[Q] Dish Network Sling Box on rooted KF CM9 ROM ? - Kindle Fire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Has anyone gotten The Dish Networks ( Sling box ) to work on KF rooted CM9 ROM. I got netflix working, but not Sling Box. I am not talking about the original Sling Box and the app that cost $30. I am talking about the new Sling Box that works with the Hopper and DIsh Network. There is an app called DISH (not the one for $30). It works on my Nook and on my CM9 G2x phone, but not on KF.
Cheers

Dish app worked out of the box, including slingbox, when I installed the Feb 24 build of CM9 posted here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1411895, and latest gapps posted there as well.

What happened to the Netflix app?

I was about to watch something on my Netflix app and it says there is an update for it that I need to stream. The it says item not found. So I can't stream Netflix. I also went on the market and it appears they took it off. Does anyone know what's going on?
-shrugs- I don't know...I'm streaming it right now. Did it to test it.
See the link below:

Netflix is aware that the app won't work on the Evo's with the GB update, so I would assume like any other app that isn't compatible with your software version, it disappears from the market until they make it compatible. I would have to think they will have it fixed within a day or two.
Yeah mine works but my friends doesn't. Could it have something to do with me running salvage-mod and him on stock both rooted.
I'm using it fine with GB update on my evo. Its not in the market though. I got it off one of these threads. Sorry I forgot which one otherwise I'd post the link.
I am running the deck gingerbread rom and mine doesn't work either.
Hopefully they fix it soon. Weather bug is not working either.
my netflix works but im running CM7. someone else posted that netflix wont work if you use sense based roms but cm7 i a froyo framework. And i think they are right

2 KF ,One stock, One custom rom

My wifes stock KF wont connect to wifi no matter what(Im not changing the router settings anymore) , the KF I have with custom rom connects flawless , my Note , S2 ,Focus, A500 ,2 laptops .Xbox and half a dozen other devices connect no problem ,so I really dont believe the router is the fault .
Why is the stock KF having this problem ? Is this associated with a low battery, because her fire never gets above 53% ,Mine goes to 100% and holds for days !
Its really annoying that this POS does this , does anybody Know what the deal is with this?
Is the modem faulty , how can I fix this, she reads like 2-3 books a week , so its critical , she can usb to get books , but the whole thing about the kindle is getting books on the fly !
Any help would be appreciated , you devs are smart cookies in here!
Have you tried connecting to WiFi somewhere other than your home? Did it ever work? If it's under warranty just return it, not worth the headache.
it was working here at the house , and it works at hotspots , but it just stopped working here recently , ive tried changing channels all that crap on the router doesnt change a thing!
I threw in tge towel! My kindle has fff/twrp and the original amazon rom ,so I just restored that rom ,deregistered my account registered hers and she's back in business, tomorrow its back to kfu and fun stuff with her kindle and its getting rooted / fff / rom I'm not messing with amazon

well tried out her Kindle again this morning wouldnt connect to anything after reading all the bs about how and why the KF wont connect and saying how different channels work better on your network and that the routers firmware is the cause , well Im hear to tell ya its bll sht ,I immediately ran kfu on this Kindle , within 5 minutes ,I had permanent root ,FFF,TWRP and started her up and BAM ,connection !!!!! I personally believe that Amazon does like apple they use the cheapest parts on the inside , make the outside look like a million bucks and then throttle everything down to a minimum setting so that things sort of work!
My wives Kindle fire was having the same issues with wifi.
She finally got sick of it had me root it and install a custom rom. It's all software, not hardware.
I had the same issues with my previous phone a Samsung galaxy S. The wifi wouldn't turn back on, after I turned it off. The aosp cm7/9/10 never had that problem.

Yep I haven't plugged it in in 2days still fully charged and wifi hasn't bucked yet

Netflix down

FYI, just updated my FTV to the latest CMW and pre-rooted firmware. Updated Netflix and gives me error NW-4-8. I go to Netflix and they have put up a banner (after you log in) that some devices are having issues currently. I was wondering if someone running the latest firmware (the updated version) can confirm if they are having issues (after they had the latest version working)? I am wondering if I did something wrong on my install....
Thanks.
Hi im on latest pre-rooted ROM by rbox and im watching the Netflix right now no problem.
*UPDATED* I exit Netflix and re run the Netflix. Bingo they are down this time. So you aren't only one so count us in.
PS. I tested run my Verizon note 3 able run Netflix and working fine.
PSS. Now my Amazon fire tv Netflix is back online. Very ODD!
Update
Netflix was working fine for me yesterday with pre rooted rom new update. I tried this evening and it's not working at the moment. I tried checking network says all good, tried signing out and errors. Tried reinstalling Netflix still no go. Weird how it worked now it is not. Error I get is code ui-113.
Update: got to login screen seems to be working now.. very weird.
Works now... Took couple of tries.. Thanks.
Using an AFTV from Canada and using a DNS service to view other regions. It was working yesterday but now having issues (got error aip-701)
anyone else?
Most of the times these issues are from ISP throttling Netflix traffic. The banner about problems streaming to "some devices" is up more than it is down I think.
Just to chime in on this topic, the latest update/new netflix app seems to have more connectivity issues that the old one, the old one was not perfect either, but I can tell you the newest firmware/netflix gives me errors on playback or startup/logging in quite frequently, I have 3 FTV's all rooted in my house. 1 is on latest update/netflix other two are on firmware just before that one, Netflix will stop working or give errors on new firmware way way more frequently than old ones. But it always works/plays if I switch to the other one. Hopefully they fix that
I haven't had any Netflix issues since the updated latest firmware. Been watching it every day.
For me, after I entered the login details, netflix app is crashing(basically it goes back to the page where it is launched from). I have created a thread for this issue http://forum.xda-developers.com/fire-tv/help/netflix-app-crashes-login-details-t2934865

[Q] Kindle Fire HD 8.9 LiquidSmooth LTE Wifi/Cellular Issue

I have tried several Kindle HD 8.9 ROMs but LiquidSmooth is the only ROM which has a working bluetooth.
Although Bluetooth does work under this ROM, it does suffer from some connection related issues. As noted by other users, the Youtube app does not work with HD videos.. I also found an issue using the Media Browser 3 app. It seems that the device is getting confused as to what connection ( wifi/cellular ) is actually being used.
I have tried Milestone and Nightly releases, same issue. Switched to CM11 and do not experience such issues, but then there is no Bluetooth..
Unfortunately I need to use both connections (wifi and bluetooth ) for my home audio/video setup.
I have searched whole board, seems there is no working LTE (I mean LTE really works) rom for 8.9
Looks to me that the LTE version is very different with the non-LTE version. So, can we create another board
"8.9" Kindle Fire HD LTE", so that people not get confused, wasting time reading in this non-LTE board.
Thanks

That would probably be a good idea, but I personally do not think there are enough users to warrant the effort.

No need users, we need programmers
This is what hashcode said about the KF HD 8.9 LTE ..."There's a kernel / modem driver issue on the LTE models which has been giving me fits. I'm not sure anyone else has worked on it."
from this link...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2287058&page=7
I have an 8.9 LTE, but I just decided to leave it rooted with access to the Play Store. It works fine, although a bit slow at times because of the root....

Which otter rom works with Hulu?

So I just installed the latest nightly cm-11 rom found in Hashcode's thread. Everything seemed to work fine but Hulu and amazon video. Amazon video is just very slow though so I chalked that up to it being a real real old tablet.
Hulu doesn't play video at all. Outside of maybe a 2 second cartoon network sign before an episode is about to start. It just closes the app as the video is about to load.
I remember having a similar issue with a cyanogenmod rom on a nexus 7. I tried changing some of the HDCP settings in the developer settings but it still didn't work.
I noticed most of the new roms are otterx now. I rather not change to otterx since the tablet is just going to be used for hulu, youtube, plex and maybe netflix.
Just wondering if anyone can recommend an otter rom that has Hulu working?
Edit: I have tried a couple of roms they all just fail after the first boot after I install a couple of apps. All roms will eventually crash and not boot up again. If I rebooted before it crashed it would not boot up again. Not sure if that is a known problem or if this old tablet is just dying. It seemed to be working fine on the stock rom.
Just went back to the stock rom after trying like 7 otter roms. It stopped failing right away so not really sure what the problem is. Hulu didn't seem to work on any of the roms though before they failed.
