[Q] [Question] GNex Random shutdown - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

hey everyone,
i have been noticing that my GNex has been randomly shutting down for no reason.
I originally thought it was a ROM that I flashed that has caused this. But even after wiping the data/factory reset, wiping the davik cache and everything and then loading back a backup from a previous ROM that was functioning perfectly, it is still doing it.
Recently, been talking to some friends who are also using GNex and they seem to be seeing a similar issue as well.
Anyone here been seeing this on their GNex lately?

Nope. Only reboots ive had are from aggressive undervolts. I am dialed in and good to go. No shutdowns.

Sure. Why not? Ez plug.
let it be.

I was having this issue, but mine would cause the phone to turn off completely. It seems that when the back part of the phone was knocked or hit in a certain area it would make the phone turn off.
I fixed it by jamming some paper between the battery terminal and the back cover. Seems to have stoped the switchoff

I seem to have realized that the phone is turning off whenever I have it in my pocket. I have left it on my desk or night stand and everything is fine, but whenever I put in my pocket, it would turn off.
Will try to get the paper trick a try.
Thanks guys!

just want to update everyone.
i have managed to fix my phone at the end.
things that i end up trying to get my phone fixed:
wipe data + dalvik cache, flashed the AOKP rom again - not work
wipe data + dalvik cache, then restore an old image of CM9 - not work
wipe data + dalvik cache, flashed an old Apex ROM that i downloaded before - not work
retore the phone to complete stock and unroot the phone (getting ready to go to local samsung office to have my warranty repair) - FIXED
after that point, i put my CWM recovery back on, flashed several different ROMs after that and phone is still operate just fine.
Thanks everyone for their help. Super happy to have fixed the phone without going to samsung.

This is what was happening to mine: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=25651624&postcount=12
A small tap to the area between the battery's connection to the phone turns mine off. It's easy to test and you'll know right away whether or not that's the problem.

Does this happen to you ?

Lately I've been really annoyed with phone, for some reason it just randomly reboots for God knows what reasons! Is this common or even a known issue ?
Are you running stock or a custom rom and kernel? I've never had a reboot with stock or on Starburst with lostkernel.

I dunno man, if that isn't happening without some 'aftermarket modifications', umm, I'd swap the damn phone. That isn't normal. I never get reboots unless I am overclocking on perf gov with everything maxed out...and that's pretty much it. If you are getting reboots just sitting there or dicking around on the internet that would be more than enough reason for me to take it in and swap it out...especially if you can reproduce the it for them.
Thanks for the replies guys, to answer your questions no I'm completely stock running stock kernel and it happens whenever I'm online or some apps will trigger it. I'd hate to restore but I think it's the only way
Ive had it a couple times.
It started after uploading app from market installing it while I was deleting one at same time
device crashed reboot took place.
From that point a had a couple reboots within days Touchwiz error displaying automatically going to phone keypad no escape from it.
I ended up doing factory reset fixed it all is well
did you by chance take an SD card out if another phone and pop it into that phone? if so, back up whatever data is on it, and try formatting it (if that cures the reboots, obviously something on the sd is corrupt and not cooperating with the system... dont restore anything from that backup you took after formatting) I would then try a facotry reset if the previous doesn't work. if the factory reset doesn't cure it, I'd swap the phone.

Thanks guys, I installed all the apps I could to the sd card. In other words all the apps were in the internal memory and that seems to fix the issue.
I'm not rooted and I'm getting random reboots.

[Q] My Galaxy Nexus keeps re-booting

I was running Paul's custom ROM for the past week or so. I plugged my phone in to a portable charger because the battery was low. This is not the first time I have used this charger on this phone. After a few minutes the phone rebooted. I found this odd so I tried to figure out what was going on. I unlocked the device and went into settings....phone rebooted again. I tried reflashing the MoDaCo ROM, reflashing the original ROM and resetting the device. It still does it. Im still new to Android platform (moving away from a shameful iPhone) so Im lost on what the problem could be. Any ideas?
did you undervolt and tick set on boot without testing voltages?

No. I didn't change any of that. My phone is unusable
I think one of my apps is causing it. Is that possible even though I'm not running the app?
I have no idea. I think youre leaving out something.

After i restore to factory everything works fine. It starts again (doesn't matter which ROM I'm using) when Google syncs the apps I've downloaded to the phone. It's stable right now until I figure out what the hell is going on.

Right. It works fine until Google starts to sync my data from my account. Is there a way to pinpoint which app is causing the damage?
Nevermind. It does it anyway. Hardware issue? Overheating issue?

Rooted, Now Shutdown Gets Stuck at Pink Goodbye Screen.

Hi all!
A few days ago I rooted my stock T989(ICS) using the galaxys2root method and everything went well. The only issue I ran into though, when I turn off my phone normally (hold power then shutdown), it will get stuck at the pink goodbye screen (as did about 3 others in the comment section of the GS2Root website). When I was unrooted, turning off the device normally, it would hangup a bit at the pink goodbye screen as well, only for about 30 seconds at the most though. In this current state, I've ran this over 5 minutes and it still stays at the pink goodbye screen.
I didn't see this to be too much of an issue since I use notification toggle, which has a a restart and power off toggle that I can access in the notification bar for rooted users. But last night I didn't charge my phone so it was dead when I woke up. The thing is, it was hot. So I'm thinking it got hung up on the pink goodbye screen until the very last drop of battery left. So it just worry's me in the long run if it happens again here and there of affecting the battery. It showed 0% when I plugged in to charge and did take a while to go past that number.
Some background:
-Completely stock rom and kernels (know nothing about flashing/intimidating to do for me as I don't want to ruin anything)-slowly looking into it though
-Only rooted because I wanted to save some game data.
-I've already done factory reset but it didn't fix the issue.
Hopefully any input will help out others with the same problem as well!

Darkside Cache Wipe always fixes my issues. It's said not to use CWM fix permissions or cache wipes. Using the Darkside also aligns your card.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
Thanks guys! So DarkSide it is then.
So in order to do this, it's essentially just like rooting, right?
This is how I'm thinking of it based on GS2Root's video:
-Boot into clockwork mod recovery
-Install zip from sd card
-Choose zip from sd card
-Find DarkSide Cache Wipe in where ever folder I put it in (which I finally found the download link and hoping this is the right one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1477955)
-Choose the zip and apply.
-Done?
Are these the right steps? Or is there anything special after and/or before that I need to do? Don't have to install the DarkSide rom beforehand?
Also, would I ever need to uninstall this for an update? I just read somewhere on my drippler app that t mobile or samsung will provide a future update for bug fixes, but not jelly bean.
That's correct steps then just reboot. It's a script that does what cwm should do plus more. It will wipe both cache partitions then properly fix permissions. It's not installing anything so it won't effect any future updates. Also doesn't matter what Rom your on, it's not specific. Just a fix for cwm not working correctly.

darkside wipe deleted your rom and its data... thats what its designed to do.... do you cant go past the start screen because there is nothing to boot too... reflash your rom or get a different rom.

Did you run the superwipe as you are directed to do? it is a pretty simple process and it will not wipe your ROM.

Superwipe will in fact wipe your ROM. Cache wipe will not wipe your ROM, and will probably help with the reboot hangs.
Superwipe is for before you flash a ROM.
Cache wipe is for problems after an install.

Since the RC is a continuation of the nightlies, I say stick to one thread. There's already duplicate questions on each thread and it becomes way to hard to follow 2 threads.

I get stuck everytime unless I use the Darkside Cache Wipe. After running that, RC2 loaded like a dream. Still searching for Wifi Calling though.
*edit* I flashed RC2 from the last nightly. But everytime I would use CWM to flash the latest nightly, I would have weird errors, (stuck on boot screen, CWM wouldn't start the install process, etc.) I kept a copy of DARKSIDE CACHE WIPE and decided to try to run that prior to install. Flashed RC2, booted no problem.

It is recommended that you do a full wipe before updating between nightlies, as generally significant amount of bugs are fixed and new codes implemented, so there are alot of changes. Not doing a wipe can interfere with these changes. If you don't want to re-install all the apps again after every rom flash, try 'app2zip' from the market.
Here's the link for that app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=scd.app2zip&hl=en
It will let you pack all the apps you currently have and want into a CWM flashable zip, which you can flash right after you wipe and install a new rom to get back all your apps.

There's no porting required. Just get the firmware/stock ROM of the galaxy s2 and dig into the /system/media/audio/ui folder on your computer and there you will find all the click sounds, as well as unlock sounds. Just copy the ones you want from your computer into the sd card of your phone and then go into the same directory in your phone (the /audio/ui folder) and replace the click noises with the ones you copied over, making sure that the name of the files is the exact same as the ones you are replacing. Also make sure that the file permissions are the same as the other files in that folder. Done!
Hope that helps guys.
Cheers.
I am currently running RC2 with TDJs Venom 4 CM9 #3 Kernel. Using the badass governor to conserve battery. Usually this governor is fantastic and is amazing with performance and saving battery.
For some reason today, this ROM/Kernel/Governor combo is draining battery a lot faster than normal and I am not sure why.
2 hours ago my phone was at 100% battery. It's now down to 91%, almost a 5% drop per hour. Typically I would get 8 to 10% battery drop in 5 hours time running the badass governor. I haven't used my phone more today than I normally would, so battery shouldn't be dropping as quickly.
CPU Spy confirms my phone is going into deep sleep and has been in deep sleep for 85% of the time. That is good and that is what I want it to do. Then GSam Battery showed that a particular app was keeping the phone awake for 29mins. I froze that particular app 30mins ago and in the 30mins since I froze the app the battery still drained 2%.
Anyone else running the same setup as me and notice faster than normal battery drain?
I dont know if this has been talked about before. For the person on the other side to hear me good I have to speak louder than usual. What i mean is, that before, i was able to whisper when i was on the phone since i work in an office, but now after the last few nightlies, i have to talk louder into the mic for people to hear me good. I was running some tests myself and i find that the pickup on the mic is very low when using the phone as normal, but the pickup is fine when using the speaker phone (Im able to whisper and the mic will pick it up). I just wanted to know if this is the remains of the underwater effect that we once had?

[Q] No data after flash, or reboot

I am having a reoccurring problem. Sometimes, when I flash a new nightly, or even just reboot my phone, I get no data. Even when I turn on wifi, it connects but stays gray instead of turning blue or teal. Same thing for my 3G. I have full bars, but it stays gray. Best way I have been dealing with it if wiping cache and reloading the rom.
I have tried going in and out of airplane mode, rebooting the phone, letting it sit for hours. I would just like to know if I'm doing something wrong.
By the way I am running CM10.
All in all, it's a small price to pay to run such a slick rom. And now that I got dual boot all figured out......much easier to try things out.

I finally figured it out. The problem seemed to be with my clock settings. I can replicate the problem by setting my clock ahead and reboot. Then I will not connect. I figured out it was a Google account sign in issue. If I then reset my clock to the correct time and reboot, no problems.
Just had a question about dual boot. Was it easy to setup? How hard is it to go back to single boot? I would imagine having two roms would take up a ton of space.
