Guys....
I just came with noob question here.......can I use my dopod 810 to read an usb flash disk(flash drive)?
using cable converter from mini usb 5 pins to Female usb....and flash disk.
thanks
Short answer - I think no, your Trinity can't be used to read a USB flash drive, particularly not without extra software.
People much more informed than me can correct me if I'm wrong, but the way I inderstand USB is that some device has to act as the "host" of the USB device. The host provides data flow control information AND power (5v). The Trinity could probably be programmed to act as a USB host (even that I'm not sure of), but I doubt there's any way for the Trinity to provide 5v of current from its USB jack.
The Trinity CAN be used AS a USB flash drive with some additional software, since it's designed to hook up to a host device normally.
Someone explain if I'm wrong.
Mike
thanks for the info mike......have you heard about "Softick Card Export"?
It makes my trinity able to read MMC or SD card....so I was wondering, if I have a cable that can connect an USB Flash disk with my trinity.....I can read USB flash disk in my device.
I am not sure that I had correct thought, maybe someone could explain to me whether my thought was correct or not.

ASAIK this is wrong. Card Export makes your Trinity ACT like a USB STICK. So you can read your Trinitiys Memory card on any pc without active sync...

Sorry, this connects your Windows Mobile device to a desktop PC as if it were a USB drive, hence the first feature “Connects Windows Mobile device as USB Mass Storage to any operation system”.
I guess it works similar to WM5torage except it will cost you $14.95 USD.
Your theory is right though, if we could make an adaptor that went from your MiniSD slot to a full size female USB then the device could read any USB drive.
A MiniSD card needs around 2-3.5 volts to operate so the devices slot must provide at least this much power. Okay a USB drive needs around 5 volts but it could be possible.
I don’t have a spare MiniSD to try this out on though.
Kind of like this or this except with a MiniSD instead of a TypeII Compact Flash card.
That would be cool

Yeah...I guess you are correct.....I have this noob thought when I needed to read an usb flash disk while I only had my D810
Using an adapter (like the link that you posted here) its a great idea. However, is there an adapter that fits mini sd?
it cant read usb devices over it's usb connector only usb host cable devices can do that and trinitry is not
guess it would be possible to develop a device which fit in the microSD slot
and had electronics to act as a usb host in 1 end and microSD card in the other but it would be pretty complex and would prob cost a great deal
much much more so if one had to pay all the developing cost oneself
Ok I have a Sandisk 16g micro sdhc card that reads and writes fine in my touch pro 2 but if I take it out and try to write to it with a card adapter it says that the memory card is write protected. Does the TP2 put some kind of write protection on it or is this an issue with the card itself?
The card is ok.
The write protection is on card adapter.
Already tried that...
Im aware of that and Ive tried two different card adapters withe lock off and no luck.

I can take the card from my (TMo) TP2, put it in my PC with an adapter, and write to it, so I don't think the TP2 is the problem.
I don't know the answer, but did you possibly format the card for some reason, maybe on the TP2? Also, I tried googling "can't write to sd card on PC" and came up with quite a few suggestions. Good luck.
NUTZ
ok well i did some searching and it appears to be something with the usb. It will read and writ just fine it i use something attached to a usb cord but it gives me the write protection message when I put it in an adapter. Go Figure.
I just got my kickstarter edition and was trying to sideload apps through usb port in ouya. At first when I plugged in the usb lights went on but nothing showed up on ouya. After fiddling the USB drive and pushing in a bit more, the drive showed up. I realised that any USB I try I have to insert it and fiddle it till it gets a connection and carefully leave it at that angle otherwise it wont detect.
Anyone else facing same issue?

All I tried so far is a FAT32 formatted 16gb USB drive and a USB keyboard. Will try out my 2tb hdd today and let you know if it picks up.
my usb kind of slip and slides out.
its not a tight fit at all, rather loose.

There have been quite a few HW issues (controllers, fan noise, USB, WiFi). People like us (xda folk) can tolerate some of these things, but this stuff is completely unacceptable to the general public. They need to fix this stuff.

android doesn't natively support ntfs in the first place. Samsung and a few other phone/tablet manufacturers add their own ntfs drivers but android on its own doesn't have them and the license for a company to add them is quite expensive (ntfs is patented and needs licensing from Microsoft) so I doubt the ouya has the drivers.
The usb issue sounds like a dodgy connection between the socket and motherboard, most likely a broken solder join (applying pressure as you are will cause further damage btw). An email to ouya support might be in order. Or if you are brave a quick session with a soldering iron should have it sorted easily.
Loose connector can also be fixed by applying pressure to the topside of the socket to bend it inwards but you can do more harm than good, an email might be an idea again.

So what file system other than fat32 does android support cause I was kinda annoyed when my ext3 drives didnt get recognized, I thought they would have drivers for them since its a linux format. So far I've been able to get fat32 and ntfs to work.

We don't have a custom kernel yet. When we do, it's pretty straightforward to do in recovery.

FAT16? Thats pretty much it. Ext3 drives do work on android but I think some root + terminal usage is needed first. ExFat and NTFS are both patented so arent guaranteed to work on all devices unless the manufacturer has licensed the patent, technically custom roms adding support for these filesystems would be in violation of the law but I doubt M$ would bother chasing it up.
My usb port its working well. I bough an usb hub with 5 ports and also works too. Now i have connected 2 memory sticks, cable keyboard, cable mouse and 360 xbox controller
This usb hub doesnt need to be outpowered, the own usb port into ouya handles with it without problem

You don't need that app. From skimming the page I think ouya already does all of that out of the box. Read through the threads about file format compatibility.

I have my 2TB NTFS drive running properly on my ouya but you need 2 things to make it work.
First you have to root your ouya second you need an app called "stickmount".
There are other apps that should work but stickmount works great for me.

USB Fix
Hi, I'm not sure how common this problem is. but, here's what fixed me.
First off I emailed OUYA support:
They replied to update firmware and test with wired mouse at "play" screen. at that point if the mouse does not work, you have verified there is a problem with the port itself.
Their next suggestion was to return it to the store where I bought it.
So, Naturally, I took it apart:
BEFORE YOU CONTINUE:: look at the usb port on your assembled console. inside you will see 2 prongs along the inside. they provide the required tension to keep good contact on the 4 usb connections and serve as a ground. Try using a small exacto knife, screw driver, or even a toothpick to bend them in a tiny bit. you want it feel snug when you inset a usb device. Not Tight, you shouldn't have to force it, but it shouldn't feel loose.
IF THAT FIXED YOUR PROBLEM:: then... go have fun! otherwise, read on.
SIDENOTE:: you might want to mark/note the orientation of the the console lid before removing, it's not overly obvious which way it goes on at reassembly.
The USB is part of a USB HDMI unijack, soldered onto the board.
SIDENOTE:: The board is grounded to the frame via a stamped metal prong that acts like a latch preventing you from removing the board. Do yourself a favor, use flashlight, don't break the prong.
Once, you have it out the solder joints you are concerned with are the 4 larger ones in a row (not the 4 that ground the housing of the unijack)
After re-soldering those 4 I can use a 16GB ntfs no problem.
None of my USB Storage Drives would work! My PSx Controller did though.
It required a Factory Reset. Now all my drives are working as they should.
There is a FAT32 format tool posted over in the Ouya Forums:
http://ouyaforum.com/showthread.php?3589-Formatting-Hard-Drive-to-FAT32&p=35834&viewfull=1#post35834
Format your drive using that tool. If that doesn't work, Factory Reset and try again.
Hi guys.
First time I bought USB-OTG adapter from China and tried it, it didnt work for me. I guessed that cable is incorrect and bought another one at shop. CheckR is said that all okay, but it still doesnt work with any flash card.
So I have 2 adapters Type C - USB A, 2 different flash cards, I tried exFAT, NTFS and FAT32, it just connect and disconnect a thousands times but doesnt mount, I could see USB1102 at explorer sometimes but it unmount in 1 second. Any suggestion about it?
I feel sorry about my English, if u cant understand, pls ask me.
Agree. It sounds like a bad cable. Try this one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00XHOGEZG?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00.
I tried a different one before this and had to send it back.

Reviews seem very hit and miss on that -- lot of folks saying it doesn't work with the 6P. Frustrating. I can't find a Type C OTG cable on amazon that has consistent positive reviews, and Benson seems solely focused on A-to-C cables.

I have a type C adapter that takes an micro SD card and it is working great with my Nexus 5x.
Have you tried opening settings then storage?
With my old Nexus 5 I used StickMount an app by Chainfire to access OTG. MM supports USB but unlike StickMount I couldn't locate my OTG device with my file manager, opening settings then storage I can access OTG.
Just installed StickMount and can access my OTG device with my file manager, so StickMount does work with the Nexus 5x. My preference is using the OTG support built into MM, rather than StickMount.
Hope this is helpful, good luck.
So guys, I have already installed StickMount. I tried once more and it mounted as picture store I saw my files but it been unmounted in 10 seconds.. I think that problem not in cable coz there are few good reviews from n5x owners.
I pre-ordered the 32gb xl, not wanting to wait a month or more for a 128gb. With 4k videos, apps and however much daydream wants to eat up though, it seems a little dismal. I was checking out https://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-connector-Android-Devices-SDDD2-032G-G46/dp/B00RBGYGPG?th=1 something like this. A usb-c storage option and kind of hoping I could mount it and store videos and junk on this little sucker. I am not sure how well it mounts, or if it only really transfers files through the manufacturers app like the description implies. Does anyone have experience with using something like this as a external storage solution to replace a SD card? Rooting would be fine, as long as I could stuff files on here and have the OS access them as if they were local.
What would be ideal for my case is if I could install apps to it like an SD card or at least have VLC be able to 'see it' and play off from it. If anyone has any insight in this or a better solution for a situation where your not on your home network, I would love the suggestions.
Using the provided USB A-C adaptor (the one for transferring info from the old phone to the new phone) I can plug in a regular USB flash drive and access the files normally through there.
Using this method, if you plug in a drive that is formatted using exFAT (default for flash drives in Windows) it will prompt you to reformat it and will do so in FAT32. So if you want files larger than 4GB, you will have to reformat it to NTFS using your computer.

So it will act just like a SD card. Cool, this is a pretty decent alternative. Maybe with the exclusion of sdcards in newer phones, it will prompt some low profile usb-c storage options, the dongle is kind of a pita, but Ill take what I can get.

Did you check the format of the card? FAT and NTFS are good to go, exFAT is not. The USB flash drive I tested with is a 64GB.
---------- Post added at 02:00 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:49 AM ----------
I also want to tack on here, NTFS seems to be working a lot more slowly for me than FAT. So unless you really need >4GB files on there, I'd reccomend FAT.

Oh I see. That's my problem too then. I tried to use PNY 128GB microSD Card Elite 85MB/s, U1 with OTG Reader (P-OTGCR128MSC3-GE) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01H5C7IIM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
The phone knows the memory is there, but can't read it. Should I reformat to NTFS maybe?
Ever since Google decided to ban external sd cards, they are intentionally making it hard for us use any types of external storage. They want to keep everyone's life data so they know about you better than you yourself know. From places you visit and pay and stay, they can match up with someone else's data and see if you're having an affair. Scary part is that your wife will probably start getting a Google ad from divorce attorneys and PI's tomorrow. She doesn't know why, but will eventually find out why. Opt-out while you can!

That was the same message I was getting while plugging in a USB flash drive that was formatted in exFAT. Reformatted it with FAT via the phone and was able to access it just fine. Formatting in NTFS led to really low read speeds for the short time that I used it, went back to FAT and it's fast again.

I dont think this is google making it difficult. Android is based on Linux, which explains why exfat and ntfs might not work by default. Fat32 has limitations but heck, it is what sd cards had to be formatted with as well anyway so its not really a limitation. What we really need is a low profile usb-c flash drive that can offer pass-through of power. The transfer speeds on usb-c are high enough where it would be a good replacement for a micro-sd.
I did not have this EXACT one.. just using it as reference, but with my Nexus 6, I had a micro SD card reader that plugged into the micro USB slot on the phone.
