Except it's Steve Jobs instead of Ferrell, so all Samsung has to do is get into the brainwashing game, the marketing is getting better too....
Well, with all the fancy marketing terms and strong fanbase with lots of fan boys.
I'd say yes.
I can also say that the iPhone is still the single best selling phone in the world. No one has topped it yet. However, Samsung sells more Galaxy phones, not one of them has gotten even close to the 35mil set by the iPhone.

I think Samsung is similar to apple in that they release disappointing incremental products... they could have done so much more with the S3... just like apple could have done more with the 4s...
Its just that there is no pressure for either company to push the boundaries because they have no real competition.

That is also set to the fact that if you want iOS you have a choice of 1 phone. Although I would not call that a choice, more like no choice.
If you want a Android device, you have so many to choose from with all different price ranges with all different features. Of course it would be harder for an Android manufacturer to sell 1 of their devices and match the numbers of an iPhone.

Correct, if you're a delusional hater of Apple.
Apple had the *first* ultrabook, and it's still considered the best by many (the MacBook Air).
Apple has had the best-selling smartphone in the world for years now with the iPhone line. In fact, it still is.
Apple's monitors are world-renowned for their quality. They're hella-expensive, but they're damn fine monitors.
Let's not forget Samsung actually makes their products. And apple's.
let it be.

Apple vs Samsung is an entirely different debate than iOS vs Android. I prefer Android, unless Apple does something completely off the wall (like buy web OS to incorporate components into future versions of iOS). Apple, however, takes the time to make sure the device itself has a design (look and feel) that makes people think they are holding a premium product. Samsung phones, even though they are great, feel cheap.

When i first saw the images of the LTE version i was disgusted. The color choice and the added bulkiness definitely took away from the sleak design. I'm happy with the E4GT and i hope my next phone come 2012 has some quad core goodness

It. Is. Hideous. The poor poor phone has been continually hobbled. First the went to OMAP, ****ty GPU, then they stayed with no SDcard and only 16gb, then 5mp camera, then they jammed in a giant LTE radio on top of the CDMA version usually being larger. Sure, it's probably got a bigger battery, but, that's to make up for the battery-thirsty LTE....and this phone should have been out like 2 or 3 months ago and Verizon still hasn't dropped a date. But nobody cares....and now it's fat and ugly?
Yeah, I changed my screen density to 160 and can totally live with that for now, lol. The only thing extra you are getting are the earliest updates from Google....oh yeah, and expensive tiered data. If Sprint keeps slowly improving it's data speeds (as I have experienced slowly over the past month) Verizon ceases to have any advantages....especially once we get our GNexus, which my Sprint rep said should be around May. (grain of salt, YMMV, etc etc etc).
God. It looks more like a DroidX than a Nexus.

Agreed. Have a high end "super phone" model, a low end "economy" model and a mid-range model that is the "super phone" from 6 months ago. Cycle downward so the low-end has variety too eventually.
Really? You all can tell from a poorly-lit, low-res shot of the side and back that this phone is "hideous?" Really?

It looks almost twice as thick, though I'm sure it's not that bad. At least 50% thicker. No curve? And it looks slightly more squared and has a big lump. Square it up a bit more, make it a tad thicker and put the bump at the other side and we've got a DroidX.
I'm pretty spoiled by this ET4G I guess. 720p and NFC (and a number of nominal downgrades) just doesn't have the allure anymore, especially with that shape.
I really want to own a Nexus device though. N1 was legendary and will have ICS before we do (does have?), same for the NS/4G. The only phone faster and smoother in operation I have ever used is the ET4G, by a hair.
Once we get a good solid AOSP kernel we're in the game and that won't matter and I guess I'll hold out for the next Nexus device on Sprint. *sigh*
The curve is still there, but since the phone is thicker it's less obvious. That's all. Chill, people. LTE required it to be thicker. Period. Is this seriously that big of a deal? Would you rather them have skipped LTE to make it slightly thinner so it can be slightly prettier? How often, really, is ANYONE going to look at their phone from this angle? The first day, and maybe a few times when they're showing it off to friends while the phone is still exciting and new. And then never again.

Honestly, no...this hasn't changed my mind. I'm still not going to get it, but, that's for a number of other reasons. First and foremost being that Sprint's service has been steadily picking up for the past month and promises to pick up a lot more over the next 6 months based on planned tower upgrades. But my second--a very close second--reason is unlimited data wins. Even if it's not as fast. 2gb of data (or 4gb if they still have that promotion going on whenever this phone comes out at some fictional date in the future) over LTE (that I have seen tested in my area at between 15-30mbps reliably) could suck down 2-4gb of data in...well....between 10 and 50 minutes of full-throttle downloading depending on the promo you get and the speed you get....
Yeah, I'm all set with that trap.
The phone is .5mm thicker and the curve and thickness look off due to the color. If the other one was black it'd look nearly identical. .5mm is very small.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA App
No one said it would be "huge" even though it does look noticeably bigger. Just stating the differences that i for one am not satisfied with.
Instead of metal bezel, it'll just be mat/black. I honestly think it's going to be built like the Epic touch. PLASTIC.
Sent from the future.
Those differences are minimal at best. People are reaching hard with this one.
To be honest, the only feature I really wanted from the Galaxy Nexus was the 720p HD screen.
However, even though the Samsung Galaxy S II only has a WVGA diplay, the Super AMOLED Plus makes up for it (by a lot compared to other WVGA displays) and aI dont think I'm going to miss out on HD resolution that much until my next upgrade.
I think once we get ICS on our E4GT none of us should really care about the GN.
Would anyone on Sprint really care about the GN if it was being released with Gingerbread? Minus the screen, it would almost seem like a downgrade.
What we should be looking forward to is quad core phones. Now that will be a true upgrade...

So how do you show off your phone? What is it that you do to wow people and make the hipsters cry?
My wife owned an iPhone at one point. It pretty much did the work for me by pissing her off and losing her music from her CD's she put on it after syncing with iTunes. I showed her Google Music, the cloud, the ways I could customize it, and how my maps and navigation worked flawlessly as a native app - unlike her iPhone.
I just use the iphone launcher whenever i see them using their iphone and say hey look i have an iphone too. Then i go to the yahoo and play a flash video. Then i tell them that my iphone is better then their.
After that i get their iphone and smash it on the ground

It's just a phone, who cares. I didn't buy this phone to upstage iPhone fans, and I didn't buy it because I have a dislike of Apple products. I bought it because it is the best device for me. If someone asks me about it, I'll tell them what they want to know and why I like it better. 99% of my friends have some variation of the iPhone, and they are very happy with it. In fact, 2 of them still bought the iPhone after playing with my phone. And no amount of widgets or live wallpapers, or face unlock, or whatever else Android has that iOS doesn't will change their outlook. If you want to know why, the answer is simple: not a single android device manufacturer puts out a product that is as polished as the iPhone, and even android 4.0 is not as polished as iOS. That's why my phone is not winning any converts, despite the fact that's it can do much more. I'm no iPhone fan, but that's the truth.

Perhaps you should lay off the weed, because it is clearly clouding your judgement and reading comprehension skills. I have the E4GT and had the Evo 4G before that. Nowhere in my post did I state or imply that I have an iphone. I never had an iPhone and don't want an iPhone. Why do you think I'm in this forum? My post was making the point that the vast majority of people with iphones love their device, and 2 of my friends who played with my E4GT still went with the iphone. And my phone is rooted with a custom kernel, so it actually performs better than the E4GT out of the box. As to my belief regarding why, you can re-read my post. And yes, every time I use an iPhone or iPad, I am always impressed by the smoothness of the UI and the speed of the device, so it is in fact more polished. I also have the quad-core Asus Transformer Prime, which I wish I never bought as it is an underperforming, buggy piece of crap, and you can read all about it in it's section on this board. Want to know why people dump Android for iOS, go out and buy the Prime, try to use it, and you'll have your answer in 5 mins. And I don't blame Android, I blame lazy manufacturers who slap an unoptimized kernel and OS onto cutting edge hardware, fill it with bloat, and then release the product without apparently doing something as simple as trying to access the internet with it, just to do a basic quality control. If I sound angry, it's because I am. With Android, it always seems to be a crap shoot. You can get lucky and stumble on a good device such as the E4GT, or you can spend money on the most bleeding-edge device, and be left with a device that has trouble displaying a powerpoint presentation. Now put yourself in my position; do you really think that I would be more unhappy with the iPad than I am with the Prime? If the iPad at the very least works without the browser crashing randomly and often, then the iPad is already better. Yes, IMO the E4GT is better than an iPhone, but the iPad is much better than the Prime, and it has half the hardware. Don't be a fanboy.
Agreed. Brand loyalty only hinders progress. User experience is a subjective thing, there is no definitely better answer. I know plenty of people who've "converted" to and from both "sides".
I am due for an upgrade but think I am going to wait to see if AT&T does the same thing with the S3 that they did with the S2. Do you think they will release an updated version like the skyrocket was but for the S3?
Just thought I would get some opinions.
I don't see why not, if you wait long enough you might as well wait for the S4. It will be at least 6-7 months before you see another version of this phone if not longer.
There is an enterprise version coming in July with no hardware changes.

New phones come out weekly seems like, so yes there will always something new coming ... but as fast as gs2 and skyrocket I doubt it ... Samsung seems to be pushing this phone alot harder than those others if u think about it, releasing all us models on basically the same day, not changing the look from international version, a red one coming to at&t .... I think next new thing will be another Google built phone with jelly bean on it within 3 months ...and new iPhone within same time frame .. but Samsung going to collect some serious money on this one before release new one
my opinion...
Of course new phones come out every few weeks and the new nexus should be out in the fourth quarter, will it come to AT&T would be the next question. But to stay on topic, I wanted to know if only a month would be between the release, but they have done a much better job releasing it this time, not the 6 month difference like the S2. So it seems that Samsung will keep this as the highest-end for awhile.
So at least it will be a little more than a month before the phone is outdated.
Highly doubt that att will carry the new nexus at its launch.

The only reason the skyrocket was released was because of the new LTE network, they needed more phones to support it, so no, I doubt there is going to be a skyrocket S3.
The Note 2 may be the next big Samsung phone on AT&T.

This is a historic moment for Android and Samsung - and the beginning of a new chapter for both companies.
[WayOffTopicRant]Dare I say another step towards the end of Apple (I hate that company!). I know that is a LONG way off, but I want so badly to see them go. Such a bad company in general, so anti-American, and a hipocritical message. I would swear that Steve Jobs made a deal with the devil if I believed in that sort of thing.[/WayOffTopicRant]
But does everyone think samsung will continue to make the flagship android phone now that google owns Motorola Mobility? Why acquire a fair sized mobile phone maker and not use it. Unless of course the move was just one more step in the no way beneficial to the end user patent war between google and apple.

I am due for an upgrade but think I am going to wait to see if AT&T does the same thing with the S3 that they did with the S2. Do you think they will release an updated version like the skyrocket was but for the S3?
Just thought I would get some opinions.

The Skyrocket wasn't really an updated version. It was just another version of it with LTE. It had a larger screen (not always a good thing) and a worse processor.
So in other words....no. This phone is running on AT&T's LTE network, and LTE was why they released the Skyrocket.
I think you hit the nail on the head in thinking that it was for patents. Especially since a judge just dismissed some of Apples claims over Motorola. Google will now have a platform to work on phone OS and HW now.
Personally, I feel Motorola always made the ugliest of the phones, but if the flagship for them someday becomes the Nexus manufacturer and everyone else does their own things like Galaxy S series and HTC One series it will be good.
We shall see, but from what it looks like to me is Android is here to stay, Samsung and others will continue to support it as long as we buy it, and Moto will be Google's chance to bring out stock only phones in the future.
Skyrocket was announced a week after I got my sgs2. I opted to stay with it. Skyrocket was one of the first lte phones. There is nothing that can be added to the sgs3 that it doesn't already have. Except maybe the 32gig version.
Note 2 will be out in October.

There's a lot of apple haters out there and after ggetting this amazing s3, I have to say I know why. But at the end of the day apple's products are by no way bad, and they are an American company while Samsung is Korean and I want to root for my own country.

Apple makes products in China. Apple the company is rooted in America but it has given nothing back to the US. No charitable donations, no give back programs, no student help, etc.
Samsung Telecommunications of America is a US based company too. They have numerous charities they give to. Sponsor many US based programs and like Microsoft give back a huge portion to the US citizens in donations.
If you want to root for the US buy Samsung. I know it sounds funny but Samsung Electronics of America is a US company. STA is a US company. Only the parent company is Korean.
I will always support the US company that gives back when it can. I am all for making a profit, but what a company does with that profit is what truly matters. Apple swallows it, Samsung gives it back.

It's true. After two months, I sold my Samsung Galaxy S III, AT&T branded, blue, shiny, and beautiful. Why did I do it?
This excellent Chicago Sun-Times article may offer an explanation: Android vs iOS Sun-Times article.
It's a good article by Andy Ihnatko. Just as Andy, I too cheated on my iPhone with the Samsung Galaxy S III. And it was not a one-time transgression, it was a full-blown two-month affair.
In the end, I went back to my iPhone. All other reasons aside, I had one -- the iPhone is just more reliable. Yep, I said it. In the age of innovation, I choose that. But for me, someone who uses the device very heavily for talk, text, email, calendar, news, boarding passes, and everything around it, the consistency and reliability matter a great deal.
I agree with Andy on most points, with a few exceptions. The screen is the first. Yes, the SIII screen is large and beautiful, as are many of the SIII Android brethren. However, I found that the SIII screen was just not as bright, not as easy to see outside, and the auto-brightness was just not as seamless. Not only that, the SIII (and this is a Samsung thing), display seems a bit pixelated despite the high resolution. It's the "pentile matrix" thing. Whatever it is, it bothered me.
The form factor is the second issue -- and is related to the screen. I don't have large hands, so if Andy had to two-hand the SIII, I certainly did too. And while I appreciated the extra real estate, it was infuriating not being able to reach the top left with my thumb. I frequently found myself holding the phone in awkward ways, wishing I had a freakishly long thumb. I felt that something between the iPhone's 3.5 and SIII's 4.8 would be a perfect compromise. But the SIII was just a tad too big.
The replaceable battery... I like that too. You know what I like even better? Not needing to replace it. The SIII just didn't last as long as the iPhone on a single charge. Not even close. I can squeeze a solid 12 hours out of the iPhone with my heavy use. The SIII died in 8. And so I bought an extra battery, and a desktop charger, and was quite proud of myself. But I wish I didn't have too.
Ergonomics. Yes, I love the back button. And the menu button. But try to hold the phone sideways to watch a movie and see if you hit one of those by accident. Again. And again. Or put the phone on the side in a car to use as a (stellar) navigation unit, and accidentally hit the power button. Or the sensitive volume rocker. Oh, and let's adjust the volume. Wait, which of the 3 volume sliders should I be adjusting? I forget.
I do miss the S III. There are times I wish I still had it. It was a passionate affair, and it was fun. But the S III mistress proved too high maintenance in the end, a bit unrefined at the cocktail parties, and a bit too wild for business gatherings. But I think we may see each other again.
In the meantime, I thought I'd keep things interesting. And so I started cheating on my iPad with a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1. It's the first few weeks, too early to tell. Either you or my therapist will know how it ends.

I wonder if the larger screen will demand more power, hence more consumption, yet to be seen. Unless Apple has found a better way to conserve power on a processor they use that is made by Sammie, seems the something in the speed department will suffer

Hold on. Let me get this straight. You took all the time to write out your OP but you failed to be able to read? This is an android forum dude. I know you can read because you can write. So what part of the Android development part of this website did you not comprehend? You should go post this in some iPhone forum or website. Get your checkbook out first though.
There must be something to the S3 because the Rotten Apple Heads feel a need to justify owning iphones. Can the Steve mojo live forever? Everyone I know who has tried android loves it. Once you go droid, the apple is void.

I applaud your honesty without being an ass about it. I chose the SIII because of the big screen but unlike you I have large hands and can reach around the whole thing.
I do miss the iPhone battery life but I like having the screen more. I'm also a bit of a tinkerer so jail breaking isn't quite enough for me.
But I respect your choice and wish you the best of luck with your iPhone. I hope it serves you as well as my SIII will serve me.

Yea... i was the exact opposite. my first smartphone was an old Motorola Q running Windows Mobile. After that, when the iPhone 3GS (the first REASONABLE seeming iPhone) came out, i upgraded to that. It was nice... and there weren't really any great Android devices at that time. My biggest beefs... lack of customizing options without jailbreaking, and requiring iTunes for damn near f*cking EVERYTHING! When the iPhone 4 came out... pre-ordered that. Also nice... liked the screen, nice camera... but still.... no customization, no ability to use something other than iTunes. When the Motorola Atrix was announced on AT&T, it seemed like quite the awesome phone. They came out, i bought one, and sold my iPhone 4 on eBay for like $450. Haven't looked back at Apple's ways. iTunes just completely sucks. Makes it seem even worse when you realize that any song you pay for is just a rental, apparently. But it sucked having to be tethered to iTunes to do damn near anything. "Oh, you can make a custom ringtone, but it has to be in this format, with a file size lower than this, and with a playback time shorter than this". Yea.... i'd much rather be able to slap any old MP3 onto a folder on my phone using any old file browser on my computer (Or *GASP*.... on my PHONE!?!?!) and be able to use it, no matter the length or file size.
But yea... you enjoy your iPhone if it's more suitable to you.

Why Dell Streak 5 didn't make it and Samsung Note I & II did?
I would guess MARKETING?
I loved mine the two years I had the Streak5. It did everything I wanted and then some. I even held off of the Note I for a year because I loved the Streak. But no updates finally caught up with it.
I will never understand why the support was so poor from Dell? Had they been on the ball, with marketing, updates and supplies, it woulda/coulda/shoulda have been Dell, not Samsung with the big hit right now. You'd be surprised how many times I got asked about that Steak 5, even in the AT&T stores... ah well, that is history now. I bet Dell is smacking themselves in the head right now, just like Microsoft is about their late start with phones.
For now, it is the Note II for me.

Yeah I almost got one back then.
But just so you know they didn't go to waste or died out. There were set up & secured for use for the Government employees. Because of the size of the phone. Wish I knew were I read that article. So it's wasn't all that bad for Dell making into a government facility as a phone. How many others are being use. Defiantly not that Crapple phone.

I never knew this phone ever existed, but likely would have bought one.
The success of the Note 2 isn't just about size. It's also about what Samsung has done with Android, since really the SGS3. They've taken core Android services and made them gimmicky, like S Beam.
I think
I had one as well. what used to piss me off was the lack of available accessories within store reach. i.e Best Buy, etc...Also seemed like the battery wouldn't last a day either. I did enjoy it though and it was pretty durable.
I loved my dell streak. Only phones I held onto for over 2 years. Great phone Dell screwed the pooch on promoting this product.
Sent from the TermiNOTEr 2!
The dell streak was a pretty hefty device. It was pretty thick and the lack of after sales support (software upgrades) was pretty much non-existent. Battery life wasn't great either. I think people back then just weren't ready for a phone of that size yet. I think with the slow increase of screen sizes over time, people were eased into the idea of a larger screen device better.

I agree. I was frustrated I could get no accessories for it here in the states. I had to order my red faceplate from China and it took 6 weeks to get here. I really liked the looks of this streak... didn't seem too big at all.

I kept the black battery cover as to set it off and to look different.
I could not transfer the long speaker screen as it was thin and glued in place, so speaker shows.

You a lady then with small hands? That I can understand. I'm an average size male and it was perfect for me.
As far as I was concerned it blew away the iPhone 4 at the time as I took one back for the Streak.
No complaints at all, fantastic phone and served me well until I got the Note II.
Streak was a bad ass phone and the note stepped up the standards for a lot of phones. I think the note 2 will be a flagship phablet device for quite some time. I don't regret getting mine. I would love to scoop up a streak on the side to play with again tho
