battery life question - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am using one of those ANKER 1700 MAH batteries.. I am also running LINOFISH 1.6 sotkc voltage and MIKG ROM 3.11. I just switched to INTELLIDEMAND GOVERNOR. I am wondering if anyone uses that and if being at 78% battery after 8 hours is good?? not too much use of the phone...
Is there a better governor to use to get better battery life but no lag? intellidemand seems to have a small lag opening apps..
Thanks..

I'd use underworld with SBC. It will help u get the most out of an extended battery. Been thinkin about getting one these myself.

Those batteries r great. I'm using one as well. Id recommend smartass gov and the underworld SBC kernel

I'm using a 2000mah batter picked up on Amazon. Pretty good and it lasts about 4 hours on constant use, including putting my phone to sleeping and waking it up a lot.
Any suggestions on which governor to use? Using Tiamat 4.1 SBC (not even sure if a new one is out). Running cm7.2 also.

4 hours???? not a good battery... I have a couple of 2000MAH batteries and they stink.. the ANKER 1700MAH with LIONFISH KERNEL and INTERACTIVE X last me close to 20 hours and I still have more then 20% battery left...

I havent run mikg in a while...but I am currently on Jamieg71 KWIQ rom with mason G .15 sbc kernel running stock frequencies wheatley governor and my battery lasts at least 16 hrs (with about 30-40% remaining) phone is very responsive too. my normal usage is GPS+track my run (30 minutes most days), pocket casts driving to work, few games of DRISK, many texts, emails and calls.
Edit:..stock battery

[Q] CM 7 nightlies and atrocious battery

Hey guys, I am on cm 7 nightly #11. I am on radio 09.01 and have experimented with Chad's and the stock kernel.
I have background data, auto-sync, wifi, bluetooth, gps all off. I dont have facebook or anything pushing either. Screen brightness is on about 60%.
With the seido 1750 mah battery, I am getting around 7-8 hours of battery. That is to the bone dead .
That is making maybe 1 call a day, a couple dozen texts, browsing the web a bit and listening to an hour or so of music/pandora.
In spare parts it says under 'other usage'. Running 42.7%, screen on 23.8%. 'Partial wake' only ones on here are really music and pandora, but they are relatively small slivers.
Under settings it is 68% display, 8% cell standby, 7% voicecalls, 4% android, 4% idle.
I have tried wiping battery stats, doing the drain all the way technique, etc.
Anyone have any suggestion on what to do here?
Thanks.
I'h suggest moving to Cymod 7 RC1 (unless you mean the new nightly, then I'm not sure) I have been running cyanogenmod since before the nightlies hit and I've never had battery that bad. I get about 3 days of standby out of my phone on RC1 and the incredikernel. I listen to pandora on 3G (charging only in that time) about an hour a day and never charge otherwise unless I'm using it heavily. I text semi often, but don't really listen to music or call.
Seems wildly different that my experience. I take it this is specific to this rom, and your battery is better on others, ie battery itself not going south? With pretty similar usage and syncs to yours, I make it about 10 hours to use 50% of batt while at work. That's with stock battery. Only new nightly #8 with stock cm7 kernel.
1) change to 2.15 radio
2) did you buy the battery off ebay for $10? If so its really a 1250mAh or so. Either way OEM batteries are better than the aftermarket (ie Siedio)
3) Is the battery really old? If so it may be wearing down
4) Kernels are all decent, they should all get better than what you are getting...
5) Don't overclock to 1300+ it should run smooth at 998 or whatever it is.
I get 12+ hours of moderate use out of my OEM 1500mAh battery.
When I first started on the nightlies and flashing different kernels, I was having the same issue.
I stopped flashing other kernels and started using the stock cm7 kernel, now I am getting awesome battery life. Also, after flashing, several people recommend immediate rebooting to improve battery life.
Thanks guys.
Few questions.
1.) Radio 2.15? I am on 2.15.00.09.01 currently. Is that the same?
2.) Mine is an authentic Seido. But should I start using the OEM 1300mah battery?
Oh, I should mention. I don't overclock at all.
I was using the stock battery and got ~6 hours even with UC to ~850 most of the time and ~200 while screen off. Turns out my battery was defective and even now OCing to ~1100 most of the time I'm getting 4x the battery. Of course I couldn't be sure that my battery was defective until after I bought the new one but if the battery life just doesn't make sense then you might want to try going back to stock (assuming that's fine) and comparing.
try a different battery maybe
i currently have the stock battery which was only used a couple days
a HTC 1500 battery
a seido 1750 battery but i havent tried any of the other batteries in awhile but i also use CM7 nightlies on #11 because it seems to have best battery life
maybe ill try my other battiers and see my findings
I've had a similar experience and I'm fairly certain it was not my battery. The battery worked great with other ROM's; Normal usage of my phone would yield roughly 40% remaining battery life at the end of the day.
After going to CM7 (I started at #38) my battery has been lousy. I can't get through a day at all.
Two days ago I flashed incredikernel 2272011 as well as CM7 build #11. I'm using the default smartass governor and my battery performance is back where it used to be. Going through an entire day for me is no problem with normal usage.
Not sure if that helps but I've had good luck with this kernel thus far. Oh... and phone has been rock solid!
I'm on CM7 Nightly 11 right now with stock kernel. Seidio 1750 that I've had since last June. I've recently been comparing Tiamat's 3.14 to stock. If I'm on any kernel that has Smartass I'll use that as my governor. If I'm on the stock kernel then I use SetCPU with the kernel set to ondemand and a screen off profile set to 245. Either scenario seems to give me pretty good battery life, but I think Tiamat's with smartass may be a little better. With any kernel I've had it overclocked to 1.03.
Also, the brightness settings based off of HTC's ROM that were posted in the cm nightly thread in the development section have worked great. I've definitely noticed an increase in battery life.
I use advanced task manager with the shortcut on the desktop. I leave essentials running in the background but try to make sure everything else is killed.
All in all with the current setup I have I can get roughly 12-14 hours with heavy texting, 4-5 phone calls, internet and games scattered throughout the day.

Is the trickle charging kernel working for you without any negative effects?

Hello,
I was just wondering how many people use trickle charging and what percentage of the people that use this kernel have had bad effects. Post a reply or vote on a poll.
Thanks
Edit: How did this get into the android development forum. I meant to put this in general. Please move it there.
Thanks
I've used it on the Stock & Extended battery without issue. msm####'s SBC-15 kernel.
Well over 2 months now.

I've used it on the stock battery for about 2-3months now with no noticeable side effects. Battery stays at 100% for a little while, instead of dropping 10% depending on where the battery was during it's on/off charge cycle with non SBC kernels.
Mod alert to have the thread moved. Triangle in the top right corner of your post.
Greatest kernel there is. Have used them for 3 months or more with stock and extended and have had no issues what so ever. Except for amazing battery life.

i use miui rom with the savage kernel sbc 1.6 and don't have any problem at all on extended battery or stock.
Never had a problem with these wonderful kernels.
I haven't had any problems. been running sz on cm7 since the beginning off and on. I'm on the teamwin HDMI kernel right now though

But yeah best kernel ever with extended battery.

So far so good. I am using the latest SBC V7 right now on my 3500 extended battery. My Rom is myns rls1. I had 100% for a good 2hr and 10mins or so.

I am pretty sure the so called "problem" with SBC kernals is a result of people buying cheap crappy chinese batteries, having one or two die, and not wanting to be blamed for them buying crappy batteries blamed something else. "OH SBC DID IT!"
just my 2 cents since this has only happened with a few batteries from my understanding and they were all cheap chinese batteries.

100% for 2hours? How much use?
I have been using SBC since the day it went public. I use it on a stock battery and a cheap a$$ eBay battery. Never had a single problem, longest i have went was at 100% was around 7 hours (0 use of course).
I have been using SBC since it was public quite a while back. No problems except better battery life.

No problems. Been using it since it was released
swyped from my cyanogenized and gingerbreaded EVO
I didn't use my phone for the 2hrs after I took it off the charger. I think I can get 20+ hours with moderate use. I think this kernel is working for me.

Just switched like a week ago, I just take it off the charger before I fall asleep, don't want it on the charger for 7-9 hours. No issues yet. My battery was at 100% when I took it off the charger last night. I checked my Facebook & did a couple other things for about 20 mins and then turned wifi off & went to sleep. When I woke up 9 hours later it was still at 100%, and stayed that way for another 20 mins of use. Best battery life I've seen in a long time.

Been using SBC kernels for awhile now, on multiple roms, and experiencing AMAZING battery life. With zero problems twords stock and 3500 ma batteries. I run this kernel on my company phones that are rooted as well. on average over 10 devices at a time with 0 compaints to date.
Vaelpak went back to a crappy kernel on his new 3.2 and my battery life started sucking it up again. Flashed back to SBC for Netarchy's 4.1.9.1 Non-HAVS v7. Ive found that to be the best when it comes to draining.
Even under heavy use I still get a solid 12 hours of battery on my 3500. Thats running GPS, Wifi, wifi tether, lots of emails, texts, and other communications on a busy day. During slow times Ive gotten a single charge to last 57 hours of light usage. That was with wifi and bluetooth enabled the whole time and juice defender running as well.
I have since recently dropped juice defender, and only using SBC, and seeing ~ 30-35 hours before full drain on normal usage.

[Q] What kernel do you use?

Hi I am wondering what kernels everyone is using for their Incredible. I was using Tiamat 3.3.5 NO-SBC and got decent battery life. Today I put on Savaged-Zen-INC-0.0.2-BFS-HAVS-GB-signed. What is working best for you also what one would you recommend for maximum battery life. Thank you.
I'm kinda one of those people that just experiments around with kernels. Right now I'm using the same as you which is Tiamat, but I really have enjoyed the most recent incredikernel.
I'm running Skyraider 3.5 with the 2.6.32.27 incredikernel. Happy with it so far. I'm at 46% battery after 28 hours of medium use for calls, texts, browsing, and listening to music. I have the screen brightness pretty low and the cpu governer set to "smartass". I just flashed to this from HeyitsLou #9. That one gave great battery too...the best was almost 72 hours! I flashed to this one for the overclocking.
I really like incredikernel, I get great battery life out of it. when I flash a new kernel I bump charge then erase battery stats and I get about 2 days of battery out of it, that's with turning off wifi when not needed and custom automatic brightness

Tiamat kernel plays nice.
It can also be undervolted additionally.
Right now I'm running CM7 Stable, and I use the Savage Zen kernel (no SBC). I get pretty decent battery life out of it by using SetCPU and setting it to 245 min/max when the screen is off and around 245-1000~ when it's on; this allows me to get great performance while still maintaining decent battery.
savaged zen 2.0.0. my phone's been through 2 nights. played quite a few games. checked facebook a bunch. used flashlight a few times. email, xda, calls. 1 day 11 hours and still like 10 percent left. runnign on savaged zen governer. that's pretty damn good.
then again, i did fall asleep wiht it on and not charging twice. at least we know it sleeps well...
played with the SZ governor for a little bit the other day, and found it pretty nice.
ended up switching back to tiamat and smartass though.
also currently testing and trying out SBC just to see how it behaves. easily noticing that extra percentage of battery that gets pushed to charge due to the trickle charge vs a non-SBC kernal.
I'm visitng here from the Samsung Captivate forum. I flashed CM7 to my girlfriend's EVO last night and she is experiencing horrid battery life. I turned off the "back up to google" options in the privacy menu that is said to be starting Android system every time the dialer is used, which is said to use up excessive battery power.
I'm about to flash tiamat's latest kernel. I'll report back on how it goes.
I flashed back to CM7 the other day. I was having issues, so i completely reformattetd everything. Went back to stock, unrooted, re-roooted, and flashed cm7. I'm getting great battery life with CM7 + the tiamat kernel.
As of right now: 25 hours, 19 minutes of uptime with 68% of my battery life remaining.
ETA: This is using the 3500mah seido extended battery.
My girlfriend is getting much improved battery life with tiamats 3.3.7 kernel

i'm on Kings Unleashed GBR3 NEON-CM7 using tiamat 3.3.7 sbc kernel and i love it! i am getting almost 35hrs on one charge!

[Q] What are some tips for better battery life?

I searched for this and found a couple results but I'd like a fresh thread with only helpful information. Exactly as the title says: What are you guys doing that has given the best battery life without sacrificing much speed? Post your method, your ROM, your Kernel, and your battery life in hours between taking it off the charger and to almost dead. Thanks. This will help everyone I hope.
I'm running synergy rls1 underclocked to 652 and down to 225 when screen is off......I've gotten 3.5 days battery with 50 to 75 texts/day and a few minutes of calls with light internet browsing and still had 22 percent remaining. The only thing that i notice lagwise is home screen redraws take a lil longer than normal. I've read the v6 supercharger script fixes this issue but haven't gotten around to trying it yet. Before that i was running cm7 with tiamat 3.3.7. Battery life was awesome with that setup, could go four days but it was really annoying that i could never get my GPS to work no matter how many fixes i tried. By the way my mobile network was turned off the whole time except when doing my light internet browsing. All the animations turned off as well, with the screen set to the lowest setting i can tolerate.

I've been running Myns Warm 2.2 Rls5 with netarchys sbc build and going on 2.5 days of battery life with heavy use before I have to plug it in (extended battery btw). More or less 110-150 sms per day, listening to music at work, reading on xda, and two or three 5 min phone calls. No settings have been changed except for screen time out from 1 min to 30 sec. With light use I get about 4 days.

vipermod
Try vipermod, it's a script you can use on Terminal Emulator to undervolt your kernel. I undervolt mine -50V and the battery life is great!
Isn't vipermod only for AOSP kernels?
