Hi guys!
Is there anyone who got USB OTG (Host) working with the latest ICS kernel (3.0) on Kindle Fire? I am mostly interested in connecting a flash drive.
If yes, can you please tell me how you did it? What ROM do you use? Does it require a powered USB hub?
Thank you!
Hey dude! Yes, I got an OTG adapter working on my kindle fire. Powered USB hubs aren't required unless you are going to use multiple devices or a USB 2.0 device. The main use for mine is to use a keyboard (which is freaking awesome). To use flash drive you must have an app called stickmount which is free on the play store. I have attempted to use two flash drives on mine: a 2gb atache and a 2gb lexar. The 2gb atache wasn't even detected but the lexar was detected but I couldn't figure out how to use it. I got all this to work on AOKP KF Edition Milestone 5 with Hashcode's 3.0 Kernel #8. Hope this helped.

Flash drives will work fine. My 16gig worked first try with Hashcodes ICS build3/kernel 8. Most drives will require a hub, the kindle fire does not put out enough power without one. Several threads extend the possibility that future kernel changes might affect the power output, and several point out some iphone/pod type adapters that also might work (update 5/7-the adapters did not work). Without any of those, only the smaller drives have any chance of working. Stickmount, or equivalent software, along with a USB micro-otg cable, are also required.
I followed this guy's post...

Bought an USB OTG cable few weeks ago and it just arrived today.
When connected to the GS3 I have (T999V), it says "security policy use of external SD card".
When I go into MYfile app and search for USB OTG, nothing appeared (a flash drive is attached with text documents and other various files)
The question, isn't the Galaxy S3 suppose to recognize this USB OTG? and there's no need to install any app to help it recognize it.
Running Team Sonic R3 Custom ROM right now.
Can anyone help me on this problem?
Because the USB OTG is one the the features that intrigued me buying the GS3!
My usb otg cable is on the way from China, so don't have hands on experience. But in ES file manager, if you navigate to /mnt/ folder you can see provision to support upto 6 usb drives as you can see in the screenshot. So try navigating to /mnt and see if you can access your usb drives from there.

Well, it is not completely unusable for me.
After I install the "USB Mass storage watcher" from the play store and mount the OTG it became usuable.
But sometimes it crashes. Also, isn't the device itself already compatible with the OTG itself? Why should I need to install the app in order from me to use the OTG? (these are the two main question here).
Also, the app isn't fully stable, it crashes sometimes and it is very hard to use. (everytime you unplug your USB device you have to mount it again)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
p.s: I have tried to look in the ES file Manager and I did see 6 USB dirve and 1 usbOTG option. But before I use the app to mount the OTG device on my phone none of the options works. When I mount the device through the program, I can browse the files on my USB drive in the "usbOTG" option.

Mine works fine I bought a $3 otg cable from Amazon i have the t-mobile S3 stock rooted

Hi all,
I just received my OTG cable and I'm trying to get my USB stick working with it. I've tested both USB sticks and a USB mouse. The Mouse works fine and the USB stick is recognized and mounted but I cannot see any files on it.
What formats is the default (rooted) i989 (Telus S2X) setup to read?

I have a Kindle Fire with Hashcodes Android 4.2.2 ROM installed. I have an otg cable and a 2GB HP flash-drive. I was wondering what I could do to make that external storage, without buying a Powered Hub. Thanks

Hi,
I am not able to connect note 8.0 to an external HDD (ED) through micro-usb OTG. I think I may need a Micro USB Host OTG Cable with USB power. I just want to know whether anyone has tried it for note 8.0 and does it reads NTFS ? I think my HDD is in NTFS format and I don't want to change it to FAT 32. (Actually I don't know how to do it) Any ideas ? Any help is really appreciated

Pushkar

Paragon exFAT, NTFS & HFS+ will allow you to access your NTFS drive without having to format it to FAT32 so you do n ot lose your data. It's Free.

The application says root is required...I am not able to figure out whether the external HDD (1 TB WD) is not working because the note 8.0 is not supplying it enough power or because it is not able to read the file system (NTFS).
Should i simply root my device & install the application or buy a OTG cable with external power port and then see whether it's a power issue ?. The problem is usb otg with external power is not available in this country (India) and amazon doesn't ships this particular product to India
Thanx a ton for all the help..really appreciate

I found That the Note 8.0 is not able to power external Hard Drives if they receive Thier power via Usb. A Powered Drive is fine. I use a Powered Usb hub to read my WD My Passport 1TB,which is also NTFS. My device is rooted and I have the paragon app installed.

IMO all may depend on power necessary to run the drive - my HDD was running ok with no external power.
So first I'd suggest rooting + ntfs app, and only if it does not work looking for powered Usb otg cable.
In the worst case you can do it yourself - in all Usb cables two external wires are for 5V power supply (same as provided by standard chargers), so it's just a matter of finding which is +/- and bit of soldiering

I have tried that option 1 errors out with
Error: java.lang.IllegalStateException: java.util.concurrent.TimeoutException: Thread Binder:614_15 gave up waiting for partitionMixed after 180000ms
Option 2 worked but when doing pm move- command it never works
I managed to get further but keep getting error -6 when trying to move to usb device
Edit. I got it working as far as storage and moving apps over on a 32gb usb drive from 2010. It does not auto put to usb drive though

Not sure but all my firesticks have a bug it seems amazon refuses to fix that when fresh formatted and leaving it on the storage goes to very low space quickly. So far with the same apps installed I got bit more on 1 stick that been unplugged longer. Both are 4k firesticks. Not sure what version. I think gen 1 since i dont think gen 2 4k firestick ever came out.
One of my usb drives might just not work for firestick as playing downloaded videos from it lag.
I have 2 firesticks with USB adapters. Recently both firesticks refused to recognize any USB flash drive (I'm using VLC media player). The same flash drive I have been using for a long time. I tried reformatting the drive (FAT32) but no luck. I suspect that a software update has caused the problem. Is there a known way to roll back the software and prevent updates?

I am having the same issue. USB storage was working fine but after update system is not recognising the storage. I can see the usb stick and copy files using adb so it is not a hardware issue.
Hi everyone. I have 2 firesticks (lite and 3rd gen). I tried to expand storage on both with remote ADB shell. I used the same method and succeeded on one of them (lite). Remote ADB shell in the 3rd gen stick refused to recognize usb flash drive. Does anybody know why, please?
I have the same problem firestick 4k 3rd gen fully updated, tried two otg cables, many different drives and will not recognise it through xplorer, adb console or system settings. Any help would be much appreciated
Thanks for the reply but I have tried all of the above suggestions and nothing works.
I have read every thread online and carried out every instruction and now I am at a dead end, very frustrating.
The stick is on fireOs 6.2.9.4
Thank you for taking the time to reply carolljeny223 much appreciated, I've contacted customer support and waiting reply.
I think you have to cut the power to the firestick , say for about 30 seconds.
I found this out with my firestick running on sofware 7.
When I put the USB memory stick in the port the firestick recognised it. A message prompt came up with an option to format the usb stick either for (a) Apps, or (b) Storage e.g., movies, documents, etc.
Only when the firestick recognises the memory stick will it then show USB storage in the My Firestick settings.
Ensure your USB memory is formated to fat32 on your computer if your memery stick is 32gb or below. Anything about format it to exfat32.
