I acquired a Samsung Galaxy S2 for T mobile from a friend today and he said he flashed a rom for a European version of the phone or just a rom that wasn't meant for the phone. He told me before that it vibrated and stuff, but ive been tinkering wit it and havent gotten any type of vibrations or anything. I was wondering if I have a complete brick or something that I could fix and make into a win situation? Is there any steps I can do to see if it's a brick or not cause I'm not familair with this phone that much.
Look around, many others have done something similar

Chances are it's hardbricked if he flashed a ROM for the i9100 (the international version). The T989 (our phone) an the i9100 are completely different phones, they only share a name for marketing reasons. To double check that it's fully bricked, see if you can access clockworkmod recovery or download mode.
For CWM recovery, hold power + volume up + volume down until the phone vibrates, then let go of power and continue holding volume up + volume down until the recovery menu appears.
For DL mode, hold volume up + volume down while plugging the phone into your computer with a USB cable (make sure the other end is in the computer first). If you get the download mode screen, you can ODIN back to stock.
If neither of those work, your phone is hard bricked and there's essentially nothing you can do to recover it. You can always try to send it back to Samsung if it's under warranty.
So theres no way to getting out of hard bricked? i bought a usb jig but didnt get me in download mode.. i installed a 1900 rom as well and im screwed now! it connects to the computer and it reads under odin but is there anything i can do to fix this ??
if you are able to go into download mode flash stock rom with odin...

Most likely it's bricked hard.
Only repair is jtag services, there is a link somewhere about $80 to fix.
Flashing 9100 = hardbricked. If the sucker vibrates when holding power, you might have a chance by doing some sdk stuff

I bricked my phone last night trying to flash a ROM, it was stuck at the Galaxy S 2 Boot screen. I took it into Sprint today expecting them to do a full reflash of the phone, or at least exchange. They noticed I had rooted it because of the small yellow triangle that comes up when you boot, and said they didn't even have software yet to set it back to it's factory state.
The Sprint sales rep told me to come here to XDA to look for a stock recovery image and try to flash it that way, and it worked XD.

Haha. Rule of thumb with Odin is if you can get into download mode, your phones not "bricked". Shouldn't have went to sprint at all unless you couldn't access ANYTHING.
So in the future if your able to access even only Download mode, come here, not sprint.

That is an international 19300 s3 rom. Only flash roms made for the t mobile sgh-t999. There are many methods for download mode. Try pulling the battery and then hold volume down and home and power while putting battery back into phone. Then put back cover on and then plug into computer and see if Odin recognizes it even if it does not show the download mode screen. If that does not work you could buy a download mode jig. But, unfortunately, it is known that flashing international s3 roms on a US variant results in an unrecoverable brick due to the rom flashing in the wrong mount points. So consider doing a replacement.
I know the feeling, I hard bricked my last phone and had to get it replaced.

NO, NO, and NO, go to device manager, I bet there is a device that says QLOAD**, if it is there, BRICKED. You will not recover without a JTAG service. If you CAN NOT get to download mode, there is NO fix. You can continue to look for a solution that does not exist, or get it over with, either exchange it with T-Mobile (good luck), or bite the bullet with the problem YOU CREATED, and pay 60.00 of the jtag service.

I agree, I bricked my phone day 1 hr 2, CAUSE, I DID NOT READ. But I DID NOT once, even think of T-Mobile and a return, I bricked it, I paid for the service. The return service is for real problems, NOT for people who abuse the system with sh** like this. My opinion.

The phone turned off and now won't even go into recovery or anything. Just a black screen.

Seems like you should research more before flashing roms. If you find out how to fix your phone be more careful next time. If you aren't sure always ask in the Q&A section. A comment from a user can save your phone.

Yep. It was hard bricked.
I just bricked my S3 and whenever I plug it in, eventually, some combination of button presses makes a red LED show up, however, no screen on. Whats even weirder is that when I plug it in, it see's some thing called QHSUSB_DLOAD, and attempts to install drivers for it. I'm wondering if this might allow me to fix it? If all else fails, can someone refer me to a JTAG repair service...
Edit - When I attempt DL mode, I can even hear it disconnect, then reconnect. It fails the driver install though.

All I did was brought it into the store, handed it to the guy and said it was broken. Said I had a FACTORY warranty (from Samsung), and that Samsung told me to have the store do the replacement for me. The guy behind the desk said, "Yeah, whatever you stick your SIM into, as long as it's T-
Mobile, your covered. You can even buy phones offline,". It's going to be here monday. Shipped Friday, next day shipping, only 5$. I'm so happy I'm not paying 70$ for a JTAG... Not sure if this'll work for everyone, but it did for me!
Hey everyone. Thanks in advance. I have searched the forums, the web. Ended up here. I rooted my phone, added carbon rom. With goo download I think it was called. "Goo" something. Now my phone is dead. Will not boot to download mode. Will not turn on at all. The only time I can get anything response from the phone is when I pull the battery plug it in and hold the three buttons. The light stays red, but that is all. No activity from the screen. I have read the phone is "hard bricked" and that I basically need to buy a new phone. I hope that is not the case. Any help is much appreciated. Sorry if this is a repeat post, but after hours of research and no specific answers I felt this what the only way.
Thanks again!
My two suggestions...
1. Hold up (or was it down?) volume, home and power all at the same time. Until you get a reaction. Then figure it out from there
2. Your phone is done for.. Find out where the closest att service center is and say your phone screwed up during an update of theirs. Or just say your phone stopped working and hope for the best
A main question is, does your computer recognize your phone at all?

Thank you for the response. I tired 1 a hundred times and no luck. 2 is my next step tomorrow. BUT the weird thing, is if i pull the battery and plug it in the red charge light shows red. Also, having a PC the computer does the beep as if you plugged in something via USB. This i just recently discovered. Although i really dont think it matters. I also tried making a jig, no luck either. Most likely fail on my end with that.
At this point in time I think the best bet will be the ATT store. Unless someone has another solution, that is the only way I see it being fixed. Gotta read the details when you mess around with this stuff. Now I am paying the price.
