Hi there everyone!
I'm just after a little bit of help here.
I've had my Desire Z for a over a year now. I did run stock but with the hassle of the "home" key delay (it was terrible!) I rooted the phone and went with a version of MIUI (can't remember which now).
I love MIUI - except its music player downloaded strange albums, is there any way to fix this? (Jamon the power of love! lol)
Anyways - I recently tried a Sense 3 rom and it's awful. Laggy, slow, and a pain to use.
I really really want a stable, easy to use, smooth (doesn't have to be fassst!) just all-round-good ROM to use as my daily driver.
I'm throwing this one out to you - Which ROM can I try?
MIUI - do I just do the MIUI.us with bulletproof add-on?
CM7.1? I've never used this - which CM version is the best DD?
Sense UI - Any out there without home button lag?
I get the feeling the Desire Z is slowly becoming a "thing of the past" but I want to squeeze life out if it! I still got another year on my current contract! lol.
Thanks so much in advance for any tips, advice, etc.
For me, CM7 is easily the fastest. Use ILWT, its the fastest cm7 ROM I've tried, and loads of customisations
Sent from my Desire Z using XDA
Agree with Taz. ILWT is the best of both worlds, as it's feature-rich and is perhaps the fastest ROM around. If you decide to go with MIUI you might want to give Strawmetal.Mi a try.
CoSign, CM7 is the most stable 7.2 is the most recent version.
Agree with everyone. Been using ILWT for awhile and just recently changed to Andromadus beta3.

Virtuous G-Lite 2.0.1 is my favorite. It is fast; doesn't drain battery or consume every available RAM. I am using the ROM with stock launcher (default is LauncherPro) and I must I am glad I did.
Sent from my Desire Z flashed Virtuous G-Lite ROM 2.0.1
Thanks everyone for your most excellent replies!
I've flashed the ILWT Cm7 rom on my Desire Z and it's been great so far, really fast with no lag. I loved the design of MIUI and Sense/Sense 3 but I think I prefer something that is usable over fancy graphics which make the phone lag.
Can I customise the status bar? I would like to change it if possible, no problem if not.
Also, any other tweaks or tips most welcome. I want to get another 12 months out of this baby!

Just a FYI. That's not CM9 beta, it's a CM9 kang, just like Andromadus Audacity is. They're both based on CM9. CM9 is still in pre-release and may never be released officially for the Vision.
Cm7 can't go wrong.

That was a bit of a bump. I think the OP has already made his choice,
but Elite is indeed a very fast and stable rom.
I realize that the thread is month old now, so OP has probably already selected a rom, but in case someone else reads this thread looking for an answer to the same question...
I'm been using the Mimicry 1.1.0 ICS rom for the past week. I've tried out all of the ICS roms for the G2/Desire Z so far and Mimicry is the first that I would recommend as a daily driver. It is running quite fast and most of the bugs and graphical glitches of other ICS roms have been worked out.
CyanogenMod 9.0.0-RC0 BETA 14 - rockzzzz
preety fast, very good battery consumption, sexy
)Hi there!
Thanks for more rom suggestions!
Also, thanks to all those who suggested roms to use, I've read the thread every time it's been updated.
Just for everyone's info, I ended up installing CM7 ILWT - it's been excellent. Fast, stable, things work - it ticks all the boxes, really, and it means I can squeeze a few more months out of my phone! Actually, it's made me rethink upgrading next year.
It's been fine for my needs and I'm no longer pulling out my hair in frustration; there's no lag, no issues with functionality, and everything is in English (rather than Chinese, like MIUI's calendar lol - also the stock player doesn't make all my album covers turn to "Jamon - The Power Of Love" too!)
I may do a nandroid backup and try some of the other suggestions. I am a little bit reluctant to try any ICS roms, I've read posts describing things as being smooth but lots of things not working properly... I may give them a try anyway and see, but I am wary. One persons buttery smooth is another persons laggingly slow. I'd prefer to do away with flashy stuff for a phone that.. um.. "just works", and fast.
Thanks.
If you prefer Gingerbread, as I previously mentioned, I would recommend G-Lite 2.0.1 but for an ICS ROM Andromadus Audacity is the only choice you can take.
I installed too many ROMS these are the one that you can use with performance.

Hey there!
I did a nandroid of CM7 ILWT, wiped and installed Mimicry 1.1.1

I'm going to keep this one and see if it stays that way, so far I'm impressed!

So I finally got my wipe to upgrade from her dumbphone to a smartphone (Droid Inc.) and I'm looking into what are the best ROMS available *if* she lets me hack her phone.
I'm new to this arena since I have a Droid X so I want to know from people's experiences what is the best ROM for the DInc? From doing a quick look through it seems like CyanogenMod 6, SkyRaider Sense or Redemptive rEVOlution might be possible candidates.
I know the CyanogenMod ROM is one of the big ones but I'd like to keep the Sense UI on her phone to make it as easy as possible to use for her (and I do like HTC's overlay.)
So any thoughts? Opinions? Suggestions?
Try out redemptive revolution 1.9. Good battery life and very stable.

I use SkyRaider 3.3.2 with LauncherPro Plus and GOTO as a lock screen and have no problems. I too love HTC Sense, just decided to play with LPP.
Heads up: There's a "General" Incredible subforum for these sorts of posts.
*make sure you know what version of the dinc she has, amoled or slcd, some roms and recovery won't work without fixes* that said redemption rom is currently my fave, otherwise virtuous rom. theres also red raven and feather but wouldn't recommend those for your wife. I believe theres a rom that sum1 made with a pink theme somewheres also but don't quote me on that. if you do any of these look for the new leaked stock kernel, has a lot better battery life and charges in half the time.

I love Cyanogen, if you're looking for Vanilla ROM this is a great choice. I'm using CM6.0.2 right now and I love it. CM6.1 RC1 should be dropping very soon, it's not 100% stable but Cyanogen himself it could be used as your daily driver

I'd stay away from the Desire HD and Z ports until the camera issues are resolved.
I'm using redemptive revolution 1.9 and loving it right now. It just got updated with new framework so its the latest and greatest in my book!
I love the Desire Z port from IncredibleDoes but some people need the camera or would like to have the cam, if that's the case try SkyRaider 3.3.2 its the best one out there for me.
Uncommon Sense
I will stick with Uncommon Sense Rom, its the most Stable free bug HTC Incredible Rom, the feels is likely Sense OEM manufacturer, I did not find any lack at all with the exception of APk Drawer little lag scrolling up. as well is the best of the two world android/Sense blended.
All the rest of the HTC Incredible Rom have several problems that have to be address and for sure Updates will be available to Roms like Sky raider and Virtuous.
Most ROMs are good, but also aren't 100% done. To be honest, if you wife uses her phone a lot and isn't a tinkerer just keep it the way it is lol.
Once camera issues are resolved the desire ports will pretty much be in a league better than any of the custom roms based on earlier sense. I would also strongly recommend miui except that many of the really useful sense widgets have no equivalent ones in aosp roms. I would recommend aosp roms only for people who are ok with constantly tinkering with their phones, not for your wife who will probably want.something that just works.
Until then redemptive, virtuous, skyraider are good choices.

I have tried a bunch of Roms and all of them have their strong points. This is all a matter of personal preference.
That being said, I would recommend Virtuous with the custom kernel or new stock kernel and here are the reasons:
1. It is very stable and fast.
2. Good battery life.
3. Nothing is removed or modded that cannot be readded or turned back on using the tools the developer provided (Virtuous Buddy).
4. Great dev support.
This is not the only Rom I use, but it is definitely the only Rom I would put on my wifes phone.

I would say virtuous or the newest leaked deoxed stock ROM... both using the newest stock kernel.
Only roms I would consider for the girlfriend....
Personally I would just do a few mods to the newest stock ROM minus the bloat.

I switch between Redemption and Redemptive Revolution.
I like Redemption with Kings BFS #5 kernel the best, amazing battery life! It just "feels" good to me.
Wow nice! Thanks for all the recommendations! I don't think I've heard of Virtuous so I'll check that one out.
Also to commenton the tinkering part, she definitely isn't into tinkering...in fact she complains when I tinker with my phone for too long LOL
Going ASOP isn't really an option since the base Android UI is lacking without some extra apps so the Sense UI is perfect for her. I do plan on (obviously) rooting the phone and setting up SetCPU but any additional improvements custom ROMS make are always nice to have.

What's everyones opinion on this? there seems to be lot of variety. I have been using leedroid for the last few months and think its great. The main reason being its a sense based rom. I have tried different launchers but always seem to revert too sense.

Maybe others also don't add new posts here, but post in the above linked thread.
Would anyone please give me the idea of its stability? I am trying to find a mod rom stable & can extend the battery life. Thank you
I'd sooner go with the 2.3d if I were you. I think that reading less than 10 last pages of the thread in question could give enough evidence to back up this statement of mine.

Same here. The only thing i disagree with is battery. GB are equally good now. I think even a little bit better when actually using the ROM (when phone is awake).
BUT, LeeDroid 2.4.1 is rock solid. All GB roms are based on TEST leak, and devs are porting stuff from sense 2.1 and 3.0 to them, which does cause few bugs here and there. It'll get there once official update is released.
I love the way Lee stayed away from porting stuff and just concentrated on optimizing existing software, adding most usefull addons you can find on xda.
LeeDroid 2.4.1 gets my vote for now, it's just to good not to use it
If you do not want Gingerbread, it is the most stable Froyo ROM, but GB has some advantages like battery RAM Management. If you will use A2SD, you may try InsertCoin Sense2.1 with GB.
+1 vote for 2.4.1
stable and smooth
skip 2.4.1 and go to LeeDRoid 3.0.x, might as well make the most of upgrading your system, and start getting used to Gingerbread!
Actually, that wasn't very helpful I guess. My bad. I've used LeeDRoiD roms pretty much since i first rooted, and I'd say they are up there with the best software you could want on your phone. They are definitely stable and pretty good on battery use. I only used 2.4.1 for a few days before i went to 3.0.2, but it was fairly solid.
Hi, please don't shout at me, I've tried a search but Tapatalk is utter useless!
I'm looking for a new rom, this time one without sense. Which kind is the fastest/most stable?
I'm not asking for a rom itself, but more of the type of rom, cm/aokp/aosp etc (are those abbreviations right?)
Thanks

I hate sense.
Been using BlackIce for months and find it quite good.
ICS roms not good for me, for now.
Try BlackIce. It's one of the best.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1298283
Or Cyanogenmod 7.2

Both are AOSP (Android Open Source Project) roms. No sense, no flashy visual effects, just speed. Perfect.
I agree with joooe. BlackIce is the best and most stable. I would never use sense.
Absolution in the inspire thread is wicked good too.

To be honest I like sense because it's 'pretty', but started to notice bits and pieces lag.
The two rooms mentioned above, are they on ics? Camera issues?

BlackIce and Absolution are not ICS, which means camera works fine and they are both very stable.
With BlackICe I have 400 mb free mem at booting. Sense takes like 300 mb! No wonder it lags.

True, true, you're right: it's pre-alpha. And I was talking about Nikez JB P10.
As a 'normal user' of P10 I am very satisfied with this ROM and I do have some experience with other ROM's (not only Sandvold). Only a few things (thing?) does not work. Also, the forum-thread of Nikez JB P10 reads (almost) same opinions - if you filter the problems with installing 3d party scripts.
Even remarks as 'worht beta' can be read.
My suggestion is user-to-user (SeeZaar), from my point-of-view as a Desire-JB P10 user.
Cheers!

for stability and speed i would heartily recommend redux2-31.08-test which is a stripped gingerbread rom which i used exclusively for over a year. it has a wicked pull-down notification bar full of custom shortcuts. very stable despite the test title.
if you're looking for an ICS flavour i'd agree with earlier recommendations for spaze dog. i found it a bit more complicated to install successfully but once up & running it's been faultless.
hope that helps.
