Is it possible to develop:
1. HomeBrew PDF viewer with sending PDF instead the Adobe's Reader ?
2. HomeBrew PDF sender which access to Isolated Storage of Adobe's Reader ?
Thanks for info.
1. Yes of course but it's really hard and complex task. Also, you can't assign your viewer as a default PDF viewer.
2. No for regular MP apps (you can't access someone else sandbox), but very possible for interop-unlocked handset.

question 1:
Yes, but I think is really difficult.
To associate PDF extension with your app you have to change registry keys on device (HKCR\.pdf sends you to HKCR\PDFFile that contains the appId to use to open pdfs), but on unlocked device only

Yes, that's why I wrote that I want HOMEBREW APP not official.
"You want" or "you want to write app"? If first - you may forget about it The only hope - if someone will port that project http://sourceforge.net/projects/clown/ to WP7 SL.
You can always replicate the existing adobe reader app, than by using reflector copy the code, than modify it according your needs.
The reading part is being done by some dll which you can use.
Now instead of rerouting the pdfs to a different folder just use the same app ID and overwrite the official app. Now all pdfs end up in your custom build pdf reader.
Good luck

or hoping that there is an usable user control in Adobe Reader's DLL
On unlocked devices the following could be done:
a homebrew app which syncs the isolated storage folder of the Adope Reader with the My Documents folder (manual sync and maybe a background task which syncs both folder in a predefined interval). This would give us the possibility to send .pdf´s via email or upload them to skydrive via the Office Hub.
Atm I copy my pdf´s with a filebrowser to the MyDocuments folder and all works fine but it would be nice to have an app which could make life easier.
I´m not able to write such an app but I know that it´s possible.

1. Do this apps allow to switch as be default PDF reader ?
2. Do this apps allow to send PDF files via email ?
If not both of them why do you put it here ?

Hi!
Just a sidenote:
Adobe Reader for WP7 sucks as it lacks the reflow option which is quite useful for reading documents on little displays. If someone starts to develop please keep in mind this function.

All those Marketplace apps are crap because they don´t replace the original pdf-reader.
Currently there is no app which can do what you want. The only solution is a homebrew app.

Yes, does somoone create homebrew pdf app which can:
1. Send Pdf via email
2. Be the default pdf app
Uhm, you could get the .xap of the original Adobe Reader app, and decompile it. Then you could add the functions you need to the officially app. It sould not be that complicated but some annoying work, I guess...
did you try the PDF Move app?

Hey,
Is there an epub reader for free?
I have emailed an epub file to myself, and I also have a direct link (through FileDen.com).
I also downloaded the epub file of my comûter using HomePipe.
Is there an app that can open the epub file?
freda is a free ereader:
http://www.turnipsoft.co.uk/jim/freda/index.htm
I have it, but it can't open links.
It has presets of Project Gutenberg etc.
I don't think there's a way to enter your own URL

This will be improved in the next release (a week or two, if I can deal with some performance issues) - there will be a general purpose "download from any website" feature, so you won't have to put your books into an OPDS catalog before you can get them onto your phone.
You will have to publish them onto a web site though. But that could be something you do only temporarily, while transferring them onto the phone. And of course you can do it just within your own home network, and using a simple web server installed on your PC to do it. When I publish the Freda update, I will also publish a link to a suitable web server program.
I seriously hope this feature is there soon.
Because I really need that ereader for school.
On 17/12 I have a dutch exam and I need to be able to read my book on my phone because the original copy is rented by someone else.
So I have the epub file of it but no ereader.
I was browsing the marketplace recently and there's a reader for epub/html/plaintext that syncs files with Dropbox. Don't remember what it was called though.
Thats ezReader, but it isn't free

Yes, if you want to put your books on SkyDrive or DropBox, the forthcoming new release of Freda will be able to download them from the web interface (but only if you put them in the 'public' area, because Windows Phone 7 has some hard-to-fix issues around website authentication, passwords, cookies, etc.).
The Freda version that's on Marketplace at the moment is only able to get your books from Skydrive or DropBox if you construct an OPDS catalog containing links to the books (for DropBox, you can use the calibre2opds program to do that).
The 'web server' solution I mention would be for the case where you have your books stored on your PC and don't want to upload them onto a 'cloud' solution on the internet. In that case, you'd want to run a webserver program on your PC, which would allow Freda to see the books on your PC's disk, via your local WiFi network. Actually, if you're prepared to run Calibre (and the Calibre content server) on your PC, that solution already works just fine. So the 'web server' approach is only for people who, for whatever reason, do not want to run Calibre on their PC.

You don't need an account to run Calibre. You just have to download and install the program.
I can't open a .epub which contains pictures. My epub file amounts to 88mb I tried to open it in my pc and it works. I had it downloaded to my freda (free edition) after I uploaded the ebook on a hosting server.
Is there another ebook reader that can read large file? Thanks!
I use Freda and Skydrive and it works great; it's slow at first but after it syncs it works okay. You have to tell skydrive to make it public or it will not show up.

88mb is going to be a bit of a stretch for any program on Windows Phone 7, since:
The file is compressed; uncompressed it will be larger
Programs on WP7 are prevented from using more than 100MB of memory
Freda doesn't actually need to hold all the images in memory at once, so that isn't a hard limit ... but it does suggest that memory usage might be the problem.
If you'd like to send me a link to the book (to [email protected]) I can run some tests and see if I can come up with any suggestions.
I am aware it's an old thread, but I am reviving it to let everyone know there is a way to get your books onto your WP7.

My problem was to copy a pdf-file to my phone and after some research, I figured out that the only way to do this, is to email me this file. I think this is pretty awkward and I found an easier way to do this.
If you have a dropbox-account just move the file to your dropbox-folder on your pc, then install a dropbox-client on your phone. now you can access every file that's in the dropbox-folder from your phone... problem solved
If you're new to dropbox, I would appreciate it if you use my refferal-link so that both of us get 250MB extra free space.
Here's my referral-link: http://db.tt/OV3ERGB
Why not just use your free Skydrive? That's what I do, then navigate to your Skydrive on your phone (pin the link to your start screen for ease) and click the file's icon and it will download to your phone.
No need to use dropbox at all.

I use dropbox too.
I think it easier because it has a Dropbox client for PC and WP7 (with app "Boxfiles for dropbox"), no need to create internet shortcut on my phone.
Why not Skydrive? Because it doesn't work half as well with either Windows or Windows Phone.
Unlike Dropbox, I can't just map my cloud storage to a folder easily on my PC.
And on my phone it doesn't let me download some files (funnily, Microsoft Office files). It shows presentations as web docs and there's no download link in default mobile view. I need to switch to desktop view which is unbearably slow.
This is plain ridiculous.

Hey
I was trying to find a way to store some photos on skydrive that i didant want showing up on my phone (photos of my gf ) I could not seem to find an option within WP7 or on the skydrive site regarding permissions but i came up with a little trick. If you create a new folder on skydrive and place a picture in it, it automatically becomes a picture folder and is synced with WP7 with is rather annoying.
To get around this place the picture in the folder and then create a random word document in the same folder, click on the folder then click on information on the right hand drive of skydrive and change it to documents. Your folder will no longer appear in the pictures hub and you can still access from Office skydrive hub which will simply link you to the skydrive webpage. Hope some of you find this helpful.
Where is the link to the SkyDrive folder ?
Skydrive is not convenient at all.
When will there be a Skydrive app on WP7 ??? I wonder.
For the moment I'm staying with Dropbox + Kickbox
Anyway, thanks for this tip
SkyDrive is handled on WP7 via the Office Hub. Open that, and go to "Locations" and SkyDrive should be there (if you set up a Live account, of course). If not, you may need to add the URL to it. But it'll work. You can also pin it to your Start if you wish, for quicker access.

Aren't all pictures and documents you upload from your phone publicly viewable by default? Or does adding a document somehow make it available to you only?
Seems there's no way to change permissions via the WP7 Office hub.
I think wp7 ask u about your privacy choice when uploading to skydrive, can choose between anyone and only you...can also give permission to one contact especially...that's realy confortable.

Just want to share a desktop tool I build which can upload Office files to Office Hub based on Heathcliff74's work.
Steps to use:Extract all files and run the EXE file.
1. Connect
2. Go to office tab
3. Click the upload button. Select office files you want to upload
4. The file will appear in Office hub on the phone. You may need to close Office hub by "Back" key to refresh the view.
One interesting thing I notice is that we can also deploy PDF files to My Documents and Office Hub will recognize it and assign a red color for PDF files. Office Hub will even launch Adobe Reader. Unfortunately, Adobe Reader does not have access permission to My Document and will return an error.
What could that mean? MS planned to give Adobe a backdoor but Adobe failed to deliver it?
2012.01.06. Updated a new version (2.1) with PDF support. You must install Adobe Reader using XAP to make it work. Adobe Reader installed from MarketPlace won't work. You may get the XAP from http://www.mediafire.com/?848nhfde7hqsqww according to this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1317357, who provides a similiar PDF uploader application.
I'm guessing this works by installing a simple XAP file, and thus requires developer unlock (Chevron or AppHub or WindowBreak or whatever)? Just checking.
That's correct. System requirement should be: Dev Unlocked Phone, Phone SDK, Zune and .Net Framework 4.
Nice, tried it out and works perfect. Going to the frontpage

Tested the 2.1 Version on my Samsung Focus Chevron Unlocked. Works nicely including PDF Upload.
Can we get the same kind of file list for office document or is it limited by the API
Also I will suggest to use Popup notification or Progress bar to display when the file upload is completed.
The notification position is way too low and new nitrification goes under existing ones which is not very clear.
Where do I get creader?
this is awesome! With this loophole found, would there be any chance of getting access to the outlook files on the device so that an Outlook USB sync tool could be developed?
Will try it. Thanks.

CReader is a Text book reader developed by my friend. It was designed to download from skydrive. However, seems skydrive connection is not so stable. I originally developed this app so that we can download text file to CReader without the need of skydrive or internet connection. But later on, I found we can do much more. PDF and Office files are way more important.

If you want to upload PDF to my documents, in the file open dialog for Office files, you can click the file type drop down and there is an option for PDF. If you select an PDF file there, it will be uploaded to My Documents. I don't think many people want to upload to both locations.

I think Adope never responds because since 2010 there isn´t any update of the Adope reader. I would be easy to add a share option to the app but it looks like that there isn´t any interest to update the app or MS doesn´t permit it...
Dude, it worked!! I'm on a HTC Trophy with v2/v3 drivers that restricted certain reg entries and won't let WPDM or Touch explorer even see the My Documents folder. How did you do this?
Hi,
is possible to make HOMEBREW app which can access destinatation \My Documents\Zune\Content\0300\00\ and see the pictures which are in Picture HUB ?
This app should have also possiblity:
1. Edit images through programs like Photo Enhancer
2. Deleting multiple images
3. Manual Album creation
4. Share to Facebook, Twitter, Skydrive, Hotmail, Dropbox
5. Take pictures
6. Copy and Paste to Skydrive folders
Thanks for info.
You should add [REQUEST] or [IDEA] to the thread title
And I would actually LOVE an app that makes it able to organize pictures on-device. It's such an annoyance to first sync them to Zune and organizing them and then sync them back.
EDIT: I might do one myself, but if anyone knows anything about how Zune and the phone organizes pictures and videos I'd appreciate to get that info. Will look into it myself later today thou, but any help would be awesome

OK, I added [REQUEST] or [IDEA] to the title.
Well I don't know much about how Zune organizes the pictures but I know that Zune, Camera saves photo this destination
\My Documents\Zune\Content\0300\00\ and save it to some file for example 3d.jpg; 03.jpg; 39.jpg etc.
But Zune must store [ some dat file maybe in \My Documents\Zune\Content\0300\00\zunedb.dat] the real name of the picture that on computer looks like WP_000002.jpg.
It will be nice to have alternative to Picture Hub and if you will look on it it will be great.
I don't know if I help you a little bit ?
zunedb.dat work
I've been looking a bit on the zunedb.dat file in 101 Editor and the identifier or what ever it's called is ZMDB (Zune Media DataBase i think) and I could really use some help on this because this isn't really my area of expertise
Could attach a copy of the file I've been looking at if anyone is interested?
EDIT: Attached it in a zip anyway, and here is some of the information I've found so far.
The albums I've synced from my computer are these, with their respective start address in the file, or at least where the album name is in the file, and after each album name there are paths and such to the particular files, but also a lot of information that I don't know what it is.

Maybe it could help some Microsoft developer on Microsoft forum ?
But I think that nobody research it yet.
Posted a thread over at the development forum at Microsoft, like here:
http://forums.create.msdn.com/forums/t/105185.aspx
I really hope I could get some information regarding this.
Well it's 100% that this app wil not autorization from MS but for the homebrew app its not needed.
I hope that someone share the info which you need.
Just a question:
is it possible to create an own homebrew app which will take and save photo in
folder \My Documents\Pictures + it will have features like as I wrote
1. Edit images through programs like Photo Enhancer, 2. Deleting multiple images, 3. Manual Album creation,
4. Share to Facebook, Twitter, Skydrive, Hotmail, Dropbox, 5. Take pictures, 6. Copy and Paste to Skydrive folders ?
then we dont realy need any info from MS because you can upload it to Skydrive + you cann access the phone file system via WPDM or WMDC/ActiveSync launcher if zou have phone unlock etc.
What do you think ?
Thanks for info.
R,
Marek
Well, it's possible. There are other apps doing everything of that, except the saving location, so I doubt there would be any problems.
The reason for my app and what it does is that it enables you to organize the photos, add/delete/rename albums shown in the Pictures Hub, and move photos between these albums.
AND if zunedb.dat is "worked out" it will also enable us to add music and videos to the Zune app, which means if you use any Music Downloader, you could add them to the regular player, instead of having to open that particular music app to play them.
I hope you see why I think this really is something worth investigating.
Regards
Izaac
Yes, you are right, it's worth for investigating.
So lets hope that we will have good luck.
Do you know which apps can do the things like iwrote in previous comment?
Thanks.
I think there's an application called Private Hub that does most of it, not sure thou.
It will also enable you to password protect certain images/albums (in app ONLY)
Regards
Izaac
