Just a question regarding upgrading from a one ROM to another ROM, can we like preserve the applications that we had install in our phone so that we don't have to reinstall them again? Or we have to reinstall everything? What about paid applications does market automatically knows that you've purchase the app already? Thanks...

You can use an app called Titanium Backup to save copies of your applications and their settings. Then restore them back again on the new ROM. Usually the apps restore automatically anyway once you enter your google account details onto the phone, it will download all the apps you had installed previously. If you do it this way all your settings will be lost though.
And yes, market will remeber what apps you purchased.
Thanks for the quick response.. Much appreciated...

Ive been having issues installing apps and updates from both the android market and recently amazon market. I factory reset my phone and formatted the SD card and reinstalled all my apps and the SPRINT LOVERS ROM. its been working fine. TODAY it started again.. some apps I can not update and new apps I can not install. I either get a DOWNLOAD FAILED right away OR it downloads and looks like it is installing but I get PACKAGE FILE IS INVALID. I have googled for a solution and came up with http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=910956 BUT that didnt solve my issue.
What is causing this and how can I resolve? some apps DO update but tonight NEW apps dont install AND apps wont update ... please help...
Update: I think I figured the problem.. According to that OTHER thread I posted, it has to do with TOO MANY APPS on the phone and you run out of space in the CACHE FOLDER.. anyway, I UNINSTALLED 4 apps I really dont use and WALLA!!! the apps that would not update now update fine!!
why does this happen and how does one resolve? is there a limit to how many apps you can have? Im on sprint lovers ROM and with the apps it comes with and the apps I installed, it says 315 using SYSTEM APP REMOVER
If you have that many apps and want to keep all of them you need to consider Dark Tremor's a2sd. Also, you should clear your cache. I'm on the mobile app so if you want links or instruction, pm me our I'll try and get back to this post later.

If you want to use DTa2sd it is a relatively simple process to modify the boot image for Sprint Lover's and start using DTa2sd. The howto is here, post #4.

The reason this happens is that custom roms and kernels move your dalvik-cahce to the /cache mount. Android assumes that it is in the /data mount which is the same place your apps get installed and which is monitored by the system for low space. Basically the download had no place to go, giving you a download error (since the market uses /cache to store downloaded apps). Or if there was room for the downloaded file you get package error because the .dex file can't get created in your dalvik-cache.
Hope this helps.

I've been googling about how to get the market in the CM7 rom for about two weeks , first I downloaded the market as a normal app , just got the apk and it doesn't work , then I read about that "gapps" package that I've flashed and no market appeared , I've just got three aditional applications : google search / car home / news and weather.
Looking for help getting thr market , thanks in advance.

Here you go. The newes Android Market. Just install the apk file on your phone.
You can complain about the absence of market after doing two things.
One is flashing the universal Google apps package for cm7 from recovery. And the second is signing into Google account on your phone. I hope you have done both.
And simply flashing the apk file may not install the market when there is no market on phone.
You can also check with a file manager whether or not there is "vending.apk" in the path "system/app".

How do I backup my paid apps downloaded from Google Play and then restore them when I do factory data reset?
And my phone is not rooted.

Do you want to restore data too or just the apps

All your apps should be saved on your google account......
Usually Google play already save all your downloaded apps (paid/free) in your My Apps section (in PlayStore press Menu->My Apps). Another option is to get AppBak from Google play & use it to backup/restore ur apps

Really? Even those games that have game save?
Well I'm not sure it saves the app data too as AppBak only create a txt file with all the apps you have & their download link (from which it restores them).
If you want the data too then you should try Titanium Backup,I read it saves app data too,but its a lil complicated to use,u might want to check out tutorials for it
