Hi,
i´d like to switch off GSM at times and leave another radio on.
eg. If i go on a hike for a few days i want gsm and data to be switched off, as i´m off coverage most of the time anyway and i realyy need to preserve my poor battery life. So the only thing that i want to switch on at times is the gps.
Sometimes i want just wifi to be switched on and everything else off.
Winmo did it and the iPhone did with iOS4.
Can Android and the HOX do it?
thx a LOT, nearly
Turn on airplane mode, that turns it all off and you can still use WiFi just toggle it back on. As for GPS I believe you will need mobile data on Sewell.

Is there any wall to turn the cell radio off, but leave the bluetooth radio on? I have bluetooth headphones that I want to use at the gym, but there is almost zero cell signal there, so I want to turn the cell radio off so it does not kill my battery.
Any way to do it?

Try turning on airplane mode then turning Bluetooth on. It works for wifi, so maybe Bluetooth as well

Thanks. I had tried that while I was at the gym, but it did not work.
Mine seemed to work fine

I tried that, didn't work either. Don't know if there's a way to do it. You may have to just shut data off while at the gym.
yeah - shutting data off will probably help some, but the cell radio will still be boosting output looking for a signal and killing the battery.

Anyone figure this out for TW roms? I use the People's rom and would love this feature!
(i.e. being able to turn on airplane mode and then still be able to enable bt).
How do I keep my 3g network always on? By this I mean sometimes when it goes off I have to turn off radio and turn it back on again in order for it to work. Also I could be on internet and then all of a sudden it won't connect. Again I have to restart connection. This as you can imagine can be very frustrating. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

do not know if this would help but try this. first make sure you go into settings and turn mobile network on. then download an app which link is in my signature. download it from market and install it on your phone..do not worry you do not need to be rooted. once you installed that top option where it says put data connection to sleep untick that.
let me know how it goes for you...
Thanks tried that but it doesn't seem to work. Was wondering if there was build prop settings or something like that?

not sure about that and if you know what you are looking for then go ahead but still i would not try anything that has to do with build.prop. Sorry
I'm going to be in a GSM country for a while, and I'm bringing my SIII cuz it's a capable little tablet computer. I wish to disable the cellular radio completely because there aren't going to be any CDMA signals around and it'll kill the battery looking at full power (I'd think).
Is there a way to disable cellular while leaving the wifi antenna up? I imagined it'd be simple, but I'm finding it hard to even search for. Usually people just want to disable the mobile data and leave voice up for sms or whatever.
What about Airplane Mode?

I would assume he still wants to connect to Wifi.
I haven't heard of any Mods or settings that completely turn off the radio (data and phone/text). I'll keep my eyes open, though.
Turn on Airplane Mode which shuts off everything, then turn on the Wifi by itself. Used it in Europe that way without a problem.

Ah, I didn't know this worked. Back on my old Evo, once airplane mode was on, Wifi couldn't be turned on. It looks like they've improved the airplane mode functionality in the last 2-3 years.

I still have my Evo and can connect to Wifi in airplane mode.
Just noticed this. Mobile data still shows while on WiFi or turned off. I've rebooted a couple of times (even turned off mobile data, then restart, still shows) but it won't go away. No a huge deal... Just not right and bothers me.

Yeah mine is doing the same thing, wasn't doing that before the update.
I've always had it shown. And I don't know why.

That's strange, mine would only show Wi-Fi when it was on the 4g would only show while using data.
same here, if I believe the Verizon GS5 forums, same happened to them when Volte was pushed on their phones...

Are you running stock rom? Viper gives you the option to turn this on/off in their tweaks.

Has anyone else's signal gotten worse with the new update? I use to have 4 bars at home, now only 1-2 although the speeds are still about the same.

Ever since the update my Spotify and Tunein keep telling me I am offline when I am not on Wifi, yet my browser works perfectly fine when using data...
Do you think having both is causing apps to have this issue?

I don't use either of those so I couldn't tell ya. I did notice that my 4g icon changed to 4g lte while I was on WiFi, makes me think it's still reading towers? Idk...

I have the same issue and a buddy of mine has the same issue also. I went to the TMO store to check their display phone which was already updated to 4.4.4 and that also has the same issue. So it's definitely a software bug since it was not doing this on 4.4.3. Basically when turning on wifi your mobile data should automatically turn off, it's not doing this on 4.4.4 and thus your battery drains faster since both are on, you have to manually turn off data. And when you do turn off data, the icon still remains even though it's not active. Only airplane mode would get rid of the data icon.
Seems like they're issues relating to calling and the camera also, though I haven't been able to test these myself. But overall I'd say 4.4.4 is a buggy release, battery drains a little quicker too.

I have the same problem, fully stock, never rooted. I did wipe the cache partition but that didn't make any difference. I would be curious to see if it persists after a full wipe but I don't really want to do that to mine at the moment.

Yeah don't waste your time with a factory reset, I did this 2 times before I called a buddy of mine and also checked the display phone at the store. Its a software bug and everything I tried has had no effect, problem still present. Hopefully HTC releases a patch soon to fix this because data is constantly on, it does not sleep. The battery definitely drains a little quicker.
Weird, I don't seem to have this issue. Running latest OTA, stock with root.

I too have been having a lot of trouble with this update. Four or five of my programs that would work over 4G now only work when I'm connected to WiFi. I'm still able to watch Youtube and surf the web, but it's extremely aggravating not being able to play my games while I'm on the train to work. I wonder if it has to do with the radio update they pushed with the 4.4.4 release.
Hi Guys,
Previous phones turned on wifi when I got home and turned off when I left home.
Now im having to turn it on / off manually, am I missing a setting or just stupid..........
Any help appreciated.
Wi-Fi control on this phone is a bit flakey. Use this app and your issue should be solved.

Yeah there are 3rd party apps knocking about but was hoping that I just missed a setting.
Tbh im astounded that this phone doesnt turn off wifi when out of range from my home network. Asus gave this phone every app known to man but cant auto turn off wifi ?
Cheers anyway
They will most likely fix it in an update. With early versions it would not even remember the Wi-Fi sleep settings.

I've never seen a built-in app to turn WiFi off when leaving a specific network.

My previous phone, Lenovo A830 had it, worked flawlessly, wasnt an app though, just a setting feature.
