[Q] Can I have 3G connection on the latest FXP rom? - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Can I have 3G connection on the latest FXP rom? (which is FXP117)

Why don't you try reading the thread on that rom instead of making a whole new thread to get an answer that you can just find on your own and alot faster

Hi guys...after roothing and install new ROM Virtuous Unity, my 3G sign on the status bar for mobile network became EVDO and i look at the settings for GLOBAL support but it was there. or switch to CDMA to GSM.? can some1 help me and clarify things? or is 3G & EVDO are the same? i got unlimit data plan on Verizon...it;s just concerns me...
Virtuous Unity is a rom port from a completely different phone. So you don't need to worry 3G on vzw is EvDO rev. A

It the themes and apps section you'll find a zip which will change it back to say 3g.

I believe it doesn't support global mode yet. Use another ROM. Might I suggest RMKs debloated as a stable alternative?

I need a developer that know almost everything espically in the ICS subject.
I have a lot of problems with my WiFi after i changed to ICS, and the mobile network doesnt work neither.

Well Wi-Fi functionality depends on your kernel
I had no Wi-Fi on Doom kernel but I do when using FXP kernel.
Network data is a different story though.
Maybe you can get your carriers APN data and manually enter it in settings

It looks more like a query for an IT guy at work.

Some questions!

Ok so I have a few questions if you guys would allow me to pick your brains.
I have installed cm9.1 on the galaxy s2 (SGH-T989) using clock work recovery. The phone is rooted using superSU. Pretty standard as far as it goes here. However:
<s>1) I have no wifi calling option and its running android 4.0.4 (ICS). Is this normal for this rom or do I need a different kernal or modem/radio to make this work? Because stock has this feature and its really important to keep message/calling costs down and get service in dead zones.</s>
2) I cannot get 4G data. Only "H" and 3G. I got Edge/2G/3G/4G with stock. Is this normal or do I need to do something else to get this to work?
3) What are good custom kernals to use for this phone because I looked on the sticky and there are only three listed and some are discontinued. Also what are the major advantages of a custom kernal over samsungs stock? I.E. What does it add/modify?
4) Do custom radios change signals your phone can pick up? What exactly does changing the radio do?
THANKS!
~NEW!~
1)Since no wifi calling is a deal breaker for me I'm going to try a new rom, so! I'm looking at darkside and akop. Any opinions on these roms or experiences you guys have had with these good or bad?
2) CWM vs TWRP ~ GO!
Just trying to get better informed. Thanks everyone! :highfive:
Also if there are guides I missed that explain these things I'm sorry just link me to them if you would be so kind. Thanks!

This and stick with stock kernels for now. Different radios work better in different areas, so just try until you find the best one for you.

Haha yea after I got the answer I felt dumb I just never saw the little icon use "H" to explain a radio type and didn't think about that related to 4G as standing for hspa. Also I learned hspa exists using WCDMA. Cool. :victory:
The "H" means HSPA+ which is 4g.
Only Touchwiz ROMs have Wifi Calling (CM9 is AOSP Based)
The best kernel to use is the Darkside Venom Kernel for CM9 AOSP http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1775075
As far as radios go they can change the amount of signal. Certain radios make signal better in different areas. I PREFER THE GALAXY NOTE RADIO FOR Galaxy S2 (T-Mobile)
HOPE THIS HELPED!
Darkside, only tw roms have wifi calling, aosp roms like cm9,10 and aokp dont.

This is a problem with every device that needs to speak with an master cell tower, if anything are between you and the cell tower, you will get decreased call and signal quality.
You can improve this by flashing different basebands and se which one gives you the best signal reception..
For Gingerbread: Baseband 36 with libs
For ICS: Baseband 72 or 77 with corresponding libs.

It's a signal reception problem that can be fixed with flashing different basebands and see which one that works best for YOU!
Remember that the basebands are the driver that makes it possible to get any signal reception.
Which Android version are you on?

Before doing any flash, mod or something.
Go to settings, mobile network, networktype, choose GSM ONLY.
Try this for a while. Should help. Gives slow data rate and a little slower dialup, sms sending time

You should use the search before start a new thread to one simple question.
Type the *#2263# code in the dialer select GSM BAND and then GSM ALL.
