Hello.
I want to root my phone (Htc one x) (Build: 1.29.401.7) but wonder something before:
Can the root attempt brick the phone?
Is there a superoneclick smiliar root for the phone witch only recuires some clicks?
Is it easy to unroot if i need to send the phone to repair cause of chase damage?

wondering, i noticed some other threads already about this, but im being a little specific here....
does rooting your G2, bought brand new from tmobile, void the warranty? anyone here happen to have to exchange theirs and they were rooted?
If Tmobile knows you rooted your phone YES it voids the warranty, BUT even if you root it there are methods to unroot it and return everything to stock for warranty purposes.

that much i did know...
on the MT4G, i have a stock rom on the memory card and visionary installed, so basically im ready to go to install stock rom backup and then use visionary to unroot.
does a non stock rom void warranty as well? or if you unroot that rom wont work anyway?

In order to have a non stock rom you need to root (S-OFF) the G2, so the awnser is the same as above, YES it voids the warranty.

Don't understand what you are asking here?
sorry that second quote was regards to the custom rom. makes sense about the rooting for custom rom i forgot root was required to do that.
it aint illegal unless you are caught doing it. If you havent been caught -- then it aint illegal.
And before you start rooting, dont use visionary to root your G2.
Does Visionary still work for temp-root?

Dont know but like I said dont use Visionary, its unreliable and has caused a few people to brick their G2's. Use the Wiki guide if you want to root.

Yes I did/do use Visionary for temp root purposes and it works well. I did have strangeness using it to temp root on my wife's MT4G, most notably that the market and titanium backup stopped working if temp rooted.
For perm rooting I used rage/gfree as laid out in the wiki.
Is that with the ROA 1.72?
Hello everyone, I just got a problem last night. I tried to permroot my G2 using Visionary+ and once it rebooted it got stuck on the HTC loadup screen. I have done a factory reset and have gone into recovery mode but when I do go into recovery mode, I get a droid phone with an exclamation mark in the middle and it just stays there.
I don't know many details about the phone other than what I can tell you from the HBOOT menu, I'd rather avoid sending it back in for a warranty repair unless I can just get to the normal screen where I can unroot it, I don't care who you are I just need help on what to do because I have no idea :\
Thanks guys, you're my last hope >:|
First off, this is why you DO NOT use visionary. Well documented to brick phones:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1025135
You can start off trying to recover your brick by looking at this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=842495
You might as well have written that in chinese, I have no idea what any of this means. it's S-ON and it won't go into recovery mode.
Walk me through what I need to do..? :\
So I had a thought, if I could use a friends Android which, Idk the model to, but could I just uninstall Visionary from there? Would that do anything at all?

You cant really uninstall visionary if you cant even boot up your phone. Right now the rom is corrupted and you need to follow an unbricking guide like the one mentioned above

What are you talking about? Connecting your phone to your friend's phone? It doesn't work that way.
Alright everyone, I called T-Mobile and I'm having a new phone by tomorrow, there's nothing I can do as, I have no idea how to fix my corrupted ROM,
I tried following the unbricking guide but I can't so much as get my phone detected by my computer to even do anything with it.
And another noob bites the dust

You really need to research before you try to root your phone. Like a lot of research.
and when you brick it, you need to research to try and un-brick it. This stuff is easy, but its tedious, and if you're not ready to deal with hours of trying to fix your phone, you shouldn't been rushing into rooting.
All of the info is in that thread. Dozens of people have followed it and recovered their semi-brick.

Agree with everything you said. One click roots can be dangerous and tempting, as they lure people to an easy method, without having to learn the basics . . . and that's how the trouble starts. Especially when the one click root method is known to result in possible semi bricks.
If anybody wonders why HTC tried going to locked bootloaders, or constantly trying to increase the security against rooting, situations like this is why. People not wanting to make an effort to root by proper methods, or fix their mistakes, and claiming a "warranty issue".
Hello guys, I was just wondering something...
We have root access through unlocking our bootloaders at htcdev.com , but if we actually do it, we will/can get in serious trouble due to it voiding the warranty. This is not that nice especially with so many faulty HOX's.
To get to the chase, my questions are simple.
Is it possible to get:
a) permanent root without unlocking the bootloader
b) temporary root without unlocking the bootloader
c) is anyone trying to achieve "a)"
d) is anyone trying to achieve "b)"
I remember an app for the Zte Blade (aka San Francisco) for instance, called z4root that would provide either temporary or permanent root access.
We would simply download it from the market, run it and afterwards root access was granted. Can something similar be done to our HOX's?
Regards

I think that your warranty only begins to become an issue if you start flashing custom roms/kernels, but I could be wrong.
Will check it then. But doesn't this method need htcdev.com bootloader unlocking procedure?

From my chat with HTC technical support, you unlock it...puff... Software warranty is void and hardware will be analised to check if you damaged it by bad use.
I'm not taking the chance of a technician with a bad day denying me my warranty... A sensor for instance...

Didn't work
My question is because i have a HTC EVO 4G and I rooted it. I had ensure for it and i had to send it back to Sprint, and I looked every where and couldn't unroot it. The S-OFF is always there and found other people with the same problem. (I did tried the S-on zip and all that, new custom, Stock Roms but none worked) I ended up paying the $100 for a replacement EVO... Now I have a S3. (my EVO still on the closet)
I want to root my:
Samsung Galaxy S3
Model SPH-L710
Android 4.1.1
..............................But before I do that I want to make sure I can unroot it and run the stock rom, is there any file that I have to backup or anything before rooting it? My HTC EVO I rooted and loss 4G with the stock rom because I want suppose to backup something first accourding to some articule that i read..
Again, What steps I have to take before rooting my S3 in order to unroot it without any problem?

Quickest root possible. Nothing to backup. Granted this is shiit you should know already
Pre root steps.. Open laptop/Start desktop. Watch video. Drink beer (if of age) download files needed. Plug in phone..
This is probaly one of the easiest/Quickest roots i've done yet.. Just follow the instructions and you shouldn't go wrong. Just ensure you don't flash anything for the wrong carrier or for the I9300 International version of our phone. And you'll be fine! (The things i mentioned could cause a hard brick rendering the phone nothing more then a paperweight.)

None here. I don't have any friends. lol..
Also, if you ever need to return to pure stock after you root all you have to do is flash http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1904099 in recovery.
I came up on this thread which linked me to
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2699089
I have no prior experience rooting except my Evo 4G LTE a few years ago. I'm cautious about that link though. I thought in order to root you had to use the command line and all that. I just want to be well informed in case I brick it. Don' have the cash at the moment to buy a new phone if that did happen.
Edit: I am running 4.4.3

I'm pretty sure that this program has to "re-root" every time you startup your device. Your best bet is to unlock the bootloader in HTC DEV, flash a recovery and download SU, which can be done by yourself which isn't really hard, just look up "How to root HTC one m8 on a mac" and follow the tutorial step by step. DON'T root if you don't know what your'e doing, and remember if you're stuck in a bootloop but able to restart your phone into bootloader and recovery (soft brick) you're most probably fine .
That guide will work on 4.4.3 right?
Phone rooted, thanks for the help.
