[Q] Using Nokia lumia 900 in Europe - Nokia Lumia 900

Hi guys,
I'm wondering if I buy Nokia Lumia 900 from AT&T off-contract does it work on European carriers? I know what 4g network frequencies are different but what about 3G? Will I still be able get updates in Europe?

Your first hurdle is going to be getting AT&T to sim unlock it for you.....
For the record when I called to try to get the unlock code I told them I wanted to use my phone in Europe and they didnt red flag anything.
That is of course not definitive proof but they do call it a "World Phone" http://www.wireless.att.com/cell-ph...900+-+White&q_sku=sku6000234#fbid=1lM0QIuhHn3

But when you called AT&T, they gave you unlock code? I found on forums that sometimes they refuse to provide unlock code.

No, that is what I am saying. The vast majority are NOT getting an unlock code. I don't really need one I was just testing it out as an enterprise customer to see what they would say. I am under contract and bought a subsidized phone. The only people that I have read that said they got one bought it outright for cash. That is like 2 or 3 out of untold numbers that have NOT gotten a code who bought it without contract.

Ok. Let's say I managed to get code from at&t. What about wp updates? Does phone still get updates even if I'll be using it in Europe?

Is there a way to unlock the LG Incite??

Hi,
I need to unlock an LG Incite (CT810) phone sim locked to at&t.
any body??
a code from at&t is needed to unlock your phone, the easiest way to do this is to call customer support on the terms of "international travel and prepaid sim cards"

Thanks, is there a certain strategy to do so.
does this also mean that i can turn my contract into a prepaid account using this approach, I'm indeed going to travel for a long period (maybe 6 months)..??
thanks
If you poke around on eBay you can get a code in a couple hours for the price of around $5. I guess it depends on what your time is worth. I decided to give up a few bucks rather than waste a lot of time on the phone with AT&T, or searching the internet. The ct810 Incite is phone specific also when unlocking. This means there is not one code to unlock all Incites.
I buy the phone from Amazon, and i don't want to activate the line (i still didn't) ... will that cause any problems ??
if yes, can i activate the phone, then due to traveling abroad i convert the contract to prepaid account??
I once bought a prepaid package and i never activated the line... and the telephone still works till now without problems.. i'm not sure if this is the case with contract phones too ..
will the universal sim unlocker (here in the forum) work on the incite?
As here we dedicate only to HTC devices you won't get too much attention.
better to try here:

Good luck,

FYI: Telus Touch Pro 2 sim unlocked!

Hi y'all - just want to let Telus customers know that I have successfully unlocked my TP2 for 3rd party sims. In case it was one of those "should be possible, but I'd like to wait to buy until I know..." questions for some of you.
You may have seen the youtube vid, but I can confirm its true.
Also - Telus would NOT give out the sim unlock code for free. They got all squirrelly and weird and said they DO NOT support this, and they dont even have the unlock code even if they wanted to give it. They also said that they're locked at the factory which I argued is completely false as before you activate the phone, it says "SIM unlocked", and locks immediately afterwards.
Strangely, the first guy I spoke to was understanding, pleasant and said that I had to contact HTC, that they didn't actually have the code but I could definitely get it from HTC, and that he used to work for HTC in Canada before the dollar rose and they had to move elsewhere. Called HTC and they were confused and said "no, you have to get it from your telco, or a 3rd party".
That's what I thought. Canadian cell companies are waaaay to tight-fisted to give an inch on their overpriced bs.
$35 with popular canadian cell unlocking site - took 2.5 days.
So what did you have to do exactly? I'd love to have the Telus version, but being in Mex I was dubious about the simlock. And you can do it all online, right?
yes what did you do, or give us a link, plz, People gonna be need this as I am.
wouldnt a custom ROM accomplish the same thing?
Perhaps if you bought it without activating it, you could put on a custom ROM and then keep the SIM unlocked. I think, however, that they will be unlikely to be inclined to sell the TP2 without attaching it to Telus first. Once its locked by Telus, I think its locked in a part of memory that flashing won't overwrite. I could be very wrong - someone please enlighten if they know better... When you bought your Fuze and then flashed a cust rom, did it unlock the phone?? I've always been a CDMA customer in NA, with the occasional GSM blackberry overseas - but I bought them unlocked too.
www.mobileincanada.com is where I got my code. They told me that the Touch Pro 2 takes much more time to create code than other phones, hence the almost 3 day wait.
Tested: prior to unlocking a soft reset after sim install would elicit "SIM detected, not a Telus SIM - phone switching to CDMA only" or something like that.
Afterwards, SIM detected, switching to Global. I double checked that it could read my Optus SIM and get phone numbers off of it. It didn't complain at all and even tried to connect to Rogers - couldn't, of course, with a deactivated Optus SIM...
Update
Found an unused Rogers SIM kicking around... Will detect the network manually, but will not register on it. HTC did say that they locked out the NA GSM service providers as a service to the NA CDMA companies. Perhaps a flashed ROM would fix this... obviously the radio bands are compatible or it wouldnt detect it at all, no?
Huh, if it's not working then it really isn't unlocked...
Wonder if a Mexican sim would work (technically it's part of North America though culturally and economically speaking it isn't).
I don't understand why they'd lock out all North American gsm providers. Wouldn't the gsm providers of the same country be enough? After all, who'd want to be roaming all the time in Canada with a US provider's sim, it'd be much more expensive than any local plan.
Well, the SIM I tried has never been activated. It doesn't even work in my ROgers BB, it turns out. So I need to try an activated one.
Anyway, I do remember reading that HTC's compromise to the NA CDMA carriers was that they would disable using NA GSM companies in order that you would have to use your provider's CDMA roaming services throughout NA, even on an unlocked phone. Will do my best to test.
My main concern was getting it to worked on a 3rd party sim in Oz and Europe.
It is definitely "unlocked" however. The Settings/Security screen says "This phone is SIM unlocked", and now it will read any sim card I install. Before unlocking it wouldnt let you go near a non-telus SIM.
I ordered my unlock code through the same site, too. But they refund my money the next day saying my IMEI isn't in their database, thus unable to provide an unlock code for my phone.
this is one of those "are you sure its plugged in" questions so I apologise, but did you make triple sure you gave them the right IMEI code? Sometimes there are more than 15 digits, although I've been told its only the first 15 that matter...
Ok. I'd love to have the Telus version, what with the added bands, the cdma mode, the 3.5mm jack, and case very faithful to the original, and even the nostalgia factor (I remember when Telus was only for home phones) But I am not going to risk looking for an importer, buying it and all that if there's a chance that I would be unable to get the unlock codes. That'd be TRULY frustrating and a waste of money.
well, there are more than 15 digits on the back of the phone behind the battery, while there are 17 digits in Device Information. And since they only asks for first 15 digits, I just gave them that. Asked them to double check, still came back with IMEI not found. I'm pretty frustrated now...because I paid the the full price for the phone as I'm not qualified for upgrade yet as I got the Diamond for free last Sept. And since I got it from Telus store and there's no return, I feel pretty much got rip-off as I was in hope of using it in HK, where I travel to every year.

I believe that these units are SIM-Unlocked for INTERNATIONAL use, like in HK -- so you shouldn't have a problem (according to what's been posted here).

I purchased an unlock code from the site recommended by chopsxxx, but got a refund after 24 hours, saying they could not generate, after googling for sometime, purchase and unlock code from imeiunlock.info did receive the code its 8 digits in length. I try to enter the code after pressing ##778# but its only giving an option to key in 6 digits, can anyone help me with this?
This is for HTC Touch Pro 2 HTC TP2 from Sprint USA, its both CDMA and GSM version

Hi Pistol - I just used this site:

For Rogers Nokia Lumia 900 unlock code was $8.79 !
Now lest's hope they can actually send a code in decent time. I have used them before for other phones and they were quite quick.

Wow.... unlock code received ! 35 minutes ! Punching it in now. Seems to have unlocked the phone, but I don't get a signal.
Could it be my Mobilicity SIM is not compatible ? Or maybe something else? Thoughts.... ideas ?

Well as far as I know the Lumia 900 is not compatible on Mobilicity/Wind as they operate on different bands than Telus/Rogers/Bell/ATT. That's my first guess. Unless it's quad band like the Lumia 710 from Rogers but I haven't heard of that.
But thanks for the website referral!
funny, it won't let me buy an unlock code from that website. Doesn't give me the option to fill out a payment form
Cellphoneunlock.net
First time using Cellphoneunlock.net
Ordered my code on April 9th (Launch day, yesterday, after I bought the phone) at around 3 P.M.
Waited a day and a couple hours before I called them to see whats up.
I called and they said I should get it in about 5 business days.
So now it's a waiting game. It seriously sucks having to look at this phone and not being able to use it.
P.S. I called At&t before using Cellphoneunlock.net to take a shot at getting a free code. They were willing to help me. Took my IMEI number and all, then put me on hold. Came back saying exactly this: "At&t is in a contract with Windows Phone which prevents us from unlocking their devices. Ever."
Try it. Maybe your carrier will go through with it. You never know. You'll have to wait until you actually have the phone though.
I called ATT today and they said that they don't have the unlock codes for the phone yet (which is probably bs)

It is complete B.S.
They just don't want new flagship phones being used on other networks.
Hmm..
I had similar issues unlocking my Titan as I got it right or just days before release. It took me a few days to get the unlock code as well. I recall the unlocking website saying the codes weren't available yet. I called ATT who said they couldn't help me. Then about 4 days later the unlocked emailed me saying he had new codes and wanted to try again and we unlocked it.
This may be a situation where we need to wait about a week for the codes to be released.

Yes... it was looking promising as the bands on the Rogers Lumia 900 are the same as the Rogers Lumia 710. In fact the Lumia 900 actually has 900 listed under WCDMA/HSPA bands. Unless the label is wrong? See pic of the Lumia 900 I just bought from Rogers.....

You need to make sure that like the Lumia 710 it supports 850/900/1700/1900/2100MHz. The 1700MHz specifically for Wind/Mobilicity. Rule of thumb is usually anything on T-Mobile works with Wind/Mobilicity, ATT is everything else.
EDIT: Just saw attached pic, didn't work for me when trying to view till now. Interesting.. Not sure in this case. Only thoughts are being LTE perhaps you require a different sum. Telus requires a newer sim than my existing one in my Titan to work on LTE. Otherwise I'm stumped.

Now that you mentioned it, when I called the Cellphoneunlock.net, the guy that I spoke to said that the Lumia's take quite some time to generate codes for. I just realized that the phone is not even 3 days old yet. So how has he unlocked it before?
I have a strong feeling I will be receiving a refund.

Yeah it's very possible.. I had a few refunds before I got my Titan code. I also had trouble unlocking a friends Lumia 710. Got a refund for no return code and I emailed asking why and he said there's no code and there never will be for the phone. But before I had my friend return their phone I tried a different unlocked site and got the code within an hour.

For my Titan I believe it was mobileincanada.
Sadly I couldn't find the receipt for the other site so I can't recall that one. What I do recall was that it allowed you to input your IMEI # before submitting and it confirmed if they actually had the code first so you're not wasting time or money to get a refund with no code.

Nissan350, please keep us posted on the unlock code.
As for trueblog's issue.. Not sure. I know on Wind they would text me everytime I had a vmail. That was an exclusive yet annoying feature with Wind. On Telus I don't get those texts.

I found someone on ebay selling unlocked lumia 900; (i cant post url here but you can easily find it by searching keywords lumia 900 cyan unlocked) I sent the seller a msg and asked him if the device in a lumia 900 at&t device and also asked about the method used for unlocking? he replied back saying that it's actually an at&t lumia 900 and he did a developer unlock? I replied back asking for details; I'll post again when I get it... but if this is true it gives hope that the lumia 900 can be unlocked...

remotecellunlock.com Lumia 900 unlock?

Hey,
Just wondering if anyone on Rogers has tried to get a cell unlock for the Lumia 900 from remotecellunlock.com?
Basically I placed an order for a code on April 23 (gave them my details like IMEI, Model Lumia 900, and Carrier etc), and I got an email from them later that day saying they were unable to generate a code for me and they would reimburse me. Well I tried to shoot them a response both in the email and in the contact form on their site saying that people on Rogers with the Lumia 900 have been able to get an unlock code from them, but till now I have had ZERO response. The $8.99 has already been charged from my credit card via Dalpay and they have yet to reimburse like they said.
Anyone know whats going on? Thinking about doing a chargeback, but I thought I would check here to see if anyone else has had any problems with them.
Thanks

Took 1 hour or so to get the code. Worked flawlessly.

That's really strange. I got an unlock code from them in about 4 hours on April 19 for a Rogers Lumia 900. The code worked perfect and I have been using it on Bell since then.
Did you check your junk spam folder?
Yeah I checked my spam folders.
This was actually the email I got from them a few hours after I ordered:
"Dear Customer,
Sorry I have been unable to generate the correct unlock code for your mobile. There are so many mobile out there sometimes the firmware on certain versions mean I cant generate the code.
I have sent your details over the accounts team who will send you a refund. Although normally quicker please allow up to 7 days for the refund to get back into your account.
Once again I apologise for not being able to get the correct code for your mobile. Your only option may be your network operator or a local shop who can unlock via a cable.
Best Regards,
remotecellunlock.com"
I sent them a reply after asking if there was some sort of mistake because others have been able to get a code, but since that message I've gotten no response whatsoever from them. Further emails and inquiries made to their contact form have also not yielded any response. So I think I'll wait until tomorrow then do a charge-back...
Double check the IMEI you gave them.
Type *#06# and make sure all 15 digits match.
lumia 900 at&t Unlock
Hi,
I bought the nokia lumia 900 off contract phone from at&t, i spoke to the customer service and they are telling me the unlock codes for the phone will not be released till october 8th. Is there anybdy who has been able to unlock their at&t lumia 900? if so can you please tell me how you did it? i dont wanna sit with a paper weight for 6 months.
Are you in Canada? Bought from At&t, do they have AT&T where you are?
I am currently in Saudi Arabia. I bought the phone online from at&t USA. Do you think the phone can be unlocked? I bought it because it was off contract and now I am left wondering if it was a wrong choice to make.

Yep you gotta run AT&T .. I read in another thread a Canadian was able to call and get an unlock code, but the vast majority.. no luck

I was very persistent with AT&T about them providing an unlock code, basically I didn't take no for an answer and didn't accept their October and December dates. Good luck.
Most likely the reason that they couldn't give you an unlock code is due to the IMEI you gave them. Not that you made a mistake, but that their 'unlocker' is probably set for only certain codes.
As others have replied, it's probable that they cannot unlock IMEI's that were assigned to AT&T.

ATT typically wait at least 6mo before releasing an unlock code; it can sometimes be like pulling teeth to get the code from them, even then. That doesn't mean they don't have a code now. You might be able to sweet-talk a pliable rep into helping you, in your special circumstances. Good luck.

General question, unlocking an AT&T S3 with codes

Hello-
I'm looking to purchase an S3 soon, and I have never owned a GSM phone before. What's the deal with these unlock codes? I understand what they are and how they're entered, but how exactly are they generated when you buy them from a guy on eBay for example? Where are they getting the codes from? Is there some sort of risk by buying a locked AT&T or T-Mobile phone and paying someone for an unlock code?
Thanks.

If you buy a GSM phone that is subsidized by a carrier, it will be mostl likely "locked" to that particular carrier. Unlock codes are generated based on your phone's unique IMEI number. Actually some carriers will give you an unlock code provided your account is in good standing. T-Mobile does that. I am with AT&T, and I have never had any issues getting unlock codes from them before my trips overseas. Your mileage however may vary. As far as getting an unlock codes from a third part company, not sure, I belive there is some risk with revealing your phone's IMEI number because of "phone cloning", but that's more up CDMA valley, not GSM. Hopefully you're not banned from Google. Do some research.
