What kind of issues did you have? Maybe they've been resolved?
I like CM7 a bunch, Stable is great... although my wifi is acting up.

i went from cm rc1 build for a few weeks to OTA for half a day then got the cm7, gotta sasy CM7 > RC1 > OTA all the way, the only thing is no gps but who cares

I tried CM7-RC4 and honestly, I missed Sense. I want a phone that is completely stable, I don't want to have to wonder if my wi-fi or bluetooth or gps is or isn't gonna work today. I'm using the rooted official 2.2.1 that was released along with Dark Tremor's a2sd which lets me move all my apps and the dalvik cache to the sd card, giving me amazing amounts of memory on the phone and it is super fast. And everything works perfect: wi-fi, bluetooth, gps, websites with flash.

Well I installed cm7 again... And it works ok... Randomly reboots periodically. Still don't really see the point, only benefit I get its I don't get memory low errors as I did with OTA 2.2.1

I agree with these statements so far, cm7 is great, with amy rom there is going to be some pros and cons. In most cases gps and/or wifi doesn't work. Hence why I stick to sense, also for me the theme is a negative for me, lack of support for sense widgets which most people tend to grow accustom to. As of now I'm running the rooted ota, modded by me. gold carded 8 gb sd, custom boot animation. No longer s-off. That was my own fault on my behalf of user stupidity, applying the update from t-mobile. Anyways, if your willing to lose sense and its widgets, and to-my-knowledge cm7's gps won't work, for more internal storage and possible performance reaction wise, cm7 other wise stock with sense.

use CM7 cause its coool...
Lol sorry im bored here at work atm but why its on all personal preference
I use cm7 on the slide cause i dont like all the bloatware on others/or lack of deving /support, and CM roms are most supported rom for themes and fixes/and ports,
and considering seems to be the rom that has most of the stuff in it working fully or to a degree where it is usable
thats things i can only think of now..

Imo there is no reason to go with cm7. I hear stuff about less bloatware but, there isn't much bloatware to begin with. I have about 20 apps installed and still have 130mb of free space on the phone. Just use aps2sd cachesd and a class 6 card and be done with it. I get the beutiful sense weather clock widget, the very pretty and functional htc sense mp3 player, and everything works with no issues and the phone is just as fast as cm7. Just make sure you update the kernel to the one nbetcher requests you use. I just wish he would have left myfaves in as I liked being able to quickly select the person I wanted to text or call. I also still have the myfaves account with tmobile.

You could try this one, it is the stock final OTA ROM but is already rooted and retains the older HBOOT (not the new 1.0) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1042472
I'm running it with apps2sd and a Class 10 card, with /data and dalvik cache going to the ext3 partition. It is super fast, and still has all the goodies like faves and genius functions.

I tried 3rd Sense ROM (I hate T-Mobile's crappy Sense mod) and went back to CM 7 in a week. It has a whole lot of options that can make your phone actually yours. The T-Mobile Theme Chooser is great and there is a decent amount of themes for it on XDA and on the market. It is a whole lot smoother and I prefer stock over Sense. I hate bloatware and CM 7 has no bloatware (unless you think ADW.Launcher is bloatware). CM 7 is a ROM that is actually constantly updated and everything works 100% for me (Nightly Build 42 has the wi-fi drivers that HTC release so wi-fi works great and GPS was never a problem for me).
Sense Widgets are great but you can find something on the market that looks like the widgets and usually behaves better (you can skin them, etc.) I use Beautiful Widgets for my clock/weather needs.
Also the flash lite thing, it doesn't work for anything "major" I tried to run some embedded youtube videos when I was on a website and the youtube video was jerky and laggy. Better to use the actually youtube app and unless you enjoy watching choppy, laggy videos that drain half you battery in like 15 min, go ahead and use flash lite

My experience has been very different from yours. The Sense ROMs perform very well here without an issue. That's the beauty of Android, we can have different versions to suit our individual tastes. You like CM7 better, I like the Sense ROMs, and we both win.

CM7.0.2 wins for me
I put off rooting my Slide for months because I was afraid of losing all the Sense UI stuff. But there were some things that became intolerable for me.
T-Mo puts that faves button next to the app drawer. My hand would hit it all the time on accident. I hate Faves. I think the concept is like making a redundant speed dial that is really slow and buggy and adds duplicate notifications when you get a text. I hated it.
It didn't help my opinion that the T-Mo apps broke every other month.
The HTC widgets are kinda cool but the animated rain gets old. The weather reporting was sub par anyway since about every third day the forecast would be completely off. I was, and still am, looking for a widget that pulls data from wunderground.com.
So, I finally made the jump when I saw CM7 released a stable. I got it. It worked really well. My phone got a lot faster overnight. T-Mo released the official update 3 days later and I put it on the wife's slide.
I am happy to report that side by side my slide is faster. I get all the same stuff she got but I can modify a lot of things she can't. CM7 settings makes really simple changes and tweaks easy. Like changing the notification pull down. Can't do that with Sense. You get what they give you.
Lastly, if you want some really good looking widgets try Minimalistic Text. Great looking, highly customizable and available to anyone.

well lets put it this way good sir its really up to you and what you want out of your phone for someone like yourself crmod might be better its just as stable as offical just allows you to keep root. i myself love cm7 and call me really lucky or whatnot i have no issues with cm 7 and never have my wifi is always flawless wifi hotspots are always working with pc bluetooth works great phone raido everything i have never had any issues. i did loose my s-off for being a dumbass and trying the new offical 2.2 tmob software that lasted mmm 2 hours and i had to re root that wasnt fun and now happy again. cm is good for me because i never had any issues some folks do though but much more options in cm that stock ever will have and my phone runs so much faster but i would check out cr mod you would like that and be able to keep root and all

[Q] sense...

Been having a great time playing around with my evo, have it fully rooted and flashed with the latest cm which has been really great on battery life and experimenting but I think im trying to run before I can walk. My first question is what exactly is it that sense brings to my phone?
Is it just a bunch of bloated screen effects to make the phone look pretty?....I really enjoy cm 6 but I do miss some things from stock like the call window, gallery, contact list, and browser (the stock browsers auto adjusting seemed a lot better)....but I don't miss the horrible battery life.
Is it sense that brought me those things I liked, or can I get them in cm with enough customization?
Tbh I've been looking at the new fusion mod since I'm in a 4g area and it would be nice to put my phone to full use. I was just curious about the sense vs. senseless.

Switching to Launcher Pro - Time to go to CM6?

So I just (half-an-hour ago) switched over to Launcher Pro. I absolutely love it. I'm running it on Fresh 3.2.0.0 with Kingx's BFS #8 . . . but I just realized that I'm basically bordering on being done with Sense altogether. I am used to (and prefer) the HTC dialer, messaging, VVM, and a few other things, so that would make the switch hard, but how much Sense is still going on behind Launcher Pro? Is it going to kill my performance or battery life?
There's still some Sense stuff in the background, but it's not all bad. The awesome copy and paste ability that you see in the browser would be gone. The MMS app in CM6 doesn't let you send messages longer than 160 characters without it failing to send. Also, the battery life of CM6 is much worse than Fresh 3.2.0.0. Yesterday I read an ebook, messaged, surfed and played a bit of Connectoo and still had 66% battery life after 12 hours. Sure, that was light use, but I can barely make it to 9 hours on CM6 without it dying.
If you want to try CM6, here are a few things to address your concerns. You can install VVM on CM6 and it will work just fine (though some people report getting annoying notifications saying that they have a message when they don't). You can install Handcent messager which will let you bypass the 160 character bug I mentioned above. Also, there is an app called Dialer One that behaves kind of like the Sense dialer.
Edit: and if you use Exchange for your mail, I really like CM6's AOSP email app. If you type a letter or two from the email address you want, it will actually search the server's email addresses and list all matches, not just those in your own contact list.
Thanks for the info! I think I'll stick with Fresh and LP for now, it's everything I love. Gonna try VaelPak before reflashing to get rid of this theme I just flashed (didn't nandroid first), then it'll be back to the old standby.
I've been using Vaelpak for about a week now and its great. I switched when I found myself using Sense less and less. I never tried CM6 because I use 4G and can't do without it.

I used to be on Cyanogen...since the first nightly up to the final version. I recently got 4G in my area...so I've tried Baked Snack and Fresh...right now I've been using Vaelpak for about 12 hours and it is a very nice mostly Sense-less alternative.
btw, launcher pro is awesome, but I love my ADW just a little more
I used both Launcher Pro and ADW and I love ADW. Dont get me wrong I really liked LP and I like the customaizable dock but ADW is where its at man. If your gonna try another laucher play with ADW and play with all the settings there is a lot. Also that post above about CM6 isnt accurate lol. I have been running CM6 for a month now and my battery life is awesome. He probably had an app not letting his phone sleep. For instance my phone died in 9 hours the other day. I used it none stop for 5 hours straight then used it lightly for 4 hours before it died. I always get by a full day and charge everynight. If I used it lightly for a day i wouldnt have to charge it that night. Today its been off charge for 9 hours and I used it kinda lightly however I streamed pandora for at least 3 hours today. My battery is at 46%. Oh and I am not running any special kernals, I dont use a task killer and I dont use Juice. The only thing syncing is my PSN friends widget. That sync's every thirty minutes.
Lastly I really like the AOSP dialer because its got the option for favorits and that basicly takes the place of the only sense widget I used. CM6 is great no sense is a bit overwhelming the first time you load CM6 but man I am really loving it. Also Iv been on fresh and liked it, I also liked DC 3.2 when I tried that. Since I have loaded CM6 a month ago I havnt flashed any other rom. I hate to sound like a CM6 fan boy lol but CM6 is perfect for me even if its not perfect for others. I mean I was using ADW before I loaded CM6 and I never used any of the sense widgets so whats isnt there to love about CM6 for me. I get 4G in my area and still use CM6 lol.
Whatever you do have fun and love the fact that you have choics because with all the choices we have out there now we can really choose what is perfect or what works for use. Even if you where to like sense its your choice your phone do what you want. Thats just my disclaimer so I dont get flamed for touting CM6 so much in this post lol.
You can also remove a lot of the sense and sense widgets form the phone to prevent a lot of them from running in the background. I am of the minority it seems that is nto a fan of AOSP. I admit cyanogen does amazing work just from what he has accomplished but the rom is nto for me. (of course i also dont like ADW but yuo can switch that even on CM)
Anyway basically if yuo know you arent going to use the sense ui then i suggest just removing it and the htc sense widgets. I have a script now that i flash after each rom install /upgrade to remove sense and all the extra htc sense widgets (at least i am pretty sure i got them all) and a few things i dont use (ie peer networking apps cardock etc)

CM6 vs Vaelpak

I am thinking about flashing CM6 this weekend just to see what it's like. I have been on Vaelpak 2.2 and been very happy with it. I tried some of the sense roms first (Baked and Myn mainly) and didn't think I would like a non-sense rom but I am digging Vael w/Launcher Pro and haven't really missed sense.
I know that the ultimate test will be to try it out myself and I plan to. I am also not trying to start another blanket "which one is best thread" but I would like to hear some thoughts from some of you Rom Warriors that have spent some decent time with both to see what I should expect as far as these two are concerned.
Other factors: I am not in a 4G area, HDMI isn't important (right now anyways) and I never listed to the FM radio anyways. I also have one of the Chinese batteries on the way, so as long as the weight of it don't scare me off, I hopefully won't have battery issues with either rom.
With those factors in the mix, can some of you offer your informed opinions of what I should expect to see/miss if I flash CM6?
I think both have new versions cooking (see what I did thar) so just give me your thoughts on the current versions.
Thanks a bunch!
I am doing that right now but I am coming from Fresh. So far don't like it. No Market- so far, I found a "fix" but it doesn't work, so I have a phone with web and that is about it!! Need to search some more but tied up with kids etc...

Did you install gapps, per chance?
AOSP is something you either like or dislike ... there is no middle ground. I have used CM6 extensively, but I also maintain a nice "Sense" rom, for whenever I'm in a 4g area. On that point, I may not need it much longer, as CM6 will be going 4g very shortly. Also looks like HDMI will be working soon ... FM Radio has already been added.
Basic aosp, like in Cyanogen's rom is very quick, very smooth, and just works. You will hear about people who are having an issue here and there, but it's almost always "user error". That doesn't mean that CM6 is perfect, but it is highly evolved and almost there.
Most of the people coming from "sense" will not like it. Although it doesn't have all the widgets and stuff ... almost everything can be replicated. For example, I like the look of the clock/weather widget and so I use "fancy widget", an almost exact replica. I also like launcher pro, and it works perfectly. I could go on and on, but you will need to decide for yourself.
Do a nand back up of whatever you're currently using, and jump in. And don't give up after a couple of hours. As with everything new, there is a learning curve ... and you should do some reading/exploring. Ask lots of questions ... there is plenty of help available ... all be it, with the usual XDA "style". I will leave you with this final thought ... Cyanogen is without a doubt, the foremost Android developer ever.
CM6 will be smoother, less lockups and just overall run better. I haven't run Vael's so I don't know if he uses AOSP contacts and dialer, but I prefer the AOSP contacts and text apps. I download Dialer One from the market to get T9 dialing.
Integration with facebook contacts and twitter is much better on CM6. CM6 may have 4G working soon, FM Radio is working now, and HDMI is close as well. The camera app on CM6 is leagues better than any of the other camera apps.
Just make sure when you install cm6 that you install the Gapps zip since you need that to get maps, market, gmail and the basic google services.
I have a lot of time with both roms. Vaelpak's rom is fantastic and his support is quick and spot on. probably the developer that is the most reachable when you have a problem or question. Very smooth, stable, and fast. CM6 takes a lot of fine tuning to get all the apps you want and get it set up to exactly the way you want it. Its so damn fast and smooth that people in 4g areas run the rom anyway because it's performance out weighs the lack of 4g and hdmi. And snap's kernels and his support team are second to none. When 4g makes it to CM I will run that rom as my daily exclusively on my EVO until the new dual core phones come out or the EVO 2.

[Q] reason to move to cm7

hello everybody
I am totally a noob as you say. i have a defy officialy updated to 2.2.2; since then i have some lag and reboot. in the french forum i have been advised to move to cm7 to avoid such pb. they give me links and tutorials, but it seems very hard to me to go ahead, i roughly succed in recording apk in the sd cards.
they try to help me nicely, but i feel totaly lost moreover with this strange vocabulary you use
this is why i am wondering if it is a good thing for me and the use i have of the defy to try to upgrade it.
basically, i read my emails, skype friends, facebook, read ebooks and take pictures and video of my sons i don't feel any probs with motoblur, don't play game or video or other stuffs like that.
even now, i am writing with my laptop .
i am pissed off when it reboot but it isn't not the end of the world.
what cm7 could bring to sb like me ?
thanks for your help
I do not use the Defy, but it sounds like you are happy with your phone. CM7 streamlines a lot of
unwanted and imo unneeded apps (and lots more really) from your phone. If you are satisfied with your phone's performance I see no need to do anything. I do however use CM7 and love the less is more feel and MUCH better performance.
Read the forums to decide what is best for your own needs.

Hmmm...if y you are new to rooting, flashing and using recovery and is not adventurous, then I suggest to stay with froyo as of now especially if you don't have the time or a spare phone. But if you really want a faster (case to case), good on battery( case to case), beingconstantly updated phone, then change to cm7.

This is really a nice qn
I have used official eclair froyo miui cm7
cm7 is not so gud in customizations.
They give some hardware acceleration and you will not find much of lags on that gingerbread UI.
For looks, i recommend u to use Launcher pro . I am using it with cm7 and the combination is perfect.
U can definitely move to cm7 latest nightly. If u want good camera then u can move to milestone 2 rom.
On the contrary, CM7 is heavy customizable. Lots of features. I suggest you read this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1065798 and the CM7 thread for the latest Google Apps and Cm7. It's not that hard to install, actually it's really easy if you follow their steps.
You can use ADW/ Launcher pro or GO launcher. I personally use Go Launcher and i like it, doesn't crash, loads fast.
You can PM me if you want help in upgrading. Why keep your smartphone on 2.2 when you can unleash it's full potential with 2.3.4. Another reason is apps support, everything works on Gingerbread but not everything on Froyo, Hardware is much more faster ( download Quadrant Standard from the market) i get 2200-2400 . Browsing, doc reading/editing is much smoother. Better battery and the list could go on.
Oh, andf Nightlies are for testing... RC0/RC1 are stable versions to use.

Had cm7 on my SGS got my defy and knew it had 200mhz less processor but otbwas very laggy needed restarting loads lots of force close. Opening Google maps was a joke.
Installed cm7 all better now and it removed the 800mhz underclock so now rocking a 1ghz and it works better then my SGS. Did some quick boot tests, opened a few apps defy was quicker then the SGS and the iPhone 3gs

thanks,
after an attentive look at it, it seems that most probs are on camera and as it is a main use of my defy i will stay with official froyo.
thanks guys
I had some reboots and issues too after updating to official froyo. They were all gone after doing a complete wipe.
If you have many apps installed and stuff on your phone, root your phone using SuperOneClick (is really, REALLY easy.. click, click rooted) and install Titanium Backup. Save all your apps and do a complete Wipe.
After that, your phone should be working perfectly. To do this wipe, with the phone turned off, hold Volume Down and turn it on (while still holding V. Down) at the triangle screen press at the same time Vol up and Vol Down. There you will see the options to Clear Cache and Delete User data.
You could also try only wiping cache, it wont delete any information on your phone, but might fix issues (No rooting or anything special needed for this)
Hope it helps~
Zephyrot' s post speaks true. See if you can't fix the issues with a factory reset / cache clear
For the first few months I didn't want to really root my phone or flash it as I was expecting ear piece problem. When I finally took the plunge I wanted a rom that removed motoblur, it's launcher and almost everything else so I could configure it myself from market apps and always have the latest versions.
This lead me not to CM7 - which is also rather bloated and still rather buggy when i last tried the nightlies it 2 weeks ago - but Barebones: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=977989
I installed 1.5.1 after flashing the nordic 2.2.2. I have never been happier.
I have now updated to 1.5.6 + the update.zip for market fixes - used Titanium backup *root* to transfer my apps and settings. I replaced the zoom launcher with launcherPro, milestone overclock to 1100 at 65vsel (after some testing with lower / higher settings).
Finally it was a blurless, bare rom that has the pure minimum as a base and all else can be added via the market afterwards.
Advantages :
its 2.3.4
highly customizable
gr8 performance
lots of options under cyanogenmod settings
mobile will be fully flexible
rest all feature u will come to know only when u try it
all the best

Need help finding ROMs, choosing which to try

I am trying to flash my Inc with a new ROM for the first time, but it seems like more than half the ROMs on this page are either removed by the developer or cant be downloaded because the download links are dead.
Any tips on what to try first, based on what available still? The only thing I am concerned with is that the ROM is stable and compatible with as many of the stock functions as possible, stuff like broken radios is not what I am looking for right now. Would be kinda cool to try one as different from stock as possible. Does CM7 work well on the Inc? I keep seeing people talking about stuff that is broken with it.

Ice Cream Sandwich. Abduction by Hanger84 is smoother than the Sense ROMs.
Sent from my Incredible using XDA
Abduction is good to try if you want to experice ice cream.... but prepare for some bugs and missing features ( ie Camcorder, camera, & flash on websites and netflix) I suggest one of the gingerbread Roms or Froyo Roms. CM 7 or 8 should be fine, but you loose some of the things you may be accustomed to in Sense (Widgets). But there are pretty good apps that can do what sense does, you just have to look for them.
I'm using CM 7.2 RC1 (RC2 crashes right away for me) with latest ICS Incredikernal and SmartassV2 governor, fully over-clocked. Never crashes, everything works but, of course, 720p recording. I even found decent settings for auto-brightness (Make about 16 levels, start out at ~70, go up in ~5 point increments, then increase. Set Window Length to 5 secs). I have tried three ICS roms but always went back.
I'm using the new Go Launcher but it has a couple of bugs. Clear its data to get the large icons if you are stuck on small. To change settings on the large weather clock you have to do it via the small weather clock.
I use CyanogenMod 7.2. Along with Chad/Tiny's Incredikernel, Jermaine/Tiny's EXT4All mod, and Launcher Pro. Speedy and battery efficient. The latest RC should be fine, I'm on one of the nightlies and have been using Pons' KANGs when his computer was still working.
In addition to Sonny Sekhon's Ice Cream Sandwich CM7 Theme.
If you like the stock ROM, and want something stable and based off of it, Liberation 3.0 is a good choice. It is basically a rooted, debloated, stock ROM. I keep a copy on my SD card incase I need access to EPST or just feel like using Sense.
ICS is getting there, but the laggy animations and general speed have kept me away. It seems to me that the current hardware acceleration isn't 100% implemented. But I have never used ICS outside of the Incredible. So I don't have room to compare.
I'm with the majority here. CM 7.2 RC2 is great. I actually have stock kernel though, I am not sure if performance is better with incredikernel but I can tell you that CM7 is TONS better than stock in terms of battery life, customization, and overall android experience. I like sense but on the Inc, it's like they stopped trying...
P.S. - I also use GO Launcher EX with kovdev's ICS theme.
Well I just switched from Abduction to CM9 and so far CM9 is much better!!

See if Youtube works. Didn't for me. I ended up using the Go Launcher anyway so the experience was the same for me. There weren't as many stock apps like Car Home and the music widget is not the big one. Things like Phone and Calculator open slowly. Never did crash tho or even lag.
Hi, I am new to XDA and was looking for some links to the cm9 rom for DINC. I am currently running aokp_inc_build-25 and its nice but I have had some issues with it specifically with the camera not working properly.
Thank you in advance for the assistance.

I use a app called play on for YouTube Netflix and a lot of other video sites.. yea the camera fix seems to break playback on YouTube.. but I'm optimistic that those issues will be worked out since cm9 is still in development. What I love is that every feature u find in other Asop roms u can get apps that do that... so u can customize it better for your own personal taste and still have better stability!!!!!

Ok before I started getting replies here I dl'd Touch of Blue and Stock+, tried ToB for the week and it was ok but started to crash and lag a lot. The latter may have been due to my SetCPU settings, I dunno, but it was getting hung up on simple apps, and I did not like a couple things about it, like getting calls when the screen is off required you to unlock it, then unlock it again at the receiving call screen. Also didnt like the battery meter.
Just installed Stock+ and immediately realized it wouldn't work at all when I saw that the App Data partition was still at 150MB. Thats the whole reason I rooted, so there is no way I am using a ROM that is eventually gonna give me the Low space messages again.
GOnna try the ones you guys suggested now
I like Wildstangs stock ROM, and gtiny's kernel. I used root app delete to debloat it. And run the on demand deadline settings and can go 11 hours on a full charge with heavy use.
I also like the last stable release of CM7.1.0 it is smoking fast and way less issues then the nightlies or kangs to me.

CM7.2 couldn't figure out how to add my Google account. Also couldnt disable the camera shutter sound.
Tried Liberation but the App Data partition is still only 150MB; as soon as I restore my apps its gonna be out of space again.
ALL ROMs for the Incredible are going to have a 150 MB data/data partition. It's the way HTC made it. The only way around it is with the EXT4All mod. More information here. The file you're looking for to remove the limit is "Convert2Ext4_no_data_limit_normal_dalvik.zip".
And there is an options in the CM7 sound settings to disable the shutter sound. Called "Mute camera shutter".
Ok I found the camera sound setting, thanks. Any advice on getting the Google account to work? The Account settings were trying to setup an email thing, not my Google account
EDIT:
Figured out that I need to flash the Google apps pack on CM7 to get that all to work, but ClockworkMod kept failing to mount the pack when I tried to install it. Now I am back on Liberation, because at least here I have my Google account with contacts, but I cannot get the EXT4 fix to work. I download it, open it with Clockwork, tell it to reboot and apply, but it fails to mount it, just like the Google apps pack problem. Using Clockwork 5.0.2.0
