I honestly hate the curve of the back cover, it is simply ugly imo. Is there a replacement cover that gives me a smooth back?

Remember that the antenna for our Inc 2 is in the back cover. Even if such a cover exists (and I highly doubt it does), you'd be replacing the stock antenna with an aftermarket piece, with no guarantees as to what this would do to your signal. I'd stay away from any swap out of the back cover if I were you.
You could probably figure out a way to mold one out of plastic! Just take a mold of the original inside with clay, and design the outside to be however you want it...but I do think its sketchy with the cover being the antenna and everything.
Get a case?
Cast resin around the original back?
Get an extended battery?

Yeah, it's not the best idea as it can interfere with signal. The best thing to do is to get a slim case. I'd recommend Case-Mates's Barley there. It'd probably give the phone what your looking for...and you'd still have a good signal.

Ok, I cannot be the first person to want to do this, yet an hour on google has revealed nothing. I want to make myself a carbon fiber back cover for my aria. Of course, I ran into a problem: the antenna is also in the back cover, and cell reception is terrible without it. Go figure. Anyway, I was hoping someone on here knew where/what the actual antenna is, so that I can put it in my custom cover. Also inside the back cover is a black film that can be pealed off, revealing some silver adhesive filmey stuff. Does anyone have any idea what this stuff is?
Thanks!

If I'm not mistaken, the antenna is the two prongs in the lower right of the back cover...if you look St the lower right of the back of the phone, these prongs fit into two holes...

Well yes, those are the antenna contacts. I was wondering if anyone knew where the actual antenna was, specs, any info that might be helpful.
Actually, the antenna is that "silvery film stuff" you found. You could try removing it with a razor blade if you're careful, but you may just end up damaging it permanently.
If you only want carbon fibre you could just buy a thin sheet and apply it over the existing cover. That might be a better route.
Cheers.
As aformentioned, I would not remove the adhered antenna from the back plate.
If you bend it too far you can cause a microtear in the antenna permanently damaging it. It can be tiny and not visible without a microscope.
I highly recommend using 3M Di-noc, which is an adhesive fabric that looks similar to carbon fibre but is very durable and long lasting. You can shape it using a heatgun and make it look perfect.
Here's a good video on the use of the product.

I thoroughly enjoy using Di-noc as it's very versatile.
Hope this helps!
just happened to see this, check it out. if it's not genuine, it looks pretty close doesn't it?
Anyway, at that price, you really can't complain haha

$16 for a back cover?
For that price, I'm going to guard the one that comes with the phone with my life.
Might as well just spend a little more and get the official Samsung flip cover case which replaces the back cover.

I don't think is very cheap for the back cover, because the back cover of the Note is not something that worth a lot. ( my thinking)

you'd be surprised at how much companies will charge for replacement parts. nokia AU tried to charge me $60 for a replacement back cover for my n900, and the only thing unique about it was an integrated kickstand.
Hmm... I might have to get this. May have been a bit rough opening my Note's backcover once and since then there's a bit of creaking/flexing on the side of the cover closest to the volume keys. Fairly sure the creaking wasn't there before and it's annoying atm.
Stick a square of padded tape beneath the cover where it creaks

The N900 back cover actually has the spring-loaded lens cover that launched the camera app, so its not exactly THAAAT simple. I know, I tried to fix mine when I dropped it and the lens cover wouldn't open smoothly anymore.

the camera cover was actually quite simple. the spring is just a spring. if you look on the back cover, theres a black/white strip that moves when you move the lens cover. theres a light sensor near the camera that is aimed at this strip and is used to detect when the cover is open or not. still not worth $60.

I thought about that. The problem though is that area appears to be one of the places where a lot of heat is generated when the phone is getting stressed (ie. playing intensive games), and the last thing I wanna do is reduce the cooling capability of the Note, particularly with summer around the corner.
Anything over 10USD for such a back cover is a theft, I'd expect to find a decent replacement for 6-7USD given the material.
I paid more than 10USD for a spare back cover of my HD2, and that was *metal* with epoxidic colouring. OEM producers are going crazy selling plastic pieces for that kind of price.
I'll pay for $15 for a white back cover that doesn't make noises, not for the creaky black one that makes noises as you hold it.
Just wanna introduce you guys a battery back cover I just got from eBay(ebay.com/itm/360466764673?var=630045825855&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649#ht_5067wt_1185)
It fit the same as the stock back cover, no gap, no leak, absolutely fitted as it was the stock one.
I got the metal brush one, it's a tiny/little thicker than the stock one, as there is a metal-like layer. But I think it provides additional protection for the camera while adds little thickness.
Also it gives a great handling than the stock one, not as slippery as the stock.
anyway, just let you people know, i think it's better than purchasing a body protector or any case.
FYI
the ULR is broken and here is the new one :ebay.com/itm/METAL-Brushed-BATTERY-COVER-Case-for-Samsung-Galaxy-SIII-S-3-i9300-Black-W-/360466764673?pt=UK_MobilePhones_MobilePhonesCasesPouches&var=&hash=item53ed7e5381#ht_5067wt_1185

Not to mention any hopes for the OP to use NFC and/or WiFi properly (note: Metal/Aluminum finishes on battery covers wreak havoc on signal strength...)
Double check your 4g too with that metal back on it. It reduced my speeds quite abit...

Hi, has anyone seen a replacement back cover with a kick stand?, (not a case cover with a kickstand)
I haven't, but that would be sweet. The kickstand is the only thing keeping me from a bumper case. I loved the built-in one on my old Thunderbolt.
i have been searching high and low for one and have yet to find one. I am very surprised that more phones do not come with them built in (like the tbolt, and the evo), i think it is a great idea.
The back cover of the SIII is basically a "flexible" membrane, so finding a replacement back cover with a kick stand will, most likely, add thickness. So, it depends on how much additional thickness you're willing to live with... 1-2 Millimeters?... I know you don't want a "case", but you might be able to find a slim cover that adds about the same thickness that a back cover with a stand will add. I've been considering on getting this $10 Amzer slim case with kick stand to use it with my spare battery when I travel. If you scroll down on that page, you can look at the video demo of the case. I have not pulled the trigger because I'm also considering getting a case like this or this with backup battery and kick stand, but without the flap cover. This way I avoid the inconvenience of replacing the battery on the plane or train while in the middle of a movie. Still, if anyone comes across a very slim back cover with a kickstand, I'd be interested.

This is pretty close, but quite spendy.

I found one on ebay last night... I am at work and can't use it, but try searching galaxy s3 battery wings. It is a replacement back that uses wings for a kickstand, I would never use it, but some people might like it.
unlike most people i prefer soft silicone cases. it makes the phone stick to damn near any surface and that is important for me. i would LOVE to find a case that integrates the silicone into the back battery cover (replaces the cover) and also follows the shape of the phone to the sides (bumpers). i have seen some "hybrid" cases that are metal/plastic on the back with silicone bumpers but they are cases and not battery cover replacements.
anyone understand what im shooting for? its not so much protection from being dropped but more the ability for the phone to "not slip" on various surfaces.
i would also entertain a combination of soft silicone bumpers and a different battery cover as long as the silicone bumper is raised off the back and front enough to provide grip/protection.

Not sure how you would make a battery cover out of silicone. Probably wouldnt stay on the phone to well lol...
could have plastic attachment points, but i just dont want a super thick silicone case.

Personally I have a "carbon" skin on the back plate, and an aluminum bumper, but I had looked into getting a silicone one. The sticker on the back A) looks cooler B) gets rid of the stupid Tmobile branding, and C) does make it a littler easier to grip in hand, but I doubt it adds much grip to other surfaces.
I would think it pretty unlikely that there will be what you are looking for unless you were to make one/have one made. You might be able to find some sort of stick on product to attach to the battery cover though. I am thinking you could maybe take one of those pads designed to put on your dashboard to make things stick to the pad, and instead apply it directly to your phone. Might be pretty thick though, but that would also give you some protection. Then you could get a silicone bumper on ebay for a few bucks and have something similar to what you are looking for.

So, you basically want the opposite setup of an Otterbox? Soft silicone on the back?
This crazy query netted me a ton of results. Note 2 silicone case.
This isn't exactly what you are looking for, as you need the harder case to snap into the battery compartment, but it might be a start?

I would hate to have to put your phone into any sort of pocket, lol!
Not sure if you'll ever find once since the NFC chip is integrated into the battery door which means whoever makes a replacement will have to include a NFC chip (which I don't see as very likely)
Oh, good point, didn't think of that.
double sided tape on the back of your choice of cases.
i have already ordered a simple silicone case with screen covers for the day to day until i find what im looking for.
also i found this last night after making this post
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Soft-Silico...1?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item43b5c04917#shId
say delivery time is a month or so LOL but its only a few $ and looks like it has silicone edges front and back. i figure this will work great with a dark blue brushed aluminum back cover that seems to get so much love/hate on this forum.
There are a ton of bumpers. That's not the hard part. What you wont find is a silicone backplate, for the reasons listed above.

You actually don't have to have the NFC chip on the battery door. There's a ton of replacement back doors on eBay for the Note II that explicitly state no NFC in their description so it's not a requirement per say as long as the person buying it knows and is fine with not having NFC.
Personally, I went and bought one of those battery door replacements with built in flip cover for the front on eBay and made sure to buy one that did have the NFC chip. I doubt I'll ever use it but just in case.
When I looked though there was a ton that said no NFC.
yea, i really dont care about nfc... why not have a plastic battery cover with a rubbery/silicone back coating? does not have to be thick like a case, just enough to keep everything from sliding around... sounds simple enough.
If you don't mind modifying your backplate and really just want to ensure that it does not slide around as much, you might try applying a few thin layers of this - http://www.homedepot.com/buy/perfor...ubber-coating-spray-11203-6.html#.UKvGrod9JjY

The "CHIP" isn't in the battery door, the antenna plate is which is a lot easier to duplicate than the electronics.

It's also stuck on there. With enough patience and motivation it could be removed and attached to a new backplate. Might ruin the original, but that's replaceable.

True, but my point still stands, meaning most manufacturers won't want to tackle that problem. And yes, if you don't care about NFC then this doesn't really matter.
possible?

About the Plasti-Dip: I tried applying it to a Nexus S a while ago, and it peeled off very quickly, starting at the edges.
Anyone looking for a case to protect their note shoiuld try the otterbox defender... it really is worth the price and isnt as bulky as some are made to believe
