Should I root my phone? What are the advantages? This phone is already so fast.
If yes, which ROM is best so far?
1. Down to you
2. Remove bloat, debrand, latest versions, overclock, better battery life, custom mods and themes
3. there is no such thing as best rom, they are all good but for different reasons, best thing is try one, give it a week, try another till you find one you like.
Personaly im waiting for a a root without HTCDev, and 1st rom will be ARHD rom

Phone after root is more customizable... I recommend it but you need to know what you doing first... Research reaserch and more research before you start.
Which is the best?
Dunno...
But most updated... Stable and reliable is in my opinion ARHD... which I'm using at this moment.
PS. Battery last longer...

Yes, root also gives you access to other apps as well, some of which are extremely useful.
And as previously said, phone is more customizable, you won't be able to put it down.

Root voids warranty. Wait for s-off method. That's what am waiting for.

I rooted my phone 1 hour after getting it! if just for the adfree app
Running ARHD.

Oke, quick question guys.
I have an unbranded HTC Desire UNROOTED, haven't rooted it yet...
It came with 2.2 and fully working etc..
My following question, is it worth it to root my phone and get a ROM?
What are the benefits of using a ROM on HTC Desire...
Because I've been reading comments on different ROMs for ages now and I just can't figure out which is best and has everything working.
I want a clean ROM which I then can flash a theme on, so it probably should not be odexed. Sorry for so many questions I just want to be sure.
So basically my question is root or not root, and if root, which ROM.
Share your experiences please, thanks !
Same here, what are the disadvantages to ROMs and rooting over a stock ROM??? Just problems with changing SD cards? Stability? Bugs??
a2sd+ and ****load of space for apps is no. 1 for me.
Every rom is stable enough for heavy everyday usage, unless they are marked as experimental, beta or something along those lines.
Youll be able to install as many apps you want with a2sd+ which is better than stock FroYo a2sd as all of the apps actually go onto the sd card.
Speed is massively improved on vanilla and sense roms, which is always lovely.
Endless mods too. Youll be able to pick themes for your roms, and even make your own if youre up to it.
Hopefully that will convert you

...but, if you're happy with the performance and features of the stock ROM then there's probably no need. Most of us here do it just cos we can....
Oh, and just a warning, if you do root your device and start flashing different ROMS you may not be able to stop. Has been known to cause many problems, typically with wives and girlfriends.
I have hboot version greater than 0.75 (0.93 I think) and stock UK 2.2 ROM with latest update, can I still root and flash?
i also want to root, but im waiting for unrevoked v3.2.1, however im not sure if it works with hboot 0.93 (which im also on) can someone clarify that it works or doesn't??
Thanks

Thats very true, but rooting basically unlocks everything, except system access, but thats nearly done
Haha, yeah, they do get quite peeved when you pay more attention on your phone than them
As for the hboot people, I think all hboots have been rooted, you just need to search the development forum.

I have rooted my phone and I'm happy I did it.
Just like the feeling of it that it can do more now and not be limited.
the new unrEVOked can root HBOOT 0.93 as I did it before going back to stock
I downgraded first, shouldn't make a different on how the ROM runs.
So downgrade hboot and then root and flash.
Right, but rooting messes up the OTA updates...
Rooting only affects otas if your not on an official rom.

LOLOL...
That´s so true, my girlfriend hates my phone...
Had it rooted for a few weeks installed 2 or 3 rom´s, a few theme mod´s....
get it back to unroot status, why?
first of all the new radio gives u less battery drains, u still have froyo with stock rom, fast and stable and most important issue of all, WARRANTY...
i already bricked on Magic 32A

U can use OTA updates with root, but you need to use fake flash to enter custom recovery, if u flash the custom recovery, removing the original one, u get an error when trying to update via OTA
And why finally decided to root my phone?
1. Because I love modifying gadgets.
2. More options, more space by extension.
3. You can always go back to unroot.
4. Theme Sense or Non-Sense.
5. Backup whole ROM.
Etc..
Those are the advantages I was looking for.
And I'm happy with it and had no trouble!
The updates will be on a ROM too anyways.
Don't ROOT
If i knew it was so hard to UNROOT i wouldn't have ROOTED in the first place...!
Why do you need to unroot so badly and what is preventing you?
So any other advantages of rooting apart from increasing internal memory? For stability and productivity, what ROMs are recommend? Is class two Sandisk ok for app2sd+? Can the ext3 partition be backed up or copied to another card?

I have a few questions...what does s-off mean? What exactly is root and does it remove my current 2.3.3 gb? Can my phone be rooted? What does it mean exactly to get a different rom...? Is their specific roms for my phone it can I use any? Can I save my current Rom and settings? I'm a newer member and can't find anything in the crowded search results.

S-ON is a Security feature that a lot of the Newer phones come with to Prevent the user from Rooting their device!
To have Full Root Capabilities you will have to use whatever methods available for your phone to get your Bootloader S-OFF!
Having Root is basically Gaining Total Control of your phone and certain features you Probably Wouldn't have otherwise!
And having Root Would Not Remove your current Firmware!
To get a Different Rom means to Almost turn your phone into a Different phone. Android Development is Constant on XDA meaning a New feature your phone Doesn't come with Stock, may be available through Flashing a Custom Rom!
Yes you can Save your Current Firmware through what's called a Nandroid Backup!
Every phone has its Own Roms, if you Search the Wiki Section on a Desktop,or Laptop you'll find a bunch of phones listed and Probably a Better Understanding of what can be Accomplished with a Rooted phone!
I Hope this Helps...
Very helpful. Thanks.

Hi,
I am thinking about rooting my one x because it doesn't have hardware or software faults and i don't think I need to send it for warranty. But just incase I will need to in future will I be able to relock it? without htc knowing it when s-off for one x is available.
Thanks

i dont think so
Might be possible, unless there's something on the phone how would HTC know that we've actually used the unlock code apart from it saying unlocked. There might be a way in the future to wipe these stats if there are any.
Like in the Samsung devices there a custom binary which shows how many times you've flashed you can reset this with a jig.
I'm sure we can revert back to original when we get S-OFF but it's whether any other information is recorded somewhere on the phone by using htcdev.
For what's its worth I couldn't wait and used htcdev.
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
I'd actually be curious myself if it records somewhere that you used the unlock on it. I'd kind of be surprised if it didn't actually. But you can definitely flash back a stock rom and relock it. Whether that'd work if you sent it in for warranty or not, I don't know. I'm sure someone has tried and can verify though.
I think when you sign up with HTCDev and get the unlock key for your device, you're accepting immediately that signing up alone may void your warranty, but they leave the wording loose so it's difficult to actually tell. It's a nice way out of the warranty for them if they don't want to fix something and you've signed up on HTCDev.
Ok thank you very much guys. Im going to root my phone because it doesn't look like s-off for one x is going to come out soon. What stuff do you guys have on rooted one x?ow

Charmeleon rom, Francos kernel as a start.
For root purposes I use:
AdAway to get rid of ads,
Root Explorer to delete system/app bloatware,
Titanium Backup Pro to backup data app very useful for switching roms,
Autostarts to stop applications from auto starting on boot,
Those are my main root applications along with Super User.
Charmeleon rom is excellent with its vast array of tweaks.

I would like to install some apps that require root privileges. On my previous phone (Moto Milestone), we had 2 root procedures: Soft root, that could be achieved my an app, universal one root, and a hard root, which would require flashing various stuff. I understand that HOX has some permanent root procedures, but is there any way of achieving soft root? I do not want to void my warranty yet, and am willing to wait for S-OFF for a few more months.
Are there any soft root methods available for the One X?
none mate. you need to unlock bootloader through htcdev.com
I was having the same consern as you do, but after I received my 3rd HOX (the other two were faulty) , i decided to wait about 8-15 days, and since everything was ok, I unlocked it and rooted it. so far so good.
I spotted this. Haven't tested it myself though.

It work this ?
You must have unlock your bootloader to get root access or not ?
Anyone tried that method? Personally, I am suspicious of any procedure that doesn't come out of XDA..

The comments posted on the article imply that HTC have patched this method. However perhaps it would work with earlier software versions

This only works on the S4 chipset devices.
Hello! I have the standard M9, got it last year at launch. Rooted it and have been using roms ever since, no problems.
Then a few months ago when the AOSP roms started coming out I installed. Now my wifi drops out randomly, tried reinstalling, tried different roms and tried everything.
So I figured it had to be AOSP and wanted to try out sense again, but when I install a Sense-based ROM the phone won't boot, goes directly to the bootloader (white screen), anyone know what might be happening?
You must return the phone back to official status. There are plenty of threads on this subject.
If you think manufacturers are going to allow people to mess with root then return the phone because they broke it doing so, think again.
You should have understood beforehand that once rooted it's a pita to go back to stock but I guess that you are like most others that break it first and ask later..

Oh right, like a deodexed version..
In that case you must make sure you are on the same firmware as the rom is designed for. Cm13 needs marshmallow, cm12 needs lollipop etc. Beyond that you've borked something.

But as of the firmware, are no firmware packages flashable, or do you need to do it through a computer, because that part always confuses me and can't quiet find a good tutorial...
