Which CPU gorvernor do you use, and why? - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Title says all.
I just want to know which gorvernors are you using, and for what reason?

I use Scary and Smartassv2. They both scale perfectly depending on how much clock is really needed.

smartassv2 and on demand, but the better is to see a list to explain each cpu governor and see what do you need

[Q] queation about SetCpu

ok, i searched for the problem i had but couldnt find anything relevant. i hope someone can direct me to it, if there is any already, or give me an answer,
i downloaded Setcpu and ive seen most of people using "conservative" scaling for better battery life, but i dont see that option in the app. i just see ondemand, userspace and performance.
any idea if im doing something wrong?
and also i would appreciate if someone can tell me the settings for longer battery life? wanted to try it but didnt understand that much.

btw im using virus rom rc3 with stock kernel.
The governors are kernel specific- if the kernel doesn't support it, it won't show up as an option. In your case, conservative scaling is not supported by the kernel you are using.

oh ok. now i got it. thanks for the info.
Both Netarchy and Kings kernels have "conservative" governors on them. One of the top ways to conserve battery is to make a profile setting for Screen Off where you set the min and max freq to the lowest possible setting. For me though I can go to 128 Mhz, I get too much lag on wake-up and therefore set to 384. Your phone may do better.
Someone also made a thread that describes the advanced settings. Tweaking those can also improve battery life as well.

Set cpu question

Which set cpu scaling govenor works like stock? I never knew the difference between all the options.
On demand is stock
Conservative is basically like stock but will help battery life
Performance keeps it running at max always
I powersave keeps it at minimum that's all I really know

CPU Tuner

Hi there. Wanna check here, can we set the CPU power(minimum) to the lowest? I mean will there be any "side effects"?
Because previously before I update my CPU Tuner to the latest, the minimum CPU i can check them(by Default) is minimum 422MHz. But after updating to the latest, I realised now I can make it lower to 245MHz in this custom ROM of LeeDroid that I am previously and currently using. Same ROM before and after the updates.
Any possible side effects? =)
No side effects I'm running on 245max and powersave governor profile when screen off.

Oh yes, those governors seems to changed. No more Smartass etc.
Only Full Speed, Normal, Save Battery and Extreme Save Battery. If for interactive, day to day usage, I suppose we use "Normal" governor? Is Normal similar to that of Smartass?

by setting the min clock speed to 768MHZ & the max to 1407MHZ, How much voltage does it spend? by setting the min to 245MHZ & max to 1024MHZ how much? i overclocked to 1407MHZ , i saw more smoothness and speed; but i felt that its consuming more power!
is overclocking harmful to CPU? ( always overclocking )

Political correct answer:
Of course OC "can" harm your device - like all OCĀ“ing
Realistic answer:
Most One V devices can handle OCing up to 1.5 without problems
but since this may be specific to chip manifacturing there is no
guarantee that it is. Therefore before using any OC you should
test it very carefully.
And also - Of course running the chip at higher frequencies needs
more power. Simply physics .)
In "normal" daily use the difference is not big because the cpu will
not run at high frequencies most of the time. If you do things
like "heavy" gaming this is of course forcing the cpu to run faster.
To reduce the "effect" a little bit there is a kernel feature called
Undervolting (UV) with that you can reduce the voltage for
specific frequencies. Like OC this is device specific. So some
devices can run stable with more reduced voltage then others
BTW: why to you set the min frequency to 768?
This will limit that the frequency cannot go lower then that if the
device is idle. Running at 245 needs of course less power then 768
max

MAX: 1407
I'm using "Set CPU" to OC

Yes - especially for the time before the device can go into
"deep sleep" when beeing idle.
The only "disadvantage" is that depending on the govener that you use
there might be a small lag before the frequency scales up

If you use govener ondemand it should be no problem
if you use e.g. smartassV2 you might consider thinking about
using some tunables that will reduce that behaviour.

Thanks, yeah, i meant for normal activities, like checking Facebook,mail, watching movies ... So ondemand mode would be better

What is your recommend governor to integrate with your Titanium-KISS kernel and what is your favourite I/O Scheduler tweaks, for daily use & heavy gaming?
I'm using smartassV2 & i set my I/O Scheduler to deadline until now, because it's peoples favourite
Should i change it to ondemmand to gain a better performance?

Also, I see people mentioning they're overclocking their phone a lot. Does overclocking on this phone mean it constantly stays overclocked until you change the settings back or does it change frequencies as needed to a maximum frequency that you set?

Hey When you OC lets say to 1800mhz . That means your proccesor can Amp up to 1800 mhz if needed. Your phone will always idle when its a sleep. My setting are 100mhz UC and 1800mhz OC. Gpu is also Oc to 640mhz. I use pegasusq for governor and cfq or zen for scheduler. I also use eco mode . I get very good battery life and performance.
Also...what apps are you guy using for this? Seems most use trickster... Wondering if anyone has experience with others.

I would use whatever the developer of your rom/kernel recommends (which is Trickster most of the time)
Anyone know what eco mode does? I've been looking it up but all I've been getting is this guy's kernel that he named 'eco'
Also, for anyone reading this thread with a similar question to mine I'd heavily recommend using Zen over CFQ as a scheduler because it's much smoother and no jitters/stutters (at least in my experience)

I'm curious what Eco does as well. Tried looking it up, but didn't find anything useful.
Trying out Zen...been getting some annoying hangups and jitters with this kernal. UC 100 OC 1704. And FYI...I've used the stock clocks and still got the same lag and lockups and screen freezes. Also tried on demand gov.
Could it be that ZRAM is enabled? Not quite sure the benefits of it.

Do you have eco mode enabled? Also, maybe you should look into Seeder. It sounds like it's perfect for the kind of problems you're having. Or you could change your minimum voltage from 100 to 200, I heard 100 can be kind of buggy sometimes
