Will the carrier unlocked version work on verizon and is the bootloader unlocked?

I'm currently on the S7 Edge from Samsung on the Verizon network. I'm looking to purchase the Pixel XL 2 to use on the Verizon network. I plan on purchasing from the Google store and I was wondering which version of the phone should I purchase? I plan on rooting and loading a custom rom on the phone. Should I purchase the carrier unlocked version? Will the bootloader be unlocked and will the carrier unlocked version work with Verizon? I dont want to purchase the wrong phone and not have it work on Verizon. Seems like a stupid question and I apologize in advance. Will the Verizon only version from the Google Store have an unlocked bootloader?
Thanks!

Sprint Galaxy S9 - Able to move to Verizon?

Has anyone successfully moved their Sprint Galaxy S9 to Verizon? I'm being told it's not possible.
Sprint has told me they are unlocked and I have paid for the devices in full.
Thanks in advance!

Since Verizon does have BYOD, have you tried putting your IMEI in over at Verizon's checker?

I have, but it says not eligible. Though, I'm not sure that really means anything aside from it not being in their database. When attempting to port over in-store, their order app says "device not found".
I would think they just need it to be added? I have been told by numerous Sprint agents that the device is unlocked and when looking in the phone settings, the UICC Unlock status is: "Your device is unlocked for any SIM card.".

VZW Exclusive?

Hey all - I haven't seen anything regarding carrier exclusivitivity. I'm on T-Mobile, and would get this at launch - assuming it's still a VZW Exclusive?
TIA!

Well don't make the mistake everyone else made with the pixel 2.... If you want an unlocked bootlloader and plan on doing custom ROMs and stuff don't get Verizon version.... buy the unlocked version from Google store.

Not sure if it is a VZ exclusive but T Mobile said yesterday they would not carry it. I would be surprised if any other US carrier does. I expect the exclusive deal VZ and Google have will carry on for some time.
It is a Verizon Exclusive. Only sold through Verizon's stores and even at Best Buy's it is sold through Verizon. You could order it unlocked from Google though and activate it on any network
I was hoping that at least this year the google store in New York would have the unlocked version. Seems silly that the googlle store would only have Verizon version.... That's the purpise of the Verizon store!!

Yes, but Google may have an agreement with VZ to only sell unlocked versions online only for the exclusive (just speculating).

True but whats the purpose of a google store then....you could just go to best buy or Verizon to see the google displays.

Pixel 3a XL - Bestbuy bootloader Unlocked?

Hi,
Anyone with the Best-buy Unlocked version can confirm if the bootloader is Unlocked? Perviously only the Verizon version was available with Bootloader locked, now with this models looks like all the devices will be bootloader unlockeable.
Thanks,
I guess a better question would be what pixel 3a XL have an unlocked bootloader? I am interested in buying one from t-mobile. I would assume the one sold at the google store has an unlocked bootloader.
Thanks for any information.

I bought the unlocked Pixel 3a XL at Best Buy today. The OEM unlock toggle in developer options is not greyed out. The bootloader is unlockable....

Per google all pixels are sold at carriers, except Verizon, are the same exact one sold from google store. They only include a sim for the carrier. Meaning they are sim unlocked, bootloader unlockable et ESIM ready. Verizon even on Pixel 3a had the ESIM removed or disabled. again. Do not buy from Verizon.
Best buy Unlocked, B&H video....are OK I will find out as soon as I pick mine from tmobile and will update this post.

Please do. I'm anxious to pull the trigger today on a couple of Pixels from T-Mobile but won't if the bootloader is locked.
I purchased the 3a XL at Best Buy and was able to unlock the bootloader. Works fine on T-Mobile. Plus, BB gave me a $100 gift card with the purchase.

Yes it's unlock-able just buy the carrier unlocked model not the Verizon one. Best Buy now sells all 4 models in the unlocked version.

Each carrier (AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, and Sprint) all have a Pixel variant now so as long as the carrier supports Wi-Fi calling on a BYOD phone it should work for the major carriers.
I'm wondering if the AT&t T-Mobile Sprint very in school out for bootloader unlock or if they're going the same way as Verizon with it not being unlockable I prefer just to buy it from the Google store and get the unlocked one but Best buy has it for $100 cheaper if you activate it through them Even the unlocked one so I don't know how that works.
I have the Tmo one. I see that damn unlock app in my drawer and sure enough, it's locked to the network. :/

I just asked B&H about their listing and according to the B&H rep.. LTE Band 71 is missing on the B&H model. Does not make sense but that is what they told me and it is on the question and answer page. So if you are going to use T-Mobile avoid this model.

The specs over on the Google store site says that band 71 is there. And I have no idea if the bootloader in unlockable? How do I check?

That would be a BB gift card. Google Store has the same $100 credit for the Google Store so I don't think that I'd say it was $100 cheaper at BB.

My main query was about the bootloader status if it's going to be like Verizon on the other carriers or if it's going to be like the unlocked from Google Which Best buy selling and yeah.

Yes, I know that. I think that has been answered in that only the Verizon model will be bl locked. But I'd still like to see a few more confirmations of it.

Of course the Verizon is locked. I'm wondering if someone can answer the variants for T-Mobile, Sprint and at&t. Unless those models are just the Google store unlocked models which would be amazing!

But is the allow oem Unlocking toggle in dev options grayed out?

Question Verizon OEM Unlock is gray

I bought my phone from Verizon and OEM Unlock is grayed out. Is there a method to make this active? Do I need to switch carriers? Do I call Verizon and ask for something specific? Am I screwed? From what I've read, I feel like I'm screwed.

So if purchased though Verizon, they lock it and throw away the key? What it i changed carriers? Even changed to Google Fi? There's nothing that can be done?

There's nothing that can be done if you purchased a Verizon model except return it if you can and get an unlocked/non-Verizon model.

Okay, thanks.
Huh, I hadn't thought of that, switching carriers and getting unlocked. I'm taking my family to T-Mobile this weekend. I just cannot afford Verizon anymore in this economy.
I had a phone unlocked previously (going from T-Mo to Verizon) and it required the device to be paid off and then a phone call to the carrier before the option was available. I'd recommend a quick call/chat with Verizon, I'm pretty sure there is no reason you can't unlock the device as long as it is paid off.
Verizon does not link their SIM unlocks to OEM unlocks. There is no conversation to have with them.

What @LLStarks said. Verizon devices simply cannot be bootloader unlocked.
