I just notice this setting, is this new?
I am looking to get a new router Friday, but were looking into done at Walmart last night and noticed they started using the 5GHz freq. Pretty cool our phone actually allows to utilize this.

Not new. I've always used mine on 5ghz Wifi N.
If you're getting a new router, make sure it's simultaneous dual band.
I have a netgear dual band router, the 5 gig band seems to have less ranges than the 2.4.

Yes it definitely will be, saw a few advertising it. I'm getting the Linksys E2500 Advanced Simultaneous Dual-Band Wireless-N Router and I will test out both freq

Correct, and less penetrating power. But, it's also not crowded with home phones, rf devices, 1000's of BT and other wifi users, etc.
If you are in range of it, you'll get better overall throughput using 5 over 2.4.
I don't see that setting option on my phone. I'm running Calkulin's GB 3.0 ROM. How are you getting to that option and what ROM are you running?

Try a different wifi channel on the router.
I think the GN supports any of the first four channels.
5GHz is disgracefully and HORRIBLY broken on the GN. Class action suit might be in order…

What I found is that the Nexus has a hard time with the 2.4 Ghz signal. I bought a nnew dual channel router and I set my Nexus to 5 Ghz only band and I get good speeds now. I know this sucks but the only work around I could find.

my router support 5Ghz but it only switch on it if its possible..In my area there is a lot networks thats why i think it is on 20Mhz - 2.4Ghz
attached all what i can set in my router.
Is there anybody who is using 802.11n only with 2.4Ghz with good speeds and with no signal droping? (sometime i can even measure speed in speedtest.net)

I get better range on 2.4 (which is to be expected), but I connect and stay connected to 5ghz as well. I get an easy 15 down 10 up on 5ghz.
hi all.
please feel free to unfold your opinions and suggestions.
What i have: rooted stock SGS3 on LH9 ( latest OTA) + Diztronic Matte Black TPU Case found on this link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1722606
Environment: I am inside a big hangar not for planes but more like a warehouse, every morning at the exact same place. there is no concrete walls or windows just the hangar structure walls and a big exit door for trucks. i am like 300 yards away from a optimum broadband router on a public street. in NJ if you are a Optimum customer you can connect via wifi up to 5 devices when in reach of routers they installed on public streets.
Issue: when i turn on wifi i have no bars for Optimum connection( it connects successfully but internet is quite impossible at very slow speed. If I take off Diztronic case I immediately get 2 bars on my wifi icon, and the connection is flawless and the speeds for any app are good.
Is this case particularly that bad for my wifi connection?
All cases in general influence the wifi connection/cell modem or just this one?
Or is it how am I holding it? Am I holding it wrong way?
Workaround: every morning I take off my case, read my Twitter, G+ and Flipboard than I put my case back on.:silly:
Thanks
I have no case on mine, but I do notice if I am kinda far from the router and hold phone with my right hand I get a worse wifi signal then when holding with left hand. Cell signal seems unaffected.

Not unheard of. HTC Inspire gps antenna was problematic with some cases
I have the same exact case and my WiFi ranfomly drops on with the diztronic case I brought for only $10 . I brought a new puregear case yesterday and never had WiFi issues since

All cases affect signal quality to a certain extent, but it's mostly negligible and a worthwhile trade-off for the protection gained. Should be fine as long as you don't use a METAL case, like some geniuses insist on using for a "premium-quality" feel (whatever that's supposed to mean).

Well, as corythug mentioned above, and despite the apple joke, you CAN get better reception by holding your phone in certain ways, since the antennas are located in certain spots (as shown in the FCC photo below):

The #1 thing to do to get better range (for at least WiFi), if you haven't done this already, is to use wireless G instead of wireless N, even though it's "slower" (you won't notice). Wireless-G's 2.4GHz longer wavelengths travel farther & through objects better than 5GHz. I almost always fallback from N to G even in my house. #2 thing to do is to buy a better WiFi router (like the Netgear WNDR3700) that lets you hack it with DDWRT so you can increase the transmit power above legal FCC limits.

I learned a lot.
I will read news every morning at the same spot, with my naked SGS3, holding it certain way.
802.11n also runs on 2.4 Ghz, not just 5 Ghz. Now, the new 802.11AC standard only runs on 5 Ghz, so no 2.4 there.
I'm planning on installing magnetic plate under the back plate (circled in red) for my car mount and I was wondering where the antennas were for LTE. I didn't want the plates to interfere
According to the full ifixit teardown they are one of the orangey-gold areas at the top, on the inside of the rear case.

Hi
Its a bit more complex than that unfortunately. The transmit cell antennas are at the bottom, this places them away from the ear. Receive antenna for cell calls are at the top along with Bluetooth, WiFi and GPS.

Phil

It says "the Wi-Fi, MIMO, and GPS antennae still reside on the rear case, along with the NFC antenna which formerly lived on its own control board. Unfortunately, those super convenient labels from the Nexus 5 have transformed into cryptic codes."
so the antennas are not near the area right under the fingerprint sensor right?

do you think sticking a metal plate under the fingerprint sensor on top of the battery is a great idea or do you think it'll affect with my lte and wifi? I don't care about NFC, I just care about my signal

Why not get an app like SignalCheck to monitor your signal strength while holding the metal piece in the spot you're considering?
Hi. Can someone tell, which antenna this leg on the motherboard goes to? (Highlighted with a red arrow on the pic)
Or point me at the data sheet for 5X. Thank you in advance!

Step 1: install Magisk module "WiFi Bonding (Qcom)"
Step 2: reboot

Isn't this setting up to the router your connecting to? I think it will be used if the router is setup for 40mhz on 2.4ghz, but you should move to 5ghz frequencies anyway.

Yeah, most routers will probably be in 20 MHz mode by default, especially in a busy area. But if you have it on 40 MHz mode then it's still not gonna use the 40 MHz because Motorola disabled it for some reason which is why this module exists and works.
And the only thing wrong with the g8 power is the lack of ****ing 5ghz wifi. It's insane, and why this is a ****ing godsend. 72 Mbps link speed and that's it? This was the only phone that wanted me to stick it back in the box and send it because it took FOREVER to download updates. It's pretty easy for me at least to tell when I finally get some damn speed in this thing lol
And earlier this month I went back to my blackberry 9900 from 2009, and it felt like the future.(because I lost the stupid sim tray like an idiot and had to order one which is working fine now that I snipped the eject tool hole on it) 5 ghz wifi on that thing, not to mention NFC! And the wifi hotspot on that thing holy ****, it's super efficient and works extremely well even though the network's only h+. In my experience with android phones turning on the hotspot has always been like you started its furnace
I'm very surprised that the G8 radio does not include 5ghz, I almost did not believe it and had to look up the tech specs as the previous G7 Power had it and my Moto G Power which is basicaly the NA version of the G8 all support 5Ghz WiFi.
For the people who actually are stuck with 2.4ghz only routers, there is the possibility applying the 40mhz configuration could cause some signal loss depending how far or behind how many walls the signal must travel through, so there is pros/cons to this modification.
Seeing as my fibre Broadband connection is 48Mbps max (limited by distance to exchange), I'm not going to have a problem with wifi perf.
Stock Moto G Power (2020) version
I don't know what version of the phone you got, but if it doesn't have 5GHz on it, you got screwed. I'm looking at mine right now and it's connected via 5GHz to my office wifi. Model XT2041-4
