USB OTG and HFS+ File system

Hey I currently havea Western Digital 500gig external hard drive formatted as HFS and I tried plugging it in to my USB cable and nothing appeared. Does anyone know of a way to get the GS3 to recognize HFS-formatted drives over USB OTG?

You would need a custom kernel that has built-in support for the filesystem. Same thing goes for NTFS.

[Q] WDD HDD to note 8.0

Hi,
I am not able to connect note 8.0 to an external HDD (ED) through micro-usb OTG. I think I may need a Micro USB Host OTG Cable with USB power. I just want to know whether anyone has tried it for note 8.0 and does it reads NTFS ? I think my HDD is in NTFS format and I don't want to change it to FAT 32. (Actually I don't know how to do it) Any ideas ? Any help is really appreciated

Pushkar

Paragon exFAT, NTFS & HFS+ will allow you to access your NTFS drive without having to format it to FAT32 so you do n ot lose your data. It's Free.

The application says root is required...I am not able to figure out whether the external HDD (1 TB WD) is not working because the note 8.0 is not supplying it enough power or because it is not able to read the file system (NTFS).
Should i simply root my device & install the application or buy a OTG cable with external power port and then see whether it's a power issue ?. The problem is usb otg with external power is not available in this country (India) and amazon doesn't ships this particular product to India
Thanx a ton for all the help..really appreciate

I found That the Note 8.0 is not able to power external Hard Drives if they receive Thier power via Usb. A Powered Drive is fine. I use a Powered Usb hub to read my WD My Passport 1TB,which is also NTFS. My device is rooted and I have the paragon app installed.

IMO all may depend on power necessary to run the drive - my HDD was running ok with no external power.
So first I'd suggest rooting + ntfs app, and only if it does not work looking for powered Usb otg cable.
In the worst case you can do it yourself - in all Usb cables two external wires are for 5V power supply (same as provided by standard chargers), so it's just a matter of finding which is +/- and bit of soldiering

I can use my WD USB HDD mounted via OTG and formatted NTFS using paragon app to mount (root required). This is tested with my SkyHigh kernel.
I don't know if device natively supports it with stock kernel, but should be able to mount at least fat formatted USB HDD without root and visible with Samsung file manager.
Not real sure about the battery, but would obviously use qite a bit. I haven't tested to quantify the "bit".

I have a pair of 2 TB Seagate Backup Plus drives that I use with my tablet. I formatted them as exFAT on a Windows computer and they automount on the tablet when connected. The tablet does not provide enough power to spin the drive. I use a USB Y cable to supply extra power from another power supply.

Could ANYONE please confirm that ?
If it's true it means that a fix is possible via system files.
THANK YOU A LOT

Does this tab support OTG on stock?

I plugged in an OTG cable and USB stick. The tab said USB storage was found but in fact it did not see the USB stick nor what was on it. So, no OTG support for the stock ROM?
OTG works!
Seemingly your stick uses unsupported format.
Thanks

How do I read a 2 TB external hard drive on my pixel 2 xl? (NTFS)

I have the OTG cable. I plugged it in and it said I needed to format the hard disk. I rather not do that. Is there a root method or an app that lets me read NTFS drives from the OTG cable?
Android doesn't have native support for NTFS. You can try this, but no guarantees it will work.
Be prepared to format the drive.
