Best rom base on battery? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Can anyone tell me the best rom and kernel combine that would last at least 8hrs moderate use. For some reason the milestone 5 and r156-384mhz doesnt seem good to me. Im only going for 6hrs.

doing what? I go about 16 hours / 3 hours screen on with completely stock setup...

What is your screen on time? That is the major factor in how long your battery will last. From what I've seen, most ROM/kernel combos won't net you much more than 3 hrs of screen on time with the standard battery, maybe 3.5 hrs depending on what you're doing. Extended battery gets something like 3.5-4 hrs screen on time from what I've seen.

What everyone above said is correct, the screen on time is the big player in battery life. Also, changing your kernel can impact battery life a lot. Try a few if you are unhappy with your current one.

Try rascream rom coupled with trinity kernel....users have reported an avg of 4-5 hours screen on time

I'm using Bamf with James Bond kernel. Perfect combo.
Screen on time of about 4hrs but also important the deep sleep only reduces my battery by 0.2% per hour. Most roms tend to be like 2-10% screen off which leaves u less power for screen on.
Btw I use wifi and hdspa on all the time. And sync always on.
And I do use my phone

[Q] Display taking up WAY too much battery life.

I am using Super Z Sense enhanced v3.1 with incredikernel installed. I've used my phone for around 10 minutes of browsing, and the rest of the time the screens been off. It's been unplugged for 3 hours 20 minutes. I unplugged it after fully charging it and now its at 68%. The display has been taking up 79% of the battery, even though the screens been off most of the time. What do I do?
lower the display?
and every ROM displays things differently. If your battery isn't affected don't sweat it. I personally haven't run that ROM so I can't help you there.
It is on miminum brightness, and my battery is greatly affected. Not using my phone I have maybe 12 hours of standby battery life.
I'm having the exact same problem..... backlight is turned off and my display is using 79% of the battery.... I'm in cyangenMod 6.1...
any ideas?

I've replicated the results with a brand new battery from Verizon (after several charges, the capacity should be fine now) and both CM7 (Build 45 from Gridlock) and Uber Z RC2 and several different kernels. I think this is just the design of the phone, or I got two defective batteries in a row
There's an important piece of information missing here... Is your Incredible's screen the SLCD type or AMOLED type? SLCD screens don't use any more power due to what's on the screen due to the type of backlight (same light illuminates the whole screen), whereas on an AMOLED display, each pixel is its own source of light. That's why on an AMOLED display, darker themes offer better battery life as the pixels aren't having to light up as much to display the content.
Might need that info.
I have a slcd display....

Another important question: 3G or wifi for most of the day?
I can get 6-8 hours out of a standard battery running on 3G with wifi disabled, but if I am on wifi I can get 18-20 hours...
I spend most of my time in 3g.... I'm in the nightly cm6 rom with #21 kernel now and I'm getting the 20 hours I was hoping for.... life is good.

Wifi on maybe 20% of the time.

I had the same things running Z ROM's. I switched to Myn's Warm TwoPointTwo, and the display is low, right now 7%, and same usage patterns. 3G all day at work (8 - 5), Wi-Fi all night until morning.
Maybe a phone call a day, maybe...emails/TweetDeck/texts/web browsing otherwise. It seems that that's the way Z ROM's on this phone run...?
I too have this problem on any aosp rom ive ran on it whether it be gingerbread or froyo. The display will take up a good 80 percent battery life, making my Seidio 3500mAh battery able to barely able to get through the day. However, on a sense rom the display takes maybe 5 to 7 percent and the battery will last 3 or 4 days. I was wondering if anybody managed to figure out a solution to this, as I want to run gingerbread but can't due to the battery issue.
My incredible is of the slcd type. Any solutions worth trying?
having the same issue with CM7 nightly builds... display using over 70% all the time... terrible battery life. otherwise CM7 seems very stable, thanks to all those involved in making it happen, you guys rock!
any help with the battery/display issue? thanks
Don't forget, these are percentages. Each rom/kernel combo calculates the percentages differently. Your may be getting actual better life, but the meter says 70% of the total usage because the Android System and other services aren't using nearly as much battery vs a stock kernel/stock rom.
The problem we have here though is that the battery life is greatly affected. Stock battery gets maybe 12 hours standby on a fresh install and screen mostly off. My Seidio 3500 barely makes it through a full day on any aosp rom yet lasts 4 days on a sense rom.

Sync
Another couple players in battery life besides display are frequency and quantity of accounts synched, as well as GPS on/off.
Not magic bullets to battery savings since Display is the resource hog in this instance, but you may (should) be able to squeeze several additional percentage points out of the battery by tweaking the synch quantity & frequency, as well as toggling GPS to off unless it's needed.
Mindblowing if the 3500 doesn't last a day on a full charge.
Absent that, I've read varying opinions on whether the xx.9 radio is a battery eater.
I figured out my solution. Update your radio. 2.15.00.07.28 doesn't like aosp roms, so I upgraded to 2.15.00.11.19. MUCH better on the battery life (doesn't run my Seidio 3500 dead in just one day, more like 3 now) although as a previous poster suggested, the percentages in the battery life display are just that. Percentages. The display still shows ~50% of the use, however the life has returned to normal.
Link to radio images: http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/files/category/25-htc-incredible/
And I know some of you are wondering "How in the f&$* can the radio affect the displays power usage?" To be honest, I don't know the answer to that either. I just tried this on a hunch and it seemed to work. Full day of not exactly light use (browsing while wifi tethering, some bright sun use as a navigation device, texting all day) and no forced attempts to be frugal with power (letting the screen time out on its own instead of immediately poking the power button, accidentally left wifi on most of the day, automatic brightness with a lot of full sun use...) and I'm still over 60% after 14 hours. Your mileage may vary.

[Q] Maximize Battery Life

Hey there,
I want to know what is the BEST setup to maximize battery life. What ROM? What Kernel? What UnderVolt ( if any )? What Radio?
My room mate has an iPhone that he modded and it now lasts two days without being charged and that's with moderate usage. I'd like to out do him with my Android. Any help?
-Reiz
So far personally I've had the best experience with the following :
ROM : CM7 ( 7.0.0 )
Kernel : Tiamat 2.6.32.27
Radio : 11.19
I can't seem to get undervolting to work since I don't have the folder that Viper describes even though I am using an AOSP rom ( as far as I know ) . o.o It's odd really... Anyways, that usually gets me about 20 hours of usage or so .
Twenty hours isn't bad, as the Incredible isn't known for it's battery life. You won't get what your roommate's getting with his phone, maybe get a bigger battery...? I don't think you're going to really out do yourself with the experience you've posted, I'd be happy with that.
I am running SkyRaider 4.0, Chad's 12232010 kernel, OC'd to 1.0368 (small OC, I know) with the leaked 04.08 radio, and I can get about 20 - 24 hours before charging, low to moderate usage (no games, emails for work/personal, maybe 1 call of 5 minutes, lots of web browsing).
Cm7 stock kernal. On metro pcs with a seidio 3500 mah extended battery. Unplug at 7am 12 hours later only sitting on 74% lmao. And in that time bout 100 text. And 200 work emails.. and 30 mins of surfing on lunch. This setup has been the best for me on bat life.. used to run sense and my bat life would just suck..

Two things that will kill your battery faster than anything:
-Anything that syncs
-your screen
So, turn your brightness and screen timeout down and turn off anything you don't need syncing all the time, or at least turn the sync frequency down.
Also, keep your wifi, vibration, tactile feedback, and gps off unless you really need it.
Kernels, roms, undervolting...no where near as effective.
Think about your phone as a smaller version of a laptop (which it pretty much is), what's going to save you the most energy: throttling your cpu speed, or turning the screen brightness down?
Much love brother

Generic Hotplug and Franco's Kernel Question

Yesterday I flashed Franco's Kernel along with his app. I am running CodenameAndroid 1.6 ROM with Franco's Kernel r135 nightly.
I haven not been getting the exceptional battery life that everyone has been raving about. I understand every phone is different, and there are tons of contributing factors to battery life.
I have my screen brightness very low, location services are off, no LTE running (I'm running on 3G), however I've had wifi on all day today since I am at home. I've undervolted by using Franco's paid app and am running On Demand governor. However, I have generic hotplug turned on because I'm not always on my phone and messing with it. It's 1 o clock, and I took the phone off the charger at 8 this morning. I'm already down to 79% and my on-screen time is only 18 minutes while my idle time is 3 hours and 44 minutes. Other than that, I don't have any apps unning in the background accept for the regular things that should be running.
To the point, am I doing something wrong? It just seems weird to have that much battery drain and have my phone on idle for almost 4 hours and on-screen time to only be 18 minutes. Are my expectations too high for this kernel? I've heard awesome stats as far as battery life goes while using this kernel but I'm not seeing it. Is it because the kernel hasn't fully "baked" into the phone like some people say? I appreciate the feedback.
That doesn't sound right. Do you have BetterBatteryStats installed? That way you can find out what is keeping your phone awake whilst your screen is on.
Also, what are the rest of your kernel settings? Mine:
r135-512
384/1228
interactive (no hotplug works best for me)
I don't uv, but let SmartReflex do it's job for me.
This works best for me with BAMF (atm, but switch beween that rom and Liquid quite often). BAMF gives me best screen on time, but idles less good than Liquid, which gives me less screen on time. On a day of heavy usage, BAMF wins.
What I'm trying to say is, find your zen in rom/ kernel/ radio combo, because you might just use your phone differently then me (and others).
Oh, and I use the Samsung oem 2000mah battery. That helps too. I'm getting ~10h of use with ~4h screen on on a charge.
Hope this get's you on your way mate

Which ICS rom has given you the best battery life?

So right now I'm on AOKP, and this and every ICS rom I've had bad battery life, I have only gotten 2 hours of screen on time, maybe 2 hours 20 min. I came from Juggernaut when I would easily get 3.5 hours of screen on time, and I even find myself charging my phone a lot more often. So just wondering which rom/kernel has given you guys the best battery life

On GB: Juggernaut/Synergy
On ICS so far: Telus stock v4.0.3/stock kernel
Darkside Telus 4.0.3 build has fantastic battery life for me. I get about 2% battery drain per hour (when the phone is sitting idle) and on a typical day I will still have more than 50 - 60% battery left when I go to bed. That's after the phone has been on for 15 or 16hrs with moderate use.
If I use the phone more heavily I can get over 3 hours of screen on time.
If we're talking ICS rom's, I'd say 'CM9 20120620 Unofficial' gave me great battery life. I used it for almost a week. I had BLN disabled and was very impressed with the battery life. I could make it an entire day with mod/heavy use. I've run several ICS rom's, and by far it beats them all hands down. It might not be on par with our GB rom's yet....but it's getting close. They've now removed BLN support from the kernel because of the battery drain. But I found just disabling it was enough for me.
I'm getting ready to flash nightly 6/27 with bln disabled. I'll see what kind of improvement I get, if any, with it being disabled.

i put on darksideevolution v7 yesterday and after 10 hours i had 65% left. i did about 40 minutes on the phone, texting all day, wifi/data turned off when it wasnt being used (easy to turn on/off with the toggles)
Honestly I haven't had good battery life since I got this phone 2 months ago. I've been tinkering alot, mainly with Darkside and now AOKP with Eugene's kernel on lionheart. My wife's stock t989 gets great battery life, but I can't live in stock. It seems like I can leave my phone unused sometimes, maybe overnight, and the battery life is great (9% used in 10 hours) but as soon as I pick it up, it drops 20%. Must be that big screen. Anyway, I'm trying to get this worked out. I'm getting my preferred rom figured out and then hoping to let the battery settle into it. Always an experiment...

Hyperion battery under-performing?

Got the Hyperion last week from Amazon and overall I was impressed with its initial performance. It was a huge boost from the oem battery as I didn't have to recharge my phone at all during the day.
My only concern is that I've noticed I haven't been seeing similar numbers as others have mentioned with their Hyperion. I mean, I'm not getting 24+ hrs of use with 8 hrs of on screen time. I'll take a photo next time when its at its lowest charge but I am averaging about 5-6 hrs of on screen time, and thats with basic use, surfing the web, texting, couple phone calls, no games or movies, wifi/gps/sync on, and 30% brightness, non rooted as well.
Does anyone else feel their Hyperion isn't performing as others have claimed?

24+ hours with 8+ hours screen is is down right impossible. The reason people get extended batteries is because they want more than the stocks screen time for 4-5 hours without worrying about their phone dying.
Not really... With the correct kernel and ROM I can push that if not surpass it. Paranoid 2.51 leankernel 1.6 been home all day from the storm... That's 3 hours 12 mins screen on time @ 67% juice left.

For me, not so much. Today for an example, I got a little over 12 hrs until I hit the 5% mark with almost 6 hours of screen on time. Home all day too with wifi on and screen brightness at 30%.
One thing I did notice though is that the "sdcard" used 1 hr and 17 mins of the battery. I've never even seen the sdcard on the activity list before, this is the 2nd time I've seen it since installing the Hyperion battery. Hmm what could it be?
I almost made it.. I'm running Aokp build 4. Not sure what the kernel is.
Plus the batteries have to go through a charging period... I noticed the first day it lasted a long time almost 2 days. (1day22hrs)I forget what the screen on time.

Have you looked at any wakelocks your getting with better battery stats? That is pretty bad for the 4200 batt. Did you do the charging cycles that were detailed in the user manual?
Hey I was just passing by and reading threads, although I don't have this battery, a very possible reason that your battery life might not be as good is that you're still on stock. Notice everyone else who posted is on a custom rom + kernel. The GS3 stock roms are nice but come very bloated with apps. I read somewhere that on stock when you start up your phone, by default it starts a very impressively high number of processes ~50ish. I could be wrong on that but yeah a bloated stock rom MIGHT be the problem. Just my thought.

No I have not tried that app yet.
And yes I did follow the initial charging instructions as well.
It has to be something with the phone because even with the stock battery I had terrible performance, it'd last me only 3 hrs of on screen time where I've heard most users receive around 5.
He is my cpu time, it seems normal since the phone is spent most of its time in deep sleep.
Good at first/No so good after a couple months?
I havce the Hyperion, and have experienced close to 48 hours of life, albeit with very little use. With moderate use, I've experienced 30 hours. My screen time never surpasses 3 hours per day.
A few weeks ago I installed the Serenity 1.1 ROM. I have not been able to get more than 15 hours with that ROM.
This morning, I put in my stock battery, and it has been in for 9 hours so far, and is currently at 83%. I did a reboot about 4 hours ago, so don't have accurate screen-on stats. But I'm never at 83% this time of day with the Hyperion.
ANyone else experience good, then later, poor performance from this battery?
In the beginning I head awesome battery power. Now the battery is horrible I only get 2 hours screen time at 65 percent. Any ideas? Also undervolted and running 1.8mhz but battery still runs hot.
