EMEA_GB - Acer Iconia Tab A100

I have the Acer A100 running 2.007.04_EMEA_GB, has anyone had this auto update yet? or is there any word when we will get the ICS update here in the UK?
also if I were to flash one of the ICS roms or the 3.2GEN1 rom, would I need to root the Tablet first? or is it just put the update.zip on the external SD and boot into recovery?
Cheers

I got the OTA update to my 2.007.04_EMEA_GB this morning here in Quebec (07/05). I was concerned because all the comments seemed to be about GEN1 or 2, but decided to just be patient. Nothing had led me to believe that Acer wouldn`t provide an update despite some of the hysteria that was being whipped up in some threads over on acertabletforums. The Acer website stated the roll out would take a week or so and previous experience with phone updates has taught me you can wait up to a month for these things to happen.
I was reluctant to use the full ROM provided by Zeronull as I didn`t want to change my tablet version to a GEN1 as I still have 9 months of warranty (which would have been invalidated). Until Acer release the source so the modders can bring significant changes in performance/functionality, I`ve avoided the temptation to install CWM.
The update came in two parts the same as for the GEN1/2. The first brought Honeycomb up to date and the second was ICS. It is perhaps worth noting that update only appeared when I checked manually rather than waiting for an auto check.
I don`t have my tablet to hand at the moment to give you the full ROM version, but I recall it ended in a 15. Crucially though, it is still an EMEA_GB version of the ROM with all the language packs included.
Performance is MUCH improved, with boot up time now at 50sec where previously it took 1min20.
Zen Pinball scrolls super smoothly in the close up view now whereas it lagged in HC.
Both cameras seem to register colour better than before as experienced on Skype this morning (though they are still very mediocre). Anecdotally, audio seemed a bit louder too with me not needing the volume at max the hear the caller. This however could just be the individual circumstances of the call and I will test more later.
Browsing is faster with pages like Eurogamer and Engadget loading quicker and not "tiling" when scrolling down fast. Also, the ability to customize the font size makes reading web pages for extended periods much more comfortable.
Apologies for being a bit long winded; I hope my response was helpful.

Slow performance after WM6.5 upgrade

Hi, I have a Verzion TP2 and finally took the plunge to do the VZW WM6.5 upgrade.
Bad decision! I'm experiencing really slow performance and reduced battery life.
I like some of the new features, but the slow performance is not acceptable.
Anyone have any good advice for speeding things up? I know disabling sense UI will help, but then it would just be another crappy WM UI phone.
I did some searching here and wasn't able to find much. (Admittedly I didn't spent tons of time looking.)
Help is greatly appreciated! TIA!
Just put a custom rom on your phone and most of your problems are solved. And believe me, you never want to go back to stock.
THanks for the info. Not certain that I want to go away from stock because my carrier (Verizon) may get quite cranky & not want to support me or service my phone if something goes wrong.
I have an unbranded European version of the phone on the UK Vodafone network, so I'm not sure how much help I can be. But I thought I would offer some advice based on my own experiences.
Firstly I assume the version of WM6.5 you upgraded to is the Sense 2.1 version and not Sense 2.5? I remember when I first upgraded I immediately noticed a big slowdown in comparison to the WM6.1 version which flew. If it's any help, you'll soon learn to live with the slowdown and eventually it will become "normal" and it's only when you downgrade you'll realise the difference.
In terms of speeding up the device there is not much you can do, apart from reduce the ram usage. There are a couple of cabs which significantly lower the ram usage.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=532948
Secondly you might want to install an app called "memmaid" or "sktools" and disable certain processes and apps from starting up. Admittedly I don't really know what most of these processes do, but I've generally found these ones are ok to disable:
certenroll
notificationmanager
htcsipsrvc
gpsprivacy
softwaredisable
htcservices
dtpt
sqmupload
btagsvc
ssw
ussd
htcap
The same goes for startup applications where I have found these are ok to disable. (ignore the apps that are not installed on your device)
poutlook
speedbmonitor
delwmptempfolder
htcstartup
pkg
spbmobileshell (I have a switcher between this and Sense interface so dont need it on startup)
memmaidtweaks
superstarter.exe
Also, I remember seeing certain apps u can download from here that strip certain branded roms of all the bloatware. As my Touch Pro 2 is not branded, I've never used one and don't have any knowledge on them. But I'm sure someone on here will gladly point you in the right direction for a Verizon one. (If it indeed exists)
You might also want to install "advancedconfig" where you can tweak certain things in your phone to speed it up a bit.
I realise you don't want to go down the custom rom route, but unfortunately it may the only way to achieve what you want. I've now customised my official WM6.5 Sense 2.1 rom to how I want it (whilst waiting for my upgrade so I can switch to something like the HTC Desire on Android) and therefore don't use a custom rom, but I've tested the vast majority of the custom roms and I'm sure you'll find something you like. In your case, I'd suggest a hybrid of WM6.1 with the Sense 2.5 interface. If you can get your head around the lack of smooth scrolling in certain apps and what-not, you'll find a nice balance of speed and a very pretty sense 2.5 interface. (I personally couldn't get my head around it haha!)
I'd very much like to use a custom rom as I quite like Sense 2.5, but there was always a problem with the text message app. Be it the very slow "HTC Messaging" or the problem with the unread count after disabling it. I haven't tried a custom rom in a few months now so I'm not sure if this has been resolved. If so, can someone please let me know as I can't keep hard resetting my phone to test.
Anywayz good luck, and I hope this helped a bit. I don't come on this site too often but I will bookmark this page and try and remember to check it so if you have any questions, feel free to ask.
Thanks fade to black for your well laid out response.
I am also waiting to upgrade to the Desire next month but I am not sure I want to get rid of my Touch pro 2. I am so used to the hardware keyboard plus even though I would have had the phone for 1 year by 30 July, it looks brand new. Carrying 2 smartphones about is not an option for me. I have also just had the screen replaced under warranty after it developed newton rings. HTC returned the phone with the latest WM6.5 i.e. with Sense 2.5 and it seems very smooth. No crashes or nothing since I have had it back about a week now.
You're very lucky then as I still have a year left on my contract :-( Lol..
Yeah losing the hardware keyboard is a bit worrying, but i've not had the HTC Wizard, then the Kaiser, and then the Touch Pro 2. So to be honest I'm quite looking forward to a "thin" device for once. Hopefully will be able to get used to the onscreen keyboard.
You could always try waiting a few more months until HTC release an android device with a keyboard? Tbh it's quite surprising how they haven't already.
@Fade2Black101 Thanks for the suggestions! I have begun looking at things and immediately went for disabling the push internet because my memory is a bit tight. Well, instead of installing the CAB file I went in to manually edit the registry and found that it was not enabled in my ROM. :-(
I'm going to try some of the other stuf you suggested, but have not had time as of yet.
I probably shouldn't be, but I am shocked that Verizon released an update that brings the phone to it's knees in terms of performance.
was there a noticable difference in ram usage after editing the push setting? I remember when I tried doing it manually and it didnt have the same effect as installing the cab. So unless you noticed a big change, i'd suggest using the cab.
I don't have Verizon, but, if the rom's out there for Verizon are like the GSM ones, you can probably download the "stock" Verizon Rom, in case you need warranty service. Just flash back to the stock version before returning it.
Of course, if you phone is unbootable, then, you're pretty much screwed

I checked the registry and the settings weren't even there except for one and it was set to disabled. Also when I check the task manager under processes, opera isn't there. So I'm pretty sure that push internet is not running on my phone.

DISCONTINUED - [ROM][02-june-11][patch update] A7Comb (Honeycomb 3.0) v0.2a

The adaption of the newly released VegaComb / honeycomb 3.0 for our tegra2 brothers (advent vega and Adam) and is getting to a state where its usable and the latest alpha4 release for Vega is working quite well on Folio100 as well. with a few modifications of course...
I cannot take full credits for the intensive work done on this honeycomb 3.0 , that is primarily done by NotionInk Adam and Advent Vega developers , which are: MrGuy , newbe5 , corvus , HomerSp I added some kernel changes and image adjustments to support A7.
Download A7Comb 0.2a patch update here
installs like any other "Update.zip", rename the downloaded file to Update.zip
Download A7Comb 0.2 full image update here
installs like any other "Update.zip" (extract the Update.zip from this downloaded zip file) and make sure you "wipe" / factory reset.
Alternate kernel, with original softkeys enabled can be downloaded here
this is also used when you change density setting to 130, so you get the "gingerbread" launcher running instead.
Rename this download to Update.zip and copy directly to sdcard. no unpacking for this is required.
So what is status on a7 port.
- Wifi works, you need to reboot the first you enable it, and it will scan correctly.
- touchscreen seems 100% ok. (did not test multitouch apps)
- Adobe Flashplayer blank (just keep pressing upper left corner like normal to get fullscreen and it works)
- too many apps in the apps list makes them go outside screen.. one solution might be to change density. see build.prop and maybe try 110 instead of the current 120.
You can write whatever status or reported finding, but please check, its not already in the advent/vega issue list, as it share alot with their image.
I will do what is possible to bring it to a better state, but i cannot promise anything and maybe patches from vega/adam might actually work on A7 depending on what they change. (if its a patch)
v0.2a
- Increased 2d/3d performance
- polaris office fixes
- brightness control fix
v0.2 updates
- using newest updates from VegaComb (Gmail and other googleapps now shows correctly)
- Market can now be used for login with an Googleaccount.
reserved for me
I did get bigrushdog to take a look into making us a kernel he is the one who has been working on them for the xoom.
And its online.
Thanks for HC dexter I am testing it now...
Been playing with it for a few hours. touch on the screen is hit or miss at best. Market is a non-starter. Titanium Backup is crashing every other app install. Unable to load Amazon App Store anymore (just stuck in a non-ending registering cycle) But on a good note looks great in landscape, Portrait not so much. Wifi started right up after restart and found my network just fine. Will play a little bit more.
Google Apps working now!!
Ill post the new image later on.. and "Books" now stays (was automatically removed before)
Had to revert back to 1.42, no soft key work. Will wait for new update..

softkeys disabled.. Honeycomb do not use them anymore
Look at the bottom left, thats your control buttons.. thats pretty much what as example "motorola xoom with honeycomb 3.0" looks like now.. so its no error , i disabled those on purpose..
problem is that you got half the screen size of a "certified" tablet, so not much room for pressing buttons and resolutions very low.. so you're missing alot due to the lack of space.. and thats pretty much why A7 is never getting a proper honeycomb when minimum requirements are 1280x800
Soft keys were removed If I had read correctly due to the fact HC has them and dex seen no reason to have two of them. I like the idea of not having them means you don't have to worry about hitting them on accident

no, i used StreamTVNetwork's released source from their website..
you cannot use other devices unless you once again try to adapt the drivers to the kernel, which is a big one, since no one did, you can imagine how much work it takes..
you modifiy the existing kernel you got for your device, which the git changes where possible into your existing code, and update where it requiress it.
So we could maybe get the 1.5Ghz update, but im not sure if i can extract and diff it so we can implement into the a7 kernel.
I wasn't meaning did you use that kernel. I guess I could have been a bit clearer. What I meant was seeing how that kernel is adapted to be used with HC could that be off benefit to a dev for our a7. Using it as a guide to some degree
This may be a silly question but...with a dedicated gpu could not the ROM resolution actually be resized to fit the A7? I mean this is not a case of trying to increase resolution (at its native resolution you can't get more than it can reproduce) but down converting it. In other words (This may be a bad example) a standard 720p television that can receive a 1080p signal but down-converts it to 720p.

with the next update, im uploading in some hours you can use Market, then download the "Density" app, which can change density (not resoluion) but everything becomes smaller and its harder to hit the soft buttons in lower left side, so you know (as i tried it)
Hi Dexter: Thanks for your work. I m new w A7 and try yet this update but bluetooth not turn on...
wait for you new release. Thanks again.
v0.2 is online
V0.2 is online. Got Googleapps login fixed, so you can use Market and Gmail (Using apps from latest VegaComb)

i can almost say 100% Bluetooth will never work on this rom!
so don't wait for it, then you can start looking for a new tablet with 3.0
Notice the 02 image is much smaller than previous image, about to test this one..I think GB will be out best bet for the A7, I am satisfied with froyo, if HG is out of our reach how about Gingerbread..is it possible Dexter?..

no, basically a7 is stuck on in 2.2. a 2.3 release still require a formal 2.6.36. kernel which vendors do not adapt drivers for, so if any 2.3 arrive, it will be like this one, using a 2.6.32.9 kernel. maybe with a few patches upto 2.6.32.34 or so, but still using the old drivers vendors delivered..
the guys found out several "libs" of 40MB+ were not needed at all, so i removed them as well..
Weird, Upon first install i recived " Installation aborted" Due to some E:Can't find entry for META-INF/com/google/android/update-binary. Any ideas? Trying install again from fresh download.
Update: No go 2nd time around..... ?

[Q] preliminaries prior flashing an A101

Hey there!
i'm pretty new to modding android and recently got an A101 from a colleague - i think still one of the two best devices in the 7" format with only the Huawei Medipad providing the same functionality.
Anyway, i'd love to try something new and am already rooted with ZeroNull's method wich worked like a charm. Now that i've read many threads in this forum the past week i'm a little bit concerned about some things. First of all, when i'm in stock recovery my power button isn't working, so i cannot make any input besides selecting the menu-entries. Is it likely the case, that i would be facing this issue when installing a custom recovery? Since TWRP has a touch gui i shoudn't be aware of this, right?
Further A101 specific questions i wanne be 100% sure of, since there's no A101-Forum:
- i'm fine with installing bootloaders like TWRP or CWM made for the A100?
- aswell ZeroNull's unlock bootloader method?
- which custom ROM's do support 3G? I'm thinking about pio_masaki's Jellytime Sosei, his CM10 build, or KEBBERSROM...(?)
rather an ubuntu related question:
Am i fine with installing the packages: android-tools-adb & android-tools-fastboot or do i need the full - Android-SDK?
The most important thing for me is to get rid of acers bloadware, so i'm planning to install TWRP followed by a nandroid backup and kiling them softly *fingerscrossed*

Cwm and twrp are recoveries, not boot loaders, and are fine for the 101, no worries there. Everything for the a100 works for the 101 except the Roms, a100 ROMs on a101 kills 3g. You lose 3g, period. Cm10.1 I had some experimental 3g stuff in there but I never heard back on that.
Maybe I'll see about adding it to cm10.

Thats too bad to hear but i was expecting this. Just thaught that CM10 could have 3G functionality since some friends are using cyanogen on their phones. And since Sosei lacks of GPS it's not an alternative for me either. After all i convinced my wife to buy the a101, so that we can use it as navigation aswell ;P
well well, i really would appreciate the 3G Feature in your CM10, but i dont wanne hassle so - just if you have time for it of cause.

It can have 3g just fine, I've asked a few times for the 3g ril files from 101 users wanting me to build for them, they always vanish and I never hear back about it.
A100 just had its rotation for builds last night / this morning so it'll come up again sometime between wed-fri I think. Been looking at updating the black bean build and maybe adding AOKP as well, I'll use them for testbeds. I may go ahead and just do an extra day on the A100 and see about getting a potential 3g build up for you.
Side note, sosei will use gps if you use the newer cm10 boot.img.
Current rotation is:
Nexus 7 holds priority as I've been invited to Team Sorcery as their N7 dev.
Toshiba Thrive 4.2 development, 4.1.2 updates and kernel work (voodoo sound) comes second as they've been extremely generous to me.
Droid DNA aosp porting as the device was pretty much donated
Slight GNex work as needed, rare
A100 is bottom/last as I don't own one, luckily fixes from the thrive usually directly move over to the A100
Other devices I don't own.
I have a few things planned for the A100 for some nice updates and releases to jeep you guys in a variety of ROMs, like AOKP and some updates to the cm9 kernel I use.

thats of cause comprehensible, since these iconias are quite old, right. And if i didnt needed the (3g)/hdmi (looking forward for ubuntu for android) i guess i would have baught an Nexus 7 aswell. However, in two weeks i got an exam and i'm investing way too much time right now in reading about all that stuff here so if you could direct me were to read about this 3g ril files or tell me how i can find them on the mashine i'll send it to you. I've read something about the build.prob but no mentions about 3g, cellular or ril or whatsoever in it. Also a "find" gave me nothing.
Unfortunately i have to read some annoying §&"/%§ now but i've set up the email notification now.

[Q] Rootbox 4.2.1 2/12/13 Release Issues/Help

I cannot post in the development section, so here is my issues with the latest release 2/12/13.
Voice search crashes...maybe related to the newest GApps? Though I used the most recent release with the 1/24/13 release and voice search worked great. But I use it with this release, I get a white screen, then usually back to home screen...but intermittently my phone will restart itself.
Next issue is still the camera...it's mostly okay, but sometimes still freezes/crashes. Though it's stability has improved so far...though I'm not quite 24hrs in.
Then there is scrabble...it crashed the hell outta my phone, like to the point I had to hold the power button for about 30 seconds because the phone hardlocked and the graphics went blocky (never had that happen on the last release, even tried reinstalling)...the gf and I play back and forth, and I actually re-installed this release after not only wiping the caches like I did the first time, but wiped all data as well.
The Android Keyboard still crashes...but I am used to a different keyboard now anyways so not too big of a deal..would be nice to not have to install something else to do that job though. But fwir it seems to be a rom wide situation.
My last issue isn't necessarily related to this ROM...but to SDSwap_4.2.1. How do you install it? I try installing the zip through Team Win Install and it fails every time. I see no instructions for that version, but I did find a thread from July that has some instructions using a file manager that I may try. I have a 16gb sd card I would like to use for apps and what-not. Can I get any pointers? I am continuing my search but I would like some experienced help as well please.
Aside from that it seems to operate a little faster, but also seems to consume batteries a little faster, but I have the Hyperion 3500mAh batteries so not a huge deal. I like it, but I think I am going to go back to the last release as it seems far less buggy in my experience. Thanks to those behind these roms, I haven't tried anything else aside from Rootbox. I am looking forward to future releases and enjoying this phone for a long time.

you need to use my gapps ...1/20/2013 ... battery issues come from kernel .... use the swapsd zip in the aosp patches section ...
:good:
Well I flashed your gApps, now things are working much much better! Also used teh SwapSD zip from the AOSP section and that worked like a charm as well. Mind if I ask what the one on your Rootbox page is for then? Any way to add a note to that page to not use that one or a link to the one on the AOSP Mods page?
Thanks again for your hard work on Rootbox...it is so nice and smooth and now much more stable. I appreciate your efforts and will be donating when my next paycheck comes around. Cheers!
EDIT: Also I forgot to add, a problem that I have had since I started using Rootbox...the damn phone vibrating when you use the touchscreen keyboard of any kind. Turning this feature off in settings does not change a thing...I have tried different versions of rootbox and gapps between two Glides to no avail. More of an annoyance than anything. Not worth giving up Rootbox for though!

[Q] Discussion about LG G3 android system

Hi to all of you. I recently did buy a LG G3 with KitKat 4.4.2. Phone is awesome, battery lasts a lot for this screen over a day and a half (medium usage), without lagginess, maybe after restart it takes about 1 second to find everything but generally i am very happy with my purchcase. I have some questions though. Recently i got a OTA update about sth vcalled 20e. Its an update ~555mb and after some search i found out that this is the Lollipop official firmware. After plugging my phone into the LG PC Suite, i found out that even a newer version is available the 20f firmware ~over 1gb. Here starts my questions. Is it worth to go from kitkat to jellybean? Or is it better to stick with kitkat until they fix all the bugs i found out on forums. (So far i saw battery doesnt last so long, wireless charging has problems, lte doesnt work on most devices, others said about lagginess, most apps do not work with the new ART system). So what are your thoughts about this? Also i want to remove some google apps like google drive, and i want to remove this McAfee. Is there any possible way to do that easily without ruining my phone?

Stay on 4.4.2. Most of your research is correct - 5.0 is laggy, drains battery faster, there is "while on wireless charger, screen turns itself on constanly after charge reached 100%" bug, etc.
No, on 5.0 you can delete mcafee only via code from their support. And there is no way to delete Gapps wout root, which can only be obtained by flashing prerooted rom.
About apps - 99.9% of apps do work with ART. However, some - like Webkit-based apps - do crash sometimes.
About lte - only affects people who bought phones that were intended for different region. Region can be changed, btw, so it's not a real problem - it's just a ton of n00bs whining about "bug" they brought on themselves.

So you propose to stick with KitKat 4.4.2 and wait a couple of months until Lollipop gets better?, because i also heard the new art system is faster and more reliable. And generally the Lollipop is meant to be faster than kitkat. If you all advise me so, i will keep this thread open so that i can reply back or even ask more when the time comes

Well, i do advise to stick to 4.4.2 until LG fixes 5.0. However, there are thousands of members on xda. You may want to hear other's opinions before deciding anything.
P.S.: ART is faster than dalvik, there is no compilation-in-runtime overhead.
I'd wait and see if it eventually gets to 5.0.2. In earlier versions of LP, there is a memory leak that causes the system to slow down after awhile. 5.0.2 apparently fixes this. However, I have 5.0.2 on my Nexus 7 tablet and after awhile, I still notice performance issues that require a reboot, so I don't know if they really have the memory leak fixed or not. That's a pretty nasty bug that needs to be fixed before I install it on this phone.
Currently, KK runs great. And, if you want the LP look, you can do a few things:
Install Nova launcher and switch to LP icons
Install Xposed (which won't work on LP) and there is an Xposed module to give you the LP nav bar icons
KK on this phone runs great for me. No issues and I have no reason to go to LP at this time. Until they get the memory leak fixed, no dice for me. I love having a phone that doesn't require a reboot.
Agreed with most of the above. I actually upgraded mine to Lollipop. The experience was horrific. I went back to Kitkat and absolutely have no issues with the phone. It's a dream compared to Lollipop.
I also rooted and use the Tweaksbox to add lollipop styling. I won't be moving to lollipop again any time soon.

My advice is go for it. In my experience with the lollipop update all those little hick ups that appear occasionally (especially in animations and while pulling down notification bar) are gone. Lollipop is fluid and smooth, and rock stable. So far i haven't faced any FCs, glitches etc.. Everything is working fine (well, at least on my phone) and better than what it used to be on kitkat. Battery life is as good, if not even slightly better on lollipop.
I came from a nexus 5, and have been a nexus user for the last 3 generations, so i have high standards when it comes to lag and performance.
P.s. i have the 32gb/3gb RAM and i'm on stock firmware.
As an answer from LG Hellas, i got this: That the phone is working whole better and faster than kitkat (as lollipop), and that all errors are fixed. Also the lollipop update can use the whole processing power of the phone and as a result toghether with the art system, the phone is working better and faster with less battery drain than before. Also downgrading to their lg shops costs :/ . That was their answer to me.
I have a question for you guys. When i play a song sometimes particular songs show wrong album arts. And the correct are blurry. What size should i make them in order to show as good quality?
EDIT
Anything from 1000x1000 up to whatever you like you have some decent and good quality on any song. Because i found a problem and i think many of you out there have this problem as well. If some album arts display wrong, change that track's album to something.
