So, I broke my Kindle... - Kindle Fire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was soldering a wire onto the motherboard and then I accidentally burned my finger(That's what I get for working on it when I should have been sleeping). The motherboard went tumbling to the floor. Instead of just hitting the floor it decides to hit the leg of my table(it has a foot on the leg) and it cracked a little piece to the right of the battery plugin. Needless to say my motherboard is kaput. Also needless to say i'm kinda upset and I am in need of a new motherboard. I'm searching for a cheap broken Fire on eBay, but while i'm looking I figured i'd ask if anyone has a spare motherboard or a broken Fire that they'd be willing to sell to me for a reasonable price(Or you can donate it if you really want lulz).
Also, if anyone is interested I can mark off the piece that got cracked on ifixit's pic of the motherboard and explain what happened after it broke in more detail.

Thanks, but I can get a broken Fire on eBay for $50 or $60 and take the motherboard out of that, and then i'll also have the rest to sell as parts, so my cost in the end will prob be around $20 or so, or even less if i'm lucky.
Plus, the deal is expired already lol.

Lol.
And thanks, but like I said in my previous post getting one off of eBay still seems like a better deal, I like the idea of having extra parts to sell or keep in case I need them.
And, yeah, they're out of stock lol.

I found a used kindle fire for 130 on craigslist. If you are in a big city, I would just keep my eye there.
You might spot something on ebay as well, I see buy it now for as low as 140.

I'm not looking for a completely working one, I just need one with say a broken LCD and digitizer or some other issue. And there's a mint condition one up for $90 here, and tons of others for $125. The $90 one is a good deal, but I bought mine broken offa ebay for $60, so that's what i'm looking for.

Thanks for the support guys. Just got one on eBay for $47

[Q] Replacement screen?

Hi,
The LCD on my Archos 101 Gen8 is cracked. Is there a place I can get a replacement? I've searched the internet and the two places I found cost more than half the price of the tablet itself.
Thanks in advance.
Well, here's the unfortunate news. Replacing the screen might not be the only thing you have to do. The digitizer (the thing that lets the tablet know which part of the screen is being touched) could also be broken. My Archos 70it was dropped from a 2 story ledge and in no way was that covered under warranty. It cost me $187 to get Archos to fix the screen+digitizer. Although they didn't actually fix it, they just sent me a brand new completely sealed unit. Which I think was pretty nice of them.
The unfortunate truth with most technology like tablets is that individual parts are so ridiculously expensive. It's a supply and demand thing I'm sure.
I hope you can get this all worked out.
EDIT: Also, when they talked to me about replacement they said they could either fix it for $187, or give me 20% off anything (Gen 8 and below) in the Archos store. So that's another option if you maybe want to downgrade to a smaller/cheaper unit.

Thanks for the info. The digitizer is intact, it's the actual LCD that's cracked. I only use the tablet for web browsing, so I could downgrade in terms of specs, but not screen size.
Again, thanks.

With Archos, it is ridiculously hard to find replacement items. If you find a solution, possibly post it here? Not for me, but I'm sure many people would like to know how to solve it.

They have 30-pin and 40-pin variants and I'm not sure which one fits the Gen8. Emailing them was useless as the only model no. of the back of the screen they have no idea about.

cracked screen

Hey guys I thought I would post this link incase someone cracked or broke their screen....
http://www.repairsuniverse.com/amazon-kindle-fire-tablet-replacement-parts-screens.html
Have fun..
The Almighty Kindle Fire does not crack screens.
I have seen cracked kindle fire screens...
Amazon will exchange dropped Kindles for refurbished or new ones. Economically speaking, it is a waste of money to buy parts that are half the price of the machine.

Just ask the idiot original poster in this Amazon Kindle Forum thread:
http://www.amazon.com/forum/kindle/...0K9VM88&cdMsgID=MxAHA8HYRG8XNR#MxAHA8HYRG8XNR
My screen cracked yesterday at some point. Pretty sure it was stepped on while in my messenger bag in class. I didn't notice till this morning when I looked at it while taking it off the wall charger. (Plugged it in in complete darkness and didn't notice)
i.imgur.com/gBIsZ.jpg < not allowed to post images with my post count I guess, just a picture of the damage.
Bummed me out, I searched around, seemed replacement screens were about 80-100 bucks, like the link above. Called Amazon, they would replace it for $100. Seems worth it to pay a little extra to Amazon to get a factory Kindle rather than worry about doing it myself.
Just my two cents, but this came all of 4 days before I leave the country and well over 12 hours of flights and layovers. Guess I'll bring my hard copy books instead...
Ebay
I have found that ebay is a good place to look for digitizer replacements they are 50 plus free shipping. they take about three weeks though to be delivered. thats the only downfall.
It's pretty difficult to break Gorilla glass. I've dropped my Kindle (by accident of course) on the screen and no scratches.

Replacing Front Screen on GN2

Ok so here's the situation. I cracked my screen today on the front of my device because I did not have a case, Yes I know I'm stupid for not having one. The cracks are medium to bad and are extremely distracting from the device. I have sprint's bull**** insurance, but they want 200 dollars for a replacement device which I think is crap. Could one of you please point me to a place where I can just replace the front glass on my own.
Thanks!
So giving you a $700 device for $200 cuz you're clumsy is BS? Its gonna cost you $200+ to replace the screen as the glass is fused to the digitizer and lcd as one assembly.
I like to break stuff!

Matter of fact heres the cheapest you'll find $190 shipped anywhere else is $250-300+

When they are charging me over 200 dollars a year yes it is! I've been looking around but from what people have been saying this is one of the hardest devices to replace so looks like I'm out of luck on replacing it myself

Yikes, post some pictures if you're successful! (Or unsuccessful, I'm sure some knowledge would help everyone here.)
I know from multiple experiences, screen replacement is not my forte! Fudged 2, fixed one. Meh.
Paying the deductible through Asurion may be the cheapest route. Asurion is going to replace it with a brand new Note, not a recon so it may be worth it.

Anyone Need S3 (non-lte T999) for parts

I bought an S3 to repair, but got an S4 instead. I messed up replacing the glass, so the digitizer doesn't work. The LCD works fine, and the rest of the device works well, but is heavily scarred. If someone is looking for a mainboard or something, PM me. I'd rather sell or possibly donate to someone on this community than give money to fleabay.
I have the phone (white), two batteries that have good charge still, and blue replacement glass. I may be willing to separate pieces, including parting out the phone.

Mind telling how you messed up the digitizer? I'm about to replace the glass on my S3 also and would like to minimize the chance of screwing up.
Thanks!
How much would you sell me a battery, mine is horrible can't even stay on for more than 3hrs and I also need the headphone jack piece, on mine I can only hear through one side
Please take further discussion to PM

screen replacement

Can anyone guide me from where i should replace my s9 screen which got cracked accidentally.. or how much its gonna cost me in india..
I did try in service center where they told me around 16000 rs... So should I replace the screen or should I leave it or buy a new phone... Any suggestions will be very helpful...
If you don't mind a bit of work you can replace just the glass fairly cheaply provided you're careful not to damage the display:
https://youtu.be/67TvQWQs-48
The entire display assembly costs ten times as much as just the glass (as much as the phone itself) so you really need to be careful.
Years ago I ordered front & back glass to repair a Nexus 5 but failed dismally when I cracked the display while prying the brown glass off.
Watch the video & see what you think, if you can sell it a new phone might be easier, good luck!

probably not worth it unless you know someone who can give you a deal. maybe look at some mid-ship phones as a replacement as the cost to repair is going to be prohibitive.
