I have been experiencing my own voice echoing on calls on my HTC One X. It was more pronounced when I had a case on but even 'naked' I get a similar problem. Is there a fix for this (turn off noise reduction on the mic?) or is it a hardware fault?

Dear All,
I have tried to search but I can’t seem to get a straight answer to my problem.
I have noticed that only in voice calls there is an unacceptable (to me anyway) hiss in the background especially when using the provided earphones/mic. If just listening to an MP3 the sound is fine.
I would like to know is this a fault with the phone (I know many htc desire owners have this problem) as in a fault that can be fixed – or is it simple the nature of the phone and I will have to live with it?
My desire is about a week old. I got it direct from Three (u.k).
Thanks.
I'm running the lastest CM7 nightly but I've had this problem for quite some time. I've been looking around for information on where the microphone settings are in android and I never found the exact answer. My microphone is so sensitive that when I'm on the phone, people often tell me that the people speaking in the background practically sound as loud as if they were speaking into the phone itself. I need to lower the sensitivity of the mic on a call so that I don't rape my peer's ears with the ridiculously loud ambient noise.
I noticed that samsung phones have a hidden service menu where you can alter mic settings, but I couldn't find one for HTC (don't think they even have one with mic settings). From what I can gather, there was a similar issue with the Desire HD and an edit to the /etc/AdieHWCodec.csv fixed their sensitivity problem. I open AdieHWCodec on my G2 and I have no idea where to start lol. Any ideas?
For the record, the stock AdieHWCodec.csv and the one included in CM7 are identical.
Sent it in for the wifi problem. That was fixed but there is now a high pitched noise when recording a video. Not impressed. Back in again next week.
Send an email to htc. Can't hurt anyone

Are you sure they didn't just turn on stereo recording?
When I have stereo sound recording turned on I hear a high pitched tone. Also I noticed that the sound gets muted for half of a second when I turn the flash on or off. But what I forgot to ask you, why would stereo sound recording cause a high pitched sound to appear in the video? Even when I play some music on my speakers and try to record the sound I hear that annoying sound.
Wi-Fi issues? Poor service from HTC UK repair? Shocking. I wonder why this hasn't come up before? Oh wait. It has, in 220 pages of discussion. The party you're looking for is over here.

Hello z1c owners.
Have you guys experienced low mic volume problem during call? The other end of call keep complain about my voice not clear. After turn off noises suppression, things got better, but still sounds like the mic is coverd with something, not crystal clear. I used skvalex call recorder recorded calls from my z1c and a moto x for comparison. Moto X is loud and clear, but z1c is lower and muffled.
Is that normal or I bought defected phone? Is there any solutions for this problem.

Have exactly the same problem only when I use the speakerphone for calls. I am very interested in possible solutions.
I have another observation to report. I use smart voice recorder from the playstore to record conversations. There is a setting inside this app which lets you choose between microphone's auto gain control and manual gain control (calibrate). Auto gain gives me awful very low volume audio. On the other hand when I calibrate the mic the volume is in the perfect level.

I had the same problem on mine, the volume was so low that the other people could't hear what I said at all. Then the little grid covering the mic and the speaker detached and now the problem is gone (waterproofing is gone too I guess), the holes on the grid are tiny and they got obstructed by dirt.
Hello,
The microphone doens't work on my S9 when I use the speaker phone. The people do not hear me. I have no problem in normal call mode.
I tested to call in "safe mode" but the problem always appears.
Thank you for your help!
No idea?
Same problem here (replace xx by tt) : hxxps://us.community.samsung.com/t5/forums/v3_1/forumtopicpage/board-id/GalaxyS/thread-id/51619/page/12
Thank you!

m also having the same problem, but also While video recording
Same problem here. Only when HD calling is enabled. If you disable HD calling, the problem should go away. I'm hoping the first software update fixes it. Just to be clear the problem is that the other person cannot hear you when on speakerphone. You should be able to hear them clearly and have no idea there is a problem unless they tell you that you sound muffled or like you are underwater. Turn off HD calling on Verizon and it goes away.
Thank you for your solution. I disabled the HD calling ("4G calling" in French) and the voice can be heard now. But the quality is very very bad! It is scandalous for a phone of this price!
Is there an other solution to improve the microphone quality during a call with speakerphone?
Thank you!
HD Calling?
I have the same issue, but have no idea how to disable HD Calling ( I'm on Sprint BTW). These minor issues are ticking me off; I've already had for factory reset once due to Camera settings crashing the app.. . now this nonsense. Phone isn't even 14 days out of the box, and its DEFINITELY not an "third party-app" issue. Bad time to switch from iPhone, huh? This is unacceptable for a $300 phone, nonetheless a $1K phone.
Hello, I have the same issue, on VoIP apps like WhatsApp as well. https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...rphone-loudness-clarity-t3746298#post78757253
Does anyone experience the same problem on custom ROM?

Same problem here, first on Note7, now on Note9. Disabling HD calling did not fix it for me.
any solution for it ? please post solution
I've discovered the issue is that the phone attempts to mute your microphone while the speaker is playing sounds. (If you're on the phone with someone they have background noise or are talking) and your phone's microphone attempts to lower the sensitivity so that the person whom you are speaking with doesn't hear an echo of themselves on their end. If they aren't making a sound then you can be heard normally. This is the downfall of my S9+ because the speaker and microphone are right beside each other.
