Cracked screen! Tell me what you think. - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

So I'm looking to buy a sgs2!
I'm looking at a white one for a really good price only flaw is that there is a crack in the screen
Which isn't a problem because it's not on the screen (including pics below!)
So my question to you guys is will this crack on the screen spread towards the screen?
Let me know what you guys think

It might be if u drop it

But just in every day use do you think it will spread?

I wouldn't buy a broken phone

Any pressure like having it simply accidently leaning on it could very easily spread the crack... I'd stear clear lol

I would just buy a kit off amazon for $20 and fix it yourself

If dropped it will spread.
On a side note...I'll sell you mine for $400 in pristine condition

I'm buying it for 275 does the price make up for it?

Nope....display alone is $100+

Yeah I wouldn't. You would have to be super gentle with it always or it might spread. But in the end it's all up to you.
Sent from Flip's SGS2

Sure you might save a couple hundred now but in a few months when the crack spreads you'll be spending a lot more. Might as well spend the bigger bucks up front for a new phone instead of buying a cracked one an then possibly having to also buy a new one shortly after.. Just my $0.02
Sent from my MB870 using XDA Premium App

That type of crack will only spread.
Some on the corners can be stopped with superglue if not a structural crack like that one. The torsion of the phone alone will cause that crack to spread.
I wouldn't buy it, by time you're done buying a new display (and the pain in the rear of attempting to separate a broken screen from the adhesive) it will be at least 400-450 total for the phone. That is, if you dont break the filament for the touch buttons at the bottom trying to separate it from glass shards.

I wouldn't buy it for more than 100 dollars. Screen will cost you 175 conservatively, so tack that on.
275 total is good for a used phone that probably has other issues.

Thanks guys
Thanks guys looks like im not going with that phone. Im looking at a slightly used Gnex for 315

How much could I sell my galaxy nexus with a slightly cracked screen for?

Take what a replacement screen costs and subtract it from what a good used one goes for.

As much as someone is willing to pay for it.

Cdma or GMS?
From a Galaxy far far away
65% of what a new one cost minus near the cost of getting the screen fixed

Used perfect ones go for like $300 or so. The screen and digitizer are one piece that costs around $200 so.. there you go.

Yeah... its not worth a whole lot. The only thing one with a broken screen is worth is other parts that someone is in need of for replacement on their own device. No one's gonna buy it to replace the screen unless they're getting super cheap parts.
Thanks guys this is helpful I'll be putting it on Craigslist pretty soon

[Q] Broke my screen, anyone have a good place to reccomend for parts?

It's the T989, I just want to buy the whole front piece including the LCD, any help would be appreciated and yes I already looked on ebay
Thanks
I had to replace my s2 screen unfortunately it cost me nearly as much as my s2 :-( I chose ebay

Any unlocking cell shop in Florida can carry the devices parts. Might have to wait a few days but by then it would be cheaper than getting a new phone

I don't have insurance for t-mobile, I use simple, so I have to buy the part straight out I guess
Ahh that sucks. But my opinion, I rather buy another one just to have . Extra battery which is how I got mines. Paid 100$ and it came with a battery charger and 2 batteries included. Someone was hurting for money I guess. I didnt inspect it or nothing. Had water damage. Sent it in to tmo and the sent me another one for an extra 20$. Can't beat it for the price I paid

true, I'm going to have to see if I can find a stronger case, if not, I might just go buy a commando for verizon, these phones are getting to expensive to repair these days

Broken screen

So i sent my phone to LG after i dropped it thinking they will fix it for free the phone is about 14 days old and now they are charging me 140 to fix it does anyone have any alternative that maybe be cheaper or is LG actually being nice.
Sprint is 150$. If you have insurance, I wouldn't suggest fixing it yourself unless you know what you are doing...this phone is a piece to take apart.
Sent from my LG-LS970 using xda premium
Ten dollars cheaper then sprint so yes they're being nice.
Be more careful next time. No manufacturer covers physical damage for free.

Its actually a great deal. Since screen and digitizer cannot be replaced separately on this phone parts alone sometimes run close to 150 depending on who is ordering it.
Without insurance a screen can run you 225. Having replaced one, 140 is not bad.
Sent from my LG-LS970 using xda app-developers app
I see this on a day to day ... if you have TEP that doesnt mean that all is replaced for free. Think of it as you paying car insurance if somethng happens you will have a deductible. alot of time they will squeeze some screen cracks through the system...usually 1" or less .

Broke my screen. Is 250 euro to fix it excessive?

Hello there
A few days ago I was using the public transport when my Note II fell on the ground. When my girlfriend asked if it was broken, I replied that the Note II was unbreakable. When I picked it up my screen was broken (karma hits player 1 for one million thousand trillion points). I mailed to the store I bought it from and they told me it would cost 250 euro's.
I'm wondering whether this is a normal price for a screen replacement.
Thank you for the replies!
Stores always want to rip you off! I have seen issues about screen on the galaxy s3 which obviously is different but almost the same. The glass can be bought for under $10 online and there are plenty of YouTube videos with instructions on how to do change it yourself. So to answer your question yes I think $250 is wayyyyy too much
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
If it were me, I'd attempt to fix it myself, after reading up extensively and making sure I had the right tools.
Only you can contemplate whether it's worth it for you, watch some YouTube and make a decision

The alternative is getting it fixed in a local 'foreign' shop here in my city. Not entirely reliable, but I have little to lose.

Did you ask if they were going to change just the front glass or the whole display such as glass+ digitizer+amoled? Because if it's just the glass then it would be a major rip off! It's not that simple to just change the glass since it glued with an adhesive and you'll need to be very careful when removing it.

Well they said they had to replace everything, which probably explains the hefty price tag.

I'd do some research before running to pay. These companies tell us w/e they want in hopes of making more money off customers
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
First of all. If the screen is scratched or broken but still works it means than the screen is not damaged. Only upper glass over screen is broken and you can buy one from ebay for 20$ and replace yourself by video tutorial on youtube. Anyway if you fail to repar it yourself you can anytime go and replace whole screen for 250 eur. But I think its worth to try to repair upper glass only if screen is still responding after damage.

Broken screen + Big dents in bezel.

It happened yesterday, i knew it would happen at some point...
Anyone know how much it will cost me? The device is still working fine, but i have no idea for how long it will..
It's pretty funny actually, i was thinking about buying a case, a few hours later my phone fell on the ground.
So, any cheap repair options and useful cases for the future?
Visit cnn.cn I've bought from them before and have no complain. You'll find the rear housing for around $10 and if your screen still responds to touch and asking as your amoled is intact then you probably just need to replace the front glass which is also cheap and around the rang of $10 - $20. However, if your amoled or digitizer is unresponsive then the whole screen assembly would cost you around $320. Good luck.
