Hi, I have been using Runnymede for around 2/3 weeks and I've been noticing that my battery goes down quite fast..
As a heavy 'texter' I'm glued to my phone when I'm not in School etc. the battery isn't very good. Losing percentage fast.
Simple things like watching a video makes the battery, for example when on 94 go to 89 in around 5 minutes..
Is there any way to fix this or is Runny ROM better for battery life?
Cheers,
Jon.
Yeah runnymede battery life aint the best, its the same with most sense roms. Make sure your battery is properly calibrated and i think i seen it in some post that Droidzone has a created a kernel to help battery life with the sense 3.5 roms. Maybe google droidzone and have a read at his site. Also sebs op for runnymede has links to kernels.

Just had a search into how to calibrate the battery.
I'm assuming it's the first one that tells you to:
'Hi *******, I understand your concern regarding battery life on your Nexus One device. The following steps should significantly extend the battery life on your phone. Please connect the phone to the charger with the phone powered on, and allow the phone to charge until the notification LED is green, indicating the device is fully charged. Disconnect the phone from the charger, and power it off. Reconnect the phone to the charger with the phone powered off, and allow the phone to charge until the notification LED is green. Disconnect the phone from the charger and power it on. Once the phone is powered completely on, power it off again and reconnect it to the charger until the notification LED is green. Disconnect the phone, power it on, and use it. You need to use this sequence only once. If the issue of battery life on our phone persists, I recommend you contact our HTC accessory department directly.'
I'll try this when the phone gets fully charged.. I'll post the progress when it is
Yeah erm i usually power off the phone, fully charge then reboot, use it till it drops down bout 3%, power off and fully charge again THEN once charged fully boot into recovery and wipe battery stats then reboot and it should be calibrated.

I can't believe there are still people who consider that a calibration.
That bump charging won't do anything, and batterystats.bin gets wiped either way when indicator goes over 90 threshold. That procedure is to be performed only if you are can't stand the look of apps in your battery usage monitor under settings.

The only real calibration for Desire is that one described in theGanymedes wonderful guide. Note that calibration is never to be used to increase battery performance. That scenario is not going to happen.

I have an app and its a battery indicator and before with the kernel that comes with runnymede aio v6.1.1 s.e beta i got at 100% battery - light use 29 hours and constant use 2:41 mins and now with updated kernel i got light use 38 hours and constant use 4 hours so thank you for your help

Since I read on article this Lifehacker about prolonging lithium-ion batteries' lifes, I do not care about calibration:

This may sound weird or I missed something, but lately the charge on the phone drops DOWN after reaching 100 while still on charger.
Like this morning I woke up after having the phone on charge all night. The battery symbol showed it was fully charged and wasn't being charged no more, notification light was on to indicate the charger was connected, but battery status widgets all indicated 96 percent battery.
No CPU intensive program running in the bg. If I remove the charger and reconnect it,charging starts again normally. Tried it on two batteries. It's a o2 desire. Using original charger.

The Desire will charge the battery if the battery level drops below 90%. This can extend the lifetime of the battery.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
is this a fact? that it will charge it back? Cuz I never was brave enough to let wifi running cuz in the morning i still need the phone and sometimes i have several giga avi files to transfare.
That's new for me,will give it a try and report back

I see the same behaviour. Using JuicePlotter, I can see that overnight the battery will drop from 100% to 90% before charging back to 100%. It does this over a few hours.

I dont think this is true as I managed to deplete my desire in 24 hours and it was still connected to the charger.
Sorry, tried searching using my app but couldn't find one. Thanks for pointing out.

Hi I tried searching for this using the xda app but didn't find anything.
I think I have noticed that when charging the phone once the battery is full it doesn't maintain the charge if left plugged in, you have to unplug and plug the charger back in for it to start charging
Any one else found this?
Cheers
Tom

It's a feature on the Desire. It's to prevent the phone battery from overcharging.

That's a real bugger as I normally charge overnight so its good for a full days use, but that routine isn't going to be much good now.
Thanks for confirming though

basically what happens is, if you charge while the device is on, when it reaches 100% it will quickly discharge to 90% and then charge again till it reaches 100%, it will follow that cycle until you unplug it
Ah that makes a lot more sense
Thanks for letting me know

On full battery or still plugged on the charger.... I know if u change your rom on half or low battery it really screws up the battery...
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
I've never heard of such a thing. I've switched ROms many times while @ 30% or below. Regardless, I think it's best to be above 50% and on wireless.
Why would it screw up the battery? I've installed many roms on many occasions and my battery was not fully charged. I'm gettng excellent battery life on CM7 right now (yesterday/today's uptime is almost at 19 hours and still at 40% with moderate usage).
I have the stock battery, mind you.

It really doesn't matter at all, just don't do it with 5-10%, don't want the battery dying while you are in the middle of a flash.
When u recharge the phone when recalibrate does it have to be off or on

This is all you need to worry about man. This goes for updating radios and recoveries through bootloader aswell. If your batt dies in the middle of something it could turn into a brick
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Make sure that it's just charged enough that it wont die in the middle of a flash. You don't want that expensive of a paperweight. Other than that being said, i've flashed roms with under 40% battery before.

If you are talking about wiping battery stats, that really doesn't do much.
For the last week or so my phone just reboots, not sure what is causing it ? I did notice the battery is a little warm but not always it does this 3-4 times a day. I switched roms and kernals with no result. Is my phone junk?
Sent from my HTC Droid Incredible ADR6300 using XDA App
I'd go back to the earlier kernel/rom first (at least another kernel) before saying phone is totaled.
Also know your rom, most aren't vanilla and might be running stuff you don't usually want/need. Turning off, freezing, or uninstalling some of that might help. Grab something like watchdog lite and see if you can pick out what's using most cpu and if you can do without it.
You could have also overclocked too high or made some change the kernel that caused some instability. If you didn't mess with any of that, then I don't know what else to tell you.
If I've helped you, hit the thanks button!
Well thanks for the advice but I've already checked those areas and only ran the kernals that the builders had with the roms. On another note my battery temp hovers around 100 F at idle and goes up when in use, I've noticed reboot when using gps or playing words and sometimes youtube. Might need new battery anyone have any temps to compare?

Do battery calibration after each flash to new ROM, also make sure you are not too undervolted which makes the battery work harder. And do not bump charge battery is set to 100% at about 95% of battery to save battery life. 100% is the worst state a battery can be in.
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
You could always try flashing the stock RUU from your computer then run your backup. The stock RUU has been known to solve many issues.

I asked the same question, from research I found out most incredible's are having this issue, something to do with the usb or sdcard not working or something, there are a few threads here just not sure where the on with the link to the fix is

I have a battery widget and it fluctuates 3.8-4.05 V but the battery rates at 3.7V ?? Most of the reboots are when the battery is 30% or lower. Last night the battery got to 109 before rebooting while I was using it on the charger. Then vibrated 3 times while the screen was off??? Hopefully this phone makes it 1 more month til new phones hit Verizon.

First of all, is it rooted? If yes, what rom do you have? You have custom recovery?
If not try this. Charge the phone and when the green led is on power off the device and leave it to charge for another 1 hour.
No it is not rooted. The problem is that the green light never appears because it doesn't fully charge.

Will do. I have never let the battery drain completely. Do you think that can be a reason why it's not charging. Thanks

Same problem
I had the same problem with one week old VM One V. Charged to 80% and no more. Discharged (auto turned off at 10%) and it charged to 100 one time. Then charged only to 84%. Discharged again, went down to 6% before shutting down. After a couple more cycles, including unplugging after "full" charge to 84%, then replugging and getting to 100%, finally two days in a row woke up to a green light and 100% from a 20-30% level at bed time. Only issue now seems to be two widgets show different battery levels, e.g. 63% on battery monitor widget pro, 53% on Elixer pro battery widget. The icon at the top looks more like 60%.
Not rooted, waiting a while. Love the phone, wish it were dual core, but runs as well as my Droid X and much better battery life. Nice design and feel.
have you resolved your issue Relgozen??
Yes your advice was very helpful. Should I continue to charge my device only when the battery dies?
Thanks again
