ROMs are shared with other people, not sold to them which means they don't earn anything from it.

The ROM developers here (the vast majority anyway) have no desire make money from their work. They do it because they can and they do it for themselves. We are just lucky enough that they are willing to share their work with us.
Any ROM developer whose main aim is to make money is doing it wrong. (imo)

Actually, that's a very common misconception. Quite a few mods/devs/recognised contributors/high-ranking senior members have gone on rants about this sort of thing
We are NOT in any way necessary. XDA is not a 'make my phone cool' service. The devs normally make ROMs for their own usage, and only share them with us for no profit because that's just the way they are. If you ask the majority of devs to create a ROM which they simply don't like, they will not do it. Try asking someone like Tytung (if you've ever had an HD2, you know who he is), who only does AOSP/CM based ROMs to create a Sense-based ROM, or someone like MCCM (again from the HD2 forums), who only does Sense/MIUI ROMs to make a Cyanogenmod ROM. They would refuse, because they're not doing this for us but for themselves. We're just very lucky that they choose to share their work with us.
That was essentially a very summarised and watered-down version of this post
From an enduser, i think we pay the devs with thanks to there work. Is money more worth than the feeling that people who dont know you, love your work?
True, and as Nigeldg told, we should really be lucky enough for their sharing mentality.

This has been answered before. What's stopping people from hacking this phone is that this phone is relatively new. It had just came out on the market for almost a month and the developers may have not been able to purchase the phone yet.

Just to add to this, the bootloader is almost everything and Sony fixed Gingerbread so that it cannot be exploited using the old fashion means, which means either we develop new means or wait for ICS that we have a new way to exploit.
It may also be that many devs are working on the new more powerful phones, any Sony is really a small underground community. I promise when I get an ion I'll start developing.

I hate being the troll here but why, why ask this same question that others have and further bloat this forum, when no one knows when a Rom is coming.

No. You can't sell open source software. You can, I suppose, charge people for your time working on it, or ask for donations. Or charge people to use your bandwidth, or the media storage to transfer the files. Maybe even some rigged shipping and handling.
But you can't put a price on the software itself. You don't own it no matter how much you tweak it.

No you cannot sell Open Source but it appears you can ask for money in turn for an early release of a ROM you make before you give it to the public here on XDA Which is a bunch of Hokum

Now with that being said and all the responses I see here what happen to the OP. He asked a question gets everyone all bent out of shape and never shows up again.
Either someone wants to sell him a rom or he wants to sell one - cant see any other reason for asking that particular question... jus my thoughts

Yea seriously.
As far as selling roms goes, you can. BUT it's seriously frowned upon. Though it helps if you built the ROM from the ground up. When I had my Epic 4g, team Bonsai left the xda forums and stopped uploading their work for whoever wanted it. They instead made their own website/forum and sold it there. A lot of people didn't like this move but it made sense to me. Building a ROM from the ground up along with your own kernel is not easy at all. That takes a lot of work. They chose to lose all the xda baggage (noobs, douchebag mods, ect) and charge for their work. But this also meant that their supporters would always have timely updates and the best support. And they had a lot of supporters. The bonsai ROMs were badass.

no, they said the ubuntu phone version that could also be used as a full desktop when mounted on the docking station which is connected to a tv/monitor. for only the phone os part you dont need dual core.
I remember all these bountys where people say theyll do this or that once they get the device. One was where we could do a double boot meaning we turn off the phone and can choose which rom we want to run just like the hd2. The other was wifi calling for aosp roms. Now i dont want to sound like an ignorant butthole but shouldnt those devs atleast deliver what they said they would or atleast an update? If they did deliver please send me the link to them. I really was waiting for the double root for a long time.

Sorry if rude.
developers are like gods
I don't think that any developer will give the Dual SIM functionality just for 1000 bucks in CM11/Carbon.
If they have time, they will work on it and will give it FOR FREE. You can always donate the developer for his efforts and it obviously encourages them.

God... people like pawitp, k2wl, xenon92 do not do their devving for money. They do it out of hobby, but they might not want to refuse if you want to give your donation. So the relationship between user and devloper is not similar to a consumer and a producer (where consumer pay money to get the producer's goods or services). There is no slave and master like how normal economy does, in here everybody contributes, everybody is equal.
Instead of paying the devs it's actually better to learn how to devvs and help them. Skill > money

Relax People:
I've probably been around in xda longer than most of people in this forum. This is not innapropriate and has been done many times in the past. People would post "BOUNTIES" in order to get several things to work on a device. In instances it would pool to a decent sum. If the forum rules have changed or not, i dunno, but there is no reason to get upset about this subject. Heck, you get Dual SIM to work. I'll chip in too. I've donated in the past, wheather it be cash, soda, or beer.
