[Q] Best Sense 3.5 Rom? - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Right now I'm between Nil's rom and Pure's Clutch rom, any preference between the two?

Nil's Rom
I've been using Nil's Business Gingersense 3.5 Rom, and It is awesome. It's my favorite rom by far.
The bugs i have found and don't really bother me are:
the gallery forces closes when you try the effects.
music player forces closes when you try to change the sound enhancer settings.
the google search forces closes once in awhile.
also the Sense restarts after you get out of playing certain games.
I have taken the time to remove the apps i didn't want with Rom Toolbox and I got up to 160MB free of Ram. It very rarely freezes and goes very slow.
The Rom itself is still great. I would definitely recommend it. I used it and now i have a hard time finding another rom to go to. and i always end up back with Business Gingersense.

I was on nils for a couple of weeks and loved it. I never tried Clutch.
My only problem was that sense used up so much mem & /data/data space. I had a ton of apps installed & was forced to push them to the SD card with app2sd. Then it seemed that whenever I would plug into my laptop to copy files back & forth, when I undocked I would not see any of my apps that were installed to SD until I rebooted a few times? I'd usually reboot to recovery, delete dalvik, reboot, then wait some amount of time for them to be seen again.
Maye the ext4 mod would have helped me. And I think I read that the V6 supercharger script can prevent sense from restarting.

Well with Clutch you get the amazing battery life mod. Its newer as well and themed like ICS.
Nils is really good, although I cannot get over the fact on both of them cause me wifi drops.
Just try one of each out for a week and then choose?
Honestly I'd be looking into the sense 4 rom cooking up. It will be awhile before things get to work but its already super fast, like sense 1.0 fast.

[Q] Sense Roms Vs AOSP Roms

Is the general consensus that Sense roms are general more stable and complete than AOSP roms?
I have tried a few of both, and it seems that every AOSP rom is incomplete.
By incomplete I mean it always seems to:
Reboot for no reason
Not mount the phones internal storage, nor mount the internal storage when connect to the computer (thus assigning it a drive letter)
Random app forcecloses
Now I know you can have problems like this on Sense roms too.
I would like to stay on a AOSP rom, since the ones i have liked have great built in tweaking menus/apps.
Are there any AOSP that dont fall into the above criteria of reboot (especially when using wifi), mounting internal storage on and off the computer (i keep my mp3's and movies on there!), and minor forcecloses?
I have yet to find a single AOSP rom that works like it needs to. So far, for stability sake, stick with a sense rom.
I am in the same boat as you BTW, I have been testing each AOSP (havent been many) hoping, but so far I am still stuck with Sense- which I absolutely cannot stand.
I hear ya
Thanks for the reply. I look forward to an AOSP build too that fits all my needs. I am tired of sense also, and even when I get on a Sense rom, i load up LauncherPro immediately and pretty much dont use much of the sense stuff.
I really liked the Ruby and Shadowrom, but i had freezes, reboots, and not internel storage mounting of course. I tried different kernels, tweaking, wiping, praying, beer drinking, and even subjected myself to watching a chick flick with my Fiancée, and still no luck (at least with the roms).
I keep a sharp eye out on the Development forums daily, hoping to pounce on the next AOSP rom that does everything (tethering, storage mounting, wifi without reboots, to name a few) that roms like Skyraider and Virtuous (sorry if i didnt name someones), and still has that great AOSP rom ability to configure and tweak to my hearts end.

From my experience CM6 has none of those issues
Internal memory mounts it just doesnt display it in settings
And when I connect it to my computer I get both internal and external storages on my computer so I can access them both
I haven't had a random reboot untill I flash a custom kernal or if I overclock the original so I suggest don't overclock
But I still have the stupid email fc at startup but that's it

Really? May I ask which build or nightly build you are using? And which kernel with CM was giving you fc's? Thanks alot for the info too.

I've been using all the nightlies from the 19th on up in order
I use the standard kernel that comes with each build
Every one so far gives me the email fc

I currently run CM 6.0.2 with King's aosp kernel.
Internal storage is available when plugged into PC, doesn't show up (as has been stated.)
Rarely used Wifi anyway because I've got an unlimited data package, and can do my high-speed downloading on my laptop. Haven't even tried to use it since I've flashed, actually.
Had one random reboot when I setCPU to 1190mhz, oops. I remember my battery being excessively hot, as well. Since I generally run it at 768mhz, that doesn't bother me.
But why underclock my Incredible? Well, if I plan on doing something processor intensive, I'll crank it back up. If I use it for standard web browsing, video playback, etc, can barely tell the difference, and I unplug at 7:30am at 100% and get home from work at 5:30 at 70% on stock battery.
And honestly, the first ROM I flashed was CM6 RC3, and I swore to myself I'd never use it again, because it wasn't Sense.
You'll find the AOSP you like, it'll just take a few flashes. Besides, the developers aren't very possessive of their awesome accomplishments, that's why we get to use them.
For stability, Sense always wins...
But performance, which i personally care more about, AOSP roms are much better.
I'm running CM6 6.0.2 w/ King's Kernel, and all has been good. Just the battery life isn't so great, and bluetooth is kinda gimped. Aside from that, everything works, and i get no more random reboots.
I just wanted to revisit this topic because I typed in AOSP vs. Sense in google, and this was a result. Cyanogen Mod 6.1 final is damn near bullet proof and with the right research/widgets/kernel/etc can stomp just about anything.
Cyanogenmod should deliver great battery life as well as performance. Either 6 or 7 would produce great results
I'm on CM7 now and it's running GREAT.... no FCs or anything

Why should I use CM7?

I am currently using CR OTA Froyo... whats the real benefits of CM7 I flashed it while it was pre-RC and just went back because of minor issues... but now since in past RC1 what are the Pros...Cons...
Everthing is better more options n speed n customize more space looks trust me ull nevrr go bak.

What kind of issues did you have? Maybe they've been resolved?
I like CM7 a bunch, Stable is great... although my wifi is acting up.
i went from cm rc1 build for a few weeks to OTA for half a day then got the cm7, gotta sasy CM7 > RC1 > OTA all the way, the only thing is no gps but who cares
I tried CM7-RC4 and honestly, I missed Sense. I want a phone that is completely stable, I don't want to have to wonder if my wi-fi or bluetooth or gps is or isn't gonna work today. I'm using the rooted official 2.2.1 that was released along with Dark Tremor's a2sd which lets me move all my apps and the dalvik cache to the sd card, giving me amazing amounts of memory on the phone and it is super fast. And everything works perfect: wi-fi, bluetooth, gps, websites with flash.
Well I installed cm7 again... And it works ok... Randomly reboots periodically. Still don't really see the point, only benefit I get its I don't get memory low errors as I did with OTA 2.2.1

I agree with these statements so far, cm7 is great, with amy rom there is going to be some pros and cons. In most cases gps and/or wifi doesn't work. Hence why I stick to sense, also for me the theme is a negative for me, lack of support for sense widgets which most people tend to grow accustom to. As of now I'm running the rooted ota, modded by me. gold carded 8 gb sd, custom boot animation. No longer s-off. That was my own fault on my behalf of user stupidity, applying the update from t-mobile. Anyways, if your willing to lose sense and its widgets, and to-my-knowledge cm7's gps won't work, for more internal storage and possible performance reaction wise, cm7 other wise stock with sense.
use CM7 cause its coool...
Lol sorry im bored here at work atm but why its on all personal preference
I use cm7 on the slide cause i dont like all the bloatware on others/or lack of deving /support, and CM roms are most supported rom for themes and fixes/and ports,
and considering seems to be the rom that has most of the stuff in it working fully or to a degree where it is usable
thats things i can only think of now..
Imo there is no reason to go with cm7. I hear stuff about less bloatware but, there isn't much bloatware to begin with. I have about 20 apps installed and still have 130mb of free space on the phone. Just use aps2sd cachesd and a class 6 card and be done with it. I get the beutiful sense weather clock widget, the very pretty and functional htc sense mp3 player, and everything works with no issues and the phone is just as fast as cm7. Just make sure you update the kernel to the one nbetcher requests you use. I just wish he would have left myfaves in as I liked being able to quickly select the person I wanted to text or call. I also still have the myfaves account with tmobile.

You could try this one, it is the stock final OTA ROM but is already rooted and retains the older HBOOT (not the new 1.0) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1042472
I'm running it with apps2sd and a Class 10 card, with /data and dalvik cache going to the ext3 partition. It is super fast, and still has all the goodies like faves and genius functions.
I tried 3rd Sense ROM (I hate T-Mobile's crappy Sense mod) and went back to CM 7 in a week. It has a whole lot of options that can make your phone actually yours. The T-Mobile Theme Chooser is great and there is a decent amount of themes for it on XDA and on the market. It is a whole lot smoother and I prefer stock over Sense. I hate bloatware and CM 7 has no bloatware (unless you think ADW.Launcher is bloatware). CM 7 is a ROM that is actually constantly updated and everything works 100% for me (Nightly Build 42 has the wi-fi drivers that HTC release so wi-fi works great and GPS was never a problem for me).
Sense Widgets are great but you can find something on the market that looks like the widgets and usually behaves better (you can skin them, etc.) I use Beautiful Widgets for my clock/weather needs.
Also the flash lite thing, it doesn't work for anything "major" I tried to run some embedded youtube videos when I was on a website and the youtube video was jerky and laggy. Better to use the actually youtube app and unless you enjoy watching choppy, laggy videos that drain half you battery in like 15 min, go ahead and use flash lite

My experience has been very different from yours. The Sense ROMs perform very well here without an issue. That's the beauty of Android, we can have different versions to suit our individual tastes. You like CM7 better, I like the Sense ROMs, and we both win.
CM7.0.2 wins for me
I put off rooting my Slide for months because I was afraid of losing all the Sense UI stuff. But there were some things that became intolerable for me.
T-Mo puts that faves button next to the app drawer. My hand would hit it all the time on accident. I hate Faves. I think the concept is like making a redundant speed dial that is really slow and buggy and adds duplicate notifications when you get a text. I hated it.
It didn't help my opinion that the T-Mo apps broke every other month.
The HTC widgets are kinda cool but the animated rain gets old. The weather reporting was sub par anyway since about every third day the forecast would be completely off. I was, and still am, looking for a widget that pulls data from wunderground.com.
So, I finally made the jump when I saw CM7 released a stable. I got it. It worked really well. My phone got a lot faster overnight. T-Mo released the official update 3 days later and I put it on the wife's slide.
I am happy to report that side by side my slide is faster. I get all the same stuff she got but I can modify a lot of things she can't. CM7 settings makes really simple changes and tweaks easy. Like changing the notification pull down. Can't do that with Sense. You get what they give you.
Lastly, if you want some really good looking widgets try Minimalistic Text. Great looking, highly customizable and available to anyone.
well lets put it this way good sir its really up to you and what you want out of your phone for someone like yourself crmod might be better its just as stable as offical just allows you to keep root. i myself love cm7 and call me really lucky or whatnot i have no issues with cm 7 and never have my wifi is always flawless wifi hotspots are always working with pc bluetooth works great phone raido everything i have never had any issues. i did loose my s-off for being a dumbass and trying the new offical 2.2 tmob software that lasted mmm 2 hours and i had to re root that wasnt fun and now happy again. cm is good for me because i never had any issues some folks do though but much more options in cm that stock ever will have and my phone runs so much faster but i would check out cr mod you would like that and be able to keep root and all

General Rom questions 2.2, 2.3, 2.3.3 ect...

I'm trying to determine if I have an issue with my sdcard, phone itself or I just am impatient lol.
With all the 2.2 Roms my boot time was reasonably quick. With most of the 2.3 Roms the boot time was quick to ok, like MIUI and CM. Now getting into the SENSE 2.1 and up roms my boot times are very long. As in if I cleared my dalvik every time and beyond, although when I clear it the boot time it very lengthy up to 5 minutes and this hasn't been the norm before.
Is this a common thing among the newer Roms out with them having Rosies not native to our phones?
The reason I asked about this is I upgraded to a class10 card the same time I moved to the Synergy MikG Kingdom ect... type roms. I am not real fluent in all the behind workings so I am not sure exactly what reads when off the sdcard. I have it partitioned properly and thought that was supposed to improve performance.
Along the lines if this, and to further my curiousity, I have noticed that when I install an app, remove an app, drop or pick up 3g or wifi the phone lags. Enough to where it's not functional. This is only since moving to these Roms and sdcard though. After it's done doing its thing the phone runs super fluid like.

Best Sense ROM atm?

Hi folks,
What do you consider to be the best, fastest, most stable, battery saving, whatever Sense ROM for the Desire atm and why?
Simple question, but there are so many GB 2.1 Sense + some 3.0 Sense etc. kinda ROM's out there that it might be interesting to see which one is clearly XDA's favourite and why. What is the difference between all these ROM's and why do you use the one you flashed?
Any answers/input is highly appreciated
Feel free to discuss...
There is no best rom at all. It depends on personal preferences. Just test.

I will recommend AcesMod007, it's very fast, stable with good battery
i would thoroughly recommend insertcoin,
i have been running it for the last few weeks/month and so far i am very happy with it,
the only problem seems to be 720p video recording lag and also it stretches videos in portrait mode but they come out ok when played on pc,
apart from that i get no lag at all when using the phone, battery isnt as bad as people say and the sense 2.1/3.0 mix is rather sexy,
all taht said i would also recommend to try out a couple of roms, just remember to take a nandroid backup and revert back to a previous one if/when you wish,
Mine is surely not the best. But you can give a look: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1210178
I am on AcesMod007 (not 3d) and am also constantly searching for fastest sense rom (but must be very stable).
Previous rom was rcmix 2.0 - a GREAT rom, actually perfect for me, but I could always use less lag (esp. when scrolling), and that's why I am now trying AcesMod007.
I still cannot say it's much faster than rcmix, and it lags a little on the lock screen. On remix, lock screen never lagged (I use the normal - wallpaper one) Scrolling is much better, though.
To the future "Oh no, another best rom thread" remarks:
I like to read these threads and find them very informative. I am sure that many others do, too. Just don't join, read or reply if you don't like them. And roms are constantly evolving, especially for our beloved Desire! So a fresh start every now and then is really great imho.

Hi Sudkcoe,
I'm also on the .v32 of AcesMod007 (not 3d) and had the lag on the lockscreen too. Also had it in .v31
Today I tried the little update from PlayPetepp which pretty much eliminated the lag prob.
Check out: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16641755&postcount=1485
If you look further in the main post it'll tell you where to copy the 3 files to.
Hope it help

Hi,
Thanks for all the replies so far. I am currently on LeeDoird GB 3.0.8.2 and I really like it. It is fast, stable and together with SetCPU and Juice Defender i get easily 3-4 days of juice out of my desire
However, no Sense 3.0 And not sure how long this version will still get updates cause Lee starts focusing on his HD port and other devices...
So thats why i thought a best Sense-ROM thread might be useful, especially because there's lots of movement/developments recently and lots of ROMs look pretty similar but are so different when you flash em: So keep the feedback coming
I am still looking for my perfect Sense-ROM ^^
LeeDroid 3.3.3 HD. I've just come from AcesMod007 (v29) and have seen battery life almost double, fantastic stability, no FC's or anything. I'll be sticking with this for some time methinks.
I'll definitely check out the HD Lee Droid sometime soon. However, reports vary from awesome to a little buggy so i am not sure what to think of it yet...
I have two friends who too were on Aces007 move to this and they confirm my findings, it's extremely stable and battery life is massively improved.

I had 3 days and 8 hours on battery and like 20% left. During these 3 days, as i already stated, i didn't use it a lot except for some calls, sms and the active email sync (once an hour). I even listened to music for 5 minutes...so believe it or not. Why should i bull**** here
If you use it normally (including surfing, readings newssfeeds, listening to music) i still get 2 days easily.
I have tried most sense Roms including insertcoin, acemod but I have found sense 1.9 ROMs the quickest and most stable.
Teppics Rom is very good but the best is leedroid 3.0.8.2 as it does not lag at all.
I'm on AceSMod007-3D atm. Its all works surprisingly well and there is very little lag when simply moving about the homescreen. There's been lag with some widgets apparently but i only use weather and mail and they both seem fine. Also don't use the system restore in it. i did after screwing up my contacts and it screwed up all the A2SD+ stuff, had to uninstall and re-install all my apps to free up space on my internal again.
I use Insert Coin at the moment after using CM7 for a while.
I have seen a good improvement in responsiveness and battery life, I get through the day most of the time, but battery could still be better.

Need help finding ROMs, choosing which to try

I am trying to flash my Inc with a new ROM for the first time, but it seems like more than half the ROMs on this page are either removed by the developer or cant be downloaded because the download links are dead.
Any tips on what to try first, based on what available still? The only thing I am concerned with is that the ROM is stable and compatible with as many of the stock functions as possible, stuff like broken radios is not what I am looking for right now. Would be kinda cool to try one as different from stock as possible. Does CM7 work well on the Inc? I keep seeing people talking about stuff that is broken with it.

Ice Cream Sandwich. Abduction by Hanger84 is smoother than the Sense ROMs.
Sent from my Incredible using XDA
Abduction is good to try if you want to experice ice cream.... but prepare for some bugs and missing features ( ie Camcorder, camera, & flash on websites and netflix) I suggest one of the gingerbread Roms or Froyo Roms. CM 7 or 8 should be fine, but you loose some of the things you may be accustomed to in Sense (Widgets). But there are pretty good apps that can do what sense does, you just have to look for them.
I'm using CM 7.2 RC1 (RC2 crashes right away for me) with latest ICS Incredikernal and SmartassV2 governor, fully over-clocked. Never crashes, everything works but, of course, 720p recording. I even found decent settings for auto-brightness (Make about 16 levels, start out at ~70, go up in ~5 point increments, then increase. Set Window Length to 5 secs). I have tried three ICS roms but always went back.
I'm using the new Go Launcher but it has a couple of bugs. Clear its data to get the large icons if you are stuck on small. To change settings on the large weather clock you have to do it via the small weather clock.
I use CyanogenMod 7.2. Along with Chad/Tiny's Incredikernel, Jermaine/Tiny's EXT4All mod, and Launcher Pro. Speedy and battery efficient. The latest RC should be fine, I'm on one of the nightlies and have been using Pons' KANGs when his computer was still working.
In addition to Sonny Sekhon's Ice Cream Sandwich CM7 Theme.
If you like the stock ROM, and want something stable and based off of it, Liberation 3.0 is a good choice. It is basically a rooted, debloated, stock ROM. I keep a copy on my SD card incase I need access to EPST or just feel like using Sense.
ICS is getting there, but the laggy animations and general speed have kept me away. It seems to me that the current hardware acceleration isn't 100% implemented. But I have never used ICS outside of the Incredible. So I don't have room to compare.
I'm with the majority here. CM 7.2 RC2 is great. I actually have stock kernel though, I am not sure if performance is better with incredikernel but I can tell you that CM7 is TONS better than stock in terms of battery life, customization, and overall android experience. I like sense but on the Inc, it's like they stopped trying...
P.S. - I also use GO Launcher EX with kovdev's ICS theme.
Well I just switched from Abduction to CM9 and so far CM9 is much better!!

I use a app called play on for YouTube Netflix and a lot of other video sites.. yea the camera fix seems to break playback on YouTube.. but I'm optimistic that those issues will be worked out since cm9 is still in development. What I love is that every feature u find in other Asop roms u can get apps that do that... so u can customize it better for your own personal taste and still have better stability!!!!!

Ok before I started getting replies here I dl'd Touch of Blue and Stock+, tried ToB for the week and it was ok but started to crash and lag a lot. The latter may have been due to my SetCPU settings, I dunno, but it was getting hung up on simple apps, and I did not like a couple things about it, like getting calls when the screen is off required you to unlock it, then unlock it again at the receiving call screen. Also didnt like the battery meter.
Just installed Stock+ and immediately realized it wouldn't work at all when I saw that the App Data partition was still at 150MB. Thats the whole reason I rooted, so there is no way I am using a ROM that is eventually gonna give me the Low space messages again.
GOnna try the ones you guys suggested now
I like Wildstangs stock ROM, and gtiny's kernel. I used root app delete to debloat it. And run the on demand deadline settings and can go 11 hours on a full charge with heavy use.
I also like the last stable release of CM7.1.0 it is smoking fast and way less issues then the nightlies or kangs to me.

Tried Liberation but the App Data partition is still only 150MB; as soon as I restore my apps its gonna be out of space again.
ALL ROMs for the Incredible are going to have a 150 MB data/data partition. It's the way HTC made it. The only way around it is with the EXT4All mod. More information here. The file you're looking for to remove the limit is "Convert2Ext4_no_data_limit_normal_dalvik.zip".
And there is an options in the CM7 sound settings to disable the shutter sound. Called "Mute camera shutter".
Ok I found the camera sound setting, thanks. Any advice on getting the Google account to work? The Account settings were trying to setup an email thing, not my Google account
EDIT:
Figured out that I need to flash the Google apps pack on CM7 to get that all to work, but ClockworkMod kept failing to mount the pack when I tried to install it. Now I am back on Liberation, because at least here I have my Google account with contacts, but I cannot get the EXT4 fix to work. I download it, open it with Clockwork, tell it to reboot and apply, but it fails to mount it, just like the Google apps pack problem. Using Clockwork 5.0.2.0
