Best ICS for my shiny T989 - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

Hello there, I just switched from Vibrant T959 and I am completely high on this phone. I must admit I do have 4S and for now I am on the bobble for what to use as primary but because I am on ATT and T989 is a T-Mobile unit I'll not be able to get good internet on it. My question is this. I got it rooted and installed BlackEdition ICS on it and right away I do not like unlock screen ( I like on with circle and waves coming from it) and Clock font (that fancy one) is not there as well. I used Passion ICS on old Vibrant and I just loved it. IS there anything like this available for T989 with "correct" unlock screen and "correct" font for clock ? I tried to install Port from Skyrocket and it didn't work for me, it got stock and boot loop on ATT animation and I had to use backup from original ROM I made with Rom Manager (thx god for that). So if possible please let me know.
P.S.
One question on unlocking my T989. This is crazy but I heard that if you unlock T-mobile SGS2 you will not be able to use it within US, yet it will work outside US. This is total crazy talk right ? I mean it's totally safe to unlock it and use on any GSM network in US or anywhere else in the world correct ?
Thank you guys !
P.P.S
According to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1632678 we'll have original T-Mobile ICS based roms is this correct ?
Thanks (for a last time)

Mostly people right now I would say darkside Evolution but slow your roll Guy ..there's going to be a massive update in the coming weeks because the new leaks

Yes. Very soon in fact.
Currently we have a fully working & great ICS roms:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1602216
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1623430
We also have a working CM9 with 2 minor bugs (video and computer USB mounting)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1621678
Note that because all of the ICS roms use the same leaked kernel, ALL have amazing battery life.
Also note that in the next few weeks we will be receiving official ICS from T-mobile, complete with working wifi calling. Then all the ROMS will be updated and buggless, including CM9. There is also AOKP under development.
So yes, exciting times are coming this month.

I was running Nexusmod 2 and it was running great, albeit a few minor hiccups here and there. Tried Dan_Brutal's new rom and oh my, it's running even better and less few minor hiccups (haven't actually ran into any hiccups yet). The jury is still out on the battery though, but other than that the rom works great.

I've been running SkyICS for about 2 weeks now and love it. I'm getting amazing battery life and no echo. I'm really looking forward to AOKP though. Think I'll stay on SkyICS till then.

EVOLUTION.. BAY BEEEE

Thank you very much for your answers. It looks like I got the phone right on time for great things to come, yes I know SGS3 got announced yesterday but I think SGS2 will do just fine till next iPhone comes out for me. I guess I'll hold tight till official based roms will come out.

im partial to nexusmod and cm9

Darkside Evolution is fantastic, I'm currently running the att base and it is flawless. On the way is an update with the T-mobile leaked kernel so things are only gonna get better.

Wait 1 week. Things are going to change fast with the new leaks and eugene (one of the most talented and most active devs on t989) is building his ICS rom soon if not right now...
Prior to this new leak all his builds were GB. I have a feeling team Kang might make an appearance soon as well to update juggernaut

And tonight he will probably widen the gap.
But soon we will see more from masters like Eugene, whitehawk, roman,, and probably more!

T989 tripping on the DARKSIDE

Amazing ! Thank you guys downloading it right now. One more thing if possible. I see some ROMs are saying I need to get Clockwork Touch , others like Darkside saying ClockworkMod Recovery 5.0.2.7 - NON Touch Recovery. IS that mean if I have touch on I need to re flash with non touch ? Cause I purchased it. I actually trying to support developers and usually pay for all premium features like Clockwork premium or touch. So do I need to re flash to non touch version for Darkside or Touch is just as good.
Thanks !
P.S. Trying to download modem kernel and LC8 modem from link Darkside have on other post and it's not going at all I mean that mirror is giving me 15b/sec .. no not 15kb ...and it'll takr 4 days. Any other mirror for this both files and do I need to flash modem or I can skip this part ?

Don't get too excited, while our phones may have a Exynos CPU we also are the only ones with a CDMA and Wimax radio. That the biggest reason we don't have CM7 yet while all the other SGSII's do, at least in beta form. It may take some time to get the driver situation sorted so I wouldn't expect the E4GT to get ICS in beta form as soon as the others.

Kudos to Bubby on that but just cause he gets it doesnt mean it'll be supported by CM. If they try to merge it and it breaks the existing builds, thats a no go. Slayher worked forever on the tbolt and it never played nice, the build itself is awesome but it couldn't be synced to mainline properly...not even sure its supported yet (although i sold that a couple months ago).
Not trying to be a downer, just realistic.

Samsung made a comment last month regarding ICS on the Galaxy SII.
Official update from Samsung and carriers will be 2nd Qtr next year = April - June. Unfortunately this sounds about right. I recall the original EVO 4G didn't get official Gingerbread update until June, six months after it was out.
Plus Samsung said they want the Galaxy S3 out a little earlier, Spring next year. I bet we see Samsung's next gen Galaxy series release first before the SII gets official ICS update.
Sprint Galaxy S2 w/ Calk's 1.5a + ICS 1.6
EDIT: Nevermind.

[Q] HTC'S Sense in the future?

So now that CM7 is official and nearing from my opinion a completion and MIUI is being worked on and becoming more stable I was just curious on what others had to say about a Sense Rom. I know it's been talked about before and ports have been released on here but they never seemed to kept being worked on. So is their any chance a Sense Rom(even sense 2.0 or 2.1)would be considered as a next project to try and run on this Phone or is it something that simply cannot be achieved?
Just curious don't flame me lol
I would love to see sense but others would rather see everything work on aosp roms first

Yeah me too I mean i thought MIUI was never going to be ported let alone ever stable but with its newest release today it fixed the big issues...along with CM7 i.e. Wimax. I came to sprint in May and this Epic 4g is my first phone with them(bought it cause it had a big enough screen and a keyboard) and prior to that on T-Mobile with the HD2,MYtouch 4g and 3g slide...I've always had HTC but took the risk of switching thinking that this phone would easily have a sense rom..huh I really hope someday it would be successfully ported on this awesome phone
There was some sense development going on awhile ago by Xboxfanj. I think he's still working on it, but his time might have been occupied by getting MIUI stable enough to be a RC.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA Premium App
well now that miui is RC and stable (enough)..hopefully him and other dev's will look into seeing if sense can be worked at. I know CM9 might be next after CM7 is finished but hopefully besides that this will be under consideration..It would be awesome if it worked
Ok I'm gonna start working on this again. Wish me luck.

Any idea who'd be fastest or what the turnaround time would be with adopting the Sammy ICS drivers? I know a stock rooted Rom usually drops fast but I haven't kept up with CM so I don't know where they're headed with the T989. I tried out one ICS ROM that worked well but the two snags (lag and vmail problems) I had were pretty major and had to go back to stock rooted.

That wouldn't be too bad I guess since I'd get wifi calling and still could remove bloat. CIQ would still be there though. Wouldn't that need Apex or another 3rd party launcher instead of the stock ICS version?
What I really want is a pure Nexus style vanilla ICS ROM. That may not be available until the source comes out. I was thinking devs could get at Samsung's ICS drivers and processes that make it more stable but that may take awhile.

stock. put some flowers in the background or something
Stock for now, but another aftermarket ROM that I gave to my wife for her HTC Incredible is MIUI. Look for a previous build though (GB), the new ones are utter sh*t IMHO. I've had a lot of fun with MIUI back in the days of FroYo.
Stock rooted jb its great.
If she's a "below average" user.
Then stock JB.
If she wants to have fun with phone and is actually able to remember things about the phone, CM9/10
If she wants to get all complicated, then AOKP.
--------------------------------------------------
If I have helped you.... hit that sexy thanks button. ^_^
Bleh stock... I suppose that's not a bad option on aosp the words stock on her old phones are terrible because of touchwiz and Moto blur
Cm9 is pretty stable though i assume. Any bugs?
CM9 Skyrocket
Stock anything, rooted for AdAway but that's probably about it. I've had too many experiences with non-power users doing that angry thing people do when they don't comprehend technology.
MIUI. Simple, clean, extremely customizable.
My gf doesn't even want to try a new rom, she really seem to enjoy it.
BUT, and this is major point, my gf actually isn't that much into technology, so i assume she just wants the cutest and most user friendly experience.

It's not that girls can't use ROMs, its that he's talking about rooting and ROMing her phone when she has no idea what's going on. I'm all about girls being into hacking phones, but only if they do it themselves!
I don't condone rooting and ROMing someone else's phone unless they know what's going on and could do it themselves.
I guess I'd just leave it stock and make her a custom Fashion Barbie Nerdgirl of the Undead theme or something, for brownie points.

I dont see why not. The E4GT is still a high end phone and should be able to handle JB. But Sprint will most likely take a long time to roll it out and by then, we'll have a stable cm10 build
im pretty sure after all the gnex do. hell even the nexus s has it already

I'm sorry but I'm tired of seeing you post the same thing over and over and over again. We all get it, you don't like ICS, or it doesn't work well for you, maybe it kicked your dog... something... be that as it may this is only your OPINION. You refer constantly to the ICS debacle. I'm not sure what this means, as ICS seems to work very well for the large majority of users around here. I'm sure at this point you be tempted to bring up what you think are bugs. Keep in mind these issues do not apply to the vast majority of users. Keep in mind that most of the people posting about how bad ICS is don't even understand why not doing a full wipe and keeping the GB app framework would cause the majority of the issues they are having. Keep in mind most of the people posting these issues seem to be allergic to research and problem solving skills, instead choosing to post "dis broke,y u no fix it for me naow!"The only issue I EVER had with ICS was sub par battery life until I took the time to set things up properly, then I was back to 18-24 hours to a charge with ~4 hours of screen time. Insofar as JB I've been running sbrissens aosp, it is fantastic, definitely an improvement on ICS and I can't wait to see how awesome it ends up given its useability in these really early alphas- I've had no problems using it as a daily driver....lastly as to why you think this is a "GB device" I just simply do not understand. The hardware in this phone is still better than 3/4 or more of the devices currently on the market. Are you telling me you don't think a class leader, like the e4gt, is capable of receiving an os upgrade ~7 months after its launch. Hell, until June this was still the best phone out. Hell, ICS runs awesome on the og evo and the damn hd2! The argument that this phone is a "gingerbread device" is just downright stupid, sorry.
I did not mean to flame you nor am I trying to be an ass. But I've seen you post the same thing so many times I finally had to say something. Your opinion is not fact.
And on topic yes I think we'll see official jb, I could care less though, other than for kernel source , I'm never leaving aosp/cm10/eventually aokp jb for anything... too good...

Is it the new 4.1 update? Because when I flashed it, it was horrible. It was also the Alpha 2. I kept getting lost signal, my 4G kept dropping, my phone stayed in Airplane mode when I turned it on. I kept having to do a reboot.
I don't think I'll be using CM10 until an Alpha 5. I'm running CM9 Alpha 6 and it's running nice for me now.

I guess Google Voice Dial is still broken and that's a Google issue that only they can fix. If so, that and the small and dark desk dock screen are enough to keep Jelly Bean from being a daily driver for me on any phone.
