whaaaaa? windows 8 on the a100 or being able to use mtp/mass storage with windows 8? if its the first i want to say HA good luck with that be easier to compile ubuntu 12 arm compared to any windows os. If its the second well i have no clue.
Personally if i was gonna put windows 8 on a acer tablet i'd done it with the w500 which runs windows7 natively an has a keyboard dock (that will never mount right to a a100/a500 because its a normal usb port on the bottom of the w500 >.>)

If you are speaking the Acer A100 tablet ONLY I would say yep you are correct. However you are saying "No one will be installing W8 on their Android tablets" which is false. Yes you will be able to have an ARM device with Windows 8 and Android in a dual boot. Windows 8 is being writen for both x86 and ARM and manufacturers like Asus have already talked about releasing a dual boot.

Microsoft just aren't going to allow that... They have VERY strict requirements for the ARM version of Windows 8, one of which is a tightly locked and sealed bootloader and NO dual booting capability.
Plus, no existing tablets on the market meet the spec requirements for resolution or available RAM.

Thanks, and my previous point still stands true. You are too vague most of the time in your responses and it leads to miss informed people. It also causes you to give responses that may have some validity, but are wrong because you don't properly address what you wish to point out.
I agree with you there is actually news about ARM based tablets having to have a secured boot loader by the manufacture no if ans or butts if its a intel/amd based machine the secure boot is optional.

I wont say it'll never happen, I'll say its extremely unlikely, for a few reasons i can see.
Devs needed to work on getting w8 working on a tegra2 anything, let alone an a100
W8 itself being modified to run on the a100 specifically, there is next to no dev support for this device for android let alone another os.
Did I mention devs needed to do this stuff?
IMO i wouldn't wait on this, its extremely unrealistic to expect. But I could be wrong, it happens quite often.

The Surface is held back even by Tegra 3, so I don't think its possible. And this tablet just doesn't have enough dev support.

Something got me thinking today "What if I could dual boot my Evo with Windows Phone 7 and Android?". I think that would make it the ultimate phone. The HD2 can run windows and android so why not the Evo also.

Running haret.exe within windows to boot linux to launch android can be done...
As far as i know there is no way to do the similar on andoid to launch windows mobile.
that is why most windows mobile phones can get a port to android and not android to windows mobile.

Considering that some WP7 devices will most likely use Snapdragon it really shouldn't be terribly difficult to do - but yes, it would be illegal.

no, it would still be illegal because you did not obtain the microsoft portion of the software legally. To be protected under the DMCA changes made yesterday you would have to legally own the software, then it would be ok

Its not that it cant be done, its because windows is licensed and not open like android/Linux....
So for windows to come onto other devices you would A. need to hack it witch XDA dont support or B. each and every person who installs said rom would have to buy the license key.
Yeah, and Windows for ARM isn't going to be sold retail, only pre-installed with the device.. And drivers and such I guess won't work like regualar windows, just so they can avoid things like this.. But once it's released we will know more. It can probably be done on a completely open device, because a bootloader change is probably needed in the first place, but that can probably be taken from a tegra 3 windows tablet which I bet is coming. Well, I guess time will tell.

I think they're getting their phones mixed up. The note 2 will not run windows phone 8. The ATIV S is their windows phone 8 phone... They were both announced the same day, so that's probably where the confusion is coming from.

Explain to me how it's ludicrous? HTC HD2 could dual boot winphone and android. I have dual booted android and windows mobile on an ATT tilt and an HTC raphael as well.

It's ludicrous because all the other OS' you mention there are MOBILE OS'; the OP's talking about Windows 8 which is a desktop OS. Did you ever get your HD2 to boot Windows XP? Or OSX? Presumably not!
And that aside, if someone's read something they want to ask about then why not link to the article in question somewhere in the thread? To turn up and ramble on about some nonsense they've 'read somewhere' is useless and until it's at all substantiated then I'm going to treat it as such.

Highly doubt it, it's faster and better than 7. Ignore Metro, and you have 7 but just better. But Win8 is impossible, Windows RT may be possible but highly unlikely.

I used to want a small Windows-XP/Vista/7 based phone that could idealy do everything my desktop/laptop could do. However, as I looked into it further, I realized it just wasn't an optimum OS to have on a phone type platform (even if it was possible).
Even on my Sony Vaio UX which had a similar sized screen as the Note 2, programs were just too difficult to navigate and use due to their design being model for a larger landscape. Also, the Windows Desktop OS's are resource-hungry, and do not utlize hardware efficiently enough to run smoothly on a phone.
Still it would be fun to do, just to say it can be done.

all those devices you mentioned came with windows mobile.
because windows(all versions) is closed source it's incredibly hard to get it on a device that didn't originally have a version of windows.
android has the advantage of being open source so it's much easier to port drivers from other devices to it, and to even write completely new drivers.
but even then it's not an easy task.
Wish it was possible but sadly Microsoft does not allow to. If there was a option of Dual OS Bootup then it would have been awesome.

No. And no one will be, since it has to be implemented by the manufacturer. Ubuntu stated, that they may release source to fiddle with, but they havent until now.

Main Problem is, that it would need implementation in the kernel since it runs besides Android all the time and uses the same kernel. I also would like to See a port of this, but since no units with this feature were sold till now , there is no easy way to get hold of the code (sadly)...

on the ubuntu homepage i the phone section there is a page where is a part where you can see what are the things which have to have the phone ...the "min" and "max" and our phone will run it good because of enough memory and good cpu ...just wait...at first they will make it avaiable on the nexus 4 and after a while for other
They will post development images for the galaxy nexus (not N4) which can be ported to other phones The whole thing already runs on an android kernel which should speed up the porting a little. I'm going to follow this closely though, especcially the thin client function looks neat. We have some BYOD rules and what we basically do is just RDP in from out own docked laptop instead of an availible thin client. With this I could just dock my phone and start working.

It's a really nice idea but you'll lose the functionality of a phone and it was pretty damn hard to use on a 7 inch screen running in gnome.
Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Ubuntu for nexus 7 require repartitioning? If that's the case then there's no way it would work for most of us.

This is made to run on a linux/android kernel..... Which should translate into an easy move..... Plus its made for mobile...
It is a mobile OS so why would we lose mobile features.
Plus as this is for mobile... It won't be hard to navigate as everything is scaled and repositioned.

FFU file (signed or not) can be flashed on any phone to eMMC using the Qualcomm Firehose protocol.

Yep, when people don't quickly find how it's done, they say it's fake; especially when they are aware of some (current) barriers that would prevent it from happening. Most of the time, they forget that other people can know/have things they don't have/know. They also forget that we move on by finding a way to jump over barriers.
But, also, unfortunately, people prefer to think it's fake to protect themselves from the frustration they will build because they would like to know how to do it and, unfortunately, most of the time, never will. On a forum, so many people come and say "yes, it possible: look", you are then excited to find out or try but, finally, the guy vanishes without giving any information on how to do it...

yes its easy game for Nexus 6p if you found any windows 10 device that had same camera place that 6p had.
this video is pure fake by placing 950 single sim display panel cover with nexus 5x body covers,unfortunately it had same camera & flash light points of lumia 950.

It is easy to say it is fake, if you are willing to limit what you want to believe or what you can do. Even if it is the point is to think outside of the box, and thanks for showing your side of the story.
I can't speak for everyone, but as far as I know nobody has proved a W10M port is not possible.
