Properly uninstall apps? - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

I'm wondering if it matters at all if one uninstalls an app by deleting the apk using rootexplorer (or equivalent), vs the "traditional" method in settings>applications, or even using titanium to uninstall?
Do they all achieve the same thing? Are there any drawbacks to any of these methods?
I have used each one without any problems I have been aware of, I'm just curious if someone has insight into the differences between these methods if there is any.

Good question. I would also like to know how to get rid of the apps that are crossed out in TiBu which I already uninstalled.

Forgot about that one! Which reminds me...
Anyone know how to remove apps from your list online in the play store?

To answer the first question, yes, essentially they all just remove the app from the data folder

Using titanium or the settings method will also clean up temp files and such. To answer the question about the play store, no, they are there forever.

I'm a little worried that kids gonna beat my ass. Don't you get a little sentimental looking back at that first app...
...remember that feeling of power?

Edit...
Never mind I just checked and my first app was fat booth

Another option (not necessarily a good one) would be to abandon your google account and start a new one.

Apparently a few things were added like the wishlist.

Pretty cool, however, why the heck can't they allow you to filter My Apps so you just see your purchased ones. And I'm tired of scrolling through hundreds of apps I tried over a year ago! Is it really that hard to allow users to remove apps from their list???

Yes so annoying
How come mine didn't update yet isn't it supposed the same be automatic

Seems much faster but it could be the placebo effect. Aside from that it looks the same. Curious to see if I ever use the gift card feature. maybe I'll ask for one as an X-mas present.
Just read that the update also adds smart update feature. Now you only download the changed parts of the app, not the whole thing.

Certain addresses refuse to load?

I've had it happen with a few select websites, but it became a lot more apparent when I had an app fail as well.
I've cleared/wiped everything that I could think of, turned off preloading, etc

A lot of the ROM's advertise "no ads" in their descriptions.
I looked at the hosts file on my phone that came with FreeGS, and indeed, games.espn.go.com is blocked.
Take a look at yours... Its in the system/etc folder. If its blocked in yours, use a simple text editor to remove that line from the hosts file and then reboot.
You will need to be rooted in order to make changes to the hosts file, I believe, but if you re on a ROM, you are already rooted.

No Local/combined search?

Please forgive me for asking what is probably a noob question:
For the last few weeks, perhaps since I upgraded to FI27, the google search doesn't pull up the contacts and local apps anymore. I can't figure out how to get it back. I've seen something about this feature bring removed from the galaxy III ... Did they do this to us as well? If not, can anyone point me to the correct setting for this? If yes ... Any workaround for this (I'm rooted, in case it matters).
Thanks for your help ... And again, my apologies if this is something I'm spoofed you figure out.

You can thank apple for that. This happened on the galaxy nexus too I believe.

Yea F&CK Apple.
But if you want to get Google to search your phone you'll have to use an older 'GoogleQuickSearchBox.apk'
Hint you might want to read this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1762570
I haven't used this in a while I'm quite happy with Google Now so far.
Good luck.

Allshare background data usage

Anyone else seeing high background wifi data use by allshare service? I have had my att note 2 for less than a week and it shows 666 mb of data. I have noticed a couple times where this service is killing my battery untill i force close it. I tried to disable in app settings but it wouldnt let me. I have never actually used this service for anything.

If you are willing to root your device you will be able to dosable this app or uninstall it. The reason you cannot disable it is they have balled their bloatware into the system apps. Those are the ones you cannot disable it in settings and apps.
You can use tibu or any other means to uninstall it
Ya figured I could if I rooted, but not doing that until I'm for sure keeping the phone. Only one week into owning and haven't decided 100% yet.

in that case you may want to just try a good ol fashioned battery pull and disable background data and processes in the settings menu.
Thanks for the advice but actually already done both. The data has only gone up by about 10mb since yesterday though. It's not a big deal just trying to figure out why that much data is being transfered for a service I have never used.

have you tried disabling allowing the phone to use your location for informatioon gathering, stuff like that will also affect background processes.

From phone to media player

Alright, long time epic 4g touch user, and a while back i reported one lost and got another. I found it yesterday and have decided to basically turn it into a media player. So I need to know if it is safe to uninstall some of the stock applications baked blackbean. I want to remove telephone, messaging, stock browser, 4g settings, and possibly a other things. Does anyone have insight as to whether or not this will cause instability?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
All of the apps mentioned will cause massive force closes if deleted, basically rendering it unusable.

I will be releasing an update to the rom here soon with a script to disable the radio so you can just remove whatever regular apps that you don't want. But I agree, if you start removing the core system apps, it's going to cause a lot of problems. It has incredible battery life. Monitor the thread and we'll see how it goes.

He was asking about Baked Black Bean (AOSP)
Well, that answers my question. I'll disable their auto runs, and hide them in nova launcher. And I'll look at that rom, because if it's as good as you say it might be my new daily driver.
