I drive a 08 F-150 and I put my phone in my cupholder and it bends my charger putting the weight of the phone on it and recently it started to bend the contact port that receives electricity and I would connect my phone but it would say connected but would drain my battery so I have to bend charger cables to charge my phone( ive tried many) and one day I put my phone connected to my car charger and it was powered off and than I looked and my phone was in download mode and something got downloaded I then rebooted my phone and my triangle was gone!!!!!!! Is it possible my charger turned into a usb jig? And anybody have an ideas on maybe moving the contact to its original position? Also when plugged intoi a computer itll charge but needs to bent up on the port of my phone to be usb recognized.
Or a car charger that bends around the phone? like at a 90 angle?

sounds like out of no where it turned into a jig by being at a 90• angle. im not sure but it may sound like that. just charge it with the headphone side down, charger port up!

Its possible, but not probable. It would be a combination of only certain pins transferring current, and the resistance only being like 300k ohms. Totally possible over time i suppose with a faulty connection.

I've been using a simple $6.00 vent mounted holder from Walmart ever since my HTC Mogul days. It sure beats breaking your charging port.
This is why I hate having the charger port on the BOTTOM of the phone... Its stupid design because that's the part of the phone that is going to be bumping up against something most of the time. It really should be next to the headphone jack.
I purchased a right-angle USB cable about a month after I got my phone, and I love it. I can actually set my phone in a cup holder in the car with it charging and NOT feel like I'm going to break the USB port.

Hi all, anyone else having problems with their charging cable? Basically mine no longer goes into my desire! I've compared my cable to my partners and it looks like the 2 locking pins on mine are stuck in the lock position, like the cable is plugged into the phone. I just can't seem to get them to release! I can't push the cable into the phone as these little pins must click into little grooves or something that possible shuts a latch that holds the cable in place. My girlfriends cable goes in fine though, so at least I can still charge it. Has anyone got an idea on how to sort my cable?

the htc charging cable is sh*t quality imo, My phone fell off my desk while it was charging and it stopped working aftestill r that. Thankfully, nokia uses the same usb cable when I was using the e71. Their's is much more sturdier. My desire has fallen from my desk a few times now and it's still good to go. I'd try and get a nokia usb cable if you're looking for a new one. Just my 2 cents. =)

Are you saying that HTC cable is bad if u drop your phone to floor a lot?
Is this USB cable only thing that keeps your phone on your desk?
MicroUSB cables are cheap to come by So a replacement isn't exactly going to cost a bomb.
So I went onto monoprice.com and was able to get a complete car kit that included a cigarette to USB adapter, 3ft USB to 5-pin microUSB cable, and universal car mount, all for a total of $11.28 $11.37 including shipping!
the individual items are:
cigarette to USB

USB to 5-pin MicroUSB

Universal GPS car mount

I hope this helps anyone who is looking for a cheap but effective mounting system for their car
EDIT
The adapter did not charge the phone correctly, so my phone would drain faster than it would recharge. I went to amazon.com and bought a car charger that should work great, and only ends up making the total a few cents higher
Wow. Good price there.
The output of the car charger is 1000ma, the stock wall charger is 700ma I believe. You think it'll hurt it? If anything, I think the phone will just get warmer than normal when plugged in.
that's the car mount I use. Picked it up from there, really cheap but you get what you pay for. Its an ok car mount but not great.

Well hey, it'll work right? Lol.
As for the charger, I'm not sure. I don't think I'll do anything bad really.
dam thats not a bad price!
Just a FYI
Even though the car charger is rated at 1000mA, it does not have the D+ and D- pins shorted together. This causes the phone to think it is connected to a data only device (and not a power supply). Because of this, it only draws 500mA, which when using with Navigation actually causes more drain than what the charge is.
It's a simple fix though. Just pull apart the charger, and solder the middle pins together (look on the underside of the board, and solder together the two middle solder points). The proper way to do it, and the way I did it, was to bridge it using a 200ohm resistor.
Ask that kinda sucks. Well I'll see how it works before I try anything. Is there a canker on that site that will work correctly? Or is the problem with the car to usb rather than the usb cable itself?
I bought one of these chargers for my duaghter before this thread and it does not work with her Vibrant. Guess I will have to mod it.

You have to be a hard core tweaker to break down an solder a $2 cable. I wasted more than $2 worth of time just reading the post about it.
Ok, so it didn't work. The phone just said that the usb had been plugged in, but it didn't charge. I took a pic of what the charger looks like torn apart, can you tell me where I need to souder? Am I going to have to tear open the usb casing, or is it something I can do without tearing it apart any further?

So I grabbed another car-to-usb thing, and now it says It's charging but It's apparently draining faster than it is charging :-( it doesn't even seem to be slowing down the drain. Do you guys think that a different cable might affect things, or should I just get a new charger/adapter?

I don't have this charger, but try using the cable that came with the phone. If its the same, then try to exchange it or using a different cable.
I also bought mine from monoprice and it does not charge. It only drains .
Will look for alternatives.

I just did a few quick searches, because like a few others have said, it drains faster than it charges when using navigation. Not good if you're on a long trip.
Also, it is not the cable itself it's the charger that is not correct. I used both a monoprice wire and the oem one that came with phone. Just as an update, I have noticed that while soldering the points helped a little, it is still not pulling as much as even the stock wall charger (which is only rated at .7A). I found this out by going to the file /sys/class/power_supply/battery/batt_chg_current.
-While plugged into the wall ithe value is showing 1050 on average.
-Plugged into usb it shows 850 on average
-On the modified car charger around 900 on average.
So even with the mod it still doesn't pull the full amp and still drains a bit quicker than the charge

You can try the fix and see if you get better results than me. If you look at the port that you would plug in the usb cable, (from the angle you took the picture) you will see four pins "bend" down into the pcb board. These are the four pins I am talking about. The outside two are for power. The middle two are your D+ D- (data) pins. if you flip over the board you will see the 4 factory solder points, just add a dab of solder to the two middle points.
I bought this combo as well and the charger works fine for my usage: pandora on my one hour commute. I can't get navigation to work right (and I know how to get to work so I have not tested that.
Only flaw so far is that the audio cable from my phone placement on the windscreen to the aux-jack in for my stereo is an inch too far than my cable can reach. Time to get a longer cable.
I just went ahead and bought this on amazon.com
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003WRBGK6/ref=oss_product
This should do the trick, and when coupled with the gps mount is only a couple cents more than buying the adapter+cable
it would make the total package... $11.37
what do you guys think about this one?

The new car charger works great when my phone is asleep it will fully charge in under an hour! The only thing is, with my screen all the way up using gps it still drains a lot faster than it charges. When I turned the screen down, it didn't seem to go down at all in the 5 or 6 minutes of driving I did. Does this screen really suck THAT MUCH power??? Are there any chargers out there capable of charging this phone well enough to allow for full screen brightness while using the gps functionality?

Any micro USB cables that you guys would recommend over the OEM original cable.
I seem to be one of the very few that have problems with the original cable fitting snuggly. Yes, the door is open all the way til it clicks, yet the cable easily falls out.
If anyone has a suggestion of another cable or has the same problem with a fix that I just somehow missed after searching for a couple of days, it would be greatly appreciated.
I had the same problem. After about a month of use it just came completely loose and would only stay in if I propped it up a certain way. I tried a friend's charger and it worked fine (likewise my charger was loose on his captivate).
I just took the usb cable from my external hard drive and that one fits very snuggly, unfortunately it is also much shorter
I'm also having this issue. I wonder why...

Well upon further inspection, you can see how the top of the phone is curved and if you look at with the USB door open from the top and tilted slightly back you can see how the jack actually looks crooked inside the phone. I'm quite sure that this is because of the curved top parallel to the circuit board that has the jack is too tall. And I think for some reason I might need to trim down the micro end a bit on the front side..it looks like its hitting the front side of the phone.
I'm looking for a replacement cable as well...even OEM is fine. The case around mine cracked off one night when I feel asleep playing on my phone. Mine was always kind of loose compared to the att charging cable which is nice and tight. Does radio shack carry cables like this?

(just a thought)
Search Amazon for "blackberry usb cable micro usb". The first result should be it, it's a very high quality, shielded cable. To get a solid, snug fit I suggest a razor or a knife to easily cut back some of the rubber around the micro tip. Works amazingly well. I could even make it work before I trimmed it.
just to elaborate, the specific micro end is called a "micro b " usb connection.
not to be confused with mini or micro a
of course the other end is just standard.
The place I work has a 5' nice quality cable that fits my Captivate tight. They got them to go with the 2100mA USB Car Charger we sell. Cost on the cable is $ 4.99 plus shipping (about $2.99 first class parcel).

I'm not sure if its quality, or just chance, but I've found that only some 3rd-party cables will work. I've tried a blackberry one that didn't work, and a really cheap one that did.
I would suggest keeping the one you got from samsung, just in case.
I'd like to know if anyone else had issues with cables not working?
I got a Samsung cable designed for the galaxy S on Amazon for like $6 with free shipping.

I just used a razor blade to trim the rubber back, works great.
If you look at your cable. The black part and the silver part(part that goes in your phone) is not in a straight line.
Just try to make it straight. And use a knife to cut the rubber of the edge a little bit.
That should do the trick.

I haven't read all of the posts so I don't know if someone has already posted a solution to this problem, so I'll just answer.
I had this same problem. If you notice their are two tiny metal teeth that lock the charger into the phone. These teeth no longer stick out as far as they used to. That is why you are having this problem. The teeth are not bent. It is the micro usb plug that is around it. All that you need to do is give it a firm bush on the table. Bend the plug away from the teeth so that they stick out more. This fixed my problem.
When you put it back into your phone, you will notice that the plug is no longer in the phone at an angle.

You should saved me from buying 3 more cables. I distroyed my OEM cable to make a jig because I bricked my phone. I ordered 3 sets of cables and they all had the same problem.... Usb kept popping off. So I was just about to go out and order 3 more sets if cables, this time OEM untill I decided to read this tread. It never occured to me that it was fitting in well because of the extra rubber on the connector. I trimmed it down and now the cable snapped in perfectly like it was supposed to. Thanks for the fix!

anyone have any ideas on how to do this,
Please all help is greatly appreciated
Lol that looks like my pic lol.. I wanted to do a powermate for my phone to, but jus a fyi, you wont get a AC quick charge from the pins, it will be a usb charge..
But all you gotta do is what you see in the pic, red pos on the left pin next to volume rocker and neg on the pin next to the usb port.. If you want you can put the neg on the middle pin also, that will activate desk mode when you charge ur phone..
Good luck, and show the final product when done..

I prefer to use touchstone kits for modding from the palm pre, I find it charges my device the same speed as the A/C charger when I hook it up by soldering from its leads to the usb port on the device. It may require a nearly complete tear down of the device, but that gives you all the protection of the charging circuits and the fully charged message on android etc so your device will stop charging, if you hook it up using the 3pins on the battery connector then you are bypassing the charging circuits, possibly with disasterous effect, but certainly with no way to stop charging other than removing it from the charging mat.
Hope that makes sense...

I noticed this as well. hopefully if something gets broken its more likely to be the connector on the cable than the charging port. I have tried a few other cables as well and all are pretty difficult to insert.
Well the way I see it would you rather have it flop around and be loose, or have a night tight fit?
On a more serious note I had the same issue when I first recieved my F400S. After a week or so it got better, you can always try an older micro usb cable thats more broken in to avoid this issue.
when i first got the phone it was like what you've desribed. but after a while, it wasn't an issue anymore, i guess its a good sign that the phone is brand spanking new.

Hi,
I tilt the usb-connector up (just a bit) while plugging it in.
Greetz
It requires a downward angle tilting towards the device to insert.
Same for me, but once you're using qi charging and Wi-Fi file transfer, you'll hardly ever use the port.

Only way to get it in is by tilting the cable downward. Tried few cables, they are all doing the same thing. Exchange perhaps?

Tilting the cable to plug in seems to be the norm on pretty much every G3. I doubt exchanging it will help.
Once you've done it for a while, it should become pretty easy to do.
Tilting the cable and just dealing with it are fine, but what happens when you stay finding usb cables that don't want to charge your G3 properly? I have one (very nice) 10ft cable and my phone plays a game of connecting and disconnecting while trying to charge with this cord. This courts does not give me the same problems on other devices. However the G3 charges just fine on all my other cables. Not using this cable is an obvious answer but i worry that the problem could get worse and what if I start having problems with other chargers?
For now, the solution is to tilt the cord slightly downward (or upward, depending on your perspective) as the port is just sliiiiightly more flush with the opening. My advice is to get used to doing this. A broken charger port is really a PITA, so taking an extra 2 seconds to plug it in is the prudent choice. My dad gave me a lot of good advice when I was growing up, and one of the gems turns out to be "don't force things."
As mentioned, once we get some wireless charging back covers on a more accessible basis, we'll all just use wireless charging and never plug in again. Except in the car.
The cable from my old GS4 plugs in very very easily. I haven't tried charging with it tho. I use it mainly for usb mtp.
Posted from my LG-D850
Difficult at first. It did get better for me though. I too thought i had damaged it or that it had shipped that way. And I also thought I was just breaking it more each time I charged and contemplated exchanging LOL. Make sure cord is facing the right way first (im still trying to put it in upside down sometimes), then you do have to tilt it down a bit to get in initially and then it tilts slightly up before fully inserting. It was very diificult to do the first couple days. Day 5 and its way easy. Hope this has helped and put your mind at ease This is my first Android phone and i'm luvin it!
the past new phones i had. was always hard at first to plug it in.
just gotta lube it up
Any new updates on this? I guess tilting the cable a bit is working, but will it ever get to the point it will go straight in? It really appears that this is not a defect but a LG design for the port.
