Okay so on my wife's epic 4g running cm9 under the settings there is a 4g section and her toggle wimax works. On this phone on the same rom I don't have that option. And the wimax toggle doesn't work. Is this just temporary or does this phone really not get wimax. Cuz I don't get lte where I live and 3g is so slow.

Yes, the Galaxy Nexus doesn't have WiMax, its not just your ROM. It has EVDO (3G) and LTE (4G). Since LTE isn't even starting to launch for a couple more months, expect to keep waiting.

So I have talked to many people in my area. (Arizona) and from what i'm hearing I will never have any 4g.coverage out here because sprint is going to LTE. Does anyone know if that is true or will they be expanding the 4g coverage into my area? I don't feel its right if I have a 4g phone but will never get it unless I get the galaxy nexus which will get there LTE in 2013.

Thankfully and somehow my school have 4g connection so when i go to school, its like internet heaven..
Ok so the question is.....
Will LTE coverage only be in areas where you have gotten or get 4g coverage or will LTE expand coverage a lil further?
I've got the sprint galaxy nexus

Are you asking if Sprint is going to expand their 4G LTE coverage? If so, yes.

Yes, thank you
I was just wondering if you would only be able to get lte where u would normally only get 4g coverage

Read this site they have a lot of info on the 4g roll out

Sprint is strategically releasing LTE in limited markets soon. They will of course keep rolling it out over time to the best places they can. There's nothing that indicates they're going to just overlay their current WiMax network with LTE in that order. Eventually they want to cover their entire 3G network with LTE but that's so far off you can't even consider it right now.
It's going to be a very small, slow roll out.
And btw LTE is 4G. You need to refer to Sprint's legacy 4G network as "WiMax". That cuts down on the confusion...
I can't get 4G LTE to connect with my GNEX. When I was on stock I got 4G LTE, since I rooted and started using ROMs I haven't been able to get 4G. I switch the data switch to LTE/CDMA and never get 4G. I tried updating my profile, prl, radio, everything. I get decent 3G speeds but just wanna know the reason why I don't get 4G. Is it the Roms? Or..
BTW I'm in San Antonio, Texas and we do have 4G LTE here.

Was there last week and have been running a custom Ron since I first got the phone. Both of my gnex and my bros gnex got LTE. What rom?

Well wasn't running it then but am now. Make a nandroid and flash jellybro? Try that see if that works. If so then CNA has an LTE issue.

Will do that right now. Got time.
Hopefully it's just CNA.

The lte towers in Texas are wonky as hell. I've had 4g on and off at my apt since July 10th or so but it never stays on. Search the market for an app called Sensorly. It is the most accurate LTE map I've come across. BTW I think sprint users should start getting on their asses about this. The whole reason I upgraded from epic is because they promised it in Dallas etc by the middle of July. But you can tell by lookin at the true coverage area that its just a joke to them.

I thought all at least most of San Antonio would have 4G LTE. Sprint 3G speeds are fine, but every other main carrier has 4G. Sprint's slacking. On the coverage map for the 4G LTE all of San Antonio is highlighted. So untrue. I know it just launched and is still kinda new, but i haven't even gotten a chance to use it or test it.
We're from the same city! I thought I should just trow that in there! Flash back to stock and if it keeps happening just go to a sprint store

Does your 4G work?
And wooooooooooo, Go Spurs Go!
Sprint 4g LTE is working here in Houston
~Samsung Galaxy SIII (SPH-L710) - Blazer ROM v1.6 - TWRP~
I'm saying its not on at all.. but the coverage isn't anywhere near what it should be. At least in the dfdub.
I see that my 4G is on, but can't figure out how to turn it off as I don't have 4G service in the area. Anybody know how to turn this off? Also, stupid question, but is this phone able to connect to 4G and 4G LTE, or just 4G LTE?

You have to go into the mobile networks under settings to shut off lte. The only 4g is lte, wimax does not function on this phone.

Thanks! So regular 4G is the same as WiMax? Sorry, I just upgraded from the S1 (Epic) with just 4G.
Wimax was going to be 4G but sprint trashed that idea and switched to LTE/4G.. but the 4G on S3 is LTE not Wimax.
I'm hoping someone can help me out . I went from a Photon (2.1.3 I think) having a toggle to switch 3g to 4g to the SIII Jellybean mod without this option .
Is it hiding? Is there a working app/widget to switch from one to the other ?
I found the toggle to be usefull cause here in Portland, Or 4g is hit and miss.
I found a 4g toggle on market but it just sends me to Mobile Networks and does nothing.
Thanks

There is no 4g toggle nor a widget that I know of that works.

FWIW, the S3's LTE doesn't chew through battery nearly as much as the Photon's Wimax. It doesn't drain much more than a normal 3G connection. You probably won't be able to tell much difference between the battery life with 4G on or off. I just leave mine on, and I don't have any battery drain.
Also, in case Sprint did a terrible job of informing you, the S3 can't use Wimax, so you'll be without 4G until Sprint deploys LTE in Portland. Go to s4gru.com and check the forums for info on your market's Network Vision rollout.
