OK so I have the Verizon Galaxy Nexus. I am running Aokp #5. I don't know much about Kernals, or the radios. Rite now I'm running stick on both I believe. So my question is (because I'm loosing signal a lot) what is the most current radio and what are some good Kernals for this phone/ Rom.
Its kernels not kernals.
The most current radio is the 4.0.4 one. Kernel: Franco.
All of these could of been answered if you read and didn't ask before looking for yourself.

Thanks. Was just asking a simple question. I looked around and wanted an opinion. Thanks for the spell check. Have a good day man.
P.s I doesn't hurt to ask and doesn't hurt to answer a question. Next time when you feel like giving a douche bag answer remember just pass the question up man. Some people are new, some don't know. Some aren't as advanced as you with computer stuff and are learning a new way to improve their phones. Be civil dude

Just recently some people on VZW got the 4.0.4 update OTA and it includes new radios afaik. There is a thread or maybe two about signal improvements with these new radios. As far as the kernel, Franco is a popular choice. It has a control app in the Play Store. But there are several good ones and everybody likes something different, have a look at the feature list and see what you think.

Hi there
I got a Docomo Nexus. I have a galaxy s2 also. I thought I would had the same challenges here...
Guess what... i installed Cwm. The only challenge for me. Installed latest Akop and for the first time I am not changing a rom from 3 days. Everything works here.
I am getting bored. please give dome directions to have fun and play with my phone.
For example. Is there a kernel that gives somehow better battery life? Any other rom better than Akop? Any substitute for macro feature missing in the camera app?
I used to search for perfection in galaxy S2 and I was switching between cm9, custom roms to find a perfection...please understand me, hope so...

First of all, AOKP is not the best ROM. CM9 is faster and Slim ICS is the fastest ROM with the same features as AOKP.
Secondly, I'd recommend finding something else to do with your time than worry about how your phone is "boring".

I understand your reasoning. Since we already have the latest and greatest there's not much to look forward to until Jelly Bean leaks.
Play Frisbee golf with your nexus?
zippity doo da.
Finding the answers to the questions that you asked is half the fun, for me at least. If there was a definitive "best" ROM or kernel there would be very little need for such a development based community. If you are looking for fun I would suggest looking at the market for one of the many games available.

What is true differs for every person. For example, you couldn't pay me to use AOKP (do not ask why, I won't tell you).
Do I believe that any rom is faster than any other? No I do not. Do I believe kernels can change that? Yes I do.

So what do you use? I see you're a developer: do you have your own rom? Pardon my ignorance I'm still new here. Have yet to remember a username and connect that with the work they've done.
If I guess right will you tell me? Do they work for the government and have installed keyloggers so when we say anti obama things to our friends in texts the black choppers will show up at your house, and if you tell anyone they will kill you? If so I wouldn't use it either... Or tell me why
I have gone AWOL as of last release (too much personal business to handle) but I work with a team. We put out BAMF Paradigm. I am but one member, and certainly not the main one.
My reasonings for not using AOKP are not because of that, however
I use Paradigm 1.2 with my own modifications.

I'm slightly bored as well.
I've been looking for 3rd party apps that follow the ICS guidelines. Makes the phone much more fun.

i started with AOKP and never regret it, i also tested SlimICS which for sure has not same features as aokp, i also tested liquid which is nice but only english, i also tried cm9, also nice but i miss the aokp stuff in it.
For me AOKP is the best, i always come back to it and now i will stay with it, it has everything i want and just works.
For kernel i use Imoseyons Leankernel which worked for me always the best, i get around 3h also sometimes 3 1/2h screen ontime with it, and over night it loose almost nothing.
I tried also francos kernel, which is also nice, but with it i had sod issues and other stuff, but it is still a good kernel many people love it, i will stay with Leankernel.
Just wondering if this section for the same model phone Telus offers? Cause from Telus its called S2X.
Also what is everyone favorite rom? Im coming froma Fascinate running ICS passion which worked great and i enjoyed it.
Looking for the same basically with some great battery life.

yes! every ROM here is compatible with the telus galaxy S2X.. there are a lot of really good ROM's to choose from I hate to pick a favorite..
if you are looking to try something different, then may I suggest MIUI..
I think you should try a few ROMs on your own to see which one suits you..
and remember.. just have fun with it
Which ones you guys running now? What do you like about it? Anything that dont work?
Thanks

IMO the best rom out right now is Darkside UCLE2
Just remember that if you do go with an ICS rom, read the OP carefully and follow the instructions to the T. They can be a little bit more tricky. But the smoothness and battery life is unbeatable.

I appreciate your enthusiasm, and I only speak for myself, but I think most people here will be running AOKP, CM9, MIUI, or Chimera once the minor issues with those are ironed out. Unless you are planning to offer something different than those, I don't know if your work would be fully appreciated.
Not trying to be a d*ck, just being honest. I wouldn't want you to spend your time working on a rom that nobody is going to use.

Yes we have some of the best roms available .. but those are only that great because of the developers who make them.
My advice is build and learn and ignore the haters .. maybe one day you'll have the next great rom.

to kind of continue this response and if you've never done a rom, you may be better off pulling the aokp or cm code and working on killing some bugs first. i'm sure there is plenty to work on. or maybe just do a kernel for one of those (i don't think there is a single oc kernel for either yet).

I would try out anything if it looked good. TDJ, Cyn, and huge developers wouldn't have made it anywhere if they were to take your advice. Go play in traffic.
I've been here since the T-Mobile MDA days.
Okay I'm not a noob per say, I know my way around. I'm 19 and in college getting a bachelor's in computer engineering. Like most of us other I'm the person people come for help with anything related to technology.
But recently I've been feeling like a huge n00b haha. I found a really good dev and he's only THIRTEEN. I feel like I've waisted my time lol.
I'm also starting to think of porting my own roms and what not to my phone.
Along with this great community I hope I am a to become a great developer.
So I know exactly how you feel. I've been a member since 2010 and altho gh I've come a long way there is always room for improvement.

So,first of all I'm running on cna 3.8.0 with faux mainline-smartreflex kernel, what do you think about this?is this a good choice? On my needs list for this phone, there are the smoothness, gaming performance and the battery life? Are there any suggestions for any rom/kernel that would be better according to my needs?
Cheers!

I agree. That's kind of the gift and the curse with flashing. On the other hand by doing so you get to experience and learn of other things you might want out of a ROM instead of what you have listed. People can recommend all day long, but your likes might be different.
With all that said, I'm running P.A. 2.99.6 and it's an awesome ROM. You should give it a go.

My suggestion is to read before asking. There are many threads here dedicated to new users. Before you do anything, you need to be fully aware and accepting that you could have a very expensive paperweight if you do something wrong. Also, don't ask what the best ROM is. It will cause issues in the forums with people trying to prove they have a bigger d*ck because they use - whatever- ROM. Go with what fits you. But do all that after a good amount of reading.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
I completely agree with graydiggy. The best thing to do is to identify what you're looking for, and read a lot. I did a bunch of reading on this forum when I was first starting with my Samsung Vibrant, and I've learned a TON since then
Sent from my Nexus 7 running AOKP 4.2
I'll agree with others saying that you will find out more as you go. You'll also figure out more specific things to search for. Most of the roms I've seen have a thorough first post that leads you to information on getting caught up. This will generally lead to some of the pinned topics when first starting out. However, I also find myself having some of the same questions for each kernel release, like "How does this differ from the previous kernel? Which changes actually apply to my device?". Are there general release notes provided for each android kernel release? So far, I just go with what's current, recommended for the rom, and works well for others, and that's fine. But I still wonder what changes the revisions have been through, even if it's stuff I wouldn't notice day to day.
Thanks for all ur advices and leads i appreciate that , i guess i have no choice but read more
