. As for Kernels I am not comfortable enough to delve into that yet...Good luck...

Best S3, non touchwiz ROM I have found is SlimBean. Not as flashy as some but rock solid/stable with the best battery life I have found so far. Like CM, it is backed by team of devs versus some roms that just have chefs that mix/match/blend features together.
i have been on that PATH as in trying different ROMS but once i tried several i completely fup my DATA/mobile network, i would text and call but my internet (not to be confused with WIFI) stopped working and yu know as a tech savvy guy yu gotta try everything little trick yu know to fix it but there was nothing
forced to use wifi until the day i bought the AT&T S3 and i have my data internet connection working again
i need a ROM that doesnt leave me with no DATA CONNECTION
restoring from nandroid backups helps and sometimes it might not work , other than CM which other ROMS THAT CAN KEEP UP WITH MY DATA CONNECTION

Glad to here it. I have not been brave enough to get into kernel flashing yet. Can you tell me was it a simple flash? How do you revert back to a stock kernel? I here there is a lot of tweaking to do with some kernels? Was Ziggy's pre-set?

You just flash it the same way you do with a ROM. Remember you wipe cache and dalvik cache before flashing the kernel and if you dirty flash roms, you have to reflash the kernel each time because the stock kernel overwrites it. You revert back to stock kernel by flashing the ROM again or finding the kernel zip and flashing it separately. You can undervolt and overclock with a different kernel that allows it.
