So I took the dive on donate version of ROM Manager, but I can't do anything with it because it doesn't recognize that I've already got CWM 5.0.2.7 installed. I don't want to use it to push another phone's 5.0.2.7 CWM image, right? Trying to go from Osimood to Inc3ption ROM, really want to do a good solid ROM backup before going through all that pain...
Thanks in advance

>_> ROM Manager isn't compatible with our phones iirc. It's not even compatible with Cappy Gingerbread update..
just use the back up in CWM... hasnt failed me yet and have been doin it just testing everything out

After you root and install ROM manager, how do you flash the ROMS. i mean i know the steps but i must be doing something wrong. Here is what I'm doing.
i have a mesmerize by the way.
1. Open Rom Manager
2. Install ROM from SD Card
Do i need to Flash ClockworkMod Recovery first?
Any help would be very greatly appreciated ...i might even name my first born after you.
and if you can tell be where i can get custom battery, and Wifi ROMS for the mesmerize i may even name my second after you also.
Yes, you will need a custom recovery to flash a custom ROM. CWM or Amon_Ra flashed through Rom Manager will do the trick. Once you have the recovery sorted you can/should do a backup of your current setup. Again, this can be done from Rom Manager.
Now you can move on to flashing a custom ROM.
I'm having a problem getting the Roms installed, cwm says something about edifying. i have cwm 3.0.0.8. i went back and downgraded my ROM manager to 2.5.0.7 but my cwm is still 3.0.0.8.

There is a section in Rom Manager with older versions of CWM. It's that you want, not an older version of RM.
it would probably be easier to boot into recovery and install your custom rom from there. The method to get into recovery is different for each phone though.
Remember to wipe before installing a custom rom tho.

I've looked for the older versions of CWM in RM but cant seem to find them. What are they under? Sorry if I'm being a bother.
Before I get ravaged, I have wandered from thread to thread to thread trying to find answers and unfortunately, everyone's got a different situation, so I'll try and sum it up here.
I have an Epic 4G that I threw the Samsung/Sprint Froyo ROM on as soon as it as available, after which I rooted it, installed CWM 2.5 and called it a day. I've been wanting to upgrade to Gingerbread, but the official EI22 ROM is obviously giving me issues because of root, so I decide, hey, I can try adding on some other ROMs and finally get into this thing.
Now somewhere amongst all this, I have CWM 5.0 installed and my phone is running both older and newer versions and only 5.0 is letting me restore in case I screw up.
So I grab the Gingerbread restore and after wiping my data, restore it. Gets stuck on Samsung logo. Try this a few times, give up, reload my original Froyo image (only after coaxing CWM to load up 5.0 instead of 2.5). Try again tonight with ACS ICS ROM and 2.5, still stuck at Samsung logo. Wipe and try again, same thing.
So my question is: A) would it be better to go back to Odin and try again despite a stable Froyo image, B) how can I eliminate one of these CWMs, C) has anyone else had these issues?
seems like you did a whole bunch of things... probably best to start clean.. odin to stock froyo. then you probably want to root it from there. after that, you can flash the latest cwm, then latest gingerbread rom
when you installed cwm5, did u flash through rom manager or through recovery?
I honestly just downloaded CWM from Marketplace and I found out how I was able to access it: it's a zip in my Clockwork folder. Once I "install" that, it loads into 5.0 and that's how I've been able to work, but it never updates CWM, I have to keep having to boot into it from the zip.
well u have cwm2,5 u said... try booting into cw, (three fingers) and flash the zip. but maybe you can try downloading cwm from the official cwm thread and flash that zip just to be sure
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1357655
Yeah, every time I try to flash that ZIP, it just opens up 5.0 instead. I'll have to try doing it from scratch.
isnt that what u want??? 5.x.x.x??

Yeah, definitely.
Okay, Odin'ed back to stock Froyo and rooted, loaded on ACS Recovery. This whole process has killed my battery, so I'm going to recharge before trying to load up a new ROM. It seems like it should be easy from here on out...
You should just start over with a fresh install.
Here are the steps. I made this list before CWM 5 was released, but you can get the CWM 5 ODIN .tar file from that thread which was linked a few posts up.

Yeah I ODINed back with ACS Recovery and now I'm running ACS ICS, which is sooooooo awesome. I think I was afraid about having to ODIN back to stock and losing everything. Now I should still have the Froyo image on there, can't I just run between this new one and that?
Thanks, all!
What do you mean by you have acs ics and still have the froyo image?? are you dual booting
Acs ics = rom.

Does he mean the wallpaper?
Rom Manager doesn't seem to know that I've got CWM installed. When I rooted and installed CWM I didn't do it through Rom Manager originally. Now CWM won't let me use it to manage my backups and keeps asking me if I want to install CWM? I've got Google Wallet installed so I'm a little nervous flashing things needlessly.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
edit: CWM v5.5.0.4
do you try "wipe cache" and "advanced->wipe dalvik cache?"
Thanks, I just tried, it took quite a while to clear the cache. When I booted up it went through a whole Optimizing Apps process, I'm not sure if that was due to wiping the dalvik cache? But it still didn't fix the Rom Manager issue.
Its probably not yet compatible if you have the touch version of cwm installed, so it wants to flash the standard one. Or you could always just let rom manager just reflash cwm overtop and then you may be good to go.

Maybe it can't detect it? I know we had to set which CWM version we had installed on the SGS.
Maybe try to run the install?

I don't have the touch version installed (doesn't seem to be the touch version anyway). I should have said this in the first post but it CWM v5.5.0.4.

Flashing CWM over CWM shouldn't wipe my phone right? It's only the stock bootloader that requires a full wipe?
I installed ROM manager and then CWM via ROM manager last night and its CWM v5.5.0.2 which ROM manager thinks is the latest: perhaps it can't deal with 5.5.0.4 yet...

ah, that would probably do it...guess i'll just wait it out a little longer, thanks
I have the exact same issue as this Rom Manager refuses to see I have CWM installed so just keeps telling me I need to install it it also can't download and flash its own version and just freezes after download
So any updates on this or more users experiencing it ?
I think I've found the solution. In ROM Manager tap the menu button at the top and then tap Manual Flash Override. Next it'll ask you if you've flashed CWM manually so tap OK because that's what we've done. Next pick which GN you have and then choose CWM 3.x+. There you have it, it should work now.
Don't use ROM Manager - problem solved!!
Seriously, though, it's a TERRIBLE piece of software
I'm fairly new to using it but it seems decent, why is it so terrible? I had an eris before this and did everything manually through recovery, this seems like it's a lot better than that.
It's just more trouble than it's worth. Why not just manually flash CWM using fastboot and get your head around that as opposed to an app which can - frankly - break things?
Flashing it via fastboot is what causes the above issue. Since you flash it manually rom manager can't see it, that's why I posted the above steps to kind of "force" rom manager to see the manually installed version.
But if you're not using ROM Manager then what's the issue? Copy ROM to SD card, reboot to recovery, flash ROM...where is ROM Manager needed in that equation?
If you're not using it then there is no issue, but this thread isn't about using it or not, it's about getting it to work with the galaxy nexus when you manually flash CWM.
I like it for the backup and restore feature and being able to change the names used to backup
I converted my Legendary 2.2 backup to MTD, and it's been running pretty smoothely. But today... I tried to backup my ROM from rom manager and I got an error, when it was backing up the boot img. It backs up just fine if I back it up directly from recovery, but I noticed that inside the backup folder, all the files I had to rename from ext4 extensions to yaffs2 are just image files now. Sooo, I'm a bit unsure the backup will work if I try to restore them and I'm a bit sketched to try it out.
Can anyone help me out with what's going on here?

Did you change ROM Manager for MTD use? There was lots of posts about this. You need to hit menu in ROM Manager, pick Manual Flash Overide, Epic-MTD and clockwork 3.x.x.x. The CWM installed when you converted to MTD is special and needs to be the only one used. Do not flash another recovery while on MTD. If you do you will have to convert again to get it.
I have not changed ROM Manager for MTD use. Someone told me to convert it, but when I click Manual Flash Override, it asks me if I'm having trouble flashing the recovery with rom manager, but whether I click ok or cancel, it doesn't really do anything. I don't see anything about MTD in rom manager.

You are supposed to click OK and a screen will pop right up with 3 Epic choices. Pick Epic-MTD and the clockwork 3.x.x.x then it will use the correct MTD clockwork installed. If this don't work your ROM Manager is bad. Uninstall and reinstall. If you still can't get it working you will have to not use it and 3 finger to CWM.

Thank You very much Sir KennyGlass123.
I had this same dreaded error backing up the boot img when I upgrade to CM9 Beta 3 and used Rom Mananger 5.0.0.7 BackUp Rom option in app then it would reboot to CMW 5.0.2.7 and fail to do a backup.
The only way I was avoiding this error was to do a reboot to recovery in power options or do the 3 finger CMW then back Up would work ok. But I was annoyed about this error and how before in early FC09 & EL30 roms I had not experienced this.
I recently was with CleanGB 1.1.2 BML Rom but decided to go for MTD format. I flashed the CleanGB 1.1.2 MTD rom then tried out a bunch of other great epic 4g MTD roms while backing each before installing another and finally landed to CM9. After updating kernel and updating to CM9 pre4 I started to backup my CM9 b3 and found out I was herbed.
Not until I read your posts and followed your recommendations that it totally fixed this error in Rom Mananger. Now I have both ways to back up my current rom either using Rom Manager Back Up Rom option that kicks me to CMW or 3 finger salute, lol...
XDA is the gift that keeps on giving...
Thank You for xmas everyday with new roms and themes and great info.
Lanboy =)
So I'm on froyo but trying to upgrade to gingerbread CleanGB Rom. I'm already rooted and I flashed clockwork mod from Rom manager. If i try to make a backup, or flash the rom, everything fails, soemthing about not mounting in clockwork mod. What's wrong? (Not experienced with Epic 4G). How can i get the recovery working normally?
Redo the one click and make your backup from a 3 finger salute into CWM. Sounds like ROM Manager is broken for you. Update from 3 finger into CWM and then you should be able to get ROM Manager working. There are things you have to do if you are going to MTD to get ROM Manager working. But first let's get you to Gingerbread.
You need cwm5. I would Odin to stock and retry.
