first of all...you'll need a rooted device and root explorer. go to /system by root explorer. you'll find build.prop file. change the system to rw. long press build.prop, open in text editor. you'll find these script
Code:
# begin build properties
# autogenerated by buildinfo.sh
ro.build.id=GINGERBREAD
ro.build.display.id=KUROTSUGI-rep.V4 --> this is the rom name
ro.build.version.incremental=DXLB1
ro.build.version.sdk=10
ro.build.version.codename=REL
ro.build.version.release=2.3.6 --> this is the rom version
ro.build.date=Fri Feb 3 13:52:03 KST 2012
ro.build.date.utc=1328244723

ro.product.board=totoro
ro.product.cpu.abi=armeabi
ro.product.manufacturer=samsung
ro.product.locale.language=en

be carefull, build.prop is a sensitive file. any mistake in modifying it will cause bootloop. and btw, there's no such as kelly bean in android device (lol)

Thanks

if you want to change the background you should recompile systemUI.apk. for ICS style, you can follow chamatht post in theme and app section.

So how to flash this?
odin 1.7? right?
put Tab in Download mode
connect to PC
and than???
What to put where?
PS: using an EU Tab, german unbranded originally (DBT)
at the moment: GB pre-rootet russian version 1.1 at the moment.

Yes. Flash using Odin3 v1.7 with single file as PDA without repartition.
This firmware doesn't wipe your internal memory.
All will be fine!
It for GSM GT-P1000 ?
Where do I find root for this ROM ?
This is a cdma rom isn't it? That means no flashing on GSM tabs ? Worth confirming!

Well, confirmed working with Telstra tab
Found: blue border when scrolled to the end, feel smoother transition between pages in the app drawer, smaller icons in app drawers, new lock screen (not exactly same as honeycomb), dialer is smoother and usable. Battery use is more ACCURATE now (battery use of the display is higher than others)
still slow to open favorite in stock browser, no animation when rotating.
Generally, happy to have updated

Flash again, but with pit and repartition.
so I suppose this is European firmware? will this work over Asian firmware DXJPI... if I flash this without flashing .pit file, this will not wipe internal sdcard, right?
Just wondering if internet calling is enabled in call setting. can anyone confirm?
tried this and loving it... hopefully an Asian update will be released pretty soon...

I would like to "convert" in a Motorola Milestone 2 to buy some Gameloft games in Market (in special for the 10 million promo). What changes must I do?
Thx.
P.S: WTF, Milestone 2 is not supported. Anyone knows how to buy apps not supported? I still interested in change my phone model
U can either change the product model &/or download market enabler for the android market

Any example that allows me to buy Backstab HD and doesn't brick my phone?
Motorola droid x & samsung galaxy s are supported for back stab... & i think motorola defy can play samsung galaxy s games not sure abt droid x...
Oh! Games dont brick phones as far as i know
Sent from my MB526 using XDA App
I know that games maybe don't brick my Defy, but a bad edition of buil.prop I'm sure that at least will force me to reinstall my rom.
Can anyone help me? Can I "convert" my Defy in a Samsung Galaxy S for market? How do I it?
Thats true but changing ur brand or model on in the build prop file, wont brick ur fone... Many ppl do this as well, alter their build prop brand & model to either buy, install or download extra data for a game. Then simply restore their backed up build prop file

thx. i need it.
I want to buy Backstab too, but have not been able to fake another phone model.
It worked when I changed from mb526 to 525 so Asphalt would work, but so far no luck with the change to SG S
Anyone know what to change?
Ps. you could still make a flasheable .zip, only with the build.prop. Just in case anything goes wrong

SGS is not supported for Backstab.
How do I that flasheable zip?
Well, change build.prop has broken my rom, re-flashing again.
P.S: I did an update.zip with build.prop (\system\build.prop) but recovery didn't recognise it as an update. I tried to make a file bigger with more dirs, but it bricked my phone (before I did wipes, etc). I tried to come back to my original Vodafone firmware, it seemed to work but the phone beggin a bootloop. I did Power + voldown and then voldown+volup, wipe factory and it seems to work again.

There are a few proper ways to make a flasheable CWM .zip, just search in google
I did the really dirty cheap way tho lol, took a working .ZIP that only installed a file on /system, removed that app and just added an untouched build.prop using WinRAR.

Flash in recovery? Or odin?
Sent from my SGH-T989D using xda premium
I assume this is just stock and if I install it, it will unroot my phone?
It should only unroot if you used Kies like I did. If you use ODIN or CWM, it should not undo root. If it does, re-install CWM and install the latest SU 3.0.7 (I believe) from the internal flash. I've already been debloating the 4.0.3 with root explorer and it only took me 15 min max after ICS was done installing via KIES.
anyone tried it?
Im guessing this is for odin right?

Not thread jacking but the odin file i posted in development has been tested by me and at least 3 other people and is working.
Couldn't tell from reading the thread, is this a flashable zip or one extracts it to flash a Odin tar?

Is this the same ROM that's on SamFirmware?
http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=8&view=5459
This rom is awesome. fast,stable and low battery drained. If there are more customized functions, this rom is the best.
Looks great! I'm about to try. Thank you!
Have to change suffix name to .tar.
I' d up with .md5 but my tab couldn't login into home.
Always reboot and back to downloading.
I opened file and into md5 file has not such as pit file.
And I changed to tar file and saw them.
But couldn't login into home.
I hard reboot and it's OK!
Maybe you have to change to tar file.
sr my bad E.

Will post a superuser zip tonight.
DO NOT FLASH YET IF YOU NEED ROOT!
I really want to try it, but i am affraid of bricking my device!
I'm literally on the other side of the world right now and cannot afford to take the risk. And I've got the Rogers' version, so it might backfire if it does some kind of strict device ID checking(even if there is no hardware difference!).
I can say the download seems legit/safe. No viruses and when you run it you get an Odin-like interface! So excited, wish I could take the plunge...!
HELL YEAH!
Tested working so far:
- GSM Network (Germany)
- Edge
- Wifi
- Camera
- Audio
See this thread for a full list of the things i've tested so far: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=30184848&postcount=17

So far there are no issues.
I'm connected to my wifi, downloaded some updates from play store, successfully sent an sms. for some other tests see my post above.

Excellent, looking forward to installing this tonight.
I'm about to try. Thank you!
The only thing holding me back is lack of root. I can't wait.

Just a question for those who have flashed
Is it touchwiz 4 or UX ( the tw that comes on the gsiii?)
Hopefully this is all dman needs to get stock aosp... or better yet my favorite on my gsiii aokp

If it helps, I could flash this leak, and then make a back-up using CWM and provide it somehow? Could the drivers be pulled from that? Just let me know!
