Contact jinx or allejandarismo
The do unlock for a small fee
To root you don't always need to unlock the bootloader.
If on gb.42 or ics then you can root using the easy root options. If on .65 then you will need to downgrade to .42 then root then ota to latest version.
Unlocking with setools is good and safe and still able to use pcc or seus.

I'm the new owner of the xperia arc , i've tried to look for questions about my issue, i've bought my xperia from a stranger ,the phone box is branded with Vodafone Spain, the phone is unlocked ( the method he used i don't know) and it has android version 2.3.2, if i try to make a software update with Pc Companion it will remain unlocked or not ??? can pls somewone help me ?
million tnx !
try and connect using fastboot http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1133650 , if you can then the bootloader is unlocked and you can't use the update service, you'll have to flash using flashtool/fastboot, they're in the same thread, but you can flash a pre-rooted img. if you can't connect to fastboot, you may have to root after every upgrade.

Bootloader isn't unlocked if you can boot into fastboot, you just have the possibility to do it then

for a quick review , i must unlock the bootloader to do the software update without locking my xperia arc, correct ?
I have just rooted using Superoneclick with ZergRush, (bootloader is still locked), and uninstalled some of the bloat (video unlimited, timescape, etc....), using Titanium.
My question is that when Sony Ericsson release an OTA update (i'm currently on 2.3.4). Will I be able to update without any problems?
If not how would I go about updating?
I have an unbranded generic R800i (UK model).
Thanks.
(sorry if this question has been answered before).
You will be able to update without any problems

Not really bothered about unlocking the boot loader atm. Just wanted to root so I could remove some of the bloat.

Actually if you delete any files from /system/app/ you will not be able to ota update (update will fail). But afaik you can still use seus/pc companion to update.

Oh ok. That's not too bad then
Hi!
I want to flash new kernel but earlier I must unlock bl. I will do this with official metod but i'm afraid that Sony and my operator(T-Mobile) dont wanna repair my phone when for example: my vol up button will destroy of using recovery, cause of unlocked bl. Can I lock bl when I will give my phone to warranty. Also I wanna know that, they wont be able to check that I unlock bl earlier?. Sorry for my bad english

They should repair all hardware issues so wouldn't worry about relocking it, any software issues can be repaired here.
When I will have software issue I will repair it by myself When I hear that Arc S wont have JB and any updates I decide to unlock bl. And last question. Can I relock my bl when I want and after that unlock again?

Does anyone know how to make a bootloader that says no change to yes?

You can't unlock bootloader if your device service info says "bootloader unlock allowed:no"

I was reading on the Sony forums a while back that you can. It was in the support for the Z forum so I don't know if it will work on the M. If the phone is locked to a network (the most common form of bootloader unlock:no) and you unlock it and THEN flash an unbranded firmware the bootloader status will change from no to yes. That post was made by a Sony support person too, but as I said, I have no idea if it would work on the M.

Hello New-Moderr,
You could contact Sony Support and ask if they could change the status of your phone after you've unlocked the sim of it. That might just do the trick, some people have reported that Sony will do it.

I'm not sure about over the air updates. However you can update your phone through PC Companion if it is rooted but the bootloader is NOT unlocked, and you can also flash an ftf onto the phone using flashtool if your phone is rooted even if the bootloader is unlocked.
There is also several methods of rooting 4.3, one of the easiest being towelroot as it is a one click root app for use on your mobile and it has the remount reboot fix enabled so you don't have to worry about that.

In the dialer type *#*#7378423#*#* (*#*#SERVICE#*#*) and click on Service Info and the Configuration. Under rooting status you will see a string of text. If it says Bootloader unlock allowed (either yes or no, it doesn't matter) your device has a locked bootloader. If it says Bootloader unlock: Yes then you have an unlocked bootloader.

Not at all, there are many root methods available for 4.3 now. The most effective is towelroot, if you download the most recent version from the website (do this from your phone as it is an apk) you don't even have to run the remount/reboot fixer as it is embedded into the app.
I have rooted my phone XMD its now 4.2 how can I update it to 4.3??
