If you unroot you lose s off. Once rooted you are NOT suppose to accept OTAs or you will be back for more help.
Sent from my Desire HD using xda premium
There's no point in S-off if you're going to stay on stock.
If your phone is rooted only, then i think you can receive OTA
Thank you for your answers, well I was thinking about doing the OTA when it arrives as there aren't any good ICS roms for the moment.

And I'm on stock Rom now, was on android revolution HD.
sent from my HTC Desire HD using xda premium
Once the OTA ICS rom is released for the DHD the devs will have the source codes and drivers to make their custom roms flawless the very next day or even the same date as the release. So its pointless, either way you have to wait for the ICS release whether for custom rom ICS or stock ICS rom.
Ye you right, the custom roms are often better.
sent from my HTC Desire HD using xda premium
Just one thing, if you unroot, you don't lose S-OFF, you just lose root access. You have to revert the S-OFF by flashing a bootloader with a S-ON partition. If you are thinking to root again once the OTA is rolled, the just hold until custom roms are ready....I guess we are going to have much too fin...

It is true that none of the ICS rom is stable enough for everyday use (specially the sense 4 ones) but once the official RUU is leaked. Then we would have custom ICS sense roms and not only that but sense 4 instead of official sense 3.6.
Are Desire HD only getting sence 3.6? lol then it will be worth to wait and flash a custom Rom with sence 4.0 instead.

Or just buy from the HTC one Series DHD development is almost dead.
Yeah, but was thinking about staying with my Desire HD for at least one more year before buying a new one as I bought it February last year so It's only a little more than a year old.

I'd expect Sense 4A to be fully working once kernel source for ICS is released, and from there we can probably get a few more features added.
Won't the developers be able to port the full sence 4.0?
sent from my HTC Desire HD using xda premium
You can accept OTA with S-OFF as long you are on stock Rom with stock recovery and stock cid (not supercid).

Utter bull, ICS builds are stable, only some features not working e.g. Camera or WiFi Hotspot. Used IceCold as a daily for three weeks and loved it! Never tried a Sense ICS port though (I rooted to get rid of the P.O.S, not flash it again)

I don't quite understand. So you're saying you have a G2 and its running a software version of 1.74? You're not rooted or anything? or...
No rooted it has s on I'm not able to put any Rom from xda I have a modaco sense Rom
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
No rooted not able to put roms except a modaco sense
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Wait, so how did you get a custom ROM on your phone without rooting... I'm still losing the level here. I'm not exactly familiar with Modaco Sense.
Regardless, the Sense based ROMs for the G2/DZ are all Desire Z ROMs, because the G2 has stock Android, not Sense. This meaning that the Sense-based ROMs are going to have 1.72 etc. because its going to follow the DZ numbering for software releases. Changing your ROM changes your software version, so that is why yours shows 1.72, not 1.22.
It's there any way I can go back I try to revert but it says wrong Omaha or image to old and I think is because since its a desire z Rom I can only revert to stock z instead of stock g2.... does a make any sense.?

when the official Gingerbread update for htc desire?
When it's ready.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA Premium App
For HTC Desire Z is before end of June:
http://htcsource.com/2011/05/htc-customer-service-confirms-htc-desire-z-gingerbread-update-for-q2/
The Desire Z is similar to the normal Desire, so i think this statement can also used for it.

That's a nice one.
In the spirit of DNF Vaporware, it should just be "when it's done."
There's been millions of rumours and dates suggested. Who knows...

It's probably going to be somewhere before the end of june...
This dutch article states that a reliable insider said that they have taken out some of the downloadable apps, like facebook and twitter to make the new OTA update fit on the system partition and that they'll begin rolling out in a week or so.
End of June... so probably end of August
Next week... Friday 12.33.
I have problems returning to stock rom so with this new update can I update it to unrooted 2.3 or ?

You won't be able to update a custom rom with the official over the air update but you should be able to unroot using an official RUU. No official 2.3 RUU is out yet and its unconfirmed as to when 2.3 will be released for the Desire.
i heard you can update in july or august
You have a lot of Gingerbread lying around. You shouldn't worry about a lame update (HTC reported that they have to trim it in order to fit the memory). It will never be able to support a decent Sense and the changes will not be as spectacular as those made in some of the custom ROMs. Plus you will have memory shortages and all the headaches associated with non-data2sd ROMs.
I'm hearing of some unbranded UK Desires receiving an OTA update to Gingerbread, has anyone else seen this? Nothing on mine yet, and since it's unbranded I imagine it's not a staggered rollout.
Anyone know what's going on, or are my sources false?
I've not heard anything to maybe a fail. I guess if you find HTC's RUU then it will be rolling out soon. About now is when it's rolling out so maybe so.
Well after some checking I can confirm that a desire, possibly on TMob got a system update a couple days ago, but can't confirm whether it was 2.3 or just a pre update of some sort, also not sure if the desire is branded or not.
unfortunately the phone is a work phone that my friend doesn't have currently so can't get any more details at this moment.
Nothing here. Unbranded handset :-(

HTC Official Update
I received the following email today from HTC Customer Care in response to a question as to when they will fix the widely reported Google leak (potential security flaw in Android).
In regards to your last response, in order to to get the security update when it is being issued, you have to have a base of the 2.3 Gingerbread update on your handset, in which case will be released this summer for devices such as HTC Desire.
Currently we do not have a specific date as to when the 2.3 will be released for other handsets as at this time the update is only being issued to HTC Desire HD and HTC Incredible S.
summer? geeez... I thought it was going to be anytime soon this month... Bit fed up of waiting...

Check my sig. I can't say I noticed something actually does not work, which I can say for some other roms people swore are rock stable, but it drains battery and there is obvious lag especially with alternative launchers and animations. That said, I can cope with some lag, but I can't cope with memory leaks, bootloops, ads etc.
So you can't just yet say it is as it is meant to be, but it comes to that this actually works. Not extra smooth, but it does.

Its not a dev rom, its perfectly stable. And its only for Desire, DHD should have more choice seeing that the rom is made from a leaked DHD RUU.

I do remember Torrxx saying in the VenomHD thread that porting jellybean AND sense 4.1/4+ was impossible (or near enough too) because our hardware is just too old. The sensation has a chance because of it's dual core CPU etc. We don't have that luxury I'm afraid
