[Q] Camera apps with screwy orientation. - Galaxy Y GT-S5360 General

Wondering why most different camera apps in the market screw the screen orientation on a Galaxy Y. Example apps are Camera 360, UC Cam, ICS Camera, etc.
Can someone explain why this happens?

Ok, here are the screenshot examples. All of them are with the phone held in landscape mode:

Camera 360 Ultimate:
UCam will not open in the Nemus Launcher for some reason, so no SS of it.
Camera 360 Ultimate and UCam will offer the option to fix the orientation. But the orientation fix does nothing.

yes same with me. Galaxy Y.. Creeds Rom 3.5
all 3rd party cameras downloaded on Google Play display in the wrong orientation.. but when you take the a picture the image is in correct orientation..
most likely its the Custom Roms fault.. Only I cant tell creed coz I cant post yet in the developers section...

best option is to go and ask the developer for a fix, or tell him what you want

Happens on my ace-i too with camera ics, maybe because we have the same hardware..

Not work
Even I'm getting a horrible bluish purple tint in JB Camera AFTER the picture is clicked.
If I were to give an excuse, I'd say it has a built-in Instragram.
Sorry for the sarcasm if it's offensive.

Never be sorry for being sarcastic. It ruins the whole point lol. And it's ironic.
Same problem. Even video rec is soo laggy. sony made us to wait for so long to show us this :-/

4.3 Gallery

This is the new 4.3 (?) gallery app from Google. I tested it out and it is working on CyanogenMod 10.1.0 nightlies, but I can't confirm on any other ROMs. I personally like this update a lot, and find it to be much smoother. I understand this has been posted, I just though it may be easier for some of the beginners to have a quick guide on how to correctly install it.
How to install:
Download APK
Rename to Gallery2.apk (on CM) or whatever your respective gallery app is called on your ROM
Move to /system/app/ with root browser
Reboot into recovery
Fix Permissions, Wipe Cache, and Wipe Dalvik Cache
Reboot
Voila! It should be working, if not try changing permissions in root browser to rw-r--r--
Enjoy, and drop a comment below!

Appreciate the little tutorial there.
Might help a cpl guys out. Good job!
Thank you! Have you tested it out? Some features seem to be broken for now, but I'm sure there will be a fix when a more official version comes out

Yeah, the front facing camera causes a reboot after taking a pic. Haven't messed with the camcorder yet. I have this camera and Snap Camera from the Playstore while running the latest Carbon Nightly.
Still need to test everything out, but definitely going to keep this camera for when I want to take the Panorama shots. Awesome feature and works perfectly.
Yeah I've been getting the same "cannot connect to camera" error. I'm sure it will be fixed soon enough

Weird. The first screenie kept loading sideways on me. It's not a Screenshot but an actual picture I took.
Eh, whatever
just want to confirm that on cm10.1 roms this doesn't work with the front facing camera for pictures or videos.

It works, but then you need to reboot ;P I'm sure we will find a fix very soon! Don't worry.
Got one of these off Android Police or wherever.
The original gallery can install as a user app and this one can go right beside it. Push to /data/app/
Running on an LG P500 running June 19 cm10.1 nightly. Camera works and with correct brightness on startup. Gallery works except any attempt to use its editor functions will FC (likely armv7). I assume both can be used, i.e. new camera and old editor as defaults.
The gallery2.apk (com.gallery3d) editor sometimes works, sometimes crashes on my older device. Color-effects look to be for wrong pixel density.

[APK](JB/4.1+) Moto X's official New Minimalist Camera

Beautiful and Superfast Moto X camera with great UI and animations. All credits to androidpolice.
Tested on Insertcoin 3.0.8, picture taking and everything works, but video fcs sometimes and works othertimes for me.
Should work on all (JB/4.1+) roms, but if not, you can simply install as it installs the camera as a seperate user apk
What works
The camera runs fine.
Tutorial.
Single shots.
Burst shots.
Video recording.
Front-facing camera toggle.
Swipe to open settings.
Swipe to open gallery, which asks which gallery app you want to launch.
Touch to focus toggle.
Flash mode toggle.
Shutter sound toggle.
Geo-tag toggle.
What doesn't work
Double-flick wrist gesture to launch the camera anytime.
Panorama mode currently crashes.
HDR mode is disabled and cannot be enabled.
Slow-motion mode is disabled and cannot be enabled.

you should probably credit the source: androidpolice as you took all their images, writeup, and mirrors
let some of the code junkies here are diving in to this see if they can get some stuff working
Motorola took down mediafire, d-h, and mirrorcreator link. May want to remove them.
The image quality isn't going to change and half the features don't work ... Do people really want that kind of "functionality" just for a different UI ? ... Give me the stock Sense camera any day.

Focal v1.0 from CyanogenMod

Focal v1.0 by CyanogenMod
Requirements: Android 4.1+
Overview: We all know that the stock camera app is a bit lackluster. So does the CyanogenMod team. In true developer spirit, they’ve decided to take matters into their own hands and create their own camera app, Focal.

Focal follows the same stock Android design language that we all know and love but adds features and tweaks to make it an above-and-beyond improvement over Google’s stock camera app. And just to let everyone know, Focal is indeed a part of the mysterious Nemesis project that the CM team has teased. In fact, Nemesis is the codename for a series of new features such as Focal that will be rolling out over the coming weeks and months.
Focal uses a new configuration with the camera set-up that fits into the stock Android look and feel, but is actually something entirely new. The shutter button now doubles as a quick toggle menu to select between camera modes. To do this, simply swipe your thumb out from the shutter button for a crescent of options including panorama, front-facing camera and even access to CyanogenMod’s answer to Photosphere, PicSphere.
To change all of your other settings, simply swipe in from the left side of the screen while you’re in portrait or from the bottom when shooting in landscape. Here you can access pretty much anything else you could want–everything from HDR to the maximum number taken during a burst shot. It’s a useful set-up that should work well for people, and it certainly outguns the annoying circle set-up in the stock Android app. If you want manually focus the shot, drag and drop the focus point. Again, an infinitely better solution than what Google offers.

Need Help for Camera !!!

Hii
i am using gnex slimbean 4.3. now i am facing little problem with camera. it is not a big problem. but i need some help.
here is the screenshot on camera view. ( i always hide navigation bar, and status bar )

But while i tried to capture img,.. it ends like this
both are not the same. captured image resolution is 2592*1944.
but actual screen view area is 2508*1412
is there is anyway to add a particular resolution in camera...because recently i took more than 100 images. but when i saw those images again i cannot get the same view, as i saw in the screenshot.
sorry for my english...if anyone knows how to do this, pls guide me how to do this. thank you
That is how the camera works on most phones. The camera app is full screen, and the phone is 16:9 or 16:10 ratio usually. However. The camera takes shots that are more square, probably 4:3 ratio. Instead of having black columns on the side it cuts off the top and bottom in the preview. If you want it to look more like the screenshot, just crop it down. Another option would be to try an alternate camera app. I don't know of any in particular, though, sorry.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
Yeah stock camera does that. Install an alternate camera app like Camera Awesome or Camera Zoom FX.
Sorry to necropost, but the new Google camera in the play store now has proper 4:3 ratio in the preview(among other neat features). I think you need KitKat though.
